"It's very easy to pull for a fictitious serial killer, a Hannibal Lecter or a Jason Voorhees," says Cooper. The album, due July 29, introduces us to Spider, who wraps his victims in silk that matches their eye colors and cuts off one of their legs to create his own arachnoid appendage. "I don't think anyone was ever cheering for Ted Bundy or Richard Speck or anything like that, but when it's a fictitious serial killer, you can get behind him.

"I think (Spider)'s got a romantic sense. He's got a sense of humor. I think in the end you kind of like him. You have somebody you could actually listen to and go, 'I like this guy...' "

Cooper co-produced "Along Came a Spider" with Danny Saber and Greg Hampton, with the 11 tracks played by his touring band. Slash contributes guitar on "Vengeance is Mine," while "Wake the Dead" is a co-write with Ozzy Osbourne. Listeners should brace for a plot twist that the singer calls "very Alice Cooper."

Cooper, whose previous conceptual epics include "Welcome to My Nightmare," "From the Inside" and "The Last Temptation," is planning a full-fledged stage show to support "Along Came a Spider" but won't have it on the road until 2009. "Right now I've got people that are drawing things up," says Cooper, who'd also like to offer a visual treatment of the album with different horror directors creating videos for each song. "We've started thinking about, 'What can we do to make this really interesting and what new things can we do with the stage?' I gonna definitely create a new way for Alice to die, something nobody's seen.

"A lot of clever minds out there are working on it," he continues. "It's weird to be working on a show for a year from now, but at the same time I can at least give myself a good head start."

Cooper plans to play some of the new songs songs when his Psychodrama tour's North American leg begins July 31 in Redmond, Ore.

You ever get the feeling somebody's watching you?

The character of Alice Cooper is the villain of his show. You're meant to cheer against him. He says things and does things that fly in the face of normalcy and decency. He is counter cultural and digs up those things we'd rather be left buried. And that's a good thing. He challenges us to recognise the things in this world that we'd rather sweep under the carpet and ignore. And sometimes, whilst he's delighting us with sick fantasies, he can reveal something about human nature that we'd rather he didn't say. Because it's true. I DO just wanna be God.

 I like to be in control. I like to decide what happens where and when. When everything has been thrown into chaos, when things are exploding left, right and centre, when everyone else is running and screaming, I like to be the guy standing in the middle of it all with a clear head and a plan. I don't like to be told no. I like to be the final authority. I like to be able to tell everyone else that they are wrong and I am right. I like to be the guy people come to because they know I have all the answers. And I'd really like it if everyone else acknowledged this. Basically, I want to be God.

That's why the song I Just Wanna Be God resonates with me. It speaks the things that are in my heart. The song puts to music what the voices in the back of my head have always been saying. The voices tell me that I'm important. That I'm the most important guy in the universe. That I am in control. That I determine my fate. And that any event that gets in the way of this is an affront. Why can't I be God?

Why can't I be God? Why can't I be in charge? Why can't I be the one to decide what is best for me? Why can't I be the one who determines right and wrong? It's a question we all ask in some way, shape or form. And the question has a name. When we ask why can't I be God, when we assert ourselves as the king of creation, that's called Sin. When we hear the word Sin, we normally think of doing the wrong thing, of breaking the rules. But it's more than that. Sin is telling God, the creator of the universe, that he is not the king of your life. That you know how to run your life better than he does. Romans 8:6-12 tells us The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind  is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Whether we know it or not, whether we acknowledge it or not, whether we like it or not, when we deny the sovereignty of God over our lives we are being sinful.

And the consequence for this? But if I'm wrong on judgement day, I'm royally screwed with hell to pay. I know it isn't pretty. I know it isn't politically correct. But if God is real then so is hell. And if the penalty for sin is going to hell then it is stupid to ignore it. We need to wake up to the fact that sin isn't just what "Bad" people do. Sin is something we do every second of our lives. And if we don't deal with sin, then there's going to be hell to pay. Literally. And the only way to be free from the penalty of sin is through the redemptive work of Jesus.

Why can't I be God? Because there's already a God and he knows what he's doing better than me.

I remember the old Alice cooper album Trash that my late uncle Deepan gave me. Hell! I freaked out on that album so much , played that tape over and over again until it kept getting stuck in my cassette player! A few other great albums later my friend is back with ALONG CAME A SPIDER! Like all cooper albums the melody is there, the intensity is there, the passion is there and he is still that wicked bastard! Theres only one difference though, this one is a concept album about a serial killer.

Dear Mr. Cooper,

We in India just adore you. your album TRASH has been over played and abused to the extent that the reel used to get "chewed" in my cassette player and POISON still plays like mad in Pubs in Bangalore, India.

Bands like Iron Maiden, megadeth , pantera etc have already visited here to a minimum of forty thousand screaming metal heads! and a certain dimwit named shakira managed only a few thousand. Now you know where the allegiance of the die hard Indian rockers lie!

Wish you all the best for your new album and hope you can find some time to rock the fuck outta us in Bangalore, India.

Hard and Heavy Boxset Contest

Jag kommer nästan precis fram till scenen när Alice börjar lira Dirty Diamonds och slänger ut pärlhalsband till höger och vänster. Teater från första början minsann och ljudet är helt kanon. Mannen vet vad fansen vill ha och leverera därefter. Okey att showen inte shockar eller skrämmer men den är ändå fantastiskt snygg! Det blir ett långt solo innan Welcome to my nightmare tar vid och showen bara visar upp det ena efter det andra. Dockor varvas med en ballerina (som senare visar sig vara Alice dotter) och i låten I love dead avslutar Alice med att hänga sig själv i en galge. Jag undrar fortfarande hur han lyckas med det utan att stryka med själv men jag måste erkänna att det bara är han som direkt efteråt kan komma upp på scen i kavaj och käpp utan att det känns påklistrat.

Schools out och Poison blir allsångs nummerna med stort A och på avslutande Elected uppmanar Alice de stridande politikerna på scen att dra åt faderns för det är minsann han som ska bli president. Och folk springer runt med "Vote Alice " plakat och det må vara rörigt men någonstans finns den där snygga proffesionella röda tråden och det blir helt enkelt magiskt. Leve skräckfarfar!

Der spontane Kommentar meiner Frau beim zufälligen Aufschnappen einiger Takte dieses (Konzept-)Albums: "Klingt veraltet und nach Alice Cooper."
Packt man diese Aussage in einen etwas wohlwollenderen Zusammenhang,
ist sie eigentlich schon ein Kompliment, denn der Old-School-Hardrock-Klang
ist, wenn er hier denn zum Tragen kommt, Absicht, und ein Wiedererkennungswert sicherlich auch ein Pluspunkt.
Auf einem 25. Studioalbum darf man ja sicherlich erwarten, dass ein
paar Reminiszenzen an die (erfolgreiche) Vergangenheit und die Wurzeln (hier die 60's) enthalten sind.

Über den Verlauf von 11 Songs erzählt Alice auf "Along Came A Spider" aus der Ich-Perspektive die Story
eines Serienkillers mit Spinnenpersönlichkeit - ein makaberes Augenzwinkern ist stets nicht fern, allein aufgrund der Tatsache, dass es sich bei den meisten Songs um gepflegten Hardrock handelt, der mit anderen Lyrics eigentlich im Gute-Laune-Spektrum anzusiedeln wäre ("I Know Where You Live", "I'm Hungry" - klingt glatt wie aus einem Musical).
Das Album ist in sich stimmig und mit vielen Hooks ausgestattet, die ausgezeichnet ins Ohr gehen, in Sachen Melodien wurde hier über die meiste Zeit hervorragende Arbeit geleistet. Effekte und zusätzliche
Instrumentierung werden sparsam und stets passend eingesetzt.
"Vengeance Is Mine" (mit Leads von Slash) und "Catch Me If You Can" fahren die breitesten Gitarrenseiten auf dem Album auf und zählen daher zu meinen persönlichen Favoriten.
"Wake The Dead" (feat. Ozzy) kommt ähnlich wie ein moderner Rolling-Stones-Song (Einfluss von Producer Danny Saber?) daher, "Wrapped In Silk" hätte auch aus der AC/DC-Ecke kommen können.
Inhaltlich fügen sich auch die Ballade
"Killed By Love" und das harmlose "Salvation" zwar in den Gesamtkontext, stellen aber meines Erachtens nach nicht unbedingt Höhepunkte dar - dieser wird uns getreu dem Motto "save the best for last"
mit dem fiesen Quasi-Titeltrack "I Am The Spider" am Ende des Albums präsentiert.
Fiele das Niveau der Songs im Mittelteil ("(In Touch With) Your Feminine Side") nach dem guten Auftakt nicht etwas ab, wäre meinerseits vielleicht sogar sowas wie Begeisterung anstatt wohlwollender
Anerkennung drin gewesen.

Zusammenfassend ist also zu attestieren, dass Mr. Cooper auch mit sechzig Lenzen auf dem Buckel noch ordentlich rocken kann und mit "Along Came A Spider" ein würdiges
Jubiläumswerk abgeliefert hat. Könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass dieses Album bei einigen Fans in der Highlight-Kategorie landen wird. Qualitätsbewusste Hardrock-Fans sollten auch ohne vorherige Alice-Affinität
ein Ohr riskieren.

Spearhead24

Motley Crue's Saints of Los Angeles was highly anticipated, but the reactions after its release were mixed. It was hailed by some as a return to the Motley of old, but many pointed out that there were too many "filler" songs. While there are some quality cuts, it doesn't stand up to the 1980s version of Motley Crue.

Def Leppard's Songs from the Sparkle Lounge was supposed to bring the band back to the sound of Hysteria after several lackluster efforts, but it fell flatter than even their cover album Yeah!, despite (or perhaps because of) their attempt to reach a broader audience with the guest appearance of Tim McGraw.

Meanwhile, Alice Cooper's Along Came A Spider is set for release less than two weeks from now, and there is very little buzz surrounding the album. My friends, I submit to you that this is Alice's finest work since the 1970s...and may even rank up with some of those classics. While the first single has garnered some attention with the guest fretwork of Slash, it is far from the best song on the record. That's not to say it's a bad song; as a matter of fact it is very good. But it is not representative of the CD on the whole.

I encourage everyone to pick up the new Alice Cooper the day it hits the stores (July 29 in the USA), and flood your favorite rock radio stations with requests for songs from the album. It is my favorite record of 2008, and I can't imagine anything taking its place before the calendar turns over to 2009.

Von Ersterem, dem durch Hits wie "School's Out", "Elected", "Only Women Bleed" oder "Poison" bekannten ,König des Schock-Rock' und Inbegriff spektakulärer Shows, erscheint vorab das Konzept-Album "Along Came A Spider" (SPV, VÖ: 25.Juli). Die fünfköpfige Formation um den ehemaligen Deep-Purple-Sänger David Coverdale, dessen Ruf als "letzter großer Rockstar" (Kerrang!) sich auf muskulöse Meisterwerke wie "Here I Go Again", "Is This Love?" oder "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" begründet, hat einen neuen Tonträger dagegen bereits im April veröffentlicht und die Top Ten der Charts erreicht.
