<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Secondo S.Gauthronet e E.Drouard, che nel 2001 realizzavano uno <a href="http://www.privacy.it/aretespamm2001.html">studio </a>per la comunità europea sullo spamming, questa pratica commerciale usata in tutto il mondo sarebbe un fenomeno destinato a sparire in quanto “malattia infantile dell' e-mail marketing”.<br />
A distanza di 7 anni dallo studio a me sembra che tale pratica discutibile sia lontana dal concludersi.<br />
Ma cos'è lo spamming ?  Dove finisce e dove inizia l'e mail marketing?<!--more--><br />
Io credo che oggi come oggi la più alta espressione di e-mail marketing siano i messaggi CRM (Customer relationship management), ovvero quei messaggi estremamente targhettizzati e personalizzati inviati ad utenti che siano davvero interessati a riceverli. In questo campo credo anche che “Amazon docet”: la grande compagnia di e-business, è infatti leader mondiale in questa pratica, per la cura e la precisione dei messaggi inviati che aiutano effettivamente e concretamente il cliente nella scelta d'acquisto. A mio avviso la differenza è sottile ma fondamentale; ad esempio inviare messaggi ad una mailing list scovata chissà dove o acquistata chissà da chi,  per lanciare un messaggio che suona pressappoco così &#60;&#60;la nostra compagnia, i nostri prodotti, i nostri servizi sono i migliori sul mercato&#62;&#62;, non ha molto senso perche è un semplice messaggio propagandistico commerciale che infastidisce il ricevente della mail, invaso nella propria privacy. Ben diverso è invece fare come Amazon, che usa l'email marketing come uno strumento per coccolare e prendersi cura dei clienti già acquisiti; il  succo dei messaggi di Amazon, è all'incirca questo:  &#60;&#60;Visto che sei nostro già nostro cliente e hai acquistato questo libro, ti segnalo che molti altri nostri clienti che hanno acquistato il tuo stesso titolo hanno poi acquistato anche i seguenti....... Facendo seguire i titoli tematicamente affini a quello che noi abbiamo già acquistato&#62;&#62;. Io credo fermamente che questo tipo di strategia sia la vera forma che deve assumere l'e mail marketing per essere efficace e per non essere bollato come spam. Infatti un  messaggio tematicamente così mirato e contestualizzato, non cattura solamente l'attenzione del ricevente, ma anche la sua fiducia e la sua fedeltà, per un azienda che sa dialogare meglio delle altre e  per la professionalità e l'alto livello di costumer care che tali messaggi esprimono. Quindi se decidete di fondare la vostra strategia di comunicazione l'e-mail marketing, non sprecate il vostro tempo e la vostra reputazione su semplicistici infruttuosi e “spammosi” messaggi pubblicitari, ma prendete esempio da quelle aziende che hanno fatto dell'uso sapiente di questa pratica un caposaldo del proprio successo.</p>

Like everyone out there, I am worried about the current economic crisis our world has bumped into. Back home, people who do not understand that 'A' of Advertising tell me that "you are doomed, recession is here and advertising is going to be the worst hit sector." Even though I want to believe that, my optimistic nature replies back with a smile. Not that I am not current of huge budget cuts and stuff that corporate sector has to undertake in order to sustain in this crisis. But I am sure this is a temporary scenario &#38; we will bounce back... with a bang!</p>
<p>As a graduate student about to enter the world of Advertising, I am bound to be affected to see news like this...</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ontem, dia 07 de outubro de 2008, em São Paulo, um grupo formado por profissionais de diversas especificidades da comunicação digital, se reuniu para consolidar as diretrizes do CGI – Comitê Gestor da Internet.</p>
<p>Este comitê visa o alinhamento de diversas entidades, entre elas: <a class="wp-caption" title="ABEMD" href="http://www.abemd.org.br/" target="_self">Abemd (Associação Brasileira de Marketing Direto)</a>, <a class="wp-caption" title="ABRANET" href="http://www.site.abranet.org.br/" target="_self">ABRANET (Associação Brasileira dos Provedores de Internet</a>), <a class="wp-caption" title="AGADI" href="http://www.agadi.com.br/" target="_self">Agadi (Associação Gaúcha das Agências Digitais)</a>, <a class="wp-caption" title="IAB Brasil" href="http://www.iabbrasil.org.br/home.aspx" target="_self">Apadi (Associação Paulista das Agências Digitais), IAB Brasil (Interactive Advertising Bureau Brasil)</a> e <a class="wp-caption" title="PROTESTE" href="http://www.proteste.org.br/" target="_self">Pro Teste (Associação Brasileira de Defesa do Consumidor).</a></p>
<p>O estopim para a criação desta regulamentação foi a divulgação recente pela imprensa da proposta do código de auto-regulamentação para a prática do e-mail marketing. Assim como o movimento mundial de regulamentalização das regras praticadas na web – <a class="wp-caption" title="www A Rede Mundial de Pessoas" href="http://ensaiodigital.wordpress.com/2008/09/22/www-%e2%80%93-a-rede-mundial-de-pessoas/" target="_self">comentado no post anterior</a> – busca o mesmo propósito, algumas entidades-chave tentam fazer a prática ser verdadeira para o setor de email marketing no Brasil.</p>
<p>Este Petit Comitê, com cinco integrantes que representam todas as associações participantes do processo estão criando uma proposta de auto-regulamentação do mercado para regular e educar empresas que fazem e-mail marketing e ajudar no projeto de lei anti-spam.</p>
<p>As principais leis no setor se dividem da seguinte forma:</p>
<p>. Opt-out - modelo usado nos EUA, parte do princípio de que qualquer empresa pode enviar um e-mail sem o consentimento do destinatário, desde que respeito o direito ao descadastramento.</p>
<p>. Opt-in - Modelo usado na Austrália, no qual a empresa só pode enviar e-mail marketing com a autorização prévia e comprovável do destinatário. Sem a comprovação do opt-in, a empresa pode sofrer multas.</p>
<p>. Soft-opt-in - modelo usado na Europa, a empresa pode enviar para o destinatário quando já existe uma relação comercial ou social anterior, de forma que não seria necessária a permissão explícita e comprovável do destinatário. O soft opt-in pode proteger empresas que, no passado, construíram suas bases de relacionamento de e-mails sem usar tecnologia que armazenasse em seus bancos de dados a permissão de envio. A verdade é que muitas empresas não tem o opt-in comprovável.</p>

<p>There’s been a lot of talk in the news lately about putting cosmetics on farm animals.  Naturally, this made me think of lead generation. </p>
<p>No connection, you say? Consider this: Most lead generation campaigns are just internal strategy or positioning statements with some stock imagery added. </p>
<p>These internal documents, meant to define a product or brand, were never intended to be used outside the company. But because lead generation is often considered the poor stepsister of brand or image advertising, the people in charge of it too often think of it as a throwaway or no-brainer.<!--more--></p>
<p>The result is a press release, strategy statement, or internal briefing document that’s been poured into a direct mail or email template—and it reads like it. All the benefits that have been deemed important are there, but they’re in a laundry list with no focused message. There’s no respect for the limited time of the audience—the fact that busy businesspeople need a simple, clear takeaway that can be digested with a short skim.</p>
<p>In other words, the internal strategy statement is the pig. The pretty stock images, colors, and fonts are the lipstick.<a href="http://connectdirect.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/xo-comm-email.jpg"><img src="http://connectdirect.wordpress.com/files/2008/10/xo-comm-email.jpg" alt="" title="xo-comm-email" width="414" height="557" class="alignright size-full wp-image-185" /></a></p>
<p>Take this email from XO Communications (editor's note: contact information has been removed.)  The headline says “Convergence is Here,” without any clear benefit.  Presumably, the creators had discussed the benefit so much, it was obvious to them, only it’s not obvious to us, since we weren’t privy to their conference table discussions. Then, the bulleted list throws a lot of marketingspeak buzzwords around, but doesn’t make the benefits any more real, instead throwing out vague claims like “increased productivity.” Oh, and “business continuity features”—someday I’d sure like to know what they are! All internally approved benefit points, no doubt.</p>
<p>Then there’s the stock photo. Not only is it a cliché, but it contradicts the headline.  Is convergence ahead, or is it here? Plus, again, this visual conveys no benefit (or, really, any other information.)</p>
<p>Don’t cheat yourself of the response you’re after. Instead of putting lipstick on the pig, make sure your message is focused, simplified, and geared from the ground up for your audience.  Only then will you have an engaging piece of direct response advertising. And that’s a totally different animal.</p>

<p>Algumas vezes me deparo preenchendo formulários de cadastro em sites que contém campos completamente desnecessários para o tipo de cadastro que estou realizando. Por exemplo, já entrei em sites para me cadastrar para receber seus informativos, somente para isto, e havia campos de preenchimento obrigatório como Endereço - ora, se estão optando por uma campanha digital, então NUNCA vão me mandar uma mala direta impressa, porque isso seria regredir, uma vez que o custo de envio de newsletter e de e-mail marketing é infinitamente menor do que o custo de impressão e envio postal!</p>
<p>Em outros formulários eles pedem como campo de preenchimento obrigatório o CPF!! isso mesmo, pedem o meu CPF para que eles possam enviar um e-mail de propaganda para mim! Quando vejo isso, imediatamente a reação é fechar o site. Imagina que eu tenho que fornecer meu cpf para um site que eu não confio para que eles me enviem propaganda! Ou eles tem uma estratégia muuuuito inteligente por trás disso que minha mente não é capaz de compreender, ou não têm a menor idéia de que este campo por si só já é um obstáculo, e sendo obrigatório fica pior ainda.</p>
<p>Sei que alguns dados são importantes para que as empresas possam filtrar seus usuários cadastrados para receber informativos, como data de aniversário, estado e cidade onde residem, entre outros que variam muito de acordo com a maneira que a empresa utilizará esta base de dados. Mas aí a precisar de um CPF, ou um RG, aí eu discordo completamente.</p>
<p>A verdade é que quanto mais campos o usuário tem que preencher, menores as chances de ele completar o cadastro, e aí só quem perde é a empresa. O ideal seria somente o e-mail, mas aí complica porque fica muito genérico, então, eleja apenas os campos mais importantes, aqueles que serão usados para filtrar os dados na hora de enviar um e-mail para um ou para outro grupo. Facilite a vida do usuário e ganhe muito mais com isso.</p>

Because I’m worried about the abuse that messaging sometimes inflicts, I asked why her e-mail account wasn’t good enough. “No one uses it anymore,” she said. “They all use AIM.”</p>
<p>Welcome to our future? Maybe.</p>
<p>Open rates are <a href="http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/4214/Email-Open-Rate-Metrics-Why-Falling-Why-Unreliable.aspx">falling sharply</a>, and not just because Outlook blocks images. About 17% of Americans <a href="http://www.jupiterresearch.com/bin/item.pl/research:concept/1103/id=99861/">change e-mail addresses every six months</a>. Facebook is a supernova, and Twitter is expanding beyond the early adopter geeks.</p>
<p>I first noticed this with our members two years ago. When we surveyed them about their preferred communications vehicles, we expected to see a typical age curve for e-mail:</p>

<p>… a weakness in under-40 members’ use of e-mail.</p>
<p>This year, when we first asked our members to respond to our <a href="http://frankfortin.wordpress.com/2008/09/08/are-your-members-ready-for-social-technologies-maybe-more-than-you-think/">recent social technographics survey</a>, we used e-mail. Older members (over 45) responded in due proportion. Younger members did not. To get a good sample from them, we had to solicit their participation by additional means.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t pronounce the death of e-mail just yet, <a href="http://www.socialmediatoday.com/SMC/48047">though some are starting to</a>. We hate e-mail, but we need it -- for now. The world is ready for a better mousetrap.</p>
<p>Will it be Facebook? Twitter? Who knows. The killer replacement hasn’t appeared yet. But it’s going to be fun to experiment and watch.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While cleaning up my inbox, I came upon an e-mail I sent a 20-year-old intern six months ago. I had assigned her to cover a pop art exhibit of a local design group that produced shirts, buttons, bags, and practical items with witty one-liners, and the next day she turned in a piece that began with "I am allergic to pop art."</p>
<p>I remember how enraged I was. Did she think she was writing a reaction paper? She was writing for an arts and culture blog, I said, and what she just wrote wasn't funny at all.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Maybe you should let go of your negativity for once. You are young. There's so much in the world to explore. There's so much to be happy about. Go out and discover . . . experience new things. I trust that you will take up that challenge, be more open-minded, READ MORE, and spend less time with and on inane people or things. Read good sites like <a href="http://www.nymag.com" target="_self">NY Mag</a> and <a href="http://www.nytimes.com" target="_blank">NY Times</a>. Study how [other journalists write their] articles . . .</em></p>
<p><em>Pay attention to how writers tell the story without injecting themselves. Tell the story for others to know, not because you want to be a star in it. </em></p></blockquote>
<p>I thought it was just the perfect advice for me, who has been remiss in her own writing. I must admit I haven't been updated on my reading because everything of late has been about SEO writing, <a href="http://www.marketingwords.com/blog" target="_blank">marketing</a>, and e-mail marketing, or what my favorite writer <a href="http://pinoycentric.com/2008/03/10/butch-dalisay-answers-your-questions/" target="_blank">Butch Dalisay</a> calls "professional writing."</p>
<p>This is all for my own career growth, I know, but I never imagined myself writing headlines for e-mail campaigns, wishing that recipients would buy the products I was peddling because of the witty call to actions (this I can say, with much embarrassment, that copywriting isn't rocket science, at all, but why is it so hard for me to come up with a sexy, moving headline?)</p>
<p>I promise to do something more, uh, literary in October. Such as going back to finishing (or rewriting) my second book, which, by the way, was wiped out when a virus hit my system.</p>
