The 14th anniversary of nocturnal wonderland is just a few weeks away. I am not sure if you will believe this or not, but Paul van Dyke actually isn't headlining! That makes me so excited you have no idea. I am so sick of that guy, and the other major trance acts, hogging America's dance music spot light. Seriously, what if there was a massive with headliners a long the lines of Booka Shade or Gui Boratto. I think that would be pretty cool. Of course the headliner on what I presume will be the main stage is Above & Beyond. Lame considering last year they had The Chemical Brothers who have some of the best visuals since Pink Floyd's lazer shows in the 70's. But, surprisingly another stage has Richie Hawtin headlining. However, I am not sure if that is the case or not because the set times have yet to be released and it seems like Dubfire, also playing in the same room, would be the most likely headliner for this type of crowd. Other notable acts performing are Dubfire's sidekick Sharam, Digitalism (Live), So Me, Le Castle Vania, Claude Vonstroke, Infected Mushroom (Live), Christopher Lawrence and Planet of the Drums (aka one of the few DnB groups I know). Peace & Beats

It's very rare a song gives me chills when I listen to it, but this one feels like a thousand scarabs a climbing up my spine into my brain and making love to my mind. It's amazing it's by Oliver Huntemann and Dubfire(Ali Shirazinia of DeepDish.) This song is amazing, I want to play it in front of a crowd of hundreds just bringing life back to the undead.

Why the fuck are backpacks so expensive, it makes no sense, and when I finally find one that's cool and fits my laptop and all the books, it's fucking 90 bills, fuck that I'd rather buy some headphones, but that's beyond the point. Now back to the topic at hand, I've been looking all day for these two Zabiela tracks that just seem to not exist, and I came across this amazing song by Deadmau5, and no, it's not the reward is cheese. If you haven't heard of Deadmau5 you're seriously living under a fucking rock.

In less than a year, the Canadian based whiz kid has gone from near obscurity to receiving the name of Producer Of The Year; beating various acts to the top spot, while becoming the number one selling artist on Beatport and the most in demand producer on the face of the planet. A glance at the names that support his sound can justify this. Sasha, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Tiesto, Carl Cox, Dubfire, Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Sander Kleinenberg, Erick Morillo, Laurent Garnier – the list goes on and on. This song literally destroys you, it has you going up down and all the way around, I can't wait til the next party to drop this sucker.

It may be quite precipitate to already set up the first forecasts for 2008, but one thing is certain

It may be quite precipitate to already set up the first forecasts for 2008, but one thing is certain: the Swedish producer duo Minilogue's debut album "Animals" on Cocoon Rec. is going to be one of the most influential releases of electronic dance music. The synergy between the intimacy of sound and the variety of movement in cinemascope is extravagating the existing boundaries of Techno and Experimental, a sensual hearing in a repealed sense of time, as the German newspaper DIE ZEIT described it. So, many things speak for the fact that, for the development of reduced Techno, "Animals" is going to be as important as Robert Hood's "Internal Empire" almost 15 years ago.

Insofar, it's only more than consequent that, with Dubfire and The Mole, two of the momentarily most popular visionaries of electronic dance music could have been resurrected for the remixes of the Jamaica EP. The Mole aka Colin de la Plante, the 33-year-old Wagon Repair protagonist from Montreal is taking away this selectivity of sounds that "Hispaniola" contains with a Dub framework of extraordinary warmth. This track could not be re-shaped in a more hypnotic way. Ali Shirazinia aka Dubfire, born and raised in Washington and one half of House duo Deep Dish, has already been awarded with a Grammy, but since his club hits "I feel speed", "Roadkill" and "Ribcage", he also belongs to the leading solo producers and remixers these days. His 13-minutes-long interpretation of "Jamaica" adds this typical Dubfire mood of nightly paranoia to the original. However, after a Fabian beginning, the pumping bass drum sends clear signals to the dancefloor, and the repeated valve discharge sounds make the club also very present in your domestic living room. VINYL

As a dance music fan, there are few legendary parties that I have always wished I could go to. The one that sticks out the most is Creamfields.

Going on its 10th anniversary this year, Creamfields continues to live up to its reputation as the world’s premiere dance music festival. Although it may not be the biggest festival out there, Creamfields undoubtedly provides the best bang for your money.

You can probably already guess that this year’s line-up boasts top-flight talent and legendary artists. The only problem with having this many great artists is that it is nearly impossible to decide which arena to go to and which artists you want to see.

Here are some artist highlights:

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Fat Boy Slim, Erick Morillo, Paul Van Dyk, Dubfire, Harry "Choo Choo" Romero, Sasha, Tom Novy, Eric Prydz, Felix Da HouseCat, and Pete Tong.

Sunday August 24, 2008

Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corstein, Underworld, Gorillaz Soundsystem, John Digweed, Deadmau5, Dave Clarke, Green Velvet, Axwell, Dirty South, and David Guetta.

Considering Underworld doesn’t play that much anymore and this is Tiesto’s only UK date, this is definitely a party you can’t afford to miss. Sometimes I wish I could just conjure up a magical jet and travel around the world going to dance parties, but for some reason I always wake up when I’m about to land. Oh well….someday.

It was a wet winter day by the water, as thousands filled shed 4 at the Docklands, in Melboourne.

It was a wet winter day by the water, as thousands filled shed 4 at the Docklands, in Melboourne. Following the theory that any good party is hard to find, people slowly found their way there by chasing the heavy bass vibrations, being felt from far away. The shed was isolated enough in order to not effect the neighbourhood. However, It was close enough to the city which framed the landscape with the urban skyline.

Gaiser [M_nus the experience]

The festival had three stages, divided according to the musical genre and performance style. The main stage "we love live" held all the bands, the middle one called "hardware" was the place for most of the live acts, and the last one "one love", had mostly dj sets. The space's layout was interesting, nonetheless its acoustics were not appropriate to hold three dancefloors. The middle one, which had most of the minimalist performances, was overpowered by the the heavy beats reverberating from the stages on either side. Therefore, effecting artists' performances such as Ellen Alien, Modeselektor, Marc Houle, and Gaiser.

Derrick Carter

Despite the acoustic problem, several artists who played at the peripheral stages incredibly engaged the selective crowd with the quality of their sets. In my opinion, some of the highlights were Chicago's house music godfather's Derrick Carter; M_nus the Experience's Gaiser with his minimalist live act; Deep Dish's Dubfire surprisingly going deep into the underground, and Cassius grown-up french-disco set.

Dubfire [Deep Dish]

Amongst the bands, The Whip, The Bravery, and Chk Chk Chk were the ones who attracted the biggest crowds, nevertheless in my humble opinion, the festival's sound system or the space's acoustics weren't good enough to hold those performances. A reflection of that could be seen at the Brazilian indie-funk playback based, Bonde do Rolê. Four microphones weren't enough even for a portuguese speaker to understand what they were saying, therefore you can imagine most of the Australian's expressions watching their show. Anyhow, regardless of technical issues, language and cultural barriers, the four piece band got most of the crowd going during their 45 minute presentation.

Bonde do Rolê

After listening to great quality music from several countries around the world, the one who blew my mind was, once again, from France. The country who gave us Daft Punk and Justice, brought us the experienced Ed Banger's Mr Oizo. His disturbed yet accurate performance kept everyone off the floor with their hands in the air. Mr Oizo walked onto the stage with a stack of case-less CDs (like those you will find at a reckless junkie's house), his headphones around the neck, and a cigarette in his mouth. As he sets up his decks, the crowd goes crazy, resulting in one of the best dj-public interactions I've seen before. Looking at him, all I could see was a mad musical scientist, experimenting his notes and combinations on the responsive crowd. He was an evil puppeteer controlling his freak show, which was so amazing that he nearly had to be dragged out of the stage; in order to give place to the next performer. With no more english words to describe, all I can say is Merci beaucoup, Monsieur!

Melbourne, the city of festivals, is hosting another party to make cities like Ibiza, Barcelona, or Berlin feel jealous about it. Due to the consistency of events in the underground music scene, Melbourne is often seen as one of the best party spots in the world. No matter what tribe or scene you belong to, you'll find the right festival, tailor-made especially for you.

During this long-weekend, we'll be celebrating the Queen's Birthday with some of the most fresh electro, techno, house, and a lot of dirty funk. In the line-up, names like !!! (Chk Chk Chk), The Bravery, Cassius, Dubfire (Deep Dish), Bonde fo Rolê, Mr Oizo (Ed Banger), Ellen Allien (B-Pitch Control), M_Nus Experience, and Modeselektor, amongst many other will make you shake it like you mean it.

With its performers coming from several countries around the world, in addition to national talents, the event which will take place in one of the sheds of the docklands, promises an unforgettable experience for those with sassy feet and/or refined ears. 'We love sounds' took place in Perth last weekend, and moves on this Saturday to Brisbane and Melbourne simultaneously; travelling to Sydney on Sunday, and Adelaide on Monday. This world-class event proves, one more time, that despite geographic barriers, Australia keeps tuned to global trends, offering its residents the latest edgy performers from the four corners of the globe.

Boeoes Kaelstigen is my new favorite minimal artist. When I first listened to "Once I Was Like You (Boeoes Kaelstigen's Erwise Remix)" and "Strömavbrott (Boeoes Kaelstigen's Etsi Remix)", his new remixes, they reminded me a lot like Dubfire's work, only better. Boeoes' remixes emit a moving energy, a constant progression that keeps you thinking, they feel like something you would hear on the Global Gathering Cocoon Stage.

I think for next year Adrian Recordings should hook that up, in the mean time peep the tracks I was raving about before.

The festival takes place Memorial Day weekend from Saturday, May 24th through Monday, May 26th in Detroit, Michigan.
The festival that started as DEMF (The Detroit Electronic Music Festival) has been in existence since the year 2000,
initially started by Pop Culture Media along with artistic director Carl Craig.
It has passed through the hands of various management, including Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and its current 3-year managing organization, Paxahau.
The festival holds a special place for fans of the roots of electronic music, as Detroit is credited as the birthplace of techno,
and it is a bit of a return to Mecca for many of the genre’s fans.
Many noted up and coming performers have taken part in the event, as well as several mainstays that have helped to shape the sound in general,
such as Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann), Scion (with a special secret appearance by Basic Channel), Inner City, Luomo, Underground Resistance, Derrick May and many more.
This year’s festivities include appearances by original DEMF co-founder Carl Craig, Egyptian Lover, Speedy J, Dubfire, Benny Benassi, Moby, James Zabiela, Deadmau5 , Josh Wink , Marco Carola, Mark Farina, and others.

For Full Info, Details, Lineup, Tickets and more visit myspace.com/detroitmusicfest
