tiny harmonica, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I bought this some time ago. Couldn't resist it or resist taking a pic of it. It's a little keyring harmonica. It's fully functional and sounds surprisingly good.

I have a passion for exotic music and strange instruments although I can't often afford to buy them. I have several ukuleles of all varieties from bass to soprano including a beautiful Ovation Applause electric one. I also have a mini piano accordion and an original bass Stylophone. I know they have been put on sale again but having an original is somehow much cooler.

One of the most majestic exotic instruments is the bellowphone which is an eccentric beast of an instrument built by an equally eccentric guy but the sound it gives out is unbelievable; like a multi one man band on steroids. Listen to it it's wonderful. Listen here and of course below...

I am a truly international traveller. My wheel-rims were manufactured in Belgium, the spokes in Birmingham, and put together by a wheelwright in Portchester, Hampshire. The generator for the lighting originated in Germany, as did the front light, and the rear light came from France [try not to read too much into that]. The gear-shift mechanism is from Italy, sprockets are from Japan, the the chain chainrings from The Netherlands. The frame was hand-crafted in a small workshop in Honley, Yorkshire and there all the other parts were brought together and made into one whole bicycle. To complete the picture the once-black canvas saddlebag was made in Nelson, Lancashire, and the panniers are from New Zeeland.

The international flavour doesn't stop there as, apart from my club jersey which was hand made somewhere in the south of England, there is very little clothing which hasn't come from somewhere else in the world. If I list the items of clothing I'm wearing by country, China, Thailand, India, Italy, France, USA, Palestine, I've visited three of the five continents already. Items in the bags have travelled just as far, spanning Europe from West to East, Scandinavia, South America and Asia; it might have been easier to say almost everywhere except Africa.

We have moved a long way from the times when every cycle component would have a 'Made In Britain' stamp on it. In those days to own Italian cycle-shoes or have French gear-sprockets fitted to the hub was the exception and something rather exotic. Now the opposite is true and while some things are different I'm not sure it has made anything genuinely better. There are still those who like to flash their cycles around but the ones who get the most admiring looks often own machines which are actually 'Made in Britain'.

Stronzate e soggettività a parte, "Uh-Oh!"

MP3 Playlist

Bostich - "Polaris"

Esquivel - "Día y noche (day and night Señor Coconut remix)"

MP3 Playlist 2

Tito Contreras - "Brazil"

Fauna Flash - "Free (Salvador Group Remix)"

Bajofondo Tango Club - "Infiltrado"

Greyboy Allstars & Karl Denson - "Home Cookin’"

Robert Drasnin deserves a solid spot in the history of exotica for his 1959 album “Voodoo” (also released with a different cover as “Percussion Exotique”), which exemplifies the genre as well as the best of Martin Denny or Les Baxter. Following its release, in fact, he was hired to arrange Denny's “Latin Village” album. Raised in Los Angeles, Drasnin started as an alto sax player, working with Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown, and other big bands. He later switched to flute and performed with small combos, including Red Norvo's. After the early 1950s, he worked primarily as a studio musician and arranger. He did graduate work in composition at UCLA in the mid-1950s and became an associate conductor of the UCLA Symphony. He eventually became musical director for CBS television, where he scored such shows as "Lost in Space" and "The Wild, Wild West." He and Gerald Fried handled most of the scoring work on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." after Lalo Schifrin left. Drasnin also scored the films "The Hot Angel," "Picture Mommy Dead," "Ride the Whirlwind," and "The Kremlin Letter." He currently teaches film music composition at UCLA and has been rediscovered with the new revival of exotica.

In 2007, Drasnin collaborated with archivist and arranger Skip Heller and X drummer D.J. Bonebrake (on vibes) to record and release “Voodoo II.” Drasnin has been playing selections from both discs at various festivals around the country and in Europe with members of local symphony orchestras. He will be performing his exotic sounds live at the 8th annual Tiki Oasis festival in San Diego on August 15.

A special limited numbered 7” picture disc with tracks from both Drasnin CDs and artwork by Shag and Heather Watts will be on sale at this event. Canadian artist Watts will be on hand to sign the disc with Drasnin.

In installment #2, I believe I mentioned that there would be more albums regarding a white person

In installment #2, I believe I mentioned that there would be more albums regarding a white person's idea of Africa.

Now, there are times that, due to the difficulty in getting black people to act like our stereotypes of them, we must instead get white people to do our dirty work for us.

Dave Harris and the Powerhouse Five would like to remind you that despite social objections, cannibalism can be a good thing for everybody. See the nice lady in the burning pot? Look at how much fun she seems to be having! Wouldn't you just like to join her?

"Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals" was released by Decca in 1960. Not much more info seems to exist on the band. Except that one blogger observed that the chick in the pot looks a lot like Hilary Clinton. There are still reissues being made of the work of this band on Rhino Records.

Anna Russell here has angered the local native population because she was playing with someone's bongo drums without asking. You know how it is. How would you feel if you knew your house guest was playing with your drum kit or your guitar that you worked so hard to tune up? Non-musical people don't seem to sympathise with these things, and just barge in and use our stuff anyway, and it angers us. I don't have any spears to throw at them, but gosh, I would find something.

Notice also the kinds of loincloths the natives are wearing. They look like Scottish kilts without the tartan; cut instead from maybe a tablecloth. Anna Russell, who died in 2006, was a vocalist and comedienne, whom we can't be sure if her birthplace is London, England or London, Ontario.

Another Decca 1956 recording, "Africa Speaks, America Answers" shows a nice effort to try and establish diplomacy. I understand many people from the that continent will still find it humorous in the sense that Africa always seems to be discussed as if it were just one country.

The artists here are cited as "Guy Warren with the Red Saunders Orchestra under the direction of Gene Esposito". I am able to suss out that Guy Warren is the black guy on the bongos, whose birth name is Warren Gamaliel Akwei. He has worked with such greats as Theolonius Monk and Charlie Parker. Warren, who now goes by the name of Kofi Ghanaba, now lives in Ghana.

The Limbo has a lot of symbolic significance these days, in North American culture, especially with the effects of free trade on ordianry people. "How low can you go?" is not just for that young lady in the pink dress anymore. It is for labour standards, environmental standards, oh, don't get me started.

I just wonder, if the limbo rod (or whatever that horizontal thing is called) burns through and burning pieces fall on top of her, does she "lose" this limbo contest? Can she sue for injuries?

Teachers in the woods! Climbing rocks and jumpin’ in waterfalls! That’s what

Teachers in the woods! Climbing rocks and jumpin' in waterfalls! That's what I call a workshop! For 5 very full days, two dozen educators traveled the Land of Waterfalls, centered around the Brevard fault, seeing some amazing geology, flora, and fauna with the staff of, and presenters for, the Pisgah Forest Institute. We got treated like teacher queens for a day (okay, one other guy besides me as kings in this group of elementary school teachers). We got free stuff, wonderful information and some great hikes.

[caption id="attachment_276" align="aligncenter" width="533" caption="teachers in the Little River!"][/caption]

The Pisgah Forest Institute is an initiative of Brevard College - a beautiful campus that is ancient as a 2 year college but only 14 years old as a 4 year. PFI focuses on "the earth and environmental science needs educators encounter in their classrooms. " The workshops are funded partly through grants from the USDA Forest Service. This part of the mountains receives more annual rainfall than anywhere in the continental U.S. except for the Northwest temperate rain forests (or would if there weren't a severe drought). There is a unique feel to the wilderness areas and even more so to the farmland, it seemed to me this trip. Rich, well cultivated fields and not so much the hard scrabble feel you see (disappearing) in the northern section of our mountains.

The town of Brevard hosts a Music Center, has a nice college/tourist shop and bar scene, and is famous for - did I mention them?, - the white squirrels. These little guys just blew me away, and set me off on an extended online chase to research white squirrels. There was a lot to find. The local history traces their origin to an overturned carnival truck in 1949. There is a research institute devoted to them, a White Squirrel Festival each year in Brevard, and of course a White Squirrel Lover's blog. The very best picture I found online is on a realty site, and clearly the white squirrel is a promotion bonanza for the town of Brevard, though their claim to fame is not without controversy (other "homes of the white squirrel").

[caption id="attachment_281" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="on the move"][/caption]

White Squirrel Photo Album

The PFI would educate and inform us and then take us on a related field trip. We made 3 major expeditions: Holmes Educational State Forest, Caeser's Head State Park, and a new amenity, Dupont State Park, which contains several spectacular waterfalls. We also conducted a stream activity at the trout hatchery on the Davidson River. Each place offered valuable lessons and experiences. At Holmes, which is open to the public, we practiced tree i.d. and took the "talking tree" walk. Caeser's Head offered spectacular views of the Piedmont vista as seen from the edge of the Blue Ridge system. So many wonderful pictures - I offer an album at the end of the post, and many of the following text images are linked to a picture.

The park gots its name from a head-shaped rock that protrudes from the highest viewpoint. Across the chasm, you see Tablerock Mountain, a monolith of intruded younger rock whose side is painted by the staining action of rainwater.

Dupont, after a decent hike, offered beautiful waterfall views, including some used in The Last of the Mohicans. Here the Brevard Fault is in full view, fracturing and pushing til some of the huge blocks become square tree planters. The Little River winds its way down the rock cascades, though it was quite low the day my pictures were taken.

The young lady below is leaping from Hooker Falls, another fault-block structure in the park. We learned some background geology at Caeser's Head and then put it into action at Dupont, locating the folded layers in a piece of gneiss that represent eons of slow bending pressure.

Chocolate

Oh be adam gibi bir film. Filmde herşey mevcut. Johhy Depp abimin bakışları, siyah saçlı, Fransız çikolatacı ablam ve çikolata kaplı eller. Fazla fetiş odlu : )

Unfaithful

Yorum bile yapmayacağım. Yok abicim bana ters bu filmina dı...

The Dreamers

3 öğrencinin 68 Fransa'sında yaşadıkları ilişkileri anlatıldığı kışkırtıcı faland eğil düpedüz hard bir film. kaçın uzaklaşın bu liste iyice sapıttı : )

Exotica

The Virgin Suicides ve Marie Antoinette

Kirsten Dunst diyim ben size... Virgin Suicides deki fimin sonuna doğru kapı kenarındaki o seksi hareketleri yeter de artar bile...

In August of 2007, history was made as the Atlanta Fashion Network presented the first annual Atlanta International Fashion Week with its benefits and big name designers that attracted Atlanta’s finest. This year, from July 23th through 27th, fashion will take center stage again for the second installment of the most highly anticipated fashion event of the year featuring international fashion moguls, celebrities, models, agents, press and buyers at downtown Atlanta’s prominent exposition center, the Georgia World Congress Center.

In producing AIFW, the Atlanta Fashion Network plans to shape fashion and style by displaying what Atlanta has to offer in fashion to the world. Atlanta is known to be a chief influence and birthplace of numerous mainstream musicians and genres, however it is the goal of AIFW Director, Paula Whittle, to have Atlanta recognized as an emerging fashion capital. She says: “Atlanta is known as a music Mecca, but is now becoming a site for fashion stimulus, and can now play a major role in the fashion arena and gain international recognition. I want to bridge the two to create a powerful, innovative convergence.” With that, the Atlanta International Fashion Week welcomes international designers and models from various countries such as Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and the Virgin Islands.

Atlanta International Fashion Week will offer innovative and informative workshops and fashion based curricula within Pretty Academy School of Fashion. Classes will be instructed by industry experts and AIFW Fashion Council such as Leo Marshall (Celebrity Photographer), Mychael Knight (Project Runway, Celebrity Designer), Sybil Pennix (Celebrity Stylist) and many more. In addition, AIFW will feature an exquisite and innovative trunk show, “Fashion Store” and premiere fashion runway shows.

AIFW will feature catwalk favorites modeling fall’s hottest looks with showcases from famous lines such as Tboz’s Chase Closet, Ed Hardy, Rock & Republic, True Religion, Akademiks, Apple Bottoms, Enyce, Baby Phat, Phat Farm, Rocawear, and Young Jeezy’s 8732, plus many more. Some of the elaborate shows include Kouture Kids, Urbanstyle Fashion Affair, Exotica, Fantasy Island, Curvy Couture, PRIVE Fashion Affair, and Men of Style to cater to the style in everyone.

Come to Atlanta to experience the convergence of the most powerful ideas and most powerful network. From Wednesday to Sunday, you’ll be immersed in actionable learning and profitable exchange. Atlanta International Fashion Week has teamed up with the fashion industry’s internationally renowned elite to afford aspiring designers and models the opportunity to network, learn, and enjoy the best that Atlanta has to offer in fashion, style, glamour, and nightlife at various acclaimed venues, night clubs and restaurants. This star-studded affair will be entertaining and designed to benefit local and national charities all in the name of fashion. Some of the many AIFW supporters and partners include Inside Fashion World Magazine, Mymodeltalk.com, DTLR, Elvie G Public Relations, Paul Mitchell School, John Robert Powers, JPat Records, Mallard Magazine, Dan Agency, La La Sincerely Inc, and many more.
