Edwardian Promenade, one of my favorite blogs, awarded me with an Excellent Blog Award. Thank you for the honor! This truly made my day, especially since other sites that have been chosen are fabulous and outstanding. You have placed me among august company. There are so many worthy blogs and I am having a hard time choosing. My criteria for passing this award on are that the blog must be well-written and researched; offer topics of historical, literary, cultural, or cinematic interest; and look visually luscious. Many of the blogs I would have nominated have already received this award, so here goes ...

(Inhaling deeply) I would like to nominate the following ten, er, twelve sites.

Austenprose: Laurel Ann, my blog partner on Jane Austen Today, always meticulously researches her topics and fits the appropriate image to the subject matter. You can tell that visual proportions count, and that she puts a great deal of thought and effort into her posts.

Paris Parfait: If you have never seen this blog, hurry and click on the link. My one wish is to have enough money to visit Paris any time I like. Paris Parfait assuages those yearnings.

Silver Screen Surroundings: This is Linda Merrill's latest blog. I also visit ::Surroundings::, her interior design blog, but these days I am more drawn to her analysis of movie sets.

18th Century Blog: This blog's visual feel is that of an 18th century confectioner's shop. Most of the posts are written in English, but not all.

The Period Movie Review: You will find movies reviewed within their centuries. The stills are gorgeous and I agree with the ratings more often than not.

Emma Adaptations: Kali includes anything and everything about Jane Austen's Emma. Her blog is a one-stop shop for all things Ms. Woodhouse, and I am amazed at the depth and scope of information on just this one novel.

Ripple Effects: Arti's interests turn to literature, movies, art, and other assorted topics that also interest me. I never know what I'll find when I visit.

Molland's: This site is not a blog, strictly speaking, but it contains the excellent Austen.blog, and other worthy links about Jane Austen, her life, novels, and letters that draw me back over and over.

Paris Breakfasts: The blogger of this site combines her watercolours of Parisian food and objects with photos of that astounding city. I am amazed at the scope of paintings and variety of photos of Paris foods, such as in this link. This site is definitely memorable!

Ellen and Jim Have a Blog Too: Ellen is so knowledgeable and so productive. I am always amazed at the thoughts, connections, and ideas that come from Professor Moody' mind. Her blog has a simple design, but you will spend hours reading and rereading her posts. She connects her topics to literature, history, art, philosophy, poetry, and film. Connectedness - isn't that what blogging is all about?

My eleventh blog (I know I went over the limit, but I could not resist) is Georgianna's Gossip Guide. Click on the link and you will see why. These two art historians are wickedly witty and delightful.

Bygone Beauty. I promise that this is my last nomination. Stopping by Kalianne's world is like taking a trip down memory lane.

Thank you Edwardian Promenade for nominating me. I enjoyed passing this award on.

Gracias a él he conocido alguna utilidad para mi ordenador.

Well folks, I don't want to bore you, but I just have to tell you I got another award! This Excellent Award was bestowed upon me by Joy of Joy of Desserts. As all of you may or may not know, we are real life friends, AND SHE STILL LIKES ME! Heh heh... Joy of Desserts is her new blog at Blogspot. Don't go over to her Joy of Desserts site unless you want to gain a few pounds on all those yummy desserts. My favorite is the Sprinkles Cupcake recipe that she has. They are to die for!

Anyway upon accepting this Award there are some rules.

Upon accepting the Excellent Blog Award, you agree to award it to 10 more people.

Link back to the person who gave you this awrd.

I am going to get greedy and accept this award even though I don't have 10 people to give this to. I dont think I even know 10 people! Everyone I know has accepted this award at least once, and maybe twice and I don't know if they would want another one.

But, maybe I missed someone, and if I did, please grab this award and run with it, plop it on your post, thank me profusely, and link back to my site.

Hey, if you want to see my Awards, just click on my sidebar where it says, "Awards"!

I am so excited! I received the Excellent Blogger Award from my bloggy friend Sharon over at Chasing Squirrels With Rusty, also known as "Rusty's Mom". Sharon has become a great bloggy friend and always visits my blog here at 4urpets as well as my new blog The Empty Nest. Sharon not only has a great doggy blog but also has another great blog at Blogspot called Hustle Hag. No doggys here, but still a lot of fun. If you haven't visited her at Hustle Hag yet, just mosie on over there and say, "Hi".

Upon accepting this Award, there are some rules listed below:

By accepting this Excellent Blog Award, you agree to award it to 10 more people whose blogs you find Excellent Award Worthy.

You can give the award to more people, but please award at least 10.

Link back to the person who gave you this award. If you don't link back, your blog will melt (I just added this).

Now, I would like to bestow this Excellent Blog Award to all my bloggy friends that would like one. I think I gave the Award to everyone I knew when I doled them out at The Empty Nest, and I don't know if everyone would like two or three of these.

I would also like to give an award to Wordpress as they have made my life a living h_ _ l. have an idea, can someone make an award and we will give it to wordpress? The award should be "IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT AWARD".

I was flattered to receive an Excellent Blog Award from Ruth of Body, Soul and Spirit a few days ago. Ruth lives not too far from the area I grew up (and where my parents still live, the location of a lot of my posts), near the town where Blackburnian grew up, an area I'm quite familiar with. So I was delighted to discover her blog a while ago. This award could easily be reciprocated.

The award is basically another meme, but it's another one that I'm happy to play along. The rules are that those who receive the award should pass it on to ten blogs that they themselves enjoy reading, but I won't enforce that. If any of my awardees want to recognize blogs themselves, I think that's great. There's nothing like receiving praise from others to boost your self-esteem!

I have 45 blogs bookmarked in my browser, all of which I visit daily or on a regular basis (although it can take a while to make it through that whole list after I've been gone a couple days!). Picking out just a handful to nominate is a challenge! I will bypass the well-read blogs like Julie Zickefoose and Bill of the Birds, although they would definitely be candidates. I suspect most people know about these ones anyway. Instead, here is a selection of smaller blogs I enjoy reading (tough to pick, and I had to leave out many!). In no particular order:

A Passion for Nature
Jennifer has a blog style similar to my own - investigative, posting about neat things she finds, a mix of personal observation and factual information. Hers was one of the first blogs I found, listed in my Wordpress tag surfer as having similar tags to what I was posting about. She's in western New York - not too far from myself.

Nature Remains
Nina writes about nature on her wonderful country property in southwestern Ohio. She has a beautiful poetic writing style that really captures the feeling in what she's seeing. Nina's was also one of the first blogs I found, and I continue to enjoy it.

Wrenaissance Reflections
Wren is located in Michigan, also not too far from my home. She has a great collection of observations on her surroundings, including recently a trio of Sandhill Cranes that set up shop in her backyard.

The Moth Man
A friend of mine here in Toronto, the Moth Man is currently on winter hiatus (there not being many moths around to blog about). He makes great posts about the moths that come to the lights he sets out to catch them, with fabulous photos. There's a whole 'nother world out there at night, and he gets some really neat stuff. You can browse his archives till the moths start flying again in a few weeks.

Wanderin' Weeta
Susannah resides in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. I love BC and the west coast, despite only having been out there a few times, and I enjoy reading her observations from that part of the world.

Rock Paper Lizard
Hugh is also from BC, but from the coastal mainland. He's originally from Toronto and shares some interesting insights that sometimes mention both locations. His posts are often observational, often informative, and always enjoyable to read, particularly for someone from such a different landscape.

Roundtop Ruminations
Carolyn lives halfway up a mountain in the Pennsylvanian forests. Hers is a unique perspective of nature due to her location - eastern, but up in the hills. She shares some lovely photos and observations from her world.

Sycamore Canyon
Kathie writes from Tuscon, Arizona. This is another part of the continent where I've only been once but absolutely loved the place. Her nature is so completely different from what surrounds me that it's like stepping into another world to read her posts.

Beth's Stories
Beth's is another of the blogs that I discovered early and have enjoyed reading since. Hers is a nice mix of personal stories and nature observations, as if she's sharing her home with you, not just her Maine backyard.

Mary's View
Mary is in North Carolina, and writes similarly to Beth, of both home and nature. Being much further south, I've enjoyed watching spring progress there while still snowed in here.

Drawing the Motmot
Debby is an artist from Oklahoma, and posts a lot about her sketching and paintings, as well as the natural world around her - sometimes incorporating both into one. As a fellow artist I really enjoy seeing and reading about her work.

The Ohio Nature Blog
As his blog title says, Tom is located in Columbus, Ohio. He's a wonderful photographer and complements his posts with some great images. He often includes interesting tidbits and useful tips on different things.

Okay, so that's 12. I told you it was hard to narrow them down! I hope you enjoy some of these as much as I have.

It's been an amazing blog week. I get so many gifts from you out there in Blogsville. Sometimes, it's a post someone's written that makes me laugh hysterically (and Tom look at me really funny). Other times, I'll read some gem of wisdom or someone will write exactly what I needed to read at exactly that moment. I get to wade through oceans of art, music, prose and poetry, and travel along with others on their daily journeys. I read about people's passions. I discover other writers who struggle with the same things that I do, or they'll post about some success which makes me feel both happy for them and encouraged for myself at the same time. The connections are incredible. I think I could go on forever about this. As you know, I go on forever about a lot of things. I'll spare you though, and just say that it's all pretty incredible.

This morning, I was sipping my coffee and checking my blog, and saw that I'd gotten this:

It's from Bipolar Chicks Blogging, and although I don't technically qualify as bipolar (yet), I think the moody nature of my blog (Happy Post! Depressing Post! Funny Post! Political Post!) qualified me for the award, for which Trailer Park Barbie nominated me. I feel so honored! By the way, even if you aren't bipolar, it's a great site (so is Barbie's). I seriously doubt that you can be dull when you're bipolar.

I received some beautiful paintings in my e-mail from one of my favorite artists (and people), Ion Danu. I've posted a couple of them here, and they're on my wall by my desk where I enjoy them all day long. I love his work, and these images truly make me happy.

Here's one of my favorite gifts of the day, from Maxine, of Maxine's House of Ill Repute. First of all, she had a post a few days ago entitled, "I Love Moonbeam McQueen." How can I not adore this person?

Maxine is funny, sassy, outspoken and at times controversial. One of my favorite blog combo meals. Yesterday, she wrote something about Shirley Q. Liquor, a comedian and radio personality that <strike>he</strike> <strike>she</strike> Maxine absolutely loves. I left a brief , not so positive comment about the person she was discussing. While I was writing it, I thought, "Uh oh. I'm not sure how she's going to take this." Sometimes things get lost in translation, and sometimes we just piss people off. You never know how your words will be taken.

Well, this morning, I read this post, and it really did make my pre-menopausal tear ducts leap into action. I adore you, Maxine, I really do.

My man Cangrejero over at The Midpoint has decided to cast pearls before swine and award me the Excellent Blogger Award.

So now it is my turn to award 10 blogs for being excellent. The only catch is that they must be individuals who I have not met in person.

Easier said that done.

Dennis Perrin is a shoe-in.

Dave Neiwert is one of the best. Brevity? Not so much.

DownwithTyranny is in there.

Tom Tomorrow is one of the best political cartoonists around, along with...

Lloyd Dangle. Troubletown also gets my side award for most frenetic home page.

Arthur Silber? Sometimes he's too real for me, but certainly in there.

Jesus's General. "An 11 on the scale of absolute manly gender." Need I say more?

Army of Dude? Check.

Church of the FSM? In there simply for the imagination/humor involved.

I miss Clapso. Who else has telepathic crickets?

So there you go. I didn't list any of the super big sites, because they are already insufferable enough as it is.

And just as soon as I figure out the trackback/pingback situation, they may even know I exist.

Wow, 2 posts in 2 days! That hasn't happened for a loooooong time.

Don't miss the: snow photos, hats a plenty and "soup recipe for a frosty week" included in yesterday's post!!!

Now back to our awards ceremony, already in progress.... ;)

First of all, I want to thank <strike>the academy </strike> and my dear blog bud, Caroline who writes one of my all-time fav. blogs: Earth Friendly Gardening, for chosing me for an Excellent Blog Award.

I am honored to be chosen and to be on your list with so many other blogs I also read and admire.

So now it's up to me to chose 10 more blogs/bloggers to recognize as Excellent Blogs and that was certainly tough to narrow down. I visit a lot of blogs that I really enjoy but here's 10 that I've chosen to share that I hope you will all enjoy too.

Happy Blogging and thanks for stopping by. :)

In no particular order, here's my list:

Earth Friendly Gardening : Caroline (in Rhode Island) offers a cornucopia of gardening and environmental advice. I am NO expert at gardening (far from it!) but I really enjoy stopping in to check out the latest beautiful photos and read what's new. I always learn a thing or two that I stow away for future reference. Someday, I am going to have an amazing garden and all this terrific info. will come in handy!! Added bonus, once in a while, C's gorgeous cats make an appearance too. Go Simba, Tiny and Scout!!!

PS: C, I would have put you on my list, even if I hadn't been on yours, really, truly !!!

Vixenpath : One of the newer additions to my blog rounds is to Ruinwen's (from Maryland) knitting blog. Love the poetic quotes she's added to many of her posts. Great to check in on what's on the needles and even better, when a kitty or two comes into view. I found Ruinwen's blog via, Sallee's- Knitnana, was always intrigued by her name when she left comments there and stopped by to see what she blogs about. I'm glad I did and I will be back!

Knitnana: Speaking of Sallee (who lives in Virginia) here's another knitting blog complete with cats, that I truly enjoy! Talented Sallee is always knitting and sewing up a storm. The lovely Meezer and her cat siblings provide many a LOL!!! Sallee is also committed to several charity knitting projects. I am humbled and amazed by all that she accomplishes. Wow, what a Wonderwoman!!

Sheepish Annie: Another knit blog that I regularly visit. Annie (in Maine) serves up the laughs, posting usually on a daily basis and keeping many of the blogging community riveted to their monitors, awaiting the next episode of Annie's adventures. The lovely Persephone (another cat, what can I say) adds glamour and fun and often graces us with her presence via photos on Annie's popular blog. One of the first blogs that I added to my 'route'.

Felt Like Knitting: Beth (in Georgia) hosts Felt Like Knitting. Her goodness and concern for others comes through in so many of her posts. I feel fortunate to have 'met' Beth. She has been so encouraging and kind to me during many a tough day I have been through, in the past couple of years. Thanks Beth. And also for the all the knit projects you have shared along the way and all the other insights you bring to your posts. Great job Beth!

Miss Woolly Knits: MaryAnne's (BC Canada, just a hoot and a holler away!) lovely blog has been mentioned on Veggies....many, many times! Actually, it was only yesterday when I was again singing the praises of this talented and very giving woman, in yesterday's post, just below this one. Love to stop in for a Friday visit, keep those posts and photos coming MaryAnne!

Live Stress-free Naturally: Michelle (in Oregon) has been a pal of mine for longer than I've been blogging. We actually met via email when we were both enrolled at the same correspondence school, that offered courses in natural healing etc. Michelle has been so helpful and encouraging to me. Her blog provides excellent resources to all of us coping with an overload of stress in our lives; offering practical and workable solutions on how to slow down, re-align our thoughts and cope better, in today's busy world. I look forward to all your posts M, keep up the good work!

Bittersweet: My blog award list would be lacking, without at least sharing one (of many) food blogs I enjoy. The talented (and VERY young) Hannah (lives in the U.S. I think???) has already authored a beautiful and timely cookbook: My Sweet Vegan. She shares her photographic, culinary and crafty talents via her lovely blog. Initially, found my way to Bittersweet because of her gorgeous avatar photo of a heart which I noted on a blog comment and I'm glad I did.

Arboreality:Talented Jade (in Pennsylvania) hosts several blogs. Another very busy woman who seems to have time to fit so much into every day (how do they do it!!!) Jade shares her plant knowledge, in particular her love of trees via informative posts and wonderful photos. Check out all her blogs (listed at Arboreality) including: Brainripples and AppleJade. Definitely worth a stop along the blog-way.

Alberta Postcards: Last but certainly not least on my list is one of my newest fav. blogs. Hosted by Diane (from Alberta Canada) this is a blog to enchant the senses, with beautiful floral and nature photos, poetry and well-crafted posts. Like a stop in a beautiful garden, when in need of a break from a hectic day. I'm certainly glad I found Diane's lovely blog.

I got to know about Alberta Postcards via Caroline's- Earth Friendly Gardening, so I guess you could say I've come full-circle!

So, there's my list of 10 Excellent Blogs. You all deserve the award for all that you bring to the blogging world. I hope you will also take the time to recognize 10 of your own picks for the best of the blogs. I look forward to reading your lists, soon! :)

I was tagged the other day by Half Pint Pixie for an Excellent Blog Award.

Kate’s byline is “Improving my life one habit at a time”. I like it! Her blog has veggie food, sustainable living hints, health info & some posts which inspire me to declutter my house (which can only be a good thing!)

Here’s the associated small print:

By accepting this Excellent Blog Award, I have to award it to 10 more people whose blogs I find Excellent Award worthy. I can give it to as many people as I want but please award at least 10. Thank you out there for having such great blogs and being such great friends! You deserve this!

If chosen, you agree to the same information above. If chosen, also feel free to award people who have already been awarded…

Without further ado I present my personal ten of the best I have come across during my travels through the blogosphere...

24 daily habits by Peter at I will change your life. Peter had a "year of change" in 2007 when he became a father for the first time and relocated from Australia to Canada. Really good, thought provoking blog.

Thomas Laupsad's Pictures from Northern Norway. This photo shows the first sunlight of the year. I love this blog, I find the photos so peaceful and get inspiration from this beautiful part of the world. Thomas is also a knitter and writes a blog about this too.

The Smirking Cat is trying to make sense of a world that has completely and unapologetically lost its mind. This post makes me think that there are some people who should never have kids.

The Positivity Blog - Five mistakes I have made with personal development information. I love all these self-help books and blogs, but sometimes the sheer amount of information becomes a whole other problem.

I love reading Jo's rants at Please Don't Eat with Your Mouth Open. Hell truly is other people!

Groovy Vegetarian has some great ideas and thoughts about the vegetarian lifestyle. I love the dark humour of this post about some knick knacks you might like for your mantlepiece.

Adam at Joy Chaser with a post about "Productive Procrastination". As a recovering procrastinator I identify only too well!

La Marguerite is a green girl wannabe originally from France and now living in the USA. Her blog is about green psychology, and I love this post about the environmental scorecard of the ads shown during the Superbowl last weekend.

Jason at A miracle a day is another personal development blogger. He has written some very incisive posts about relationships, my favourite being The 7 Pillars of Strong Relationships.

Last but not least is Yanik at Avoxtar 2.0. I like this blog as it is about living a better life but not getting too serious about it. This post about meditation is a favourite.

Please check out these blogs as I'm sure you will find something of interest if you like my blog. To those I've tagged, it would be a nice gesture to pay it forward to your own favourites, but don't feel that you have to.

It seems that the excellent blog award is making its rounds through all the birthing blogs because I received the award twice last weekend from a couple educators at Independent Childbirth. Thanks, Nicole for granting me this award "for the Best Menu Bar and Side Bar." She says "I have loads of easy to find, user-friendly information on her blog. And it doesn't look messy!"

Thanks, Sheridan, for saying that "I have wonderful supportive posts on all topics, from first foods to positive birth stories. Ask her questions and she will give you thoughtful inspirational answers."

In order to accept this award, I must pass it along to at least 10 other blogs. I've decided to give a few to pregnancy related sites, but I'm also branching out a little bit. Here are my picks:

I'm sending this award over to joyful chaos for her step-by-step front wrap baby carrier tutorial in pictures. I love reading her varied blog about parenting and homeschooling.

to the Mother Tongue for being a funny, sometimes outrageous mothering blog. Here's the straight dirt on cloth diapering and read about her gameshow debut.

to Belly Tales, the diary of a midwife (used to be the diary of a student midwife). Here are a few videos she posted of Angelina the Midwife.

to Well Preserved for being a nice birth blog with an emphasis on VBAC with a local flair. Here's a post about births on TV.

to the new Independent Childbirth blog for being a diverse group of birth junkies.

to Mountain Shade, for her breathtaking photographs of Alaska. See the photos of dall sheep and rainbows.

to Tea Time with Liz for having the best ever photograph of brownies and milk.

to the Thinking Mother for being, well, a thinking mother. Her posts are thoroughly researched. Read all about cacoa and her homemade hot cocoa recipe.

to a Fresh Start for gracefully moving through her life after the death of her husband...read about what would have been her 19th anniversary.

and last but not least, to dooalot for posting crazy pictures from the 1970's of when she was a kid.
