Il film, ancora senza titolo, sarà diretto da Edward James Olmos, e narrerà eventi precendenti la miniserie, concentrandosi sui personaggi del Cylon numero uno, conosciuto come Cavil (interpretato da Dean Stockwell), sul leader della resistenza Sam T. Anders (Micheal Trucco) e sul capo Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas).

Agli inizi i Cylon avevano un piano, ma non avevano tenuto conto dei sopravvissuti. Durante il caos seguito al bombardamento nucleare di Caprica, potenti agenti Cylon si oppongono alle astronavi umane che tentano di lasciare il pianeta, e si trovano a lottare contro i combattenti della resistenza presenti ancora sul pianeta.

Il film sarà scritto da Jane Espenson. Le riprese cominceranno alla fine dell'estate a Vancouver. Dopo la messa in onda su Sci Fi, il film verrà pubblicato in DVD dalla Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

They were probably thinking, "So come watch this damn movie or we're royally screwed!"

As BATTLESTAR GALACTICA heads into its fourth and final season, CAPRICA will expand on the Galactica world and get deeper into the origins of the story whilst promising to deliver more of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting, family conflict and hardcore action that fans have come to love.

Set 50 years before BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, CAPRICA follows two rival families – the Graystones and the Adamas. Bound together by tragedy, their ensuing struggle will determine the fate of the 12 Colonies.

CAPRICA is a society rife with advanced technology. Little do they know they are trembling on the brink of the creation of the first CYLON (cybernetic life-form node).

The Graystones and Adamas come from different cultures and wildly different socio-economic backgrounds. Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz, The Mask, Pulp Fiction) is a computer genius and the leading businessman of the 12 Colonies. His wife, Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcolmson, Deadwood, ER) is an elite neurosurgeon. Joseph Adama (Esai Morales, NYPD Blue) is an immigrant, a lawyer with ties to the mob, and a father who is desperate to reconnect with his estranged son, William (Sina Najafi).

Their bitter rivalry will bring the end of life as they know it. Their children are the future.

Four hours of BSG goodness on Saturday night, two hours Sunday night, and at least three hours the following weekend! Check your local listings. It appears there will be plenty of late-night BSG for insomniacs across the country, all summer long!

Another note for Canadian fans-- Space Channel has secured the rights to Caprica, whenever the decision is made to air it. Apparently in September, TV execs at NBC Universal (which owns Sci-Fi Channel) will decide if Caprica will air as a two-hour movie in the Fall, or hold it back until the new year and launch it as a series. The initial trailer for Caprica has appeared online, and you can find it here.

I'm personally looking forward to this and the trailer didn't dissapoint. Looks moody, looks intelligent and looks AWESOME.

SciFi Channel President David Howe confirmed that series four will resume in January and that it will run for 11 episodes.

He also said that a decision on whether or not to take Caprica to series would come in late August or early September after execs see a working edit.  Howe also said that if Caprica went to a series, the network was thinking long-term and not a 13-episode limited run series.

If passed over for a series, Caprica could air as early as this fall.

Finally, there will be new webisodes for the fourth season that will air on SciFi’s web-site.  No word yet on when they will begin.

• Moore confirmed that the final half of the season will run eleven hours.

• The final three episodes being devoted to the series finale.

• Moore did tease that no matter if the finale runs three or four hours, fans will get an extended cut on the DVD release.

• Moore confirmed that series writer Jane Espenson is penning the two-hour Galactica movie and offered a few hints as to what fans can expect.

• “It’ll be a la “Razor,” it’ll won’t be contemporary to where the fourth season is.

• As for Caprica going to a series, Moore said he is optimistic about the chances.

“I think where Caprica is, there’s a lot of positive momentum for it. They liked the script and they see all the dailies, so I had conversations with them during shooting and after shooting and they were very excited about what they were seeing.” Moore said.  ”I talked to [Sci Fi’s] executive vice president of original programming] Mark [Stern], I talked to [NBC Universal head of cable] Bonnie [Hammer], and they were saying, “This looks amazing.” And I’ve seen it cut together and it looks really good. ”

• I don't even care if Stella turns out to be the mother or not, I'm just SUPER STOKED she's going to be on several episodes of HIMYM. E! Source
• Since we couldn't get Lauren Graham on the Office Not a Spin Off and she still has that holding deal with NBC, can we get her a round of stunt casting through the NBC shows? Like can you imagine adding her funny to the hysterical cast of Chuck??? LG needs to be BACK on tv in a comedy.
• WHOA buddy, I just thought I was stoked for Caprica, but the trailer gets me just giddy with geek bumps.
• I'm not excited about any of the pilots I can read about, with the exception of Caprica. But you wanna send me screeners......my mind could be swayed.

Não é apenas 24 horas que terá um filme para tv ue servirá de prévia para a próxima temporada. Battlestar Galactica  também exibirá um filme com cerca de 2 horas de duração com a participação de Eric Stoltz.
O filme será exibido em dezembro e  mostrará a rivalidade das famílias Graystone e Adama (família do futuro capitão da nave).

As any Battlestar Galactica fan knows, a prequel series called Caprica will begin airing late this year/early next year (depending on whether it's picked up as a series) on Sci Fi Channel. While the loss of BSG in early '09 will devastate me, I have high hopes that Caprica will be a worthy successor of my love.

Here's a brief synopsis of the plot (mostly from an article on Watch with Kristin which is a tad more spoilery than I'm writing here):

The series is set on Caprica, one of the Twelve Colonies, approximately 50-70 years before the events depicted in the first episodes of Battlestar Galactica. At this time, the Colonies were at peace and at the cusp of the technological breakthrough that would make artificial intelligence possible -- and hence, the creation of the Cylons.

At the forefront of this breakthrough is the Graystone family, owners of the computer giant company that is spearheading the research and development. The Graystones include father Daniel, a computer genius; mother Amanda, a brilliant surgeon and unfaithful wife; and their daughter, Zoe, who is martyred to her boyfriend's religious fanaticism. Shortly before her death, Zoe installs the rudimentary elements of her personality and DNA into a machine, creating a digital twin of herself, Zoe-A.

After the human Zoe's death, Daniel uses these raw materials, some stolen technology and his own grief to cobble together "a robotic version of his dead daughter." This robot version, known as Zoe-R, is a Cylonic Eve, the first of her kind.

Meanwhile, Joseph Adama (father to Bill Adama and grandfather to Lee Adama of BSG) is a renowned civil liberties lawyer whose daughter has also recently died. With help from Daniel Graystone, Joseph Adama soon creates a robot version of his own deceased child -- a decision he soon regrets. With the loss of his daughter and the new moral and ethical dilemmas he now faces, Joseph turns to his young son Bill for comfort, and the two grow closer as the Twelve Colonies change forever.

Sounds pretty frakking awesome to me! And now we have a trailer too!

It looks a lot different than what I expected, but necessarily in a bad way. I wonder which daughter it is we see throughout the trailer -- Zoe or Adama's daughter, Tamara. And does anyone else get an evil vibe off of her? What do you think of the plot and/or trailer of Caprica? Will you watch? And would you like to see more ancestors of our beloved BSG characters, or have Caprica operate more independently?

En realidad no se sabe aún con seguridad (de ahí el "quizás" del título) si será una serie, o una película para televisión, o un piloto que no llegue a buen puerto (como otro que yo me sé). Pero sea lo que sea, no me lo pienso perder.

La historia se sitúa 50 años antes de cuando empieza Battlestar Galactica. La trama se centra en la relación entre dos familias que han perdido una hija. El patriarca de una de ellas, Daniel Graystone, decide crear una copia de su hija mediante la avanzada inteligencia artificial. En esto choca contra el patriarca de la otra familia: Joseph Adama (casualmente padre del protagonista de Battlestar Galactica, William Adama).

Y de esa situación, si hay serie, veremos cómo se llega a las primeras guerras cylon. Porque nadie duda que la copia de la hija muerta del tal Graystone es el origen de los cylons. Y por supuesto la serie, viniendo de quienes viene, estará repleta de complejos conflictos tanto políticos como religiosos (entre los creyentes en los dioses de las colonias, que no son otros que nuestros dioses griegos, y una religión monoteísta que surge en secreto, que seguramente será la misma que practican los cylons medio siglo más tarde). Y también habrá personajes muy interesantes y tridimensionales, un gobierno incompetente y corrupto, como todos, vamos, atentados terroristas, profecías y visiones, y situaciones inevitables. Creo que será Battlestar Galactica pero sin naves. Y que se parezca mínimamente a su serie madre es bueno, muy bueno.

De momento os dejo el trailer, que pinta demasiado bien (¿tendré que esperar hasta otoño, o hasta navidad, O HASTA 2008, para verla?). Hacéos unas cuantas pajas viéndolo.

If only people would get past the genre label they would discover that BSG is first and foremost a drama, albeit an unconventional one. Societal issues, moral dilemmas, and what drives the human condition are just some of the cornerstones that make it more than just shoot 'em up fodder for a young male demographic. Take away the gadgets and spaceships and people would see the core of the show is about people dealing with trauma during a time of war and uncertainty. Sound somewhat familiar to what's going on in the world today? I'm actually disappointed when The Office mocks the show's credibility (the character of Dwight is a avid follower of BSG).

The short-lived Space: Above and Beyond series that aired on FOX back in the late 90's had somewhat of a similar premise. Marines fighting in space. It had strong writing but couldn't find an audience which makes me appreciate how long BSG has stuck around. Word of mouth can do some wondrous things in this internet age and the producers of the show have made it clear that they are new media savvy.

So let me make this very clear. If you haven't seen Battlestar Galactica you are missing out on one of the most critically acclaimed shows in recent memory. Google it. Ask around. You'll find rave reviews, and not just from ubernerds. Download the first season right now and strap yourself in for a crazy ride. Everyone I know who's taken the time to sit down and experience an episode has gotten hooked immediately. It's like 24 in space. You can thank me when you've caught up to the current season four.

In the meantime, here's the trailer for the spinoff show entitled Caprica. This new series is set 40 years before the events of BSG and focuses on the early development of the artificial intelligence that will become the Cylons.

Si alguna historia puede reunir todos los puntos que me gustan de la ci-fi cyberpunk. ¿Que es ser humano? ¿Que es un ser consciente? El mito de crear vida, pero sobre todo, ser capaz de vencer la muerte. Y además, le damos un toque de cine negro, con detalles religiosos, que nos explicaran por fin de donde surge la religión del dios unico, y creamos una Caprica, o más bien una sociedad Colonial, mucho más oscura y compleja, entonces poco más se puede pedir. Ahora ya no hay naves espaciales, sino una historia de ciencia ficción que todos teneis que probar. Sin excusas.
