All-terrain vehicles are something of a niche interest, but you don't need to care about them in the least to enjoy Pure. All you need is an appreciation for breathtaking environments and intense racing action. In Pure, Black Rock Studio has crafted an accessible, wildly tricked-out game that may feel a bit familiar, but it pulls off its concept so well that you won't mind feeling like you've danced with this lady before.

In fact, Pure has more in common with EA's SSX series of snowboarding games than it does with your typical ATV racer. At the heart of Pure is a system that rewards you for pulling off spectacular tricks with the ability to boost. Performing tricks is simple--you just push a button and a direction on the thumbstick as you soar through the air--but the built-in risk-versus-reward aspect keeps things interesting. Pulling off longer, more complex trick combinations nets you more boost, and you can tweak your tricks with a shoulder button or simultaneously flip your ATV forward or backward to dramatically increase the payoff. But if you don't finish the trick before you touch ground again, you'll wipe out and lose boost, not to mention valuable seconds. And the game's presentation makes it all very visceral. Not only do the tricks look totally insane, but the way the ground flies up to meet you creates a real sense of danger. This makes successfully completing your trick milliseconds before you land exhilarating, while wiping out will have you wincing in vicarious pain as your rider goes tumbling across the rough terrain.

There are three event types on offer. Sprints are the most technical: These short races around small, tight tracks provide scant opportunity for pulling tricks. The focus on maintaining your speed and sticking to a smart racing line keep sprints fast-paced and fun. In freestyle events, tricks are all that matter. You keep going until your rapidly draining gas tank is spent, linking tricks to rack up multipliers and score big points. The tracks are decked out with ramps to provide more opportunities for catching big air, and power-ups are liberally scattered around that refill your gas tank, add a multiplier to your score, or instantly hook you up with the ability to perform a special trick. (More on those in a bit.) Freestyle events are the weakest of the bunch because the trick system--while robust enough for the race modes--isn't as compelling when you remove it from that context and make it stand on its own.

Standard races are the most interesting events because they balance the finish-line focus of the sprints with the need to pull tricks and earn boost. And, you'll need to make some important decisions on the fly. As your boost meter builds up, you earn access to more complex trick types, which, in turn, earn you more boost, so there's constantly a trade-off at work. Boosting is often necessary to pull ahead of your opponents, but draining the boost bar costs you the ability to pull off the more advanced tricks. It creates a surprisingly complex dilemma. There's added incentive to max out your boost bar because doing so will give you access to a special trick. Special tricks are the most outrageous in the game, involving physically impossible (but nonetheless awesome) stunts, such as standing on the seat of an ATV and doing a backflip as it soars through the air. Pulling off one of these tricks will refill your entire boost bar, but they take several seconds to complete, so you'll need to catch some serious air. Landing one of these tricks at a critical point in a race can make all the difference, so it's fitting that they're neither easy to earn nor to perform.

Pure's main mode is the World Tour. Here, you'll start off competing on ATVs with relatively weak, D-class engines, and these early events can be a tad too easy, but the competition gradually heats up as you rise through the ranks. The later stages, which find you racing faster models against more aggressive opponents, are also consistently thrilling. You choose from one of six riders, but there's no functional difference among them. It's all about the ATVs, and as you complete events, you'll constantly unlock new parts for your ride, which you can put together, piece by piece, in the game's garage. Armchair grease monkeys will appreciate the number of customization options Pure offers, while others might find it almost silly--many of the parts have no effect on performance, and your opponents aren't going to take the time to admire your taste in radiator scoops or handle-bar guards. Still, too many customization options certainly beats too few, and the game's autobuild option, which lets you toss together a ride optimized for race or freestyle events just by holding down a button, means you can avoid the business of ATV construction altogether if you'd like to get right to racing.

Aside from the World Tour, you can hop into any single event, though you'll need to unlock tracks in World Tour before you can access them. And the online play, which supports up to 16 players in an event, is outstanding. Even in races with 16 people on the track, the action stays fast and smooth. Again, though, you'll need to unlock performance parts for your ATVs in the World Tour mode to access them in online ATVs, which makes jumping right into online games a recipe for defeat.

Despite taking loads of inspiration from the SSX games, Pure capitalizes on the fact that it is, in fact, an ATV game. Although the action here is far from realistic, the physics feel convincing--your ride will dig into the terrain as you slide through curves, and the dirt roads that make up many of the tracks feel as rough under your wheels as they look. The tracks offer an excellent amount of variety, both visually and structurally--the hairpin turns through the airplane graveyard at Ocotillo Wells in California provide a sharp contrast to the gentle curves that take you through the lush coastal landscape of Kosa Phi Island in Thailand. And the tracks have alternate routes you'll discover that can shave seconds off your time, which makes familiarizing yourself with them rewarding. Still, the action isn't without its rough edges. It's not always clear where the track ends, so you may find yourself going out of bounds and being penalized a few seconds of time when you thought you were just taking a shortcut.

Pure's visuals are nothing short of breathtaking. Every detail, large and small, contributes to bringing the environments to life, from the grass and flowers right underneath your wheels to the roaring rivers you might see frighteningly far below. Your ride also realistically kicks up dirt, splashes through puddles, and leaves tracks in its wake. (Nearly every level has helicopters hovering overhead, and, of course, helicopters make anything more epic.) And the game creates a thrilling sense of speed, without any noticeable drops in the frame rate, even when the screen is filled with other riders. The game's sound is great as well. The raucous rock songs on the soundtrack by such artists as Jeff Beck, Wolfmother, and The Futureheads seem to have been chosen with care to create a cohesive backdrop for the action. The whine of the ATVs is authentic, and there's a sickening sinking sound that makes the game's insane jumps that much more likely to induce vertigo. The only problem with the game's sound is that the narrator tends to repeat basic tips ad nauseam, but thankfully, you can shut him up at any time.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are almost indistinguishable from one another. The 360 version has achievements, while the PS3 version lacks trophies; on the other hand, the larger shoulder buttons on the Dual Shock make it ever-so-slightly more comfortable for tweaking tricks. Ultimately, if you know more people playing one version or other online, that's the one you should choose. Pure isn't the most original game out there, and it might have been nice to see it build on the trick system in SSX instead of just copying it wholesale. But nonetheless, its focus on tricks, boosting, and larger-than-life jumps over gorgeous environments pays off. This is an exciting racing game that seriously delivers on its promise of high-speed, high-adrenaline action.

All-terrain vehicles are not street legal in the U.S., which means it can not be promoted over all roads, which regulates motor vehicles on the road. ATVss can be run on dirt roads through the woods, and in any place outside the road, not employing the invasion.

The first model of an ATV has been made in the 1960s, but there was not so advanced and secure as they were in the 1980s and now. The first all-terrain vehicle was revealed to the public in 1982 by Suzuki. It was Quad Runner LT125 and was specially made for early drivers. This was the first model of four-wheel drive is available to the public. There have been three-wheeled models, which were manufactured by Honda in 1970 and these models have been used in James Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever. Broadcasters such as Magnum PI and Hart 2 Hart also used three-wheel all-terrain vehicles.

This first round of three model called the Honda ATC90 and it happened for the sole purpose of recreational activities. The ATVss are also mass-produced to participate in races up. No official ATV races not only held throughout the country, but also worldwide. ATV, because there is no protection against the elements, is also a major concern for safety. There are no roll bars in the vehicle and not steel round as a car needs to protect its passengers or cyclists. ATV, if it does not work correctly, you can scroll and crush the limbs or body of the driver.

Other concerns about the use of ATV's invasion (above), environmental destruction of human life, erosion of soil and noise / dust pollution. A 2004 study found that 767 people died in the U.S. due to wounds sustained from an all-terrain vehicle accident. Consumer Products Safety Commission published the information in The New York Times in 2007 saying that 44,000 children under the age of 16 were injured in ATV accidents in 2004 and 44,000 wounded, 150 of them were killed.

Apart from entertainment use or use for sports, all-terrain vehicles also are used by municipalities in terms of safety and security reasons. Police departments across the country use the ATV to patrol the large crowds and have access to areas not suitable for large vehicles. ATV also used to lifeguarding dresses, suits patrol the beach and the coastguard service across the country. The ATV is used to patrol the beach for lifeguards, and even police officers to ensure that crowds are obeying the law and used to come to certain beaches at a time of the notice in an emergency.

In general, you can find ATV tires from the same party that the SUV or ATV - as he is affectionately called sold. Some of these places are companies such as Suzuki, Yamaha, among others. I occasionally will go out to some great places to ride my ATV in hope of a good thrill ride.  You have to admit they are fun!  It’s a rush taking a sand dune that goes straight up into the sky.

Recently I heard about an accident involving the collision of two dune buggy-type vehicles called sand rails.  It appears that there may have been drinking involved.  Its been suggested that alcohol was a factor in the wreck.  2 people lost their lives and one young man lost his leg.  The drunk driver walked away with a sprained neck. 

I’m not too thrilled with sand rail off road vehicles.  I see those dune buggys flying out on the sand and I get a nervous chill.  Not only are they monster machines but they come flying over those dunes going up to speeds of 25 to 30 miles an hour.  And imagine the idea of that driver being under the influence of alcohol.  For the driver an exciting and dangerous experience. For the sad unsuspecting victim of this reckless driver an unfortunate fate.

In this circumstance the drunk driver walked away with a neck brace and an 18 year old girl lost her life.  So the question is... Is it a dangerous sport or are some drivers negligent?  We all know people not to drink and drive and yet there’s always a reckless individual that has to take a chance with someone else’s life.

Recently Ozzy Osborne suffered an ATV accident. He suffered a broken collarbone, six ribs and a vertebra in his neck. What about the 84-year-old grandma out of New York who was operating a 2007 Polaris Hawkeye 300 cc ATV?  The ATV overturned, ejecting her, and the machine landed on top of her, pinning her to the ground. She was wearing a helmet and eyeglasses that became dislodged during the accident. She later died at the hospital.

I myself had an accident this summer.  No drinking was involved just a stupid move on my part at the top of a hill.  Lets just say there was a drop that I didn’t expect on the other side.  I ended up cracking my helmet and coming out of it with some nasty bruises on my hips and legs.  I flew about 5 feet in the air and landed with my sportsman 500 when I should of just flew off and landed in the sand. I was lucky that day with minor injuries.

Was Offroad-Racer betrifft, so wurden XBOX 360 User leider mangelhaft bedient. Hin und wieder gab es zwar in dieser Richtung den ein oder anderen netten Racer, aber nichts konnte man auch nur annähernd mit Größen wie dem PS3 Titel Motorstorm vergleichen. Mit „Pure“ haben die Entwickler der Black Rock Studios es sich aber zum Ziel gesetzt, diese Lücke erfolgreich zu schließen. Und bereits auf der Games Convention wurde deutlich, dass Pure das Zeug zu einem Überraschungshit hat. Wie gut das Spiel nun tatsächlich geworden ist, schildert der folgende Testbericht.

Pure lässt sich am ehesten als eine Mischung aus SSX Tricky und Motorstorm vergleichen. Das fahren so genannter Quad-Bikes wird mit halsbrecherischer Luftakrobatik verbunden und diese spektakulären Tricks stellen zudem auch den Schlüssel zum Sieg dar, denn wenn ein Trick erfolgreich absolviert wird, füllt sich die Boost-Leiste und neue Tricks werden freigeschaltet. Insgesamt enthält Pure drei verschiedene Renntypen: Sprintrennen, Wettrennen und Freestyle. Bei den ersten beiden gilt es natürlich als erster im Ziel zu sein. Sprintrennen können jedoch auch ohne Einsatz von Tricks gewonnen werden, während man in Wettrennen nicht den Hauch einer Chance hätte. Der Freestyle Modus ist hingegen komplett auf die Tricks ausgerichtet und hier ist auch die meiste Taktik gefragt. So muss man seinen Quad immer so nah wie möglich am nächsten Hügel landen um so den Punktemultiplikator in die Höhe zu treiben. Dank das Quad-Editors ist der Spieler aber dazu in der Lage, seinen Quad auf den jeweiligen Renntyp anzupassen. Aus über 60.000 unterschiedlichen Anpassungsmöglichkeiten kann man sich in Pure das richtige Quad-Bike zusammenstellen und bis zu zehn Quads können dann in der Garage platziert werden. Mit einem einfachen Tastendruck kann zudem ein Quad automatisch generiert werden. Der Schwerpunkt des Bikes liegt dann entweder auf der Geschwindigkeit oder den Tricks. Neben den vielen Quads muss sich der Spieler aber auch aus sechs verschiedenen Charakteren den richtigen heraussuchen. Diese verfügen dann jeweils über unterschiedliche Sprüche und Tricks. Die Geschwindigkeit oder die Steuerung wird natürlich nicht beeinflusst. Letztere geht ausgesprochen gut von der Hand, lediglich aufwendige Tricks sorgen zu Beginn für einige Frustmomente.

Das Herzstück von Pure ist die so genannte Weltournee. Diese ist in zehn Etappen unterteilt und insgesamt gilt es 50 Herausforderungen zu meistern. Die Strecken sind äußerst abwechslungsreich und enthalten zudem unterschiedliche Fahrwege. Wie es sich für eine Welttournee gehört, werden unter anderem Länder wie Italien, die USA, Neuseeland und Nex Mexico bereist. Innerhalb jeder Etappe muss eine bestimmte Punktzahl erzielt werden um zur nächsten zu gelangen. Leider ist der Schwierigkeitsgrad in Pure aber sehr unausgewogen. Zu Beginn sind Siege kein sonderlich schwieriges Unterfangen, ab der zweiten Spielhälfte wird Pure jedoch ziemlich knifflig und frustig. Hier ist es dann ratsam die einzelnen Strecken mit ihren unterschiedlichen Fahrwegen auswendig zu lernen. In diesem Punkt bieten sich dann die bieden zusätzlichen Spielmodi „Einzelrennen“ und „Freie Fahrt“ förmlich an. Zusätzlich besitzt Pure aber auch einen ausgesprochen spaßigen und technisch sauberen Onlinemode. Mit bis zu 16 Spielern können hier packende Schlammschlachten ausgetragen werden und sollte man mal nicht die 16 Spieler zusammenbekommen, wird der Rest durch Bots ergänzt. Wirklich schade ist nur, dass Pure keinen Splitscreenmodus enthält. Gerade bei Spielen dieser Art wäre das doch angebracht gewesen.

Grafisch dürfte Pure so ziemlich jeden Rennspielfreund ins Staunen versetzen. Bislang sah nämlich noch kein Spiel dieser Art so liebevoll und detailreich aus. Die Animationen sind sehr authentisch und butterweich und die Umgebung überzeugt vor allem durch ihren Detailreichtum und den vielen kleinen Details. Wunderschöne Licht- und Wassereffekte runden das Ganze dann noch einmal ab. Und trotz dieser spektakulären Optik läuft Pure stets flüssig und die Ladezeiten sind ziemlich kurz geraten. Der Soundtrack ist ausgesprochen gut ausgewählt und mit Indie, Hip Hop, Rock und Drum`n`Bass sind auch ausreichend viele Genren vertreten. Die deutsche Sprachausgabe schlägt sich sehr überzeugend und dank dem tollen Raumklang werden dem Spieler heftige Motorensounds um die Ohren gehämmert.

Fazit:
Pure ist nicht nur ein wahrer Überraschungshit geworden, sondern zählt zugleich auch zu den besten Arcaderacern der letzten Jahre. Es macht einfach unglaublichen Spaß durch die detailreichen Strecken zu brettern und atemberaubende Tricks zu vollführen. Zugleich bekommt man als Spieler auch einiges für sein Geld geboten, denn mit knapp 48 Strecken, einem sehr umfangreichen Quadeditor und einem sehr komplexen Onlinemode zählt Pure sicherlich zu den umfangreichsten Offroadrennspielen überhaupt. Aber auch in optischer Hinsicht ist Pure wahrhaftig referenzverdächtig. Die grandiose akustische Umsetzung bestätigt den überaus positiven Gesamteindruck letztendlich noch einmal, wodurch man regelrecht dazu gezwungen ist, eine Kaufempfehlung auszusprechen. Jeder Videospieler, der auch nur ein klein wenig für Arcaderacer übrig hat, muss dieses Spiel gespielt haben. Bleibt nur noch offen, ob die Konkurrenz in Form von Motorstorm 2 dazu im Stande ist, diese überzeugende Leistung zu überbieten.

E' stata presentata al parlamento europeo questa fotopetizione che si pone come obbiettivo creare una consapevolezza nelle istituzioni della presenza di volti e persone dietro ai numeri e alle statistiche.
Scopo secondario, ma non troppo, e' quello di far prendere coscienza ai motociclisti dei propri diritti e di come aiutarci a tutelarli!

Μια νεα ιδέα όμως προέκυψε και αφορά στην παρατήρηση της διάλυσης του σκάφους. Έτσι ανέβαλλαν την επανείσοδο κατα τρείς εβδομάδες μεχρι να γίνουν οι απαραίτητες προετοιμασίες και το πρωινό (για τον νότιο Ειρηνικό, απόγευμα για την Ελλάδα) της 29ης Σεπτεμβρίου δυο αεροπλάνα θα παρακολουθήσουν την καταστροφή του ATV και θα μελετήσουν την διάλυση των αντικειμένων στην ατμόσφαιρα. Ο τέλειος συγχρονισμός αεροσκάφων και χειριστών της ESA είναι απαραίτητος για να παρακολουθήσουμε το γεγονός και να μην επαναληφθεί η αποτυχία όπως με την επανείσοδο του MIR.

Pure is an ATV (think four-wheeled motorcycles) racing game similar ATV Offroad Fury, but with an added emphasis on tricks. The demo's only track has dozens of jumps and branching paths with plenty of opportunities to pull tricks. The stunts are performed by pressing a button and a direction on the analog stick. The more tricks you pull, the faster your boost, which they call "juice," meter gets. You can use it to speed past your opponents, or to perform more advanced tricks. You'll spend more time in the air than on the ground in Pure, and the game will reward you for it. More air and more tricks will translate into more speed.

Graphically the game doesn't compare to something like Motorstorm, but you won't have time to stare at the tracks. The only problem I had was with the game's announcer, who sounds like he should be recording radio ads--Think DJ Automica from Burnout: Paradsie. That might just be a demo thing.

De VMP zijn incontournable geworden. BV’s, halve BV’s, kwart-BV’s, nichten en duikelnichten met excuustruzen aan de arm komen jaarlijks samen om elkaar te huldigen en om te networken.

Omdat je de Prijzen live kan volgen op ATV, zit er vaart in het programma. Prijsuitreikingen worden afgewisseld met musicale fragmenten. Die aperitiefjes kunnen je doen verlangen naar de hele musical, of net niet.

“Awoert VDAB”

Wat zeggen prijsuitreikers en laureaten zoal? “Dank u, bedankt” uiteraard, maar ook een sneer naar de actualiteit is populair. VDAB die Antje De Boeck de vestiaire wil laten doen is een aantal keer vernoemd. Vlaams minister van Cultuur Bert Anciaux (Vl.Pro.) moest het ontgelden (“waar blijven die subsidies?”), de Wetstraat-soap kreeg commentaar (“we startten een dialoog van gemeenschap tot gemeenschap en het werkte”) en ook Miss Belgian Beauty-man Ignace Crombé kreeg van presentator Jo De Poorter lik op stuk.

Kiezen voor lokaal

Juryvoorzitter Leah Thys zei het al: 2008 was geen grand cru-jaar. Vooral Nederlands-Vlaamse producties, grootschalig en commercieel. Minister Anciaux moet met geld komen. Daarom (?) dat de jury The Last Five Years overlaadde met prijzen: om de arthouse te belonen en een signaal te geven.

Micro uit

Verleden jaar zagen we dat de VMP braver en gestroomlijnder waren geworden. Braver was het dit jaar niet, en gestroomlijnd evenmin. Een kleine stroompanne zorgde voor verzorgde reclame op ATV, een bijna-dansact van Jo De Poorter en improvisatie door copresentatrice Bieke Ielegems.

Today was a great outside kind of day.  I spent most of the morning outside watching my four chickens fight over a frog one of them had found.  We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of fried eggs from our chickens, bacon from a local farm, toast, homefried potatoes and apple cider!  We sat in the gazebo reading and talking for several hours.  Around 1:00 we decided to go for a 4-wheeler ride down into the bottoms to check out the progress on the Natural Gas pipeline.  The guys were hard at work trying to pump the trenched of 30 feet of water that collected when the river flooded after Hurricane Gustav blew threw.  Richie also wanted to try this trail that goes through the woods near Horseshoe lake.  We got about 30 yards into the woods and realized that most of the trail was still flooded.  After floating through a mud puddle that was up to our knees we decided to turn back.  The woods were also filled with MILLIONS of mosquitoes that had never tasted human blood before and they had literally COVERED us!  We got out of there as quick as we could!  For dinner we grilled hot dogs and ate outside.  At sunset we decided to build a campfire.  Sitting around a campfire is one of my favorite things to do.  It brings back so many great memories from my childhood.  I love to watch the color of the flames, I love the sound of the wood crackling as it burns and I love the smell of the smoke.  We also decided that we would make S'mores! YUM!  What's a campfire without S'mores.

Fall is my favorite season!
