I heart the Kid's Menu

I'm currently sitting in Bravo's. I was just refused a kids menu item because Im one year older than their "age limit". Which REALLY ticks me off. I've eaten off it a million times and never been refused. What's wrong with me eating off of it? Nothing! I may be 13, but it shouldn't stop me from getting what I want.

So this is exactly what our lard face of a waitress said, EXACTLY:

"Are you 12 or under?"

"Huh? No..."

"I'm sorry. We can't make it for you. But you can get a half portion."

"It's fine."

I was not happy. I want my REGULAR HUMAN portions! Eventually, it came out. Covered in some thick sauce, pesto and tomato sauce? Yech. Three.

I was about to not even order as it was. I wish I hadn't. Our waitress obviously wanted that extra three bucks. She wanted some doritos! I only ate half of my half portion before I was full. So that's a quarter?!

And let me tell you: I can eat when I want to. My friends and I sometimes make food bets at lunch. I always win. Once I crammed a huge piece of cornbread in my mouth and ate it. Let's just say my friend lost.

Well, she didn't get a tip on our forty dollar meal. Maybe she'll think twice before saying I can't order my favorite meal! When we left, the first thing she went for was the money on the table. Greedy pig. She can eat my leftovers.

I think she saw me writing on my iTouch when she filled up my tea. "Bravo's Boo."

Los Bravos fue un grupo de música pop/rock español, mallorquín concretamente, de música rock en los años 60. Fue uno de los pocos que triunfaron a nivel internacional. El éxito se logró gracias al vocalista; Michael Volker Kögel, conocido artísticamente como Mike Kennedy; que cantaba en inglés. Su gran éxito es 'Black Is Black' canción de 1966 que llegó al puesto número 2 de la lista de ventas de Reino Unido y al número 4 en Estado Unidos (Todo un logro tratándose de un grupo español).

Julio Franco jugó en 31 años y 49 temporadas profesionales en cinco países

Franco, de 49 años, decidió "colgar los spikes" la semana pasada, luego de agotar 128 turnos con los Tigres de Quintana Roo en su tercera participación en la Liga Mexicana de Verano.

Franco trataba de mantenerse activo hasta cumplir los 50 años (el próximo 23 de agosto), pero un promedio de .250 (128-32) en una liga de categoría triple A fue el indicativo que necesitaba para darse cuenta de que su carrera había terminado. "Fue lo más difícil de mi vida.

A Franco le tomó cinco años alcanzar las Grandes Ligas (1982) y apenas con 16 juegos, fue transferido a los Indios de Cleveland, donde inmediatamente se estableció como una estrella. Franco bateó .273 con ocho jonrones y 80 carreras impulsadas como torpedero regular de Cleveland en 1983 para terminar segundo en la votación por el Novato del Año de la Liga Americana, detrás de Ron Kittle, de los Medias Blancas de Chicago. Accionó por 23 temporadas con Filadelfia, Cleveland, Texas, Medias Blancas, Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, Atlanta y Mets de Nueva York. Bateó .298 (2,586 hits en 8,677 turnos) en las Grandes Ligas. En medio de esa carrera hubo intervarlos en donde Franco jugó en Japón (1995 y 1998), Corea (2000) y México (1999, 2001 y 2008). Al mismo tiempo, jugó por 14 temporadas en la Liga Invernal de República Dominicana, comenzando en la campaña 1979-80 y finalizando en la 2004-05.

En su país jugó con Leones del Escogido desde 1979 a 1988 y entonces con el equipo de su pueblo natal, Estrellas Orientales, desde 1991. El año pasado, después de ser despedido por los Mets, Franco jugó en dos categorías de ligas menores (A y triple A) antes de ser llamado a las mayores por los Bravos de Atlanta.

Fue campeón de bateo de la Liga Americana en 1991 (.341 con Texas), de la Liga Dominicana en 1997-98 (cuando bateó .436, el quinto bateador de .400 en el circuito, con Estrellas Orientales) y de la Liga Mexicana de Verano (.423 en 1999 con Tigres de México). Si sumamos sus 23 temporadas en Grandes Ligas, 14 en la Liga Invernal, seis en ligas menores, tres en México, dos en Japón y una en Corea obtenemos el impresionante resultado de 49 campeonatos profesionales.

Solamente en las series regulares de estos torneos, Franco despachó 4,274 imparables en 13,899 turnos para un promedio de .308. Una carrera asombrosa que llevó al dominicano a dar líneas por todos lados en los diamantes de dos continentes y cinco países durante más de tres décadas. En varias oportunidades, Franco ha sido barajado como el posible manager de las Estrellas en Dominicana y es casi seguro que ahora que se retiró como jugador pase a ser el principal candidato al puesto en la próxima temporada, que comienza en octubre.

Bravos de Boston Titles – The Basics

I want to go over certain basic information over the Bravos de Boston title situation for the benefit of the general public, meaning those who are not necessarily familiar with the area. As I develop this series I will provide more specifics to the extent possible.

Bravos de Boston is a sector of Vieques recorded within the Puerto Rico Property Registry as one piece of land of about 300 “cuerdas” or 11,791.17 square meters, which is 3,930.39 square meters per “cuerda”. For your information and reference, one “acre” is 4,046.90 square meters. This land or area is named as the Santa María Resettlement Track for Property Registry purposes.

In contrast to what appears in the Property Registry, Bravos de Boston is divided into more than 860 independent lots varying in size from 140 square meters to lots measuring various thousands of meters. The history of this sector and how this “segregation” came about is quite interesting but not the subject of this article.

Back in the 80’s, the Municipality of Vieques began work on creating records on the Bravos de Boston lots. These records were prepared by hand and penciled into millimeter paper literally pasted together by scotch tape. GPS was not available to surveyors and engineers, so everything was done by hand and what today are archaic instruments. These documents are in surprisingly good condition and worth looking at for anyone wondering about the history of this sector of Vieques.

The current set of plans is comprised of 20 pages which contain detailed information on every parcel or lot in Bravos de Boston except for those located along the coast line.

The fact that these lots do not appear in the Puerto Rico Property Registry, does not mean that their occupants are not the rightful “owners” of these lots.

Yanks - Rays III: The Awakening?

As I mentioned before I'll be attending the New York Metropolitans - Atlanta Bravos game here in Atlanta, so no live bloggy-goodness today. However, I can tell you a few fun facts that will hopefully increase your enjoyment of the game!

1. CMW vs. TB? 6-4 in 11 starts with 3.82 earned runs, on average, per nine innings. He's also held their bats to just 260 hits per thousand ABs (I'm guessing this data is extrapolated as its hard to imagine facing 1,000 hitters in 11 starts). Carl Crawford, however, is hitting .323 against the Wang. Gomes, on the other hand, is hitting .160 against him in 27 ABs. Carlos Pena and BJ Upton have both hit .333 in 11 ABs. The rest of the Rays' lineup hasn't faced Wang more than maybe 10 times collectively. Let's hope that advantage helps put away those pesky Rays!

2. James Shields, cousin of the Blue Jays' injured 3B Aaron Rowand, is starting for the Tampa Ray Bays (or something like that). He's faced most of the Yankee line-up about a dozen times and he's been hit hard by Jeter (.400 with 1 HR), Cano (.333 with 1 HR), Smilin' Bobby (.500 with 1 HR), and especially Damon and Matsui (both .571 with 2 dingers). What about A-Rod, you ask? Not so much - he's only hit .182 against Shields. Giambi? Not too good either, 0-4 with a BB in 5 plate appearances.

3. Questions for the game: Will Giambi play? If he sits or DHs, that will leave Betemit or Ensburg at first with Duncan serving his suspension. Will GI Joe manage? The Yankees are 0-2 without him in the dugout. Perhaps they're sneaking in ice cream behind his back and the karma is coming around to bite them in the ass? Will we see 7 IP from Wang, then Joba-Mo-Let's Go? Will Santana overpower the Braves line-up and pick up a victory over Smoltz? Oh, wait, that's the Metros game...

Alrighty, this is my first post of the season, and its coming about two days late (and narry a dollar short, thank you wordpress!) - sorry. I was playing colour commentator during the Braves - Pirates game on Monday (3/31 - 12-11 Pie-rats in 12 innings) to a friend of mine and thought I should try blogging about the Yankees. I'm sure I'll be covering more ground than just the good ol' NY of Y, but that'll be the primary focus.

First, I could tell you a bit about myself. I grew up in upstate New York in a town called Vestal, which is a suburb of Binghamton. I lived there until the day after I graduated high school, when I began my journey in "real" life with Basic Combat Training in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The day after I graduated there, I moved on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. I studied (and partied) hard there for 4 years and left with a degree in Aerospace Studies, minors in Applied Meteorology, Aeronautical Studies, and International Relations, a commercial multi-engine flight rating (as well as an instrument rating), and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve. After a few months of training (and partying) in Ft. Eustis, VA, I moved to Atlanta, GA and started working as a mechanical cost estimator. Only a month and a half later, I was activated for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 15 months later, I'm back in Atlanta, back at my desk job, and bored out of my mind!

I have been rabidly following the Yankees' off-season and pre-season, and I'm ready for real baseball to get here! What, it already did? Oh, that's right, I'm two days late... Okay, on to baseball in a few...

A Simple Hello Goes a Long Way....

Dear Friends:

I wanted to say HELLO after a prolonged absence from the "blog waves" of ViequesLaw.com for so many good reasons.

Mostly, we have been swamped with inquiries about the Bravos de Boston and Villa Borinquen title situations, and now the new "almost-ready-to-start" project at Monte Carmelo as well. We have also seen an increase activity in the number of closings and other related work, mostly associated with our involvement in new ventures "in the works" for the benefit of Vieques and all viequenses.

Recently, my staff and I have spent almot as many days in Vieques and at the Fajardo Property Registry as I have spent in San Juan. To give you an idea, just two weeks ago I dedicated 4 full days to Vieques at Vieques. All these and the inminent opening of the offfice at La Esperanza, and the purchase of a new building for the San Juan Office, has really got me and my team rolling.

In the end, the purpose is to help many while also helping our clients and our team members. All this work will (must) translate into many articles written an published within the coming weeks and at an increased pace.

Again, I just wanted to say HELLO... for now.

Quiero decirles HOLA después de una prolongada ausencia de ViequesLaw.com por muchas buenas razones.

Esencialmente, hemos estados super ocupados con muchos asuntos relacionados con las situaciones de título de Bravos de Boston y Villa Borinquen, y también con los asuntos de Monte Carmelo que están a punto de comenzar. También hemos notado un incremento en el número de cierres que estamos manejando al igual que en otros trabajos relacionados, principalmente por nuestro envolvimiento en actividades nuevas para e beneficio de Vieques y de los viequenses.

Para que tengan una idea, recientemente mi personal y yo hemos estado deedicando más tiempo a los asuntos de Vieques hasta el punto que hace apenas un par de semanas dediqué un total de 4 días a asuntos de Vieques en Vieques y no en San Juan. Además de lo anterior, también tenemos la inminente apertura de la oficina en La Esperanza y la compra de un edificio para la Oficina de San Juan.

En realidad son muchas las cosas buenas que están sucediendo, pero estas se tienen que traducir en más ayuda para nuestro público, nuestros amigos y nuestro equipo de trabajo. Ello también resultará en más artículos y más información para ustedes.

Bueno, en fin, solamente quería decirles "HOLA."

Venían de grupos anteriores como “Los Sonors” y “Los Runaway”, pero su carrera hacia la fama comenzó un domingo de 1966 cuando se presentaron en el programa radiofónico de “El Gran Musical”, de la Cadena SER, dirigido y presentado por Tomás Martín Blanco. Aquel día fueron presentados como un grupo que ni siquiera tenían nombre, y los oyentes, adolescentes en su mayoría, votaron para encontrárselo: Los Bravos. La primera canción que cantaron en aquel programa fue “No sé mi nombre”, del cual se hizo una grabación especial en directo que se regaló a todos los socios del programa (tengo ese single todavía). Hasta algunos años más tarde no se comercializó dicho tema.
Sus componentes: Mike Kennedy (el cantante, Alemania, nacido en 1944), Manolo (órgano, Sevilla, 1942-1968), Tony (guitarra, Madrid 1944), Miguel (Coruña, bajo 1944) y Pablo (Barcelona 1943).
Temas muy conocidos en la época: “Black is black” (1966); “La moto” (1967); “Los chicos con las chicas” (1967); “Bring A Little Lovin” (1968).
