Ringde CSN för att stressa pÄ lite men hon sa att "gubbarna" i umeÄ hade mycket den hÀr veckan sÄ det Àr inte alls sÀkert att jag kommer fÄ svar innan jag Äker.. Det kommer blir jobbigt men det löser sig.. Nu har jag resfeber Àr sÄ nervös inför resan... har aldrig varit borta sÄ lÀnge frÄn Sverige.. kÀnner mig som ett litet barn.. Vill klara mig sjÀlv men det Àr sÄ lÀskigt. Det hÀr Àr nÄgot jag borde ha gjort för lÀnge sen...Men det var mycket som hindrade mig framförallt jag sjÀlv... My brain wanted to post a few songs from CSN's "Live It Up", a much ignored album of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, which happens to be my favorite album of theirs.

There are a few problems with this.

First, while there are a number of good songs on this album, they are also very depressing.

See what I mean? Beautiful, heartfelt lyrics. And all uniformly depressing.

There's another problem with that theme, though. Not a song on this album can be found on Youtube being sung by CSN. A cover or two, but not enough to work with. Ticks me off, really.

I thought about playing some songs from Justin Hayward & John Lodge's "Blue Jays" album, but, you know, I've done enough Moody Blues posts for now.

And I really didn't have it in me to do a robot theme today.

So, I'll go with the songs that have mostly snapped me out of the depressed mood the other music I was listening to put me in. (Yes, picking out out music for this blog can be depressing occasionally. If you have as much good depressing music as I do...)

El Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN) ha comprobado que el equipo radiactivo de baja intensidad localizado corresponde a la maleta sustraĂ­da el pasado 29 de septiembre y ha descartado, tras los anĂĄlisis correspondientes, que se haya producido cualquier contaminaciĂłn o irradiaciĂłn de las personas y el medio ambiente.

La empresa Geotecnia y Cimientos, SA (GEOCISA) ha retirado esta mañana la maleta cuya desaparición fue notificada al CSN el mismo día de la sustracción.

El equipo radiactivo de baja densidad, que se utiliza para medir la densidad y humedad del terreno, ha sido localizado hoy en la carretera que va de PremiĂ  de Dalt a Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona).

El CSN agradece la colaboraciĂłn ciudadana y de las diversas instituciones implicadas en la resoluciĂłn de esta incidencia.

Economia:

Especulação cambial - grave erro de estratégia financeira
Mais um exemplo de especulação perigosa.
A Sadia apostou que com os dólares resultantes de exportação poderia arriscar um contrato teórico de proteção no qual ganharia juros atrelados ao CDI mais ganhos cambiais se o dólar comprasse menos que 1,60R$.
O Certificado de DepĂłsito InterbancĂĄrio Ă© um tĂ­tulo com valor de um dia e referente aos excedentes disponĂ­veis naquele dia, para captação por outros bancos. É adotado como referencial de custo de dinheiro de um dia e da rentabilidade das aplicaçÔes em fundos de investimento. A curva do CDI Ă© relativamente constante, com grau ascendente nos ganhos. Por estar na origem do atacado financeiro, paga bem e com segurança. Logicamente que em princĂ­pio sĂł os bancos tĂȘm acesso a esta linha e Ă© raro ouvir de outros casos como este da Sadia, que pĂŽde receber esta remuneração, provavelmente pelo volume e tipo de patrimĂŽnio envolvido. Mais uma vez o Mercado Financeiro foi mais esperto que o comprador do papel e saiu ganhando e bem! NĂŁo encontrei nas entrelinhas quais foram as instituiçÔes responsĂĄveis por este tipo de derivativo, mas estou curioso: o “EstadĂŁo” nĂŁo menciona seus nomes.
Nos contratos de risco assumidos a Sadia cometeu dois erros graves num mesmo papel:
-aplicou seu disponível futuro por um ano, quando as regras internas da Empresa definem seis meses de faturamento (hoje US$ 1,7 bilhão), isto além do bom senso da anålise da situação atual.
-aplicou num derivativo, ou seja, num papel vinculado aos tĂ­tulos de venda (contratos) que limitavam a “proteção” (o hedge) a um corredor entre 1,60R$/US$ atĂ© R$1,80R$/US$. Se o risco fugisse destes extremos, no caso de fugir por baixo (1,60) a empresa ganharia a variação mais os juros, e se fugisse por cima (1,80) perderia a variação.
O que aconteceu com a Sadia e mais outros que aqui aceitaram estes derivativos:
O cĂąmbio foi para acima dos 1,80R$/US$.
O “EstadĂŁo” indica uma perda da Sadia com operaçÔes financeiras de R$ 760 milhĂ”es, e as suas açÔes na Bovespa perderam 35% em relação a quinta-feira (US$1,35 bilhĂŁo).
Vårios exportadores que não contavam com os 1,80R$/US$ perderam neste mesmo tipo de aplicação. Aracruz (açÔes recuaram ontem 16,76%), CSN (queda de ontem sobre anteontem nas açÔes foi de 4,4%, ou seja, US$1,2 bilhão), e segundo o Vice-Presidente Financeiro da Braskem, Carlos Fadigas, 90% das grandes exportadoras daqui fizeram esta operação. A Braskem, não fez. A Perdigão, maior concorrente da Sadia, não fez, e vale hoje o dobro da Sadia.
Por causa disto, segundo o Bradesco, a Sadia pode ter perdido US$700 milhÔes em contratos nos EUA.
Em 2002 a Sadia teve perdas assim, pois concentrou seus riscos em tĂ­tulos pĂșblicos.
VĂĄrias empresas como, Klabin, Suzano, VCP – Votorantin Celulose e Papel (hoje tambĂ©m Aracruz) e outras perderam nisto.
O Diretor de Finanças e Desenvolvimento Corporativo da Sadia, Adriano Lima Ferreira foi despedido.

O Banco Central fez ontem um segundo leilão (em uma semana) de US$ 500 milhÔes para aumentar a liquidez (disponibilidade) do Dólar, diminuir os Reais na praça e tentar segurar a subida acima dos 1,848R$/US$, que foi o valor de venda, para taxa måxima de recompra de 1,883R$/US$ em 19 de dezembro de 2008.

PetrobrĂĄs acha Ăłleo leve (boa qualidade – melhor que a referĂȘncia Mundial: o tipo Brent) na Bacia de Santos (altura do litoral Catarinense) e acima da camada do PrĂ©-Sal. Esta descoberta de 150 bilhĂ”es de barris indica proximidade de mais petrĂłleo de boa qualidade. O Presidente da Associação Brasileira de GeĂłlogos de PetrĂłleo indica que acima do PrĂ©-Sal (exploraçÔes mais econĂŽmicas) existe um potencial de petrĂłleo e gĂĄs para ao menos duplicar as reservas Brasileiras de Ăłleo e gĂĄs, hoje na casa dos 14 bilhĂ”es de barris equivalentes a Ăłleo.

Actually, don't.  I can see right through them.

Imagine my surprise this morning as I was doing the a.m. school run and listening to D.C.-area radio station WMAL (yes, I'm becoming my mother ;-)).  On comes an ad authorized by Obamuh himself, which stated:  “Today women work to help support their families but are paid just 77 cents for every $1 a man makes. It’s just one more thing John McCain doesn’t get about our economy.”

Hmm, says me, something just doesn't ring true here.  Didn't I just read where Sen. McCain pays his female staffers $1.04 on the dollar that he pays his male staffers, while Obama pays just .83 on the dollar to his female staffers?  Could the Obama campaign get it wrong again?  Well, the numbers speak for themselves.

Somebody doesn't get it here, but it is obviously not John McCain.  It seems that everything coming from the Obama camp (and their shills at the New York Times) is Decidedly Wrong, or Decidedly Deceitful, or a Decidedly Bald Faced Lie.  I am not Decidedly Surprised.

Eftersom jag sÀllan kollar min webbhistorik och eftersom den sÀllan uppdateras dÄ jag för det mesta anvÀnder mig av favoritlÀnkarna sÄ kom det inte till min kÀnnedom förens nu, vad det Àr min bror har Àgnat lördagskvÀllen Ät. Detta Àr vad som dyker upp nÀr jag börjar titta nÀrmare pÄ saken:

Efter en snabb analys kan jag inte annat Àn misstÀnka att min bror försöker krÀnga csn-pengar för att kunna finansiera en cykelresa till okÀnd destination. VÀl pÄ plats ska inreda sitt nya hem med ikeaprylar. Kan det vara sÄ? Det Àr inte helt otÀnkbart. Det som oroar mig mest Àr att han finner denna plan sÄ pass viktig att han prioriterar den framför socialt umgÀnge, att han pririterar den framför MIG! Det hÀr krÀver nog ett familjerÄd, det tror jag banne mig.

 

I had come close to giving up on the Cubs.  I expected a monumental melt-down.  And until last Wednesday, we had no reason to not expect that meltdown.  I mean...swept by the Astros at home, then lose 2 of 3 in Cincy and then losing the opener to the Cardinals.  This is it, right?  The new '69? 

Hell no.  These boys in blue came back with a vengeance and within days, have the magic number down to 4.  That's right, if the Cubs can sweep the Brewers this week, we have won the division and the Brewers will be 11 games behind us and most likely out of the wild card chase.  In three consecutive games, the Cubs have thrown a no-hitter (thank you to WGN and CSN for allowing me to only see the last 3 outs on ESPN), thrown a one-hitter and then beat the "unbeatable" CC Sabathia. 

Now, I have to assume the responsibility for this near-collapse by the Cubs.  I got tired of putting my "W" flag up and taking it down, so I left it up for a few weeks.  Then the Cubs went downhill.  To break the curse (we are Cubs fans, right?), I took the flag down on September 10th before the Cardinals game.  They had lost 8 of 9 at that point.  My wife got me a new regular Cubs fan, so I took down the "W" flag and put the new flag up.  Their record since I did that?  5-0.  Fellow fans, I promise to not display my "W" flag with such disregard again.  It's clear that the teams success is based on my laziness in flag removal.  I won't let you, or the Cubs down.

The Cubs have a chance to take two more games off the magic number tonight.  Unfortunately, we have to suffer through an ESPN broadcast, but I will turn on the radio to see what the delay is like while listening to Pat and Ron.  The radio/tv delay is never predictable and it ranges from right on to tolerable to painful to laughable. 

There are lots of topics I could write about....like Fukudome.  But I find it so hard to find time to write on Ivy Envy.  I need to get back in the swing of things so I can write something of more substance.

What was it with the naming of bands in the 60's? I mean, The Animals, Beatles, Turtles, Byrds, Troggs, Monkees, Zombies & the Buggles, ok, so Buggles are 70's, but, well, you get my drift. It almost makes me want to Googleℱ bands with names like The Slugs* or Moth* or the Caterpillars, hey, what about the Larva's? Is that not where it all started? Mind you if you think about today's names like Scissor Sisters, Maroon 5, Foo Fighters and Mint Chicks i guess then the 60's gen "baby boomersℱ" are really laughing at us (But wait, im gen X :p). Lesson learnt, never laugh at the generation before you, cos you really know ..... its going to get worse. You will find yourself more in tune with the generation before you, much more than the one after. (*after i wrote it i researched and yes, there were 2 bands with these names, very funny)

Though many remember only their 1967 hit "Happy Together," the Turtles were one of the more enjoyable American pop groups of the 1960s, moving from folk-rock inspired by the Byrds to a sparkling fusion of Zombies-inspired chamber-pop and straight-ahead good-time pop reminiscent of the Lovin' Spoonful, the whole infused with beautiful vocal harmonies courtesy of dual frontmen Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. Though they hit number one in 1967 with the infectious "Happy Together," the Turtles scored only three more Top Ten hits and broke up by the end of the '60s. Kaylan and Volman later joined Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention during the early '70s and also recorded themselves as Flo & Eddie, but were on the oldies circuit with a revamped Turtles by the mid-'80s.

Born within two months of each other in 1947 (though on opposite coasts), Howard Kaylan (b. Howard Kaplan) and Mark Volman attended the same school, Westchester High in Los Angeles (Kaylan had moved from New York as a child). The two sang in the school's a cappella choir, where Volman soon heard about Kaylan's instrumental surf group, the Nightriders (which also included choir members Al Nichol on lead guitar, Don Murray on drums and Chuck Portz on bass). Volman joined the group just before they became the Crossfires in 1963. After high-school graduation, the Crossfires continued on while its members attended area colleges (picking up rhythm guitarist Jim Tucker along the way).

The group finally got its big break in 1965 after local disc jockey and club owner Reb Foster heard them. Foster liked the Crossfires so much, he became their manager and found the group a contract with White Whale Records. The sextet changed their name to the Tyrtles (an unveiled homage to the Byrds, soon amended to the correct spelling) and recorded a
