Not a recent publication by any stretch of the imagination, but I've taken a shine to Aurum, this book is so Vault and there can never be enough glampunk in the world - let's give 'em a plug!

Jeremy Novick & Mick Middles - Wham Bam Thank You Glam: A Celebration of The '70's (Aurum, 1998).

blurb

Come On, Come On, Come
On, Come On, Come On,
Come On, Come On...
I SAID!

From A-line flares to Zebedee. from David Cassidy to the Austin Princess Vanden Plas. Wham Bam Thank You Glam is the first, the last, the everything you'll ever need to remember those halcyon days of the 70s when men wore cheesecloth and women teetered on six-inch platforms.
This is more than just a celebration of Glam music (although there's lots of that in here). this is a celebration of the whole glorious shebang - the clothes! the telly! the cars! the football! the sweeties: All recalled in fantastic dayglo shades of poptastic colour by some the real heroes of Glam.

All that Glitters is not gold - it could be Bacofoil - but it is exciting. The years between 1969 and 1976 (Punk year zero) were a riot of colour, humour, funny clothes, flash cars, weird sweeties and bizarre telly. People really did wear sea-green forty-inch flares and silver six-inch platforms while swigging a lime Crests and sitting in a bright yellow Ford Capri Mk I - and they weren't all members of Mud or Paper Lace. The Glam years were strangely naive, yet widely debauched, the music was a brash over-played version of rock'n'roll with big drums and daft lyrics, the fashion tried to make bricklayers built like outhouses look like Quentin Crisp. Yes, it was a lot of fun, as our guides to the Glam years will testify within these pages.

- in the immortal words of that cool white bear:
'It's frothy, man!'

"Glam Music can be broken up into three distinct groups. The Chinnichap merchants, the Teenyboppers and the Geezers who just happened to be there ..." - oversimplifying matters, perhaps - what about Bowie, Roxy, Marc, Mael bro's, Iggy, Lou, Dolls and all the other space invaders from planet art? - but not a million miles wide of the truth.

This book is like the Bible or something. For example, there's a top interview with the much-missed Brian Connolly of the Sweet in which he answers all the big ones. Which bands did the glam rockers' really look up to? How did Sweet get on with their rivals? Who were the biggest copycats? What did Bri think of the Damned covering Teenage Rampage and punk in general? Ex-Man City bruiser Mike Summerbee is a revelation with his look at Football, Beer And Lots Of Girls: George Best And The Roots Of Glam. Dee Dee Wilde recalls her years in the lingerie catalogue come to life that was Pans People - "For a young girl it was the best job in the world". The Glam Telly featured includes Jason King, The Sweeney, On The Buses (!!!!!!!?) and Man About The House while a 'What's on at the movies' feature wisely concentrates on good old fashioned Brit smut like Come Play With Me, the Confessions ... and the racier Carry On's. In the A-Z of Glam who should we find under 'R' but Richard Allen (the cover of whose Glam is also given some prominence in the literary dept though, understandably, not as much as Pop Swap).

It's not perfect. For example, I've not found any mention of Dana Gillespie as yet, and she was just about the glammest person going in 1974 as the gratuitous use of above pic ably demonstrates, although on the plus side, Kenny's risible Do The Bump doesn't trouble the all-time Glam Top 20 chart so you're laughing really.

For more glampunk, see the Vault of Evil forum's ghastly rock & roll section.

In hopes of bringing some warmer temps to Portland, I am going to devote this posting to my thought

In hopes of bringing some warmer temps to Portland, I am going to devote this posting to my thoughts on shorts. Those of you who are of the faint of heart, beware, this may be a bit harsh. I have very specific rules on how shorts should be worn. I don't think that anyone is forbidden to wear shorts, but I definitely DON'T believe that EVERYONE can wear ALL types of shorts. Pay attention to your body type, people! So often shorts are the one piece of clothing that can cause a person to lose all self-respect.

For ease of reading, I'm going to break this down by style.

Short Shorts, aka hotpants

I really have a problem with the short shorts, and it's not so much because I can't wear them. Well, I guess I could, but that would result in me ending up in Glamour Magazine's section of what not to wear with my eyes blacked out. And I don't want that. Anyway, getting back to short shorts. I honestly think that the only appropriate time/place to wear these is A.) On a farm in rural mississippi where it's like, 100 degrees, or B.) in the privacy of your own home. And I stress the word PRIVACY, or C.) if you are on a dance team.

I cringe at the sight of women my age or older (meaning late 20s into their 30s) walking down the street with the shortest of all shorts on. Sure, you may turn a few guys' heads, but honestly, you just look like a hussy, and all you are presenting yourself as is a piece of meat. Even if you can pull it off, it's just a serious sign of not wanting to grow up. You know, though, I find it hard to accept teenagers and young women wearing them in public places. It just invites unwanted attention to a girl who is too young to experience it. But that opens up a whole other blog about ethics and stuff.

Simply stated, stay away from hotpants unless you are a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader or you are lazing on your own couch. Keep it off the streets.

Bermudas

Ok people, let me just make this clear...I am NOT talking about jams. Jams are just a horrible nightmare from the 80s and 90s that sometimes make their way back into fashions for reasons that are beyond me. That said, I think that bermuda shorts are wonderful. They offer us girls who maybe don't have the athletic legs of a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader to not die in the summer heat. They are also a great, office-appropriate choice for those hot days in the workplace! Paired with a billowy blouse or a camisole and a cardigan sweater, it's a cool yet professional option.

Be careful, though, when selecting sizes and colors. If you are a bit bigger on the bottom, make sure you buy your shorts so that your legs fit comfortably in them. Meaning: give yourself a little extra room! You don't want to look like a sausage. Also, for you curvy girls like me, a solid color on the bottom will be much more slimming than a busy pattern. You can draw the eye upward with a patterned blouse that is a little more flowy, resulting in a really cute, really classy shorts outfit.

As much as you don't want to buy your shorts too tight-when it comes to bermudas, you don't want them to be too loose either. Otherwise, they'll end up looking like, you guessed it...jams. A nice slim fit that doesn't feel like it's squeezing is really what you want.

These shorts from Victoria's Secret are a great work option. With a little bit of stretch in them, they are comfortable and flattering. Pairing them with a feminine blouse and a vest is a great way to keep them looking girly yet strong.

Another great option from Victorias Secret. When in doubt-keep it simple. Nothing spells a better summer outfit than a simple tank, bermudas, and sandals!

Cargo Shorts

A great, casual option for summer, inspired by the whole safari trend! Cargo shorts are practical and can be made to be just feminine enough, as demonstrated here by these at Victoria's Secret. Paired with a fitted tank and a cardigan, you have a very versatile outfit, perfect for sightseeing or walking on the beach!

Be careful with the cargos, though, because if you buy them too big or too long, you end up looking like a dude. Keep them slightly baggy so they don't pull across your thighs, and mid thigh is a great, flattering length. I'm a big fan of the ones at Old Navy because they are flattering for everyone, and they have a variety of sizes.

These have a 10" inseam, so they should hit right at mid-thigh. A flattering length for just about anyone.

Ok. I think that's just enough about shorts for now. Remember, anyone can wear shorts, it's just picking out the styles that flatter you the most. Don't be hung up on sizes, either. Pay attention to fit-it just may turn out that buying the next size up will slim you down more than trying to squeeze into that smaller size.

That said, go crazy-have fun and enjoy summer!

Kerry Courtina - The party Queen of Liverpool - here with some important information.

Did you know that new laws are being passed which force us girls to wear pants every Thursday? The UK government are sick to their back teeth of us girls showing leg, so they've decided to make legs illegal on Thursdays.

You'll be as outraged as me. But there's a good reason for this. EU laws state that the skin to clothes ratios on legs must never go more than 2:1 across the population in favour of skin. The men are quite safe with their ratio, but thanks to shorter skirts and hotpants us girls are breaking the law, so the government have had to act. Blame the prudes in belgium, girls!

So girls, we're just going to have to grin and bare this one - the law is the law. But it's not all take. The government have also introduced "Flash your knickers Friday". It's a day where all us girls can lift our skirts up and flash people. Now you've got to be wearing undies! But it'll still be fun. I know i'll be flashing my knickers like Crazy!!! I'll be wearing my best knickers too!

So Remember girls. From June 2008 you've got to wear pants on Thursdays. But on Friday's it's flash your knickers day! Respect the new laws, I know I will be.

Now I'm going to go and party, but in practice for the new laws, i'll be wearing pants. Tomorrow though, i'll be flashing my knickers like a prize whore!

Bye Girls!

I'm getting fed up with not being able to run, so this morning I decided to dig out my "Hot pants workout" DVD.

Does my bum look like this...no. Will my bum ever look like this....I doubt it very much. But I did feel like I've exercised and I was proper squealing and moaning trying to keep up with the abs part (oh the shame..."thanks for the Mothers Day chocolates kids" ... I couldn't keep up and had to pause to give my muscles a break....several times).

I'm going to try and do the workout every day this week. I feel like a complete div flouncing around in my living room, as some hyped up American dancer bloke, gives me some false hope that I'm going to have a bum like Kylie Minogues. Pah!

I'd much rather be out running in the woods getting muddy and rained on.

Veramente lodevole come iniziativa...

Some people will say they are freegan and thus can eat cake at a party if someone offers it to them, or can steal non-vegan food from the grocery store. Personally I think those examples are kind of cop outs. I’m not comfortable with eating cheese at a party just because it is technically ‘free’. And I don’t think I understand the economics of it enough to be comfortable with stealing milk from a store. I would be worried that those actions still contribute to the economies which exploit animals. For me, FREEGAN means I eat some non-vegan things if they are in the trash. So dumpster diving I eat non-vegan food. But I cannot stomach pure dairy or meat. I do not eat eggs, milk, cheese, or corpses from a dumpster. Because while these are technically freegan, I think my stomach has gone long enough without digesting them that it would be quite unhappy. I generally only consume non-vegan things in the guise of baked goods such as Krispy Kreme donuts and Panera’s chocolate raspberry cake. because, secondary to my animal liberation stance is my belief that consuming dairy and meat is not healthy. By limiting what I eat as a freegan I am limiting my consumption of gross food. And I don’t really think I take it far enough yet. I have recently been considering a total break with corn syrup and sugar. They do not ever make my body feel good. But it is also going to take me some time to break away from them I think. So far I have stopped drinking soda and putting sugar

<!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --in my coffee, which at leasts cuts back on my consumption of crap. Freegan can be a way to get away with eating the excesses of a civilization which is not only cruel, but also wasteful, even if these excesses are not necessarily good for you. I’m not knocking freegan, but personally I’m working on realizing that just because I CAN get away with eating a whole freaking bag of krispy kremes. doesn’t mean it is a good idea.

My friend James has this really good way of putting the whole ‘personal hygiene’ issue. He says, that when people cover up their natural body smells -with deodorant, perfume, cologne, whatever- they are being liars. Liars. That attitude is what helps me remember why I do not wear deodorant or perfume or nothin. Cause it sucks when everybody crinkles their nose in your presence and makes comments about the way you smell. But, it just sucks for them that they insist on not only being dishonest about what they smell like, but for PAYING THE CAPITALISTS for the privilege of lying. A lot of the whole personal hygiene campaign seems directly tied to attempts at convincing people that they need to consume certain products in order to be ‘cool’ or ‘good’ or ‘sexy’ and ‘attractive’. That is a bunch of LIES. I think it is hot when people smell like themselves, and gross when they smell like something that comes from a bottle. The unique scents that people have are attractive. I remember personal scents, long after a person leaves. A bandanna, or piece of clothing can remind me of the smell of them. That smell becomes associated with everything about them. When a lover is gone, the pillow that smells like them is a nice reminder. So add it to the list of things which we have to be brave enough and strong enough to stand up

against- social norms about what it means to be ‘clean’ or ‘hygienic’. Stand strong against the pressure to use deodorant or perfume or any other sort of capitalist product which likely does more harm to your physical body than good, and which turns you into a liar.

Why I Workout:

For a lot of people who are not normal people (yes, this means you, you crazy anarchist, vegan, transient, queer, atheist, radical, whathaveyou) working out and exercise in general have this huge Jock stigma. I think that at least some of this stems from high school experiences with who does sports, and what they are like. It even carries into the real world. A lot of the people you encounter through sports and exercise are blatantly not radical. They might even be obnoxiously Christian/capitalist/racist/sexist/homophobic etc. However, it is short sighted to let a whole bunch of fools ruin an entire aspect of our lives for us. This article is my attempt to encourage radicals to get physical in the athletic sense. I propose an alternative to status quo athletic attitudes. Why drop out of the sporting world, when we can adapt it to suit ourselves?

So why do I work out? Right now, the focus is on one word: Bruno. Might not make much sense to you off the bat until you consider this; Bruno is the name of a cop at Hampshire College, a cop who wrote me up last year. So I work out to be better than Bruno. I work out to run faster than him, lift heavier than him, be able to beat him if that becomes necessary. It is a psychological game I play with myself. I would acknowledge that it is not necessarily healthy to change your behavior based around one person- particularly a cop, but if you can take a negative aspect of your life and turn it around into motivation for a positive behavior then that rocks. Bruno for me, is really just a face to put on the whole oppressive structure of the state and capitalism.

There are other really good reasons to exercise, that are particularly relevant to activists. Exercise RELIEVES STRESS- which is undeniably important for activists. To live in a world full of problems and know about the problems and be constantly trying to improve oneself and the outside world as well as accomplish everyday survival tasks (procuring food, shelter etc.) adds up to a lot of pressure. Many activists do not give themselves the appropriate outlets for their stress and do not give themselves enough personal time to take care of themselves. Exercise can help activists relief stress, and it does not have to take very much time.

Along with relieving stress in general goes that exercise is good for mental health. It has been shown that exercise helps people cope with depression and other mental issues. I’m not into taking pills or medicine, and so it is really helpful to have a homeopathic way to deal with mental issues. Even if it is not enough to completely control your mental issues, exercise can certainly help. Sometimes just the fact that it gets you outside, or to a gym environment where other people are working out, can be enough to jolt you out of a depressed moment.

Even though your memories of exercise in high school gym classes might not be positive, it can be very empowering. I have some days where even if a lot of other things do not come through, at the end of the day I can feel like I accomplished something because I ran a couple miles, or made it to the gym and did some reps. When your real life struggles can be insurmountable it is good to have an outlet which provides you with attainable goals.

Exercise builds confidence, which will positively affect other areas of your life. The endorphins and physical movement and accomplishment of goals all help you to feel good about yourself. You should not set goals for exercise that are too crazy. Some government agency or something recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day. So try to do this, even if it is lowkey exercise. Then you can check it off your to-do list or whatever, and know that you did it. As you continue you will find yourself accomplishing more and getting better. Do not be too hard on yourself though. There is no point in getting mad at yourself if you do not perform as well as you had hoped. Don’t forget to consider all of the factors that can play into how your body feels. What you have had to drink, to eat, how much you slept, if you are sore from a previous workout, if your head just isn’t in the game- these all contribute to your performance. It is ok to run slowly, or cut your exercise short if you just are not feeling it.

For me an important part of exercise has to do with Personal Safety. I have always felt that it was necessary for me to be strong in order to be safe. I want to feel capable, and I want to know that I can to some extent protect myself. Not everyone is capable of doing so, and that is ok. And I acknowledge the naivety within the idea of physical strength being able to keep one ‘safe’. For me, despite its limitations, it is still important. There are different ways to go about thinking of exercise in terms of personal safety. There are specific ways to combine exercise and personal safety. I just took a class called Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). This class is pretty neat because it teaches women some really basic but vital things they should know about self defense. I know that there are other versions of self defense courses offered all over, some of them catering specifically to certain groups of people. I want to get into Juijitsu, because I hear it helps even physically smaller people find ways to deal with physical confrontations.

In this discussion about exercise and physical issues I think there needs to be an Acknowledgement of ablism. There is definitely some ableism inherent in my interpretations of what it means to be strong. I have been trying to work on this though. I think that a discussion about the benefits of exercise does not have to be ableist though. There are many different ways of getting exercise that are available for people of different abilities. You do not have to be a marathon runner to benefit from physical activity. Even people confined to wheel chairs can find ways to exercise. Of course, what exercises are appropriate depends on one’s disability, but arm lifts, weight reps with the arms, using a ball with arms etc. are all things people in wheelchairs can do. Aqua sports are also a more accessible type of exercise- many YMCAs and gyms offer aqua aerobics and classes for people with joint and weight problems. Working out in the water is low impact and help a lot of differently abled people get exercise. I have read that exercise can be even more important for a person with any sort of disability- simply because there is a lot of frustration, anger, and depression that goes along with having a disability in a world that does not make it easy to get around. So the benefits of exercise which help to relieve depression and anger are even more important.

There are many things we can do to make different types of exercise more accessible to radical folks. If you already exercise, or want to start, try to get some of your friends to go with you. Start a radical running group- or get together for yoga a couple mornings a week. If you can afford to join a gym, take the time to maybe look at a couple different places to make sure you will be comfortable in the environment before you sign up. No point paying if you won’t go. If you are low income you may find a YMCA that makes itself very

 affordable.

Try to get games going with your friends. Even if it is just tag or capture the flag, having fun with physical activity is important. You might be able to get a weekly or monthly casual soccer game going. Wiffle ball is another sport that is fun and people often are willing to play. Exercise and games can be incorporated into activism. You can use a game in reclaiming the streets- capture the flag over a couple city blocks, soccer in the street etc.

In terms of gear, it is important to some extent to have the right gear for the right job, but also important not to think you have to have a bunch of super expensive and fancy gear to exercise. Don’t let that be a barrier to your participation. You will likely want white socks (if I recall correctly colored socks cause more athletes foot?). Sports Bras are available at thrift stores, as are the types of shorts and shirts which do not limit movement so much. I will admit, I don’t know anything about jock straps. Even tennis shoes (not converse, please, you want support and padding), cleats, and protective pads can be found at thrift stores. My friend Pablo has exquisite luck at dumpstering running shoes. And you really really want a water bottle.

If you join a gym or whatever, you might check out the lost and found for useful gear. Not that you should necessarily take everything you see there, but if you notice something being there for over a week, and you will use it, why not ‘find’ it.

This is an article I wrote on Curtis J. Holt Sr. for Issue # 2 of my zine Cuddle Puddles and Hot Pants. I figured I should publish this stuff online too so more people can read it.

The Civil Rights era is a time period that continues to interest me, and specifically as related to my hometown of Richmond, Virginia. In an attempt to expose other people to this amazing and under represented history I am going to reproduce the history of Curtis J. Holt Sr., who was an African American civil rights activist in Richmond. Most of the information I have about him comes from the book, Rights for a Season: The Politics of Race, Class, and Gender in Richmond, Virginia by Lewis A. Randolph and Gayle T. Tate. - copyright 2003. Assume all cites with page numbers refer to this book unless otherwise noted. There is a lot more awesome information in this book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone trying to learn a more complete history of Richmond or just as an example of how much history is left out of standard accounts.

Curtis J. Holt Sr. was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 1920. He was one of eight children in a relatively poor family. His father was a farmer, but when Curtis was 13, he died. His mother then moved the family to Richmond, Virginia in 1934 (193). Holt ended up starting working at a young age to support his family. He later married and had children. In 1941 he was injured at a construction job at Virginia Union University (VUU)(A historically black university). He was out of work for 3 years because of the injury. In 1963 he fell down an elevator shaft, causing another injury, which put him out of work for the long term, and on social security disability. His family and he then had to move into public housing. In Richmond, Public housing is controlled by the Richmond Housing Authority (RRHA). The way the the book analyzes it is that Holt’s impoverished background and his experience with work disability combined to create his affinity for activism (194). The experience of public housing increased his awareness of inequalities and activism, “During the mid-1950s, when Curtis Holt moved into Creighton Court, a public housing project, he quickly discovered that living conditions were poor and repressive for the tenants. For instance, the RRHA prohibited tenant organizations, and tenants could not meet on Creighton Court property.” (195). What was really important in Curtis Holt’s life it seems, was not stepping down from a fight. While he could have lived a life without confrontation, or taken his activism only to the point where he was told to stop, he continued to struggle. An example of this was his attempt to organize the tenants of Creighton Court into a tenant’s association in the mid-1960s. For this he received an eviction notice. However, the eviction notice stated that the reason for the eviction was unreported income on Holt’s part. Holt fought this and was proven to be in the right. His refusal to back down is inspiring.

In 1970 Holt became an ordained minister, and “Holt hoped to transform his faith into a vehicle of liberation” (194). Holt went to the March on Washington, and also met Martin Luther King Jr.. He became involved in the NAACP and RCV. I do not personally feel much affinity for Christianity, but particularly during the civil rights era, faith and religion fueled many people’s belief in a better future and their insistence for better treatment. It makes sense that pre-existing communities would be utilized in a social movement.

The policies of the RRHA were something which Holt acted against for many reasons. One of the policies, which was clearly intended to enforce a particular moral code, would not allow single female parents from living in public housing. Because of this, women who were single and became pregnant felt pressure to either have an abortion and lose the child or lose their home. He was clearly ahead of his time in terms of championing the right of a single parent female to control her reproductive rights and her sexuality without fear of losing her right to housing (197).

Understanding how awesome Holt was is tied into knowledge about the rest of the Civil Rights movement in Richmond- it reveals how exceptional he was. Politically it can become clear that people are made up of multiple identities, and any sort of social struggle has to account for these differences. Sometimes one identity may be more prominent, but it is an error to ignore the other issues. For instance, in the civil rights movement, largely about race, issues of class, sex, etc. were still prevalent. And in Richmond, and other places too, the middle class blacks (and males) dominated the civil rights movement, and class issues within the movement were not as noted as they could have been.

For Curtis Holt to be an activist around race issues, but also around class issues is exceptional because he managed to deal with issues that the mainstream movement did not want to confront. His activism in some ways also went past race barriers, and created some solidarity throughout class. “Curtis Holt emerged as a community bridge leader because when he attempted to organize poor whites in Richmond’s public housing, he was actually operating in what Robnett describes as ‘free spaces’ (1997, 21). According to Robnett, a free space is “a niche that is not directly controlled by formal leaders or those in their inner circle. It is an unclaimed space that is nevertheless central to the development of the movement, since linkages are developed within it’ (ibid). In essence, when Holt attempted to establish cross-racial class linkages among public housing residents in Richmond, not only was he operating in a free space, but he was also attempting to forge ties between poor blacks and whites in Richmond” (199).

An example of the way that the civil rights movement in Richmond was a bit classist is the focus it had around lunch counters and department stores. Much of the action and organizing surrounded the desegregation of lunch counters and department stores in the downtown of Richmond. What this failed to account for is that only a relatively small portion of the black population in Richmond could afford to use those amenities. “For instance, middle-class African Americans rarely rode public transportation; thus, they could avoid all the indignities associated with a segregated public transit system”(201). This sort of issue is something that could probably use further examination in all of our lives. To make sure that we understand why we are prioritizing what we are prioritizing and if that is a reflection of our privilege.

One the most awesome things in my mind that Holt did was work for the safety of the mostly black children who attended Armstrong School. This was a super direct action style activism on his part, which involved both dedication and bravery. “Curtis Holt’s concern about the safety of school-aged children crossing a dangerous intersection stemmed from his concern as a parent and his concern for the safety of all children. Mrs. Holt states that her husband took it upon himself to perform the role of a safety patrol, to escort the children to and from school across the dangerous intersection. Holt carried out his task by designing his own stop sign for oncoming drivers.” (197). He stepped in to fix the problem that the racist bureaucracy in Richmond refused to. “Because Holt’s action was not sanctioned by the city police, he risked his personal safety twice a day, five days a week, for three years to ensure the safety of these poor black children.” (198). This represents just some of the work that Holt did in the city of Richmond to improve life for the working class, poor, women, and people of color.

I've been looking to find zines written by straight edge people or just about reasons for not drinking/smoking/doing drugs. I really really like it when these issues are discussed in anarchist circles. I wish there was more crossover between the straight edge scene and the anarchist scene. A lot of straight edge kids are mainstream politically (or even conservative- like the anti-abortion hardcore kids) and I think that turns a lot of anarchists off of the idea of straightedge.

It is hard to be straightedge in anarchist and punk scenes. Most people don 't get it, I definitely catch a lot of shit for it, and it can be isolating. But another major issue is that even when people do get it and sympathize I still have to watch my friends do horrible things to their brains and bodies that are hurting them and their communities. It is sad, bottom line. ANd it makes me mad, but I trynot to yell at them because then they put me in the stereotype box of an angry unaccepting straight edge kid. Sorry for not wanting to see my friends a) get hurt, b) have emotional and mental issues, c) face addiction, d) turn into fuckwads who don't DO anything with their lives.

Some Zines I have seen so far that deal with substance abuse issues:

Towards a Less Fucked Up World

Ruff Sketch

Arson

I'm going to try to start carrying copies of straight edge zines if available, and I have also written briefly about it in CUddle Puddles and Hot Pants Issue #1, which is available at Approaching Apocalypse ZIne Distro (www.myspace.com/approachingapocalypse). The next issue should also contain a longer article about straightedge, drugs, and anarchists.
