I LOVE Yoochun's picture! His bright and sunshiny smile is just hard to resist! Hahaha. But don't get me wrong. I'm still loyal to my Jae. =)

Anyway, why do the other four look kinda serious (as compared to Yoochun)? They're endorsing a product so should't they be at least smiling a little bit or make it seem like they are actually happy to be endorsing it? But I guess I sort of understand them. I won't be too happy myself if I were to hold a pair of shoes with my bare hands and hold it near my face. That's uh... a bit gross, don't you think? LOL.

Dr. Martens Originals' Autumn 2008 range is out!! and I am in LOVE with these all-white pair!!! *sarah swoons and sighs like you can't imagine!!* (thus the insertion of many many exclamation marks :D (!!)

But at approximately $200 a pair, i hesitate to shell out the moo-lah for a pair of shoes that'll dirty quicker than you can blink!

But, then again, it would be fun to try out looks from Limi Feu's SS09 Collection

Shoes don’t have to be complicated to be stylish, as evidenced by this go-anywhere sandal. Perfect for hiking in an Alpine meadow or pounding the pavement, the classic Dr. Martens sole and cushioned insole will support you, while the leather trim surrounding the insole and charming cutouts on the vamp will secure your style status.

From the Manufacturer
Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history

I have to admit that I've never quite understood the allure of Cory Kennedy, but I also have to admit that the "IT" kid is surpassing all expectations. Fresh from her job as the face of Sebastian, it seems that Cory has now been tapped to be the new face of Doc Martens. She replaces Daisy Lowe, who had the honors last season.

A friend told me about these diet pills she has been trying and has lost some weight with them-
So I tried some yesterday and thought my brain was malfunctioning for a bit.
Now it just feels like mania in a pill form- but perhaps it is the caffeine? (I don't drink caffeine)
Anyway, it feels pointless because I dont even own a scale so how will I even notice if the pills are working?
My gym has a scale but I refuse to weigh myself in a public place.
My appetite has significantly decreased already- and I am taking only half the dosage (supposed to be 1 pill twice a day).
It makes me drink even more water than usual but no jitters- just mind bouncing.

Trying to value who I can count on- slowly trying to rebuild things and get back to exerting effort.
I have taken things for granted (everyone does at some point) but its important for me to acknowledge it and actually work to correct it.

I dont know if I ever mentioned this in the old journal but my 1 year anniversary with Bastian came and went earlier this month.
It barely even registered- in fact we both forgot about it when the day came around. Its weird because I guess it just doesnt even matter how long we have been together. We're not counting days to validate our efforts or place/attribute value to our relationship based on how far we've come. Its very strange to be in a relationship in which that concept of time doesn't even matter. My future is now.

Bastian keeps making fun of me because I am planning on buying some doc martens combat boots.
Am I really that crazy for wanting them? Or is he out of touch?
I am pretty sure combat boots are coming back but even if they aren't I still want them.
Wait.... why in the heck he is so perplexed that his formerly punk rock girlfriend wants a pair of combat boots?
I think he just likes making fun of me for stupid reasons.

I usually wouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes in Timberland at all because the clothes don

I usually wouldn't spend more than 5 minutes in Timberland at all because the clothes don't really suit my lifestyle, and neither does the price.

But while making some unusual rounds about the shopping mall with my boyfriend shopping for him (!), I was hooked onto Timberland's customized boots service called "Build Your Own"!

There was this entire chest of leather uppers, laces, embriodery samples and even eyelets for you to choose from, and a 2D template for you to fix your picks!

You cannot imagine. I felt like a little kid in Toys'R'Us. BUT, it costs SGD399 and 4 weeks to get it because it is put together in US.

So my fingers brought me to Timberland.com where I tried out "Build Your Own" online, and I have a few simple variations on their classic Waterville.

Yes I like plain and boring colours like that :P

I think it's a cool alternative to Dr Marten's and maybe... lighter and more comfortable?

What's with me and succumbing to comfort shoes, while serious (and rich?) fashionistas at LFW now are roughing it out in what I now deem odd footwear of unthinkable height and walkability.

See Fashion Nation's post about Something to be Smug About and this hilarious video!

I digress.

The short ones are USD155, while the tall ones are USD180, which is NO WHERE near the SGD399 that people would fork out if they ordered from the stores in Singapore. I'm expecting shipping to be between SGD50-60, and even with that, it is a whole hundred dollars cheaper ordering it from the US site!

I'm <this close> to ordering one. Especially since I tried a regular pair in the store and now know my size.

Now, if only they have kookier prints and colours.

I always thought that groups perform best when on stage and that a live performance has to entail so

I always thought that groups perform best when on stage and that a live performance has to entail someting more than a plain reproduction of the recorded material. That live performances are the essence of the band, as if there is a real core, a psyche that can only be dragged into light at the here and now. This idea just does not pay attention to the second word of 'live performances', that is 'performances'. Surely there are groups that really let go while playing music on stage but is it not really really difficult to stay focused when there is a wailing mob jumping on and off? And is it not really too much to listen to professional mucisians repeat, day-after-day, the same routine and playlist with some expectations of spontaneity?

Here comes the anticipated personal touch of the post, and obviously from the far past. Sometime along with the records, I discovered the feast of live performances. At this point in 1990 a nicely polished pair dr martens were an essential feature for a revolting non-mainstream teenager, at least at this part of the hemisphere that I am talking of. And that was more or less it for me, oh and the jeans, which had to make a perfect bottom. My introduction had to be a Jesus and Mary Chain live but for certain reasons (I really do not want to make this a teenage memoirs post) it eventually was an Iggy Pop performance. As I imlplied a few lines above, there is a certain ritualistic preparation to lives, especially when they have yet not been entirely demystified. This included minimal food intake during the day (because you were too anxious), making sure you have a (preferably unopened) packet of cigarettes, being immaculately clean and having the ticket well before the day. Most importantly, having spent at least a week listening to all the albums from the group or the artist and fantasizing about the live. From this Iggy Pop performance I more remember the destroyed sound boxes, his characteristic quick hanging from one place of the scene to the other, and the immense fear that I would be in the middle of a confrontation between skinheads and rockabillies and that I would end up going home barefoot. This was one of the urban legends that circulated, even outside a live scene's premises, if you had a perfecto jacket and dr martens on, then older skinheads could mistake you for a rockabilly and teach you a lesson. Another thing I remember is the important but unresolved debate about whether 'the passenger' sounds nicer from iggy pop or siouxie. The undisputed status of the artist, who is always bigger than mortals and can freely break objects and be considered a genious because of that. Other things I discovered in this live was how the magical atmosphere of that particular place (Athens, Rodon: Live) can make you fall in love with the boy for the rest of the school year and with live performances ever after.

i spent almost all of my teenage years in the 1990's (minus the two years spent in the ancient 80's). this means that i remember the collapse of the soviet union, the rodney king verdict, the assassination of yitzhak rabin and (most importantly) when i discovered dr marten shoes.

in high school i netted about $65/week at the local record store. instead of spending it on gas for my shitty car or save it for college, i spent the money on a $115 pair of classic 8 hole lace-up boots. to make up for this cost, second-hand stores were like goldmines for me. dresses from the 60's and gnarly fuzzy cardigans that smelled like moth balls had been my uniform for three years - even during the sweltering summers. i'd rather my feet roast under the black leather uppers than wear sensible shoes.

the story ends with the same old pair of boots being thrown away just weeks after i started going to RISD. so it's safe to say it's been about 13 years since i've worn them. I have moved on. it was a relationship that ended on good terms. but lately i've been seeing the same pair of boots walking the streets! i don't know how i feel about this, i thought we were through with each other. we had an agreement!

she's cute, right? she's wearing the modern uniform - skinny jeans, striped shirt and an over-sized cardigan. instead of the predictable pointy shoes or chuck taylors, she's wearing a pair of dr martens.

the 2008 version of me thinks: no way, revisiting a trend means i'm too old for it and I'M NOT OLD DAMMIT. and as a mother to an 8 yearl old, would i look out of touch instead of fashion savvy?

the nostalgic 90's survivor in me thinks: aw. those look great.

due to my inability to form a healthy opinion on this, i decided to run a quick poll among my male friends by showing them this photo and ask what their thoughts were. here are the results:

"yeah. they're cool" - a new yorker

"nah. never a fan unless its the dead of winter. but then they're not warm enough."- a chicagoan

"only for teenagers in a cool way. not hot though" - a new yorker

"pretty sure 14 hole doc martens on a girl were the first thing that ever gave me a boner. grunge era seattle, remember?" - born & bred seattlite

"I love Docs on girls, so maybe I'm biased. I can't say I'm into girls who wrap blankets around their heads, though." - a new yorker

thanks guys.

what do you think?

Dr. Martens is a company known for its top notch quality that never ceases to produce a shoe worthy of its $100+ price tag. Known for its durability and comfort, this footwear is generally attributed with the grunge look of the '90s, particularly the black leather work boot. That grunge stereotype belongs in the past, though, because Dr. Martens has recently come out with some very feminine looks ranging from girlie mary janes to stylish knee boots. The one I recently purchased and absolutely adore is the Jenna High Leg Boot. It is mod meets biker and the low 2" heel means these boots are definitely made for walking. How many times have you bought the cutest boots only to find that your feet are killing you after walking for 10 minutes in them? This won't happen in the Jennas. They feature the Dr. Martens AirWair bouncing sole that will keep your feet feeling as fabulous as they look.

The Jenna High Leg Boots have nifty little details like a zipper on the outside of the boot rather than on the inside, a tassel on the zipper, two snaps over the zipper, leather stitchwork on the top above the arch and at the top of the zipper, and high gloss full-graine palatino leather. For $150, that is a lot of bang for your buck.

You can find them for less than $150, but only if you wear a ridiculously small size or you want them in deep red. I chose black because they go with everything-- and I mean everything. They look as smart with a business casual work ensemble as they do with a psychadelic, vintage '70s dress or worn over a pair of leggings and a large, belted shirt. Do be warned, however: they run a bit snug in the ankle and calf, so these boots are better suited for girls with slender legs.

They are apparently very good sellers in the UK, and it is rather difficult to find the Jenna in the US. Therefore, I recommend going directly to the source, www.dmusastore.com. They come in red, brown, black and dark blue. Check out the other styles of shoes, too. You may be surprised.
