เมื่อ 2 วันที่ผ่านมา กับการอัพเดทของ Firefox จาก 3.0.1 เป็น 3.0.2 แถมนําเอา หมาไฟพันธุ์ไทย เอามาให้ใช้กันอีกด้วย (ขอบคุณทีมแปล ที่อุตส่าเสียสละเวลา) แต่ๆๆ การอัพเดทวันนั้นก็มา พร้อมกับบั๊ก ที่ค่อนข้างร้ายแรงคือ เราจะไม่สามารถบันทึก รหัสผ่านได้ ด้วยเหตุนี้ 3.0.3 จึงตามออกมารวดเร็วทันใจก็ออกมาเพราะ แก้บั๊กที่ว่านั้นแหละ และ ก็นี่อีกตัว แต่ประเด็นหลักที่อัพไวขนาดนี่ น่าจะเป็นเพราะบั๊กตัวที่ไม่จํารหัสผ่านมากกว่า

ทำไมต้องแปลภาษาไทย

คำตอบที่ชัดเจนที่สุด ผมแนะนำว่าให้เดินไปดูคอมพิวเตอร์ของห้องธุรการที่ใกล้ที่สุด ว่า Office ที่คุณพี่หรือคุณป้าธุรการใช้ เป็นภาษาอะไรครับ

ส่วนคำตอบแบบขยายความขึ้นมาหน่อย ก็ต้องบอกว่า “ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่เก่งภาษาอังกฤษ” อย่าเอาตัวเองเป็นที่ตั้ง

สมัยก่อนผมก็เคยคิดแบบนี้ว่า คนไทยอ่านภาษาอังกฤษออก จะแปลภาษาไทยไปทำไมให้งง แต่หลังจากผมได้ทำงานด้าน deployment ชุดออฟฟิศในหน่วยของรัฐไทยขนาดใหญ่หลายแห่ง (ในที่นี้คือ OpenOffice.org) ความเชื่อของผมก็สั่นคลอนอย่างรุนแรง เมื่อผมพบว่าผู้ใช้จำนวนมากไม่สามารถใช้งานโปรแกรมภาษาอังกฤษได้เลย

สรุปว่า การส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้ภาษาไทยเป็นการ “สร้างโอกาสในการเข้าถึงคอมพิวเตอร์” ให้กับคนจำนวนมากขึ้น ถ้าตอบแบบวิชาการก็คือลด digital divide ทำลายกำแพงด้านภาษาลงไป (ถือเป็นการพัฒนาประเทศแบบอ้อมๆ อย่างหนึ่ง) มันคือการสร้าง “ทางเลือก” อันใหม่ขึ้นมาให้คนเลือก เมนูภาษาอังกฤษก็ไม่ได้หายไปไหน

ทำไมเมนูภาษาไทย ใช้แล้วไม่คุ้นเลย

อันนี้มีคำอธิบายทางวิทยาศาสตร์ คือปกติแล้วเวลาเราอ่านเมนูภาษาอังกฤษ เราจะ “อ่าน” เพียงครั้งแรกๆ เท่านั้น พอรู้แล้วว่ามันใช้ทำอะไรได้ หลังจากนั้นเราจะใช้วิธีจำ “รูปร่าง” และ “ตำแหน่ง”​ แทนการอ่านเพื่อเอาความหมาย

ในเมื่อเราถูกฝึกให้ใช้งานเมนูภาษาอังกฤษมาตลอดชีวิตการใช้คอมพิวเตอร์ พอมาเจอเมนูภาษาไทยแค่ไม่กี่นาที มันไม่มีทางคุ้นเคยได้ในเวลารวดเร็วปานนั้น อารมณ์เดียวกับคนใช้เมาส์เปลี่ยนไปใช้ trackball หรือคนใช้วินโดวส์เปลี่ยนไปใช้แมค-ลินุกซ์

นอกจากนี้ ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาที่คำหนึ่งคำมีความหมายชัดเจน ไม่คลุมเครือ และใช้ตัวสะกดน้อย ในขณะที่ธรรมชาติของภาษาไทย ความหมายไม่แน่ชัดนัก (ตัวอย่างเช่น “ค่อนข้างมาก” กับ “มาก” ในภาษาไทย แทบไม่ต่างกัน) และมักอธิบายโดยใช้ประโยคหรือวลีที่ยาว

ปัญหาคือโปรแกรมที่เราใช้ส่วนมากฝรั่งเขียน และเว้นที่ในโปรแกรมไว้ให้เหมาะกับการใส่ภาษาอังกฤษ (หรือภาษาตระกูลตะวันตก) ดังนั้นคนแปลไทยจึงไม่มีทางเลือกอื่น นอกจากเลือกคำที่ดีที่สุดที่สั้นกระชับพอจะใส่ลงไปในเนื้อที่ขนาดเท่ากับของฝรั่งได้

• ภาษาอังกฤษยังมีให้เลือกใช้เสมอ ไม่หายไปไหน
• การแปลซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส ไม่ว่าจะเป็นโปรแกรมอะไร เป็นงานอาสาสมัคร ไม่มีใครมีหน้าที่มาตอบปัญหาหรือแก้ปัญหาโดยตรง
• ความเห็นในเรื่องการแปล ทุกคนสามารถเสนอได้ โอเพนซอร์สเปิดกว้างเสมอ
• แต่การเสนอ ควรใช้ช่องทางที่เตรียมไว้ให้แล้ว
• ถ้าคิดว่าแปลไม่ดี ควรเสนอคำที่ดีกว่าด้วย ไม่ใช่ติอย่างเดียว

ผมว่าการแปลภาษาไทยไม่ใช้เรื่องแปลกหรอกน่ะครับ แต่ผมคิดว่ามันคือความสะดวกสำหรับคนไม่เคยใช้มาก่อนจะได้รู้ว่าไอ้ตัวนี้คืออะไร มันทำอย่างไร แล้วมันจะนำไปสู่อะไร ถึงจะใช้ภาษาอังกฤษมามากสำหรับกระบวนการอ่านผมว่าต้องมีการแปลภาษาอังกฤษที่เราอ่านมาบ้างแหละ(ผมยังต้องอ่านและแปลเลย...)

First you need to know that all your setting are saved in FF configuration menu. Now Config menu doesn have any GUI. Its in a form of table containing several parameters. Its like registry in windows(wait FF3 doesn blot) and config.*** in linux.

Here’s what you do:
In the URL bar, type “about:config” and press Enter.
This will bring up the configuration “menu” where you can change the parameters of Firefox.

Note that the following parameter tweaks are what I have found speed up Firefox on my computer, and these settings should work fine for other broadband internet users.

Double Click on the following settings and put in the numbers below - for the true / false booleans - they’ll change when you double click. If you cannot find a particular entry in the list, there is a search bar at the topic of the screen to narrow the list down.

Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. Since you’re broadband - it shouldn’t have to wait.

Now you should notice you’re loading pages MUCH faster now!

แค่เข้าหน้าเว็บก็ดีใจแล้วละครับ ว่ามันมีเวอร์ชั่นภาษาไทยอย่างเต็มตัวแล้ว ถ้าคุณคันไม้คันมืออยากจะใช้FireFox 3.0.2 ละก็คลิกรูปภาพดาวน์โหลดได้เลยครับ

พอหลังจากที่เราติดตั้งเสร็จแล้ว ลองเข้า FireFox 3.0.2 ก็ตกใจ ว่าเป็นภาษาไทยล้วนๆ เลยน่ะ คือเขาได้ทำการปรับตั้งค่าภาษาไทยมาให้เราเรียบร้อยแล้วโดยที่เราไม่ต้องไปปรับเรื่องภาษาไทยให้เสียเวลาแบบเวอร์ชั่นก่อนๆ (ตอนแรกก็จะได้ใช้ในเวอร์ชั่น 3.0.1 แล้วละ แต่ส่งตัวแก้ไขไม่ทันเลยได้ใช้ในเวอร์ชั่น 3.0.2 แทน) :P

ตัวเลือกเป็นภาษาไทย เข้าใจง่าย ตั้งค่าง่าย

FireFox 3.0.2 ตั้งค่าภาษาให้เราเรียบร้อยแล้วสังเกตุได้จากฟอนต์ที่ใช้ใน IE น่ะครับ

     หน้าตาจะยังเหมือน 3.0.1 น่ะครับ แต่เท่าที่ลองเล่นมาใช้ง่ายและแถบไม่พบBugเกี่ยวกับภาษาไทยเลยละครับ นับว่าเป็นเว็บ browser ที่เข้าใจง่ายที่สุดสำหรับคนที่ไม่เคยเล่นมาก่อนเลยน่ะครับ(ด้วยที่ว่าหัวข้อ และชื่อเมนูต่างๆ เป็นภาษาไทย จึงเข้าใจง่ายในการใช้งาน)

Pero no todos los usuarios pueden estar contentos con estas características y en MozillaLinks nos dan algunas pistas para trastear modificando las preferencias de about:config.

• Cuando cierras Firefox, las descargas activas se detienen y reactivan cuando inicias de nuevo el navegador. Si quieres que no sea así puedes modificar la entrada browser.download.manager.quitBehavior y escribir 1 si quieres que las decsrgas se detengan pero no se reactiven automáticamente o 2 si deseas que se cancelen todas las descargas activas (¡ojo! no las podrás recuperar posteriormente)
• Otra de las mejoras del gestor de decargas es la barra de progreso que aparece en la barra de estado de l navegador. Es por ello por lo que a lo mejor no necesitas que el programa te avise cuando una descarga ha finalizado. Para desactivar esta opción modifica la entrada browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete con el valor false.
• Uno de los inconvenientes del gestor de descargas es que mantiene un registro permanente de ficheros descargados que tienes que borra manualmente mediante la opción Limpiar lista. Si quieres que el sistema lo haga por ti simplemente modifica la entrada browser.download.manager.retention con los valores 0, si quieres que se elimine la entrada del fichero descargado una vez completada la descarga, ó 1 , borrándose las entradas al cerrar del navegador on quit. Por defecto, la opción de este entrada es 2.

Dupa pornirea browserului aveti posibilitatea de a naviga incognito apasand Ctrl+Shift+N sau folosind meniul. Conform descrieirii acestei functii 'Navigarea in modul incognito nu permite ca informatiile despre site-urile Web pe care le-ati vizitat să fie memorate în Chrome. Site-urile Web pe care le vizitati pot avea insa inregistrari ale vizitei dvs. Fisierele salvate pe computer vor ramane totusi in computerul dvs.'

Chrome mai pune la dispozitia utilizatorilor un 'Manager de activitati', care poate fi accesat efectuand un click dreapta pe bara browserului si selectand 'Administrare activitati', si posibilitatea de a 'trage file din browser pentru a crea ferestre noi' sau pentru a cumula mai multe file intr-o singura fereastra.

Today I head back to College, I'm looking forward to it and my first class is at 1:30pm. But right now I'm kind of nervous, not really sure why that is I just am. My first class is Math and I've had this professor last Fall and I love their style of teaching. Plus I have no reason to be nervous about my second class either. Maybe it's because for the first time I'll be going to College with out my friends. My best friend as you guys know is up at UConn, my one friend isn't going back to school at all, and my other friend isn't going back to school till the Spring. I have one friend though who I haven't really spoken to in a while, in one of my classes. But still it's just not really the same you know? Yep I definitely think it's that!

I'm technically considered a Junior in College, but the school doesn't see it that way. They go by the amount of Credits you have. Myself and others happen to disagree with them. Plus I discovered that I could be done with RVCC by Spring 2010 which is what I'm shooting for! So yeah I would say I am. Anyways I hope I can just open up a bit and be myself when I'm at the College. For years I was comfortable with just sticking to my own friends and being shy on meeting others. I would also freeze up sometimes and not know what to say. This weekend though proved me other wise that I can talk to and become friends with just about anyone. So my own prayer for this week (wait a minute did I just say prayer?! Wow!) is that I'll just open up, be able to just walk up to some one, or some one would just be able to walk up to me and exchange words.

On a completely different topic Google released their Web Browser called Google Chrome. What's a Web Browser some of you might be asking? A Web Browser is a piece of software that you use to visit websites like facebook, mixx, myspace etc. Chance's are your either using Firefox 3, Opera, Safari or dare I say Internet Explorer 7 (shudders). Here's a screenshot of what Google Chrome looks like.

The Web Browser is very light weight, but it does use multiple resources for every tab you have open. A downside yes but for a website that will open faster then any browser it's something to sacrifice. You can create Web Application Shortcut's with the Browser. For example if you have a Gmail account you can click the Paper Icon and choose Creat Application Shortcut. It will then create a Gmail Icon on your desktop and you can now access Gmail with out typing in a web address. Clicking the Icon will launch Google Chrome and open Gmail right in front of you. Kind of cool in my opinion.

I would go into more detail about this but for now I'll just leave everyone with that taste of it and will cover more about it another time.

When the going get's tough whether it be with friendships, relationships, problems at your job etc. It can be really tough to keep your head up and think you can't continue on. So I wanted to share two things with everyone. One to reflect on and be encouraged by and another for just pure encouragement. I sent both out to another person for encouragement and to hopefully make light of things. So I'm hoping it will do the same for everyone else.

The first one comes from an email between Tom Kang and I. I won't go into details behind the email but there was something he said that just made me go "Wow!". He said...

" It's tough bro - killer actually - when people misinterpret/misunderstand your heart.  But it's just like this conversation I was having with someone earlier this week ~ how/why should we expect anything less than misinterpretation and misunderstanding for our good when Christ, Himself, experienced the same and more?  Ya know what I'm saying?  I mean if any had TOTALLY good intentions and actions it was Jesus.  Yet where did that get him?  Well let's see, his closest friends deserted him, his family did not understand him, and the people killed him.  Yikes.  So here's a fact: no matter how much good your intentions or actions...there will always be opposition and misunderstanding.  Fact #2: Don't let it stop you from doing what's right.  RIght?  I mean think of what would've happened if at any one of the points - Jesus hurt, even devastated, even frustrated by all the gross misunderstanding and accusations, etc. decided to just drop the whole thing or go negative?  GULP!  =P  I know you know what I'm sayin bro!  ; D "

Still I can't even imagine what things would be like if Jesus had just said "I give up you guys are on your own!". I really hope this helps some one. Also  a small side note to Tom. If you'd like me to remove any part of that please let me know man!

Now for the second quote it comes from a movie. Something that I believe applies to everyone. It comes from Batman Begins when Bruce Wayne aka Batman is struggling with decisions, and much more. His Butler Alfred said the following...

" Why do we fall, sir? So that we might learn to pick ourselves up. "

I don't know about anyone else. But there have been many many times where I feel like I want to give up because I disappointed some one, I failed at something, or well just as Alfred said, because we have fallen when we messed up. It's through those times I think we grow the most and it certainly teaches us something and we learn from it. Even if we don't get it right the first time, second time or even the third time it doesn't mean were bad people, it means were human. Were not perfect and we never will be. The only person who is, is Jesus. So if something get's you down or you mess up on/in something just remember that quote.

I hope this really helps some of you, or just random people who come across my blog. There's nothing more that makes me feel happy inside then knowing I made a difference or encouraged some one by something I said, or a quote I posted.

6. Web applications like GMail works quicker. Hotmail is yet to recognize the browser and shows up a warning saying that the browser may be incompatible and proceeds to the classic version - which seems pretty fast as well.

With Google's entry into the browser market, the war is expected just to get bigger and the competition much more intense! Conclusively, whatever results from this, eventually benefits the consumer. :)

Moreover, Google uses Webkit framework for building Chrome and better yet, it is open source; making way for further rapid updates!

Esto es particularmente útil ya que muchos sitios podrían optar por eludir las autoridades de certificación, pasando por el menos costoso self-signed certificates en su lugar. Por desgracia, esto tendrá como resultado la generación de un mensaje de error en Firefox que conducirá inevitablemente a los usuarios a aceptar ciegamente los certificados con escasa consideración de autenticidad.

Dave Andersen, un profesor de ciencias de la computación en dicha Universidad, y un asesor del proyecto Perspective señaló, "El temor es que la política de Firefox va a obligar a algunos sitios con a utilizar autoridades de certificación, sino que hará que otros no usen ninguna seguridad."

Con Perspective instalado, el usuario es enviado directamente a un sitio auto-firmado si el registro histórico coincide. De lo contrario, el navegador mostrará una advertencia a la Web del surfista diciendole que el sitio es sospechoso.
