Y como no recordar que una de las "causas" excusa de la expulsión de Chobenalla fue este puto evento, aún recuerdo las declaraciones,los malos ratos y me entra la mala hostia.

No sé qué haré...

That was central to the message Derek Dingle had for a morning gathering Wednesday at the Marriott Hotel in Newport News. Dingle, the editor of Black Enterprise magazine, was the keynote speaker for the kickoff breakfast for the 2008 Virginia Black Expo. The Expo, in its fourth year in Virginia, runs through this weekend with several events. It culminates with the day-long Expo on Saturday at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

Dingle, a Norfolk native, told the audience that black businesses need to look beyond their traditional market if they are to grow. He pointed out that the number of soul food restaurants in Harlem has declined rapidly over recent years as eating habits have changed and as the area has become more integrated. One restaurant, Sylvia's, continues to thrive, Dingle said, because it adapted its menu to provide healthier offerings and diversified its revenue by offering its products for sale via the Internet and other channels.

Black businesses who are able to succeed and reach mass audiences have a greater chance at long-term success, said Dingle. There is nothing wrong with doing business with black people, but you cannot make a sustained living on that alone, he added.

Which leads to the Obama reference. Dingle suggested that those businesses with crossover appeal helped to pave the way in our collective culture and make it possible for an African American man to be considered for president. It is not such a novelty and it seen as possible in a "post-racial" society, many experts and observers have claimed.

The other purpose of the breakfast was to highlight the achievements of black businesses in Hampton Roads and discuss the state of black business in the area. The thing is, no one has a true handle on the state of black business in Hampton Roads, which might suggest something ominous. However, anecdotally and judging by the number of business people at the breakfast, black business is doing well. This isn't Atlanta or D.C. or even Charlotte, but we're coming along.

The economic development departments of the cities want to find out just how far we have come and will be reaching out soon in the form of a survey. I'll be writing about that later, with all the details and how you can participate. The intention is to get a handle on who are the black businesses here, what they do and what the economic impact is.

What I will be interested in knowing, though, is what will come of that data and what is the plan for using it? Will it be used to market this area as being the next mecca for black business? As an advertising and marketing expert, I think in those terms. How can we craft the reputation of this area as being friendly to minority business and as a place where you can be successful? Let's face it, a lot of people outside of here still think of Hampton Roads as just a military region. Yes, we are a military region and VERY proud of it, but we are a lot of other things, too.

I think it is great that this effort is underway with the help of Louisa Strayhorn, who is now back in private business as a consultant. I can't wait to get my hands on that data.

Un mes después de la apertura de la Expo, la Federación de Asociaciones de Implantados Cocleares de España (Federación AICE) ha presentado un informe sobre la accesibilidad a la comunicación en el cual se han puesto en evidencia las graves deficiencias que tienen el recinto y casi todos los pabellones, incluidos el de España.  
 
El informe consta de un examen crítico y exhaustivo de toda la Expo, el resumen del cual se ha publicado en la revista INTEGRACIÓN nº 47, acompañado de una carta, en la cual se puede leer una de las experiencias de primera mano con la opinión de un visitante del colectivo.
 
La Federación AICE lamenta que a pesar del esfuerzo y los recursos económicos destinados a la accesibilidad para las personas sordas o con problemas auditivos, existan importantes Barreras a la Comunicación, tanto en los espectáculos como en los pabellones de la EXPO.
 
Se hace especial énfasís en la situación del pabellón de España, donde los audiovisuales son inaccesibles para las personas con deficiencia auditiva, lo que es inaceptable, ya que se trata peor a los sordos españoles que a los turistas ingleses o franceses, en un evento que lucha por la visión de un mundo mejor y donde se discrimina al no poder disfrutar de los actos con plena accesibilidad a la comunicación.
 
Tanto los pabellones de Agua Extrema, como El Faro de Iniciativas Ciudadanas, son otros ejemplos donde las Barreras a la Comunicación prevalecen en sus actos y audiovisuales.
 
Una de las agradables excepciones es el pabellón de Japón, donde su esfuerzo en accesibilidad a la comunicación se observa en el subtitulado en español y asientos reservados para personas con deficiencia auditiva en su audiovisual.
 
Consideramos que se han despilfarrado recursos en actos elitistas, mientras que los actos populares e infantiles son inaccesibles. Deploramos que se hayan tomado las decisiones para la accesibilidad a la comunicación, sin contar con la totalidad del colectivo de usuarios, provocando esta lamentable situación y menospreciando nuestro colectivo.

Ik ben woensdag es gaan kijken en ik was dik onder de indruk.
De tentoonstelling loopt nog tot 14 september.

Una folla compatta in fila presso lo stand allestito per l’occasione. Un odore invitante e stuzzicante che ha invaso l’intera fiera. La richiesta di riproporla ancora nei prossimi giorni

Un grandissimo successo di pubblico e di critica. Lo scorso sabato 16 agosto si è svolto presso il Palasport Tagliatatela a Ischia il primo atteso appuntamento con il Festival delle Sagre dei Sapori Tradizionali. Re della serata è stato il coniglio, il tipico piatto che non manca mai sulle accoglienti tavole ischitane.

Circa una quarantina di conigli, preparati dalle sapienti mani dello chef e poi cotti in abbondante Olio Carli, in un mega padellone in rame di due metri di diametro per quaranta centimetri di altezza.

«Non ci aspettavamo di riscuotere un così grande successo – ci spiega Lello Irace, patron col fratello Peppe dell’ExpoIschia – siamo molto soddisfatti e per questo ora appronteremo un nuovo calendario con molte più sagre, magari con i Sapori Tradizionali delle regioni italiane, già presenti in Fiera.»

Pian piano che la cottura andava avanti e i pezzetti di coniglio da rosei andavano ad imbrunirsi l’odore che ha invaso l’intero Palasport ha “guidato” come un filo magico i tanti visitatori che nella serata di sabato hanno scelto la Fiera Mediterranea per trascorrere un week-end diverso dal solito, fino all’area esterna dove faceva bella mostra di sé il pentolone in rame stracolmo di ottimo coniglio immerso in una invitante salsa con Olio Carli, pomodoro isolano e vino.

Già prima dell’ultimazione della cottura la fila per ritirare la propria porzione di bucatini col sugo di coniglio, un pezzetto di carne, un po’ di pane di Altamura e un buon bicchiere di vino era lunghissima (il tutto a soli 5 euro) e dall’esterno giungeva agli stand interni.

E poi che soddisfazione: un gusto unico, buonissimo, la carne molto tenera e succulenta grazie alla lenta cottura e l’acquolina dei visitatori che non hanno resistito a lasciarsi andare ad abbondanti bis

E’ sicuramente il piatto classico ischitano che gustano ogni anno i turisti che arrivano sulla nostra isola. Appuntamento quindi nei prossimi giorni con altre leccornie e meraviglie del primo Festival delle Sagre dei Sapori Tradizionali, non dimenticando i colorati stand che si possono vistiare all’interno della fiera e poi gli appuntamenti con i beniamini della tv, le selezioni del Grande Fratello 9, la serata sulla Donazione degli Organi e le selezioni di Miss Mondo.

Este domingo la cultura y el sabor de Vietnam llega hasta La Almunia, gracias al trabajo llevado a cabo desde la Consejería de Turismo de la comarca, cuyo consejero Juan José Moreno (CHA) ha destacado que gracias al "hermanamiento llevado a cabo entre la comarca y el país asiático este domingo se podrá disfrutar con uno de los espectáculos que más está gustando en la Expo".

Si bien el próximo día 2 de septiembre se celebrará en la comarca el día de Vietnam, este domingo a partir de las 21,30 en el pabellón multiusos de La Almunia se podrá contemplar un espectáculo en el que se escuchan los cantos y canciones populares del país. En este espectáculo se congregan sobre el escenario hasta once personas, cinco bailarines y seis músicos que hacen las delicias del público.

Durante el show también se realiza un espectáculo con marionetas y los artistas llevan las ropas tradicionales de seda de Vietnam.
