As near a perfect movie as you're ever gonna find.  Disturbia was an entertaining enough, if obvious romp on RW's plot, but you youngsters shouldn't mistake thinking it's in anywhere near the same class as "Hitchcock's suspense masterpiece."

p.s. -  I will build a time machine and marry Grace Kelly, no two ways about it.

Grace in Time - Mementos from the life of Grace Kelly go on show

Two years ago, construction tycoon Vladimir Seminikhin was one of the first Russian art collectors to step forward and open up his own gallery space, The Yekaterina Foundation. Since then the gallery has become well known on the art circuit for holding quality exhibitions, ranging in style from Socialist Realism to Russian contemporary art. 

This week, a different type of exhibition opens to the public, showing clothes, films and photographs of Grace Kelly, movie star and princess. A larger version of the exhibition opened in Monaco last year and has since toured the world. 

"People in Russia don't really know her as an icon of Hollywood," said Seminikhin in a telephone interview from his residence in Monaco. "They know her as royalty but that is usually it."

Kelly made her film debut in 1951 but did not become a household name until she starred with Clark Gable in the romantic adventure film "Mogambo." She became a household name after she caught the eye of Alfred Hitchcock and starred in several of his films. In 1955 she met Prince Rainer of Monaco briefly at a reception in Cannes. The next time he was in America he courted her and a whirlwind engagement followed. In April 1956, she became Her Serene Highness the Princess of Monaco. She died from injuries sustained in a car accident in 1982. 

Last year, 25 years after her death, an exhibition was held at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco with many objects chosen personally by her son, Prince Albert.

"After she died Prince Rainer treated objects that she touched, forks she ate with, as if they were religious relics. He wouldn't let anyone else look at them," Seminikhin said. "But Prince Albert thought it was important to show his mother in a personal light, and was always interested in showing these items off." 

When Kelly became a princess, she was already established as one of Hollywood's most famous actresses. She had starred in three Alfred Hitchcock films: "Dial M for Murder," "To Catch a Thief" and "Rear Window," and she won an Oscar for her role in the film "The Country Girl." Her duty as a princess stopped her from acting, and there was an outcry in Monaco when she accepted the lead role in Hitchcock film "Marnie" in 1962, which forced her to ultimately reject it.  

In a letter to Hitchcock declining the part, Kelly wrote: "I hate to disappoint you. … I also hate the fact that there are probably many other 'cattle' who could play the part equally as well. Despite that, I hope to remain one of your 'sacred cows.'"
One of the films to be shown at the exhibition is a video that Kelly made of her children when they were young. It is said that she used Hitchcockian techniques to make these home videos. 
Kelly was renowned for her dress sense. The dress she wore to the Oscars when she won the best actress award in 1955, a blue satin column dress with spaghetti straps and matching cloak, is on display. Designed by Edith Head, who made Kelly's costumes for the Hitchcock films, the dress was voted as one of the best Oscar outfits of all time. 

Other items shown are photographs, letters and jewelry. These include her engagement ring made out of emerald and diamond. 
Seminikhin and his family live in Monaco and are trying to hold cross-cultural events between the two countries. They exhibited the Knave of Diamonds in Monaco in 2004, and next year plan to hold exhibitions in Moscow and Monaco celebrating a century of the Diaghilev Seasons.

capítulo 1 - cai no youtube um video sem noção

mas que novidade hein? rs, no video logo abaixo uma biluzinha muito delicious apelidada de "grace kelly" pede à amiga amapô que adivinhe onde esteve "ontche". a resposta eu nunca consegui entender direito, mas é um troço tão interessante, genial e abalatchivo que eu tive que trazer pra cá. vejam:

capítulo 2 - fenômeno, imitações, conspiração e paranóia

o vídeo em pouco tempo virou sensação no youtube e agora tá todo mundo fazendo todo tipo de reencenação do diálogo. cada uma mais... ehr... interessante que a outra. as minhas preferidas são justamente as que tão no papelpop. essas duas logo abaixo. vejam. sério.

nessa aqui o destaque é para a menina que interpreta a "abalatchiva" da história. olha a intimidade que ela têm com a câmera, olha o desprendimento, olha a.............. seria a futura maísa?

já nesse video o rapaz resolveu fazer uma dublagem e, se é que é possível, conseguiu ficar ainda mais "abalatchiva" que a grace kelly. o destaque é pro poster de hedwig na parede e pela "egípcia" no final. tudo muito fino e elegante.

Cac do Rangel é um clube de periferia, onde toca axé, forró, dance e funk. Mal visto, mas até as bichas mais finas da orla nobre passam por lá pois no meio sempre se encontra um garoto gostosinho (as vezes um “traficanti”)doido pra dar um rolé na praia e lanchar no McDonalds! Cerveja barata, é muito bom fazer os passinhos das danças com os locais!

Es muss kurz vor den Ferien gewesen sein. Zu solchen Zeiten versuchen die Lehrer immer, die Stunden irgendwie um die Runden zu bringen (das dachte ich damals freilich noch nicht, das ist mir erst heute klar, nachdem ich über zwei Jahre selber unterrichtet habe). Er brachte seinen Filmprojetor mit und fragte, ob wir High Noon kennen würden mit Gary Cooper. Ich auf jeden Fall kannte ihn nicht.

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, aber ich glaube der Film war gekürzt. Das tut aber auch nichts zur Sache. Ich erlebte den Film als sehr, sehr spannend. Ich zitterte und  bangte mit dem Helden mit und war erleichtert, als er es dann doch überlebte.

Später, ich war schon mit Susanne zusammen habe ich mir dann die Frage gestellt, wieso dieser Film eigentlich so spannend ist. Rambo z. B. nimmt es mit ganzen Armeen auf auf der Film erreicht nicht den Bruchteil der Spannung, so wie ihn High Noon aufbaut.

Hier, an diesem Film kann man exemplarisch den Einfluss von Optimismus und Pessimismus studieren. Rambo, genauso wie Superman, Spiderman oder Batman oder auch James Bond sind Superhelden. Wenn Sie heute in einen neuen James Bond Film gehen, dann wissen sie sicher, dass James Bond diesen Film überleben wird.

Anders Sheriff Kane. Er ist kein Superheld. Ihm geht es besch... Er hat Angst. Kurz vor dem Duell weint er, er macht sein Testament und sucht Hilfe, wo er sie kriegen kann. Dieser Pessimismus wirkt so ansteckend, dass der Zuseher nicht anders kann als mitzuzittern und er ist überzeugt, dass Sheriff Kane diesen Tag nicht überleben wird. Auch die Dorfbewohner sind überzeugt, dass der Sheriff sterben wird.

Wenn Sie das nächste Mal glauben, dass alles nur schlecht ist, das alles garantiert schlecht ausgehen wird, dann denken Sie an High Noon und versuchen Sie ihr denken zu ändern, dann geht nämlich alles viel leichter.

Wer Lust hat, kann sich jetzt noch den Anfang des berühmten Western mit dem ebenso berühmten Lied gesungen von Tex Ritter anhören. Viel Spaß!

North Bedford Drive. Cinco de la tarde. El taxi se acerca al número 505. El sol de California y los corridos mexicanos que saturan el aire sofocante me trasladan por un momento mucho más al sur, o a un pasado en el que las lujosas avenidas de Beverly Hills, con sus abigarradas mansiones, sus escaparates protegidos por alarmas y sus palmeras milimétricamente alineadas no eran más que resecas llanuras robadas a los indios por los españoles y vueltas a robar por los yanquis a los mexicanos para su América de privilegiados.

505. Iglesia del Buen Pastor. Nada que ver con las bellas misiones españolas del área de San Francisco, una vulgar imitación del estilo hispánico colonial hecha de ladrillo pero sin armonía ni gracia alguna, como casi todo lo que lo que se intenta emular en esta tierra, reino de la improvisación, de lo inmediato, de lo perecedero, de lo olvidable. Enfrente del templo pienso en no hace tanto tiempo, cuando a los cómicos muertos se les negaba la sepultura en suelo santo, como a los infieles o a los suicidas. “Infiel o suicida”, hermosos cumplidos con los que la Iglesia ha obsequiado a los cómicos durante siglos, una Iglesia paleta e inculta que reniega de su propia creación, la comedia y el drama al servicio de la representación de dogmas con los que adoctrinar a sus rebaños. Si para ella todos somos hijos de Dios, los cómicos son los hijos repudiados de la Iglesia.

"Con perricas, chifletes", decimos en Aragón. O como dicen los árabes, de forma mucho más poética,”al perro que tiene dinero, se le llama Señor Perro”. Mientras en muchos lugares del planeta los cómicos seguían siendo marginados, en Hollywood se les levantaba un templo para sus bautizos, sus matrimonios, sus funerales. Da igual que bautizaran hijos “ilegítimos”, que sus rápidos matrimonios fueran vertiginosos divorcios, que sus funerales una redención puramente formal de una vida rica en pecados. Para el Buen Pastor eso no importa mientras se pague el oficio. También se deja usar como plató si se paga por ello. Paradoja: en una película que se titula Ha nacido una estrella se usa el Buen Pastor como escenario para un funeral.

Rodolfo Valentino o Bing Crosby venían a escuchar misa y a comulgar aquí cada domingo después de pecar cada sábado. Elizabeth Taylor se casó ante su altar una de sus ocho veces, para divorciarse un cuarto de hora después. Loretta Young o Rod Stewart aprendieron de ella y la imitaron. Gary Cooper no quiso perderse el mundo de ventajas que ofrece un Buen Pastor que todo lo perdona si hay dinero de por medio. Se convirtió a su fe antes de morir y quiso que su funeral fuera aquí, como el de Valentino.

El día que enterramos a Valentino, allá por 1926, las calles eran un hervidero, y entre la gente normal que lo veneraba se apretujaban Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd o la exótica Pola Negri. No hubo una concentración humana tan enorme y tan distinguida en los alrededores del Buen Pastor hasta que murió Sinatra, otro habitual del local al que se le perdonaba todo cuando sacaba a pasear la cartera. El día del funeral de Sinatra todos estaban aquí. Todos. Ni los funerales de Rita Hayworth, Carmen Miranda, Vincente Minelli, Jean Renoir ni Alfred Hitchcock reunieron a tanta gente. Pobre Renoir. El día que murió ni un alma acudió al Buen Pastor. La semana siguiente, en el funeral de Hitchcock, la policía acordonaba la zona y la prensa debía acudir acreditada para no perderse su entrada en el infierno. Porque si allí es donde van quienes hacen cine, Hitchcock además debió ingresar como cliente distinguido.

El Buen Pastor disculpa el pecado y predispone para él. El Buen Pastor expulsó a los mercaderes del Templo, pero los readmitió en menos de lo que tarda en divorciarse Elizabeth Taylor. Entrada, veinte dólares. Los cómicos siguen sin ser acogidos, salvo que también sean mercaderes. Por eso van al infierno. Bendito infierno al que querría acompañarles y compartir eternidad con Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman... Grace Kelly no. Ella pertenece a un infierno rosado. Aunque se pasa por el infierno del cine de vez en cuando, dicen.

Cuando me toque el turno, quiero ir al infierno de Hollywood, con todos sus ilustres habitantes, pecadores todos por ser cómicos, infieles y suicidas, como yo. Quiero usar la entrada del Buen Pastor. El propio funeral allí es la única forma de entrar sin pagar veinte dólares.

Vuelvo a mi taxi. Le digo al conductor que pare en el primer bar, un local en un sótano. Ya no hay sol ni corridos mexicanos, sólo un frío helador y una guitarra de blues.

For the longest time I wondered why Marshall Kane, the good guy, is dressed in black while Frank Miller, the bad guy, was dressed in white. I was perplexed as to how to explain such a blatant misuse of an archetype: good=white, black=bad. (I mean that strictly in the context of movies and art, not in terms of race. I mean, seriously, without blues, most music today would suck.) I thought it was to illustrate that in the old west, everything becomes backwards, even with a Marshall willing to enforce the law. Now I realize that they did it to illustrate that, under societal forces, even the law can become the villain (shout out to everybody's favorite senator, Senator McCarthy).

While Kane is doing exactly what needs to be done, what is legal, righteous, etc, Miller has the town's support. No one is willing to stand up against Miller because they don't want to harm themselves. Essentially, Miller has their approval to kill Kane and Kane stands in the wrong. Losing one Marshall would be better than standing up for what they believe in and losing a couple men with families. They see the injustice at hand--simply the injustice of a gun battle ruining their town's reputation--and that if they get involved, they become a member of the guilty party. Thus, Miller and his boys are dressed as the people in the right and Kane is chased down and hunted as the offender.

I don't really understand how For a Few Dollars More helped me understand that other than the fact that it got me to thinking about how awesome A Fistful of Dollars was. That, in turn, made me realize that Once Upon a Time in the West was probably as close as one could get to a perfect western, which got me thinking about High Noon because it probably is the perfect western.

Therefore, without having seen High Noon in at least a year or two, a Spaghetti western convinced me that the best western I have seen was made in America. Also, Grace Kelly is crazy hot.

Do what has to be done.
