Images taken with the D3 reflect exceptional overall quality, broad tonal range and depth, along with extremely low noise throughout its normal ISO range of 200 to 6400. By setting the camera to its built-in options of Lo-1 or Hi-2, the ISO range of the camera can be expanded to the equivalent of ISO 100 or ISO 25,600 respectively, offering unmatched versatility in practically any shooting situation. The D3 also features an entirely new 51-point auto focus system with Nikon’s 3D Focus Tracking feature and two new LiveView shooting modes that allow photographers to frame a photograph using the camera’s high-resolution LCD monitor. The D3 uses the world’s first Scene Recognition System to greatly enhance the accuracy of auto focus, auto exposure and auto white balance detection in the camera by recognizing the subject or scene being photographed and applying this information to the calculations for the three functions.

With a shutter release time lag of only 37 milliseconds, camera start-up time of 0.12 seconds, and continuous shooting speed of up to nine frames per second with full resolution 12.1 megapixel images, the D3 is the world’s fastest digital SLR camera in its class.* The D3 is also capable of shooting at up to 11 frames per second when using the camera’s DX- format mode, with 5.1-megapixel images. New EXPEED Image Processing System The D3 features Nikon’s new EXPEED Image Processing System that is central to the speed and processing power of the camera. EXPEED delivers optimized performance for the camera and its features, and ensures high-image quality and high-speed image processing.

Versatile new Picture Control System Nikon’s new Picture Control System, featured in the D3, allows photographers to fine-tune and adjust fundamental rendering options for their pictures so they can define the exact tone, sharpening, brightness and saturation they prefer. They can then port these settings to any other Nikon camera featuring the Picture Control System, such as the recently introduced D300, so that even when shooting with different cameras, they can get consistent tones for all their pictures.

New 51-point auto focus system The D3 features Nikon’s Multi-CAM 3500FX auto focus sensor module, with 51 AF points, including 15 cross-type sensors that are located in the center of the frame. These cross-type sensors work with all Nikkor lenses, including those with apertures as small as f/5.6. The D3’s auto focus system is closely linked with the camera’s innovative Scene Recognition System to deliver greater accuracy in subject detection and focus tracking performance.

Revolutionary new Scene Recognition System Nikon’s D3 features a revolutionary new Scene Recognition System that greatly enhances the accuracy of auto exposure, auto white balance detection and auto focus in the camera. The Scene Recognition System uses the camera’s built-in, 1,005-pixel RGB metering sensor to recognize the subject or scene being photographed and detect any movement. This information helps optimize exposure and white balance settings for the recognized subject and also enables the camera to assign appropriate AF points based on any movement of the subject, ensuring highly precise auto focus tracking performance.

Super-density, 3-inch VGA, TFT LCD monitor with 920,000-dot resolution The D3 features a gorgeous, ultra high-definition 3-inch LCD monitor with 920,000-dot resolution. The monitor provides a 170-degree viewing angle and is very effective in confirming focus on pictures as well as framing a shot using the camera’s new LiveView modes.

LiveView shooting with two optimized modes Two new LiveView modes in the D3 enable photographers to compose their shot using the camera’s ultra-high resolution LCD monitor. The Tripod mode is designed for precise focus and accuracy when the camera is on a stable platform and the subject is not moving. In this mode, the camera focuses on the subject using focal-plane contrast and any point on the LCD screen can be selected as the focus point for the picture. The second mode, called Handheld mode, allows photographers to use the camera’s conventional TTL focusing system, with all 51 points and 15 cross-type points available. When using this mode, the camera activates focusing immediately when the shutter button is pressed, to ensure accurate focus.

Active D-Lighting Nikon’s D-Lighting feature in its digital SLR cameras has proved to be a popular way for photographers to quickly compensate for dark areas of a picture after it is taken, without adversely affecting its highlights. The D3 now features an Active D-Lighting mode that when enabled provides remarkable real-time highlight and shadow correction with optimized image contrast. Active D-Lighting produces broader tone reproduction in both shadows and highlights by controlling highlights and exposure compensation while applying localized tone control technology to achieve a more pleasing level of contrast across the entire image. And because the advantages of Active D-Lighting are applied as images are captured, image editing time can be shortened.

Dual CF slots offer memory flexibility

Improved usability Several aspects of the D3’s usability have been refined to offer professional photographers a satisfying experience when using the camera. The camera’s optical viewfinder offers a large, bright image with virtually 100 percent frame coverage and 0.7x magnification in FX-format. The D3 accepts two CF (Compact Flash) cards simultaneously for a myriad of recording options as well as the ability to copy images between the two cards.

Display images on your HDTV via the HDMI port

An integrated HDMI port offers the ability to view images from the camera directly on a high-definition television. The D3 also features the world’s first virtual horizon level indicator that uses sensors incorporated within the camera to indicate the inclination of the camera relative to the horizon, on the LCD monitor or inside the viewfinder.

Reliable and durable The D3 is designed to perform reliably and consistently under the most demanding conditions. The exterior of the D3 is crafted of magnesium alloy, and numerous seals are used throughout the body to protect the camera against dust and moisture. The camera’s shutter employs blades made of a hybrid of carbon fiber and Kevlar and is tested to 300,000 cycles. The camera also features a Self Diagnostic Shutter Monitor that ensures the accuracy and precision of the shutter at all times.

Fine-tune adjustment for auto focus Photographers who need to make small adjustments to correct differences in focusing can do so using the D3’s built-in capability to adjust focus specific to a lens. The camera offers the option of either setting compensation for a specific lens so adjustment in focus is only enabled when that particular lens is used, or the camera can apply a uniform level of compensation for any lens used with the camera. Users can store settings for up to 20 different lenses if they prefer to fine-tune the camera’s focusing based on specific lenses.

Designed for ergonomics, by Giugiaro The D3 is built around the central theme of ergonomics and the camera’s exterior form is designed by world renowned Italian design house, Giugiaro. Every aspect of the D3 is fine-tuned to be ergonomic and help photographers seamlessly work with the camera. Its slightly inclined command dial, comfortable hand-grip, and curves on the pentaprism top, grip and side panels are all part of a new design theme.

And he was driving all 3000 miles of it.

His reason being that since he was getting older, this would probably be the last time he would ever undertake a journey of this kind-so why not go on a road trip and have fun doing it?

The plan is to drive through several states and visit friends (mutual friends between us) along the way, and that he'd be passing through Chicago as one of his first stops.

I've been needing a vacation of sorts and realized that this would probably be the only time I could ever undertake a trip like this as well.   So I offered to hitch a ride with him from Chicago to Los Angeles when he passed on through.

Who better to take with you on a road trip through 8 states than a Photographer right?

I'll leave it up to you though to decide personally about the quality of images and if the high ISO capabilities are up to par.

Personally coming from twin D200 bodies, I have to say that the D3 at almost any ISO would wipe the floor with my old cameras. At almost all the ISO's I threw at this thing there was less noise/grain found in the image than what my D200 would show at ISO 1600.

Since this test was first done I've actually gone and ordered a second D3 body as I need a backup body for my first one. Being a dual body shooter, I keep a wide angle lens attached to one body and a zoom lens attached to another (17-35 and 85mm 1.4, the 70-200 comes out during ceremonies). I was considering getting a D700, but as I have a wedding coming up August 9th I was told by Adorama that there was a better chance that a cow would jump over the moon than I would have in getting a D700 body by that date.

D3 Pros:

Wide Angle and Ultra-High ISO!

D3 Cons:

1.  A sticker price so high you'd have to sell your family (j/k).  Sorta.

2.  Buyer's remorse.  Lots of it.

D300 Pros:

1.  Higher ISO Too!  Better than my old camera by what seems like a long shot.

2.  Cheaper.  By a lot.  You only have to sell some of your family to get one.

D300 Cons:

1.  High ISO isn't up to par:  It still can't compete with a 5d, and that camera is about to be replaced anytime soon.

2.  No Wide Angle.  When I bought my D200 a long time ago, I bought all Full Frame lenses (FF) with the hope that eventually Nikon would make a FF Camera.  It took 2 years but the Camera Gods smiled down and gave Nikonians like me the D3.

The two cons with the D300 were what tipped the scales in my decision making...and I gave in and bought a D3.

After much debate on whether to get the newly announced D700 as a new backup body or to just buy another D3 body, I decided to get a 2nd D3 as well.

Seeing that the D700 wouldn't be available to me at all until after August at the least, when I need 2 Nikon bodies for backup purposes and my shooting style.

And right now I couldn't be happier =D

Para complementar la info concerniente a Onechambara, les dire que de hecho allá en Japón tiene un videojuego para el Nintendo Wii. Si asi como lo leen con todo y la chica en poca ropa y su tematica agresiva. Mis impresiones del juego son muy malas si lo comparas con el juego de SUDA, "NO MORE HEROES", ya que comparten el gusto por los espadazos y la sangre. Pero el otro no tiene ese calidad que te permite manejar a tu personaje adecuadamente, ademas, que la caja de colisiones esta del nabo. En fin si alguien lo ve y lo juega que deje sus opiniones.

Por otro lado, alguien me mando un mail preguntando por la trama y calidad actoral de la pelicula. A lo cual solo les dire que si la ven, solo . . . disfrutenla, no pidan tramas complejas o giros inesperados. Es una pelicula donde el fan service y el gusto por el katanazo son lo unico importante. OK. Peace.

I stumbled across the ice encased splash page late Monday night and I instantly knew that something big was going to be announced at the upcoming World Wide Invitational the following Saturday. I didn't want to jump to conclusions but I really, really believed that 8 years later, Diablo III may finally continue the legacy of Diablo II. As I watched the ice melt more and more each day, with additional runes becoming visible in the background, I couldn't help but become increasingly excited. StarCraft II was old news, Wrath of the Lich King was old news, SC: Ghost was dead, no one liked Warcraft 3 enough to make a 4th, and Blizzard had just reset the D2X ladder and had purchased Diablo3.com.

When the ice finally melted and Diablo himself winked at me, I knew the heavens would tremble.

My dear christ did they tremble.

I write this, as a self professed Diablo lover. I love the Diablo franchise. There's something to be said for a game that can reel you in every 6 months to play like clockwork after 10 years on the shelves for $19.99. The point and click, hack and slash aspect of this RPG just gets me and I really enjoy playing it. There are bugs, there are hacks, and there are terrible patches which nerf nearly everything that was half decent, but at the end of the day, it keeps us all coming back.

I say this now, it will forever reign over World of Warcraft.

Now this entry is more of a "whats on the horizon" kind of post because let's face it, Diablo III won't be released until 2010 at the earliest (a sad fact, I know) and we don't really know too much about it. Here's what I gather:

- It looks amazing; stunning graphics (NOT cartoony like WoW, regardless of what others say)
- Has Havok physics
- Still point and click
- New USEFUL skill bar (quit whining)
- GUI looks familiar but different in many good ways
- Barbarian class returns
- Necromancer class likely replaced by confirmed Witch Doctor class (why have two dead/poison summoners?)
- More skills, monsters, loot, and dungeons
- Baddass sized bosses
- More gore for people like me who love to see blood splatter
- Large amounts of win in every sector

Now I know it's too soon to call, but I think Diablo III will be everything Diablo II LOD was and a hell of a lot more in many areas. The mini-map is gone, boo hoo. The characters aren't sprites, so they are "cartoony" in some odd way, wah. Your precious skills are for the most part, trashed; find some new ones.

One thing that I want to know though is if the game will be Pay to Play or not, and if the charge will be 5$/$10/$15 monthly. I would pay a premium $70 for the game if it wasn't P2P, or the most I would pay monthly, comfortably, would be $5. I just can't see a game being played on Battle.net being P2P because that kind of throws off the essence of Battle.net. God bless those spastic servers.

Ayer 1 de julio junto con el flash SB-900 y un par de lentes de control de perspectiva finalmente fue anunciada la primera DSLR semiprofesional full frame de Nikon... la D700.

Luego de varios días de especulaciones y fotografías de celulares mostrando folletos con la información de la D700 Nikon publicó el anuncio de esta nueva cámara que viene a competir directamente la Canon 5D... de la cual se esperaría igualmente una actualización este año.

Mucho se especuló sobre las características de esta cámara, de las cuales varias fueron acertadas, pero aqui estan las confirmadas por Nikon:

Samsung apparently wants to make sure it is not left behind in the race to manufacture AM-OLED displays, as it has set aside $529 million -- six times its current budget -- for producing the organic light-emitting diode screens. The active-matrix-OLED monitors are thinner, more energy-efficient and considered to be of better quality than today's LCDs, but Samsung, like all manufacturers, still faces challenges in cutting production costs and increasing screen sizes before it can roll out the technology across a broad enough range of products. New laptops that support 802.11n wireless networking have fueled sales of routers and other products for the emerging standard, according to Infonetics, a research firm that says manufacturers are reporting sudden gains in sales for 802.11n hardware. The good news for vendors is that 802.11n products are more expensive, so their revenues rose for the first quarter even though sales for other wireless LAN devices tailed off. The cinematic teaser is available to watch and if that doesn't feel you with both excitement and rage (rage that it doesn't come out tomorrow) I don't know what will. Blizzard refuses to give an official release date, but gaming gurus around the web are predicting Christmas 2009, but with how much attention Blizzard developers are giving to this game, it'll likely be 2010. Still, when we get updates, we'll give them to you.

D3 will be using Battle.net for multiplayer game interaction. I wasn't the hugest fan of the previous Battle.net for D2--dropped connections, slow connections, etc., but they've upgraded it and have it ready to roll for StarCraft II. I guess we'll see what improvements have been made. It was free before, so hopefully the use of it will be free again (and anyone who knows for certain, please leave a comment).

As for classes, there will be five to choose from--male and female version alike instead of fixed--with the two revealed classes being Barbarian and Witch Doctor (which according to what I've read is going to be very similar what Shaman is to WOW).

NOSTALGIC MOMENT: Although I love the World of Warcrack in all its addictive glory (been clean a year now *wink*), I do like to see a game every now and again with a story to it--and that's what the Diablo series has been for me. (I haven't yet ventured into Starcraft). I remember the first time I got to see Diablo in D1, and I'm excited to face him again in D3. The wacky maze world in D2, and Mephisto and Baal--all good memories. D3 will be like the high school reunion you actually want to go to. (^_^)

So when the developers finally decide on a release date, you can be sure that Visual Crack will get it and review it--though I'm doubting most of you will wait for the review before you buy.

And if you've never played the Diablo series before, they're probably cheap and could be a fun nostalgic trip, but if you've been impressed by Blizzard before, you won't be disappointed with the new game. When it comes out, get it.

Firma Nikon oficjalnie przedstawiła swoją najnowsza cyfrową lustrzankę, D700. Aparat wyposażono w pełnoklatkowy, 12,1-megapikselowy sensor obrazu, taki sam jak w modelu D3.

W porównaniu z D3, w D700 obniżeniu uległa szybkość wykonywania zdjęć seryjnych. Posiada za to kilka istotnych funkcji: 51-punktowy pomiar ostrości z funkcja Focus Tracking, umożliwiającą śledzenie poruszających się obiektów. Poprawiono także działanie funkcji D-Lightning, która poprawia kontrast i zapisuje taką kopię niezależnie od oryginału. Matryca posiada funkcję autoczyszczenia. D700 wyposażono w port HDMI oraz obsługę GPS. Rozpiętość czułości ISO to 100 – 25600. Tak naprawdę, to D700 można określić jako D3 w mniejszej i lżejszej obudowie.

Nikon D700 będzie dostępny pod koniec lipca tego roku za 2999$.

Plus, their (relatively) lower prices put full-frame shooting in the hands of deep-pocketed amateur photographers. Until now, that's a party at which Nikon never got to dance. But with Monday's announcement of the full-frame D700, Nikon's a wallflower no more.

The D700 looks to be a bit of a cross between the full-frame (FX format) D3 and the DX-format D300. It has the same 12.1-megapixel Expeed CMOS sensor as the D3, with its concomitantly wide ISO sensitivity range.

The D700 will also boast some of the durability characteristics of the D3, such as the magnesium alloy outside and dust and weather sealing. The 150,000-cycle shutter and dust prevention system come from the D300. Other features it inherits from both sides of the family include the 3-inch LCD, two live-view shooting modes, a 51-point AF system, and 3D Matrix metering technology.

A brief comparison:

Nikon also took the opportunity to tweak some technologies and the interface. For instance, there's new automatic Active D-Lighting, which adjusts exposure while shooting rather than post-shot. (Nikon does say you'll take a performance hit with it.) The D700 will also have a built-in flash. An improved information display on the LCD now shows custom settings.

Although there seems to be lots to like about the D700--I did get to play with one for a bit while Nikon briefed us on the camera--for those who want a second body to accompany a D3 things aren't quite as rosy. Nikon lets you share picture control settings between cameras via a CF card, but some of the more prosaic features aren't quite so transparent.

For instance, the D700's viewfinder only offers 95 percent scene coverage. By itself, that's a bit disappointing, but when you have to switch between bodies, having to make that mental adjustment constantly becomes a downright nuisance. Furthermore, the body design and control layout is pure D300, which means it's completely different from the D3.

Expect the D700 to hit the stores at the end of July.

Along with the D700, Nikon also announced a pair of perspective-control lenses and a replacement for the Speedlight SB800, the SB900.

PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED

For the uninitiated, perspective-control lenses, sometimes referred to as tilt/shift lenses, allow you to photograph objects like buildings, where your angle relative to the subject causes unwanted artifacts, such as the top of a building looking very small relative to the middle. PC lenses don't come cheap, though, as the prices of the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED and PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D lenses exemplify; they will be $1,799.95 and $1,739.95, respectively, when they ship in August.

The new Speedlight SB900, which will replace the SB800, offers a host of technology updates, including better coverage (17-200mm vs. 24-105mm for the SB800); automatic DX/FX format detection; three different light distribution patterns--center-weighted, even (corner-to-corner), and standard (like the SB800); a 360-degree rotating head; better performance on 4AA batteries (four-second recycle time with Alkaline batteries and 2.3 seconds with NiMH batteries); white-balance compensation for flash-mounted gels; user-updateable firmware; and an AF-assist beam that covers all 51 AF points compared to the 11 points covered by the SB800. Ergonomic changes include wireless controls on the body, not just in the menus, and a larger LCD.

On the downside, this thing is huge. So if the SB800 looks good enough for you and size matters, I suggest you run out and get one before it disappears from the market. The SB900 will also be a bit more expensive, at least initially; the street price of the SB800 is uless than $400 now, while the SB900 is slated to list for $499.95 when it ships in August.
