Las fuertes pérdidas ocasionadas por la productora estadounidense, han motivado que su estudio de Los Angeles cierre sus puertas. De todas formas, los empleados que están trabajando en estos momentos en TNA IMPACT! podrán trasladarse a las oficinas de San Diego, para seguir desarrollando desde allí su función. Recordad que el videojuego de lucha saldrá en el mes de septiembre para PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 y Wii.

Cierra will finish with a  four day stay in Rome, Italy where she is meeting with local Church leaders there in attempt to plan for future missions and opportunities to be used by God in the lives of young people there.  Please pray that she will yield to the Lord's plan for her future!

Se trata de usar una nueva opción incorporada desde la versión 169.xx de los drivers en conjunto con la extensión Composite.

Paso a explicar lo que hay que hacer.

Hay que editar el xorg.conf para agregar las opciones mencionadas:

$ sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Una vez que se abra el editor, agregamos la siguiente línea en la sección Device:

Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "true"

y a final del archivo agregamos estas líneas:

Section "Extensions"
Option          "Composite"     "Enable"
EndSection

Una vez hecho esto, reiniciamos las X (Ctrl + Alt + Backspace) y ya debería estar solucionado el problema.

Lata que vuelve a cerrar:

En algún momento tenía que llegar. Hacía tiempo que lo pensaba, pero nunca me atreví a hacerlo hasta ahora. Y es que la falta de momentos para escribir es fatal para mantener un blog en condiciones.

En anteriores entradas me quejaba de eso, pero ahora es un completo impedimento. Todo mi tiempo va a parar a Jisko, un proyecto liberado hace no mucho tiempo y que está funcionando sobre ruedas.

Sin embargo, decir que escribir aquí fue la experiencia más gratificante que he tenido en muchos años en la Red. He aprendido a bloggear, he conocido un montón de personas muy interesantes, he experimentado muchísimo apoyo por parte de todos…

Lo más importante es que no empezó como un blog serio, si no como algo muy personal, alojado en wordpress.com. Comenzó a tener algunos visitantes regulares; gracias al boca a boca, se fue conociendo cada vez más e hizo varias apariciones en sitios como Menéame, Barrapunto o en el mismísimo periódico (CiberP@ís y Aula).

Al principio todo era temática de software libre, aunque luego se fue mezclando con algunos temas personales que iba colocando aquí; gracias a ello, conseguí el empujón que me hacía falta para superar ciertos problemas.

El paso más destacable fue la decisión de coger un dominio y alojamiento “propio”. Pude disfrutar de mi propio diseño — modificando una plantilla con ayuda, que tampoco era muy manitas por aquel entonces… ni ahora, tampoco –, entre otras cosas.

No sé si el cierre se echará para siempre o no, pero tengo claro que el contenido siempre estará activo en el mismo lugar de siempre. Sigo apoyando el software libre, pero no desde el bloggeo, si no desde la parte más activa: creando un proyecto libre. Aunque algunos se piensen que soy un desertor por comprarme un Macbook y usar Mac junto a Linux (será que usar Windows con el pingüino por el mismo motivo — trabajo — es pasable y esto, no).

En cualquier caso, ha sido una de las mejores cosas que he hecho en mi vida y que estoy orgulloso de ella. Desde luego, no dejo la blogosfera, sigo con mi blog personal, aunque dudo que sea de interés para cualquiera de los lectores que pululan por aquí. También se me puede seguir por Jisko/Twitter.

Simplemente es algo que me ha pegado de lleno, Stage6 se habia convertido para mi en un sitio muy especial, un lugar en el que la experiencia obtenida siempre era bastante grata, un lugar donde podia escapar de toda la miseria de videos que rondan por sitios como Youtube, Metacafe, etc.

Todo eso suena bastante sentimental, pero es la verdad, yo idolatraba a Stage6, por mucho era mi pagina preferida para ver videos, y la noticia de su cierre no me ha dejado para nada un buen sabor de boca. Me produce un poco de nostalgia el recordar todas las horas que pase viendo y viendo videos ahi, todo lo que descubri en ese sitio, todos los videos que subi ahi y que se perdaran para siempre, y del mismo modo me causa impotencia el saber que sitios de esta calidad desaparezcan.

Las causas son simples, "Falta de tiempo y de recursos", pero yo creo que aun hay una esperanza, si en estos 3 dias que le restan de vida alguna empresa adinerada se apodera de el tal vez exista salvacion....

De momento la funcion de subir videos ha sido deshabilitada y sera hasta el proximo 28 de Febrero que Stage6 cierre sus puertas. Ese dia todos los enlazes a su pagina y videos dejaran de funcionar, los que habian publicado algun video en su blog, wesite, pagina, etc. probeniente de Stage6 ya no lo tendran y los que tenian videos, imagenes, canales y demas cosas en Stage6 lo perderan todo.

Suena muy triste, lo se, y mas para personas como yo que estan tan familiarizadas con Internet, pero aceptemos la realidad, por el momento no hay mas que hacer. Solo queda el buscar paginas analogas a lo que hacia Stage6. Yo se algunas pero siempre quedara el hueco que Stage6 ha dejado.

I’m Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I’m writing this message today to inform you that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. Upload functionality has already been turned off, and you’ll be able to view and download videos until Thursday.

I know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many Stage6 users, and I’d like to take a few moments to explain the reasons behind our decision.

We created Stage6 with the mission of empowering content creators and viewers to discover a new kind of video experience. Stage6 began as an experiment, and we always knew there was a chance that it might not succeed.

In many ways, though, the service did succeed, beyond even our own initial expectations. Stage6 became very popular very quickly. We helped gain exposure for some talented filmmakers who brought great videos to the attention of an engaged community. We helped prove that it’s possible to distribute true high definition video on the Internet. And we helped broaden the Internet video experience by offering content that is compatible with DVD players, mobile devices and other products beyond the PC.

So why are we shutting the service down? Well, the short answer is that the continued operation of Stage6 is a very expensive enterprise that requires an enormous amount of attention and resources that we are not in a position to continue to provide. There are a lot of other details involved, but at the end of the day it’s really as simple as that.

Now, why didn’t we think of that before we decided to create Stage6 in the first place, you may ask? That’s a good question. When we first created Stage6, there was a clear need for a service that would offer a true high quality video experience online because other video destinations on the Internet simply weren’t providing that to users. A gap existed, and Stage6 arrived to fill it.

As Stage6 grew quickly and dramatically (accompanied by an explosion of other sites delivering high quality video), it became clear that operating the service as a part of the larger DivX business no longer made sense. We couldn’t continue to run Stage6 and focus on our broader strategy to make it possible for anyone to enjoy high quality video on any device. So, in July of last year we announced that we were kicking off an effort to explore strategic alternatives for Stage6, which is a fancy way of saying we decided we would either have to sell it, spin it out into a private company or shut it down.

I won’t (and can’t, really) go into too much detail on those first two options other than to say that we tried really hard to find a way to keep Stage6 alive, either as its own private entity or by selling it to another company. Ultimately neither of those two scenarios was possible, and we made the hard decision to turn the lights off and cease operation of the service.

So that’s where we are today. After February 28, Stage6 will cease to exist as an online destination. But the larger DivX universe will continue to thrive. Every day new DivX Certified devices arrive on the market making it easy to move video beyond the PC. Products powered by DivX Connected, our new initiative that lets users stream video, photos, music and Internet services from the PC to the TV, are hitting retail outlets. We remain committed to empowering content creators to deliver high quality video to a wide audience, and we’ll continue to offer services that will make it easy to find videos online in the DivX format.

It’s been a wild ride, and none of it would have been possible without the support of our users. Thank you for making Stage6 everything that it was.

Hecho esto probar con Compiz desactivado. En el momento de activar Compiz, veréis que Totem se cierra al instante, dando este error: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
