When I casually mention things like listening to the new Local H album, I get a lot of puzzled responses.

"Who?"

"They're back together?"

"They havn't done anything in forever!!!"

"Who!?!?!"

Sure, a two piece grunge act that rode into the spotlight on a pop-song after Cobain had already put a bullet through grunge's life-line holds little chance of being remembereed. However, listening through their new album, 12 Angry Months, I wonder: could Nirvana have put a better album together today?

12 Angry Months is a break-up album. Not a surprise when the first single is called '24 Hour Break-up Session.' When I first read that online I thought it might reference the band itself; however, when pursh comes to showve, rock & roll proves to always be about just one thing: the chicks. The first track, "The One with 'kid'," a reference to the Pretenders self-titled album, is about the division of lives following a falling out. The slow intro and bulid up remidnds me of the Foo Fighters "Pretender," the first track on their latest album. True to form, I can imagine Grohl putting on 12 Angry Months and rocking out in full force.

The rest of the album follows the other emotions of a break-up, thorugh omstly of the "<i>do</i> let the door hit you on the way out" variety, and the first song makes that point fairly obvious:

Winning Is All That Matters ...

I Won't Let You Gut Out Happy Home ...

No Matter What It's Costing, Make Sure You Leave With Nothing ...

Won't Let You Leave Here Blameless ...

You Leave Here Empty Handed ....

It's a fun ride. They're touring now, too. I've seen Local H on tour before, playing at the Cotton Club in Atlanta, probably in '02 or '03 in support of their Here Come The Zoo or PJ Soles LP. They always tend to put on a great show, with more energey for the buck then most bands can muster these days. $20 for a great show is a steal - especially when most albums are enjoyed for free.

It's true that many people wrote Local H off after their secnd commercial LP, Pack Up The Cats, Appeared to be a slower, mellowing of their sound - exagerated by it's first single, which tried to catch people with the pop side of the act rather than their full-force sounds. Since that album, though, it has appeareed that the band has been trying to shake the "aging" labelby focusing on their hard-rocking songs. It's what gets the crowd moving during ths how, which is really what garners a solid fan base: not Top-40 hits.

If you enjoy the album, take a listen to some of their older albums. For a greates hits of sorts, check otu their phenomenal live labum, ALIVE '05 - which includes their cover of Britney Spears' song "Toxic."
