Lo interesante de esta "Ardilla dramática" es que un episodio aparentemente banal se tranforma en un momento cómico memorable cuando se introducen elementos como la música incidental. Aprovechamos la ocasión para aplaudir a quien haya tenido la intuición de hacerlo.

En su libro, Exercices de style - Ejercicios de estilo, Raymond Quenau (Le Havre 1903 - París 1976), escritor y poeta francés, sorprendía con noventa y nueve variaciones de un texto aburrido. Probando distintas figuras retóricas, jugando con sostituciones en el léxico y destruyendo la sintaxis, Quenau logra un efecto cómico que captura. Y esto es, proyectado al presente hipertecnológico, lo que sucede con Dramatic Ardilla, donde un contenido no sólo es transformado una, sino muchas veces, partiendo por un punto de ruptura que inspira una reacción en cadena. Desde entonces hemos visto al fenómeno transformarse en Psicosis, James Bond, The Ring etc etc

What is clear is... well... nothing is clear when it comes to fair use. It's a real mess and some intrepid professor's at American University want to help clear it up and so, they did what profs do: they published a paper. The folks over at the Chronicle read the paper and decided to do an interview of the authors, which they turned into a video, which contains copyrighted material, which is fair use.

See, how simple that is?

So, what's dramatic chipmunk and why do I care? Well, let me tell you. It was this funny internet meme that made all the rounds a few months ago (you can see it at about 2:00 into the film in the link above) it was so popular and so funny that I even made one (without the music).

It turns out that that chipmunk and the music are both copyrighted. So, should YouTube pull the video? Should I be allowed to make a mashup and post it here? Is my new item my copyrighted material?

I feel pretty safe with what I've done because it's totally new, intended for a different audience, and well, I'm publishing it here as an example for other people to learn from. It's still unclear if YouTube is going to pull those types of videos I guess we'll have to wait and see.

As for you, you copyright infringing web 2.0 user, you'll have to read the guidelines that the profs published to see if your mashups are legal or not.

Aparentemente por pura coincidência, bem na hora que a camera dá um close no bicho, ele se vira olhando com uma expressão de espanto.

Alguém com muita criatividade acrescentou um tom dramático na cena, e desde então o vídeo virou um meme pela Internet toda.

As pessoas usam normalmente em respostas para representar espanto ou falso espanto... como se tivesse respondendo algo do tipo "NÃO BRINCA!".

It all began with a japanese variety show where this prairie dog was brought to be shown to the audience and some guests.

Apparently, pure coincidence, right when the camera closes on the little guy, he turns around with this surprised expression in it's face.

Someone with lots of creativity added a dramatic tone to the scene, and since then, the video became a meme used through all the Internet.

People normally use it in replies to show surprize, false surprize or horror... like they were saying something like "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?".

Update: Further investigation brought up what looks like the transcript of an interview Weezer lead Rivers Cuomo gave on January 23 on the radio show SCHOOL OF LOCK!, in which Cuomo says he was introduced to J-pop through Mini Moni's first single, "Mini Moni. Jankenpyon!". (If this is not actually what he said, please let me know.)

Coincidentally, I actually saw Cuomo in person a few times in Spring 2006, when I cross-registered for a class at Harvard that met right before a class he was taking, in the same room (this was when he was re-attending Harvard to finish his degree). I should have gotten that autograph when I had the chance... >.<

A ver si me paso antes por el H&M de Orense antes de que se agote la colección Fashion Against Aids, que la musculosa de Rufus Wainwright a 9.95 € tiene muy buena pinta, así como las sudaderas de Tiga y no va y no va. Es que desde que me pillé en rebajas un abrigo mazo chulo buen género y bien cosido por 19.95 €, he vuelto a creer en H&M...

Después de la siesta haré mi Kriya, que serán 40 días seguidos; los estoy haciendo antes de desayunar pero con estos horarios dentales, hay que buscar otro hueco (jaja... ya contaré de qué va el asunto), y luego al gym. Esta noche me gustaría ver una de las cienes de pelis que tengo pendientes, pero ya veré.

Mañana pelu por la mañana (en esta nueva vida se hacen cosas los sábados por la mañana, te lo puedes creer), luego cita con Frenando. Creo que viene a pasar el finde en casa Micky, si se recupera de su ataque de asma. Haré unas compras, siesta, gym... ya veremos. Y por la noche, ¡LKan! Qué bien, qué fan soy. Lo malo es la sala Sol, pero bueno, a caballo invitado... Con Equis y Depard, y si doy una vuelta será corta.

En fin, no adelanto más acontecimientos. Son las 13 horas, y con tanto retrasarme los proyectos que tengo sobre la mesa, hoy ya he acabado mi faena. Acabo de pedir un persianero para arreglar la persiana (obvio) del salón de mi casa. Me he puesto al día con los mails. He comentado en algunos blogs amigos. He repasado mis estadísticas, y qué risa, para mi esto de que me diga wordpress las palabras que busca la gente que acaba en mi blog, me da mucha risa, en 20six no lo tenía. Por ejemplo, he descubierto que Andy Chango (con y sin Emma Suárez adjuntada), es una búsqueda muy popular. Frases muy graciosas e incomprensibles que aparecen:
