Keane nasceu na Inglaterra, mais precisamente na cidade de Battle. É formada por Tim Rice-Oxley (compositor e pianista), Tom Chaplin (vocalista) e Richard Hughes (bateria). Anteriormente a banda tinha um guitarrista, Dominic Scott, que deixou a banda em 2001. As principais influências do Keane são U2, Oasis, R.E.M., The Smiths, Radiohead, Queen, e outros.

Ano passado a banda esteve no Brasil com a turnê do CD "Under the Iron Sea", que passou por São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. Esse ano lançaram um novo single que foi ditribuído pela internet apenas para fãs que entravam no site e cadastravam seus e-mails,  recebendo através dele a faixa "Spiralling". Essa semana eles lançaram o clipe robótico do single e vocês conferem aqui:

Na época que esse disco foi lançado, o brit-pop estava em decadência. A capa do disco faz claramente referência à isso: uma foto borrada de uma maca sendo empurrada para o que parece ser uma sala de cirurgia, ou seja, "estamos morrendo, salve-nos". E foi mais ou menos o que aconteceu - esse disco meio que salvou por algum tempo o Blur - mas o final era certamente inevitável e todos sabiam disso. Tanto que, um ano depois, o brit-pop foi enterrado.

Mas o disco mostra uma enorme transição da banda Blur em si. O disco deixou de lado aquela coisa britânica que conseguimos perceber a cada faixa e se tornou mais americanizada. Como combater bandas como Everclear e Chumbawamba que conquistavam o topo das paradas??? Como fazer hits de sucesso??? Simples: copiando.

E ai surgiu a bombástica "Song 2" que até hoje é a canção mais conhecida da banda (Mas de longe, não é uma das melhores). Um refrão simples, gritinhos desafinados e pouco mais de 2 minutos de pancadaria que lembra o bom e velho punk, mas com um quê de rock alternativo. E Damon Albarn se supera nesse trabalho, compondo canções que chegam a ser dolorosas como "Strange News For Another Star" e "Country Sad Ballad Man". Vale a pena conferir

So I'm rocking Pandora Radio right now.  I know, late to party but I have a Brit Rock station I set up with bands I've been meaning to get like the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party.  Yes, it's not strictly Brit but you know, that sound.  I also have a Foo Fighters station (duh).

I've also entered week 7 of Weight Watchers and have lost 10 pounds.  Yeh.  I mean I'm proud and it's not too hard, during the week.  But then the weekend comes around with it's drinking marathons and delicious meat parties.  We'll keep trucking along and see what develops.  I would like to lose 10% by the end of the month but that doesn't seem likely to happen. 

New semester of classes.  They're totally different than anything I've done.  It's mostly performance based stuff, storytelling, read alouds, draw and tell.  Me, they want me to draw a story.  But it pulls me out of my comfort zone, YAs, and gives me a challenge which for some reason I feel the need to do. 

Speaking of challenges I applied to be a Special Events Educator Volunteer at the Planetarium.  Hoping to get more exposure to working with kids of all ages.  So I don't have to say, two years ago when I student taught.  Because really, I'm not busy enough, full-time job, two classes, exercise, and now throw an volunteer position on the pile.  Yes!

That's what I'm thinking about this morning.  Maybe I'll try it again tomorrow, without the royal "we."  I just like to pretend there are always people with me.  Makes the day go by.

Manja aquele ruivinho sardento e mirrado, extremamente nerd e sempre com um catarrinho escorrendo do nariz, que era alvo de zoação na sua escola? Então, agora imagina ele se revoltando contra o mundo, fazendo um milhão de tatuagens, cuspindo em fotógrafos e berrando canções cheias de sátiras, escárnio e humor negro. Essa é mais ou menos a fórmula de sucesso dos britânicos do Gallows.

Formada em 2005 pelo magrelíssimo Frank Carter, a banda foi considerada a melhor do ano de 2007 pelo semanário inglês New Musical Express, desbancando veteranos de sucesso e venerados pelos britânicos, como Oasis e Primal Scream. O som que mistura hardcore porradinha no melhor estilo Dead Kennedys e punk rock atual na mesma pegada de Bad Religion, é curto, rápido e preciso. As composições são cheias de piadas sádicas que não agradam a muitos ouvidos, mas que com toda certeza fazem a cabeça da molecada.

O grande sucesso da banda veio com o game de Playstation 2, "Guitar Hero" III: Legends Of Rock". O single "In the Belly Of a Shark" ganhou proporções inimagináveis e foi responsável pelo maior tumulto que aconteceu no Reading Festival. Junto com a performance enigmática do franguinho Frank (uma mistura heterogênea de Iggy Pop com The Rapture), tornou-se uma explosão sonora.

Ventidue sogni sotto forma di 21 canzoni e un breve racconto dal titolo “The Missing Dream” di Simon Armitage. Un piccolo tributo a se stessi dall'iniziale “Light Night” alla conclusiva “Night Lights”; ballata acustica che è Paul Weller al cento per cento la prima, festosa e chiassosa chiusura di puro pop psichedelico inglese la seconda. Nel mezzo c'è spazio per il soul impastato con l'asfalto della title track (che rinverdisce i fasti di A “Town Called Malice” di Jammiana memoria) e per il soul sopraffino di “Empty Ring” e “Cold Moments”; ma anche per la psichedelia di “Song For Alice” (dedicata alla vedova di John Coltrane, da poco scomparsa) e il pop sporco di “Push it Along” o quello tipicamente inglese e scintillante di “Echoes Around The Sun” e “Sea Spray”.

Certo, in un'ora e quasi dieci minuti di musica c'è anche qualche passo falso, e ci mancherebbe altro. Convince poco, ad esempio, “God” che pure vede alla voce recitante l'ex “Stone Roses” Aziz Ibrahim, così come non lasciano il segno “111” e “A Dream Reprise”. Ma sono solo episodi sporadici, accenni di nuvole in un orizzonte celeste e sereno come quello disegnato dal gioiello “Black River”, in cui Paul si fa affiancare dall'ex leader dei Pulp Graham Coxon in una colorata e sghemba scorribanda sonora.

La comparsata di Coxon non è la sola degna di nota di un disco dove ci mettono le mani anche un genio come Robert Wyatt (“Songs for Alice”), due devoti del credo welleriano: gli Oasis Noel Gallagher e Gem Archer (“Echoes Around the Sun”), oltre al già citato Ibrahim.  Tutti convenuti alla festa di compleanno di Paul Weller, tutti pronti a mettersi al suo servizio. Anche se alla fine dei conti gli episodi migliori del disco restano quelli in cui Paul Weller fa tutto da solo. Come l'assoluto capolavoro “Invisibile”: ballata per piano e voce da mettere i brividi e che dal primo ascolto appare già destinata ad accompagnarti per il resto della vita.

In definitiva un album tanto ricco quanto ambizioso, in cui dopo tanti anni Paul Weller torna a mettere il suo genio a disposizione della musica e non solo del suo ego. Non che il Modfather sia uno cui non piaccia debordare talvolta, ma il bello di questi 21 sogni sonori è proprio la loro intrinseca semplicità musicale, la stessa che da ormai un trentennio accompagna di Paul Weller nei suoi momenti migliori.

Kylie Minogue se apresentará em São Paulo, no Credicard Hall em novembro. Ingressos pro show da musa pop já estão disponíveis para compra na Ticket Master, mas eu aconselho a comprar só daqui uma semana ou duas, afinal quem comprou o dos Stone Temple Pilots rodou, porque a banda ainda nem confirmou presença aqui no país. Kylie fecha a tríade pop oitentista que se apresentará por aqui, também composta por Madonna e Cindy Lauper. O ano das divas bee!

Outra apresentação confirmada é a dos ingleses do Kaiser Chiefs. Banda esperta com hits dançantes e infalíveis irá se apresentar no Festival Planeta Terra em São Paulo, conforme anunciado na agenda de shows no site do grupo. Já rolavam boatos mas nenhuma confirmação oficial, então fica ai  a certeza de que virão!  Para o mesmo festival já estão confirmados Bloc Party e Jesus & Mary Chain, e ainda rolam boatos de Maroon 5, Foals e uma dúzia de outras atrações hehe

Por fim e não menos importante, confirmadas pelo menos três apresentações de uma das melhores bandas atualmente, o R.E.M. A banda fará duas apresentações em São Paulo e uma em Porto Alegre. Cogitam-se ainda apresentações no Rio, BH e Brasília. Só esperando pra ver ;~

Esse é o nome da música que o Franz Ferdinand disponibilizou hoje no site oficial deles por tempo limitado. Se você é fã e quer ouvi-la, deve fazer um pequeno cadastro no site e terá acesso ao arquivo para audição online. Se não conhece, também pode fazer isso, ou esperar que saia no game Madden 09 que logo logo estará nas lojas. Segundo a banda esse não é um novo single, ou um novo hit, ou um possível novo clipe, é só uma experimentação.

O grupo, considerado um dos principais dessa nova geração alternativa, está gravando um novo disco que ainda não tem nome, mas que já tem data para ser lançado: janeiro de 2009. Segundo fontes oficiais (Leia revistas especializada ham?!), estão fazendo uma bagunça tremenda nos estúdios e deixando os produtores musicais retardados. Afinal, que banda comum grava os sons de alguém escalando uma parede para colocar na música?

Pois bem, eles estão fazendo coisas desse tipo e muitas outras experimentações que vão desde sonoridades bizarras até batidas sul-americanas (Samba!) e africanas. O negócio é esperar pra ver né?!

É só pintar um novo álbum que o Oasis arranja uma treta pra aparecer na mídia. De lei. Sempre acontece. Depois do pronunciamento do novo disco "Dig Out Your Soul" com lançamento previsto para outubro, já era de se esperar barraco.

Começou contra o Jay Z. Os irmãos Gallagher criticaram a apresentação de um rapper no Festival Glastonbury, que aparentemente sujaria a imagem purista, rock'n'roll e tradicional de um dos maiores eventos musicais do mundo. Claro que ignoraram apresentações de jazz e música eletrônica anteriormente, mas quem se importa??? Fato que o marido da Beyoncé comprou a briga e vêm 'aloprando' o hit "Wonderwall" em suas apresentações pelo mundo.

Agora o Liam Gallagher resolveu adicionar novos personagens nas tretas. Numa entrevista para o semanário inglês New Musical Express falaram que os fãs de Radiohead e Coldplay são feios e chatos como os integrantes das bandas. Parecem que não se divertem nunca e ficam lamentando suas vidinhas medíocres. Bom, todo mundo sabe que o Thom York não é flor que se cheire... E o Chris Martin já até praticou pugilismo em uns paparazis por ai... E vale ressaltar que toda essa galera é britânica. Ou seja, logo mais novos capítulos da novela "Lançando um CD do Oasis" \o/

O que vai acontecer, hum???

Hoje eu tava com uma preguiça imensa de postar algo, mas a notícia me abalou e eu estou postando =P

Recentemente a banda The Verve, um dos quatro pilatres do chamado brit-rock dos anos 90 (Ou rock britânico, como preferir, cujos outros 3 pilares eram Oasis, Blur e Pulp), voltou como uma fênix e reanimou os fãs já descrentes de que haveriam trabalhos inéditos do grupo. Pois bem, gravaram um novo disco recém lançado e até fizeram algumas apresentações ao vivo. Ao que tudo indicava, estavam novamente na ativa mesmo. Porém, o vocalista Richard Ashcroft acabou de anunciar na BBC1 que irá voltar para a carreira solo e abandonar a banda xO

Segundo o próprio, só aceitou gravar esse novo disco porque achava uma vergonha deixar a banda dormindo desde 1999 quando os músicos pertencentes à ela têm tanto talento para mostrar. Mas ele prefere seguir sozinho, não tem mais tesão para o quarteto.

Quem chegou a ter esperanças de uma apresentação deles aqui no Brasil, senta e chora. Já era. Tchau tchau.

Pra quem não lembra, eles foram responsáveis por alguns hits de sucesso como "Lucky Man" e o memorável "Bittersweat Symphony" que até ganhou um remix do Moby.

Jen, Katie, and I went straight to this stage after lunch (and after stocking up on wine in sports bottles!), found plenty of room on the left side of the crowd, and danced our excited little hearts out to the Brit-blues-pop that is Duffy. She is/was absolutely adorable.

She's so little!

For those of you that like the Brit-chick rock such as Adele and that Amy Winehouse girl, you'll appreciate the sometimes-gritty, sometimes-girlie bluesiness that Duffy brings.

Her radio release, "Mercy," was a total treat - energetic, dance-worthy, hands-up-in-the-air kind of street fun. I loved it.

I wish we'd caught the whole set, but everything we heard was ruggedly sweet.

Will I buy the album? Yes, with my iTunes gift card!
Will I check her out next time she comes here? Well, yes, but she was here just prior to Lolla, so that'll be awhile.

O Coldplay disponibilizou ontem no seu site oficial uma faixa inédita totalmente gratuita para download. A faixa "Death Will Never Conquer" não está incluída no novo disco da banda "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends", mas segundo Chris Martin, será parte integra dos sets na nova tournê.

Esse disco está excelente, com a cara de quem o produziu mesmo (Brian Eno).

Keane - Some awesome tracks but I don't think they're really ones that make you want to bop around and pretend that you're 18 again.

Because of my newest affair with last.fm,  I've discovered a plethora of new bands that have hit hard in across the seas, but have no name over here.  The bad side, is that they don't seem to feel the need to tour the states just to please me, but the good news is, I have found some absofuckingfabulous music.  A few you may recognize are CSS with "Music is my hot hot sex"...apparently from an Apple commercial fall of '07 and the Ting Tings (pictured above) who have just hit big with "Shut up and let me go".  If either of these tickle your music clitoris, here are a few others to check out: (which PS, will be on my next mix, due out next week..)

The Wombats:  "Let's Dance to Joy Division"  This band rocks my fucking world.  The Kooks are just the tip of the UK iceberg...there's so much music over there that  I'm developing a new obsession with... check it out:

The Hoosiers: "Cops & Robbers".  Please note that their song "Worried about Ray" caught my ears on my last mix.  The more I hear from these guys, the harder I fall.  The Hoosiers are the perfect Uk summer catch.

Islands: "Creeper"...if Canada serves no other purpose, it is to bring us this fabulously original, odd, spunky & funky music by a band that goes by "Islands".  "The Arm" was on my last mix, and didn't really make any sense from me, but I was drawn to it like a drug.  No video...but check out this song.  These guys are going places...

The Script: "We Cry". This song is much more of a kind of R&B meets rock kind of deal.  Apparently they are Irish, well I'll kiss them any day if they keep making music like this.  Trust me, you'll hear this on the radio.

Soho Dolls : "Stripper"  Now that's the epitome of supersexed brit electro-pop.  I don't know what's up with my music taste lately.  Guess my hormones are in overdrive.  I find this pleasantly satisfying though...no this isn't my usual rocking out music, but it's damn sexy, that's for sure.

Hope you find something you like.  This is the music that's rocking my world lately.  I'm eating it up like a fat kid eats cake (thanks 50).

But Jackdaw4 is more than just campy, I think. I've been listening to this London-based outfit for a couple of years now after being introduced to their music by die-hard listeners on last.fm. They're quite a unique bunch in this age of predictable pop. But then again, maybe it's just me. My biggest influences are Queen and the Beatles, and any artist that succeeds in blending the two genre together wins my approval right off the bat.

Here's a video of another one of their awesome song, Frobisher's Last Stand, done live. Check them out as they recreate the studio version's lush harmonies of this song on stage. Brilliant!
