The above picture, a Martin 16 keel boat, designed specifically to be adaptable for sailors with disabilities. The Disabled Sailing Association of B.C., Victoria Branch (DSABC) has two of these. They also have a few other boats including the Access dinghy and an olympic class Sonar keel boat. During the summer more than 200 sails will take place in Esquimalt harbour. Just because I can, I decided to throw this shot up too.

I'm a really big fan of the Lomo look, and I know it's been done to death, but I tried my best to achieve that effect. I know there's an easier way in Photoshop CS3, but I did it through several steps which allowed more control. I think I need to work on softening my edges.

Again, I tried to achieve the Lomo look and I'm actually kinda thrilled with the results. I'll continue to play with it and see what comes of it.

The jeans are preemie sized but I sure can't figure out the waist in the silly things...it's huge!!!  By the time he grows into the waist, the length would resemble shorts. :D  The shoes looked kinda funny on his tiny feet but the jeans helped balance it out a bit.  If I remember right, the shoes are size 0 and are a little under an inch too long still.  Amazing how tiny their feet are!  I remember Autumn was in double 00s for a long time! (can't find double 00s in boy shoes it seems-or, atleast I haven't had any luck finding them!) But, once her feet starting growing, they grew very quickly!  My guess is that Mason will do the same. :) 

If you're lucky, you might catch a swift smile here & there.  The second picture down, I barely caught a half ('kinda') smile.  See it? Ya have to look close. :)  Several have asked how much he weighs now...I'm not sure exactly but if he's staying on track on his normal 5oz/week weight gain, he should weigh around 6.5-7lbs now.   I'll know his exact weight next week when he goes in for his 2 month check-up.  He's definitely feeling out slowly but surely!  Before we know it, he'll be sporting himself a set of rolls. :D

From a photography point of view it was the most exciting shots ive ever taken. I got in a lot of practice with so many contrasting colours, light conditions and so many amazing subjects to shoot. All of my photos are listed here, please feel free to take a look and let me know what you think either here or on flickr.

The sunset in Oia was amazing, i was one of many photographers trying to capture the moment and it was an amazing image to say the least. All in all the trip was great, enjoyed the beach, the sun, the pool, the sunsets, the cocktails and most of all the greek food!!!

...Didn't take very long and he was fast asleep!  He takes the BEST naps outside with the wind blowing in his face! :)

Autumn loves to play in her playhouse & swimming pool!

I was 'trying' to get a picture of Mason in my Hotslings Pouch after he woke up...I'm HORRIBLE at doing this unless I use my remote & tripod though. :D  I thought the picture was kinda funny though since I caught Autumn blurring past in the background.  She's always on the go!

These are the Boobies of San Onofre. Sun was setting, and I just snapped it.

The wife and I went to San Diego for an overnight trip to partake in some unadulterated drinking and we had a great time. I wanted to take more pictures, but the opportunity never presented itself. I snapped some on the way home, and I learned that my Wide Angle Sigma 10-20MM is quite dirty. I obvious learned that after the fact, as you can tell by the top picture of the Del Mar fair, which has been Photoshopped to death by the way.

Band of Horses sang to us all the way home.

Σε ένα πρόσφατο ταξίδι μου στην Ταϊπέι της Ταϊβάν, αγόρασα την Nikon D80 Digital SLR.

Δεν ξέρω και πολλά από ψηφιακή φωτογραφία, ωστόσο πάντα ήθελα μια Digital SLR, ήθελα να αλλάζω φακούς, την ήθελα για να μάθω.

Oι super zoom compact (που αποτελούν την εύκολη εναλλακτική) προσφέρουν τελευταία πολλά ρυθμιστικά, είναι φθηνότερη λύση (και αυτό από μόνο του αρκεί να τις προτιμήσει κάποιος στις εποχές που ζούμε) αλλά (για να πω και του στραβού το δίκιο) δείχνουν πολύ φλώρικες και consumer, είναι εύκολες, σχεδόν βαρετές.

Μόλις είδα την D80 λοιπόν σε ένα κατάστημα κοντά στο κέντρο της πόλης στα €635 με φακό "VR" (Vibration Reduction) 18-55mm υπέκυψα στον πειρασμό...

Η αγορά μου ωστόσο δεν ήταν "τυφλή", και δεν πρόκειται για "love on first sight"... πρώτα έκανα συγκρίσεις και ψάχτηκα...

Αρχικά πήγαινα για την νέοτερη Sony a350 (λίγο πιο φθηνή στην Ταϊβάν από την D80, με πιο σύγχρονα χαρακτηριστικά, με quick AF life view, 2,7" οθόνη, 2 με 2,5 fps, 14,2 megapixels, πολλά "extra" κ.α),

μετά λοξοκοίταξα την νέα Canon EOS 450D (στην Ταϊβάν και στις Η.Π.Α ονομάζεται Rebel XSi, πολύ πιο φθηνή της D80 εκεί, 3,0" οθόνη, 12,2 megapixels, lifeview, 3,5 fps κ.α) αλλά τελικά υπερίσχυσε η λογική...

Η γνώμη μου - δεν εκφέρω επαγγελματική άποψη, ούτε είμαι φωτογράφος, αλλά μια αίσθηση και μόνο - είναι ότι από την πρώτη, λείπει ο χαρακτήρας, δεν εκπέμπει πάθος, είναι ένα high tech κομμάτι hardware για tech lovers και gadget maniacs...

Η δεύτερη είχε αυτό το "κάτι" που ήθελα, αλλά μου έδωσε την αίσθηση ότι είναι πολύ "γυαλισμένη" και "εύθραυστη" (εξαιτίας των πολλών πλήκτρων, των πλαστικών που δεν μου άρεσαν και του μικρού της βάρους)...

...τελικά επικράτησε η λογική (η δική μου βεβαίως, γιατί πολλοί θα διαφωνήσουν με την επιλογή μου) και επέλεξα την "παλιά" (10,2 megapixels, χωρίς life view - μα τι να το κάνεις αυτό σε μια dslr - 3 fps, 2,5" οθόνη κ.α) αλλά με τον "πολύ" χαρακτήρα...

γούστα είναι αυτά...

(Δοκίμασα και την Nikon D60, και οφείλω να παραδεχτώ πως είναι περισσότερο για τα κυβικά και τα... μυαλά μου, από τη στιγμή που ακόμα ανακαλύπτω την ψηφιακή φωτογραφία. Πρόκειται για μια καταπληκτική "μικρή", με καταπληκτικά μενού και software και ευκολίες που αξίζει να την δείτε σε ένα κατάστημα και να την περιεργαστείτε. Βέβαια έχει και πολλά μειονεκτήματα, αλλά αυτά αποκλείεται να ενδιαφέρουν ένα "πρωτάρη").

How To Reduce Camera Shake

So far ive been travelling with my girlfriend and most places that ive been to, (seen here) have been exciting both from a personal & photography point of view. Im really looking forward to Greece though as the place we are staying and basically all the islands really lend themselves to sweeping landscapes, sunsets & great emotive shots, my aim is to capture some of this.

I will post back here next friday when i return and see if what i saw & experienced was caught on camera. I really wish i had a wide angle lens at this stage, but i just got delivery of my Nikon 50mm 1.8 prime lens so that should be another fun tool for some portraits shots.

 p.s I also came 9th out of 170 people in a photography comp. I thought this was a good result for my second comp ever. The category was patterns in nature and my entry can be seen here

The party was literally on a rooftop and it was a very fun setting especially being able to see the fireworks so well! The invite said:

Come and enjoy the Red Bank Fireworks on Lorene's tropical rooftop. Rock to the music by the Jonzes. Create a moment of stardom at Guitar Hero or bowl a few frames in the Wii room. Feast on the fabulous Pig Roast with all the fixins. Bring your favorite bottle for the Ice Luge. Sangria and Beer will be served. We hope to see you there.

The hostesses are friend with my friend Tiffany. Tiffany promised that I'd bring my camera along so I did - even though I didn't know anyone there. I decided that it didn't matter if I knew anyone or not and took a lot of photos (I figured the hostesses would appreciate having their party documented..even if I was scare of the people with the water guns squirting my beloved camera).

We got there just in time to see the fireworks. The only fireworks photo captured was a lousy one from my camera phone LOL!

It wouldn't be me if I didn't find a way to at least get into a few photos...(even if that means handing my camera off to someone else...which most of the time means that they don't realize they have to look through the viewfinder to take the photo :))

And one last one Tiffany took of yours truly. I'm sure she just wanted to show off her skills on my hair coloring, highlights, and haircut that she gave mes yesterday afternoon! LOL :D
