Ja Rule ft. Ashanti - Always On Time

Ashanti ft. Ja Rule - Leaving (Always On Time Part II)

If you go back two years ago to this time, New York hip hop was in disarray. There were no new artists and Mase was chasing a he/she. It was then that Jay-Z came back to save NYC, and Nas said that it was dead. The only thing was, nobody was feeling Jay talking about how much money he had or that he was better than Cam'ron. The genre was falling, to make it worse, New York only had one new artist in Mims and nobody was feeling him either. Initially, no one felt like Mims had done anything besides hold them back, but he restored New York's pride. Then, Fabolous came out with his fourth album, From Nothin' To Somethin', the album featured three hit singles. It was Mims that got NY back on the radio, but it was Fab that kept us there. Due to this, many expected Jay-Z to pass the title down to him. Only, it seemed that Fab was lacking something. This is added to the fact that he is in his prime, but doesn't release albums every year, like Jay. Fabolous was expected to return with his fifth album this year, but it was pushed back to accomodate other Def Jam musicians. Because of this, other artists from New York City have stepped up. Mims once again held down the early/mid-2008 with the singles from his sophomore disc, More Than Meets the Eye. But, Memphis Bleek is determined to become a legend even if he kills him. He has a hit on the radio right now, and his buzz is bigger than that of Fabolous. Also, New York's biggest star earlier in the decade, Ja Rule, has two hit singles out. Everybody knows the old Ja Rule story and why he's considered a "new" artist. What is a "new" artist, someone who hasn't had a song out in a while. Memphis Bleek hadn't had a release since 2005, and Ja Rule since 2004. This whole time, people have said Fabolous has next, but they forget that Memphis Bleek is still very young and has a lot of time to get started. If you recall, Jay-Z was the same age that Memphis Bleek is now. He has a surefire hit waiting for an album to house it. When that song does find a proper album, I think that Bleek will become that fixture that Jay-Z always wanted him to be. On the other side, you have Ja Rule. He has had his share of shine. From 106 & Park's inception until 2003, Ja Rule constantly had a video on the countdown. He was that man, but he, like everyone else has enemies. That's when 50 Cent took over the rap game, and ended everybody on the wrong side. Ja tried to co-exist, and was doing a good job by late 2004. But, Ja's heart wasn't in it anymore after the experience, so he took some time off. He had planned to return in 2006, but the label wasn't acting right. In 2007, it was all good, but he and his label couldn't accept the fact that he wasn't as big of a star as he was before. This led to the album being pushed back to a 2008 release with no official date. He decided to go back into the studio and collaborate with the stars. He dropped a new song with Robin Thicke entitled, "Pushin It," and he also recorded some supporting songs, "Ladies," and "Something New" (possible follow-up singles). The only thing about these songs is that they sound better than the singles and are getting heavy airplay. So, the ones nobody expected are the ones with the crown. You people may hate to admit it, but Memphis Bleek and Ja Rule are New York's hottest two artists with the three hottest singles out.

You have heard right. Rumor has it that Memphis Bleek is done with his fifth studio album, The Proce

You have heard right. Rumor has it that Memphis Bleek is done with his fifth studio album, The Process, and it will come out in November. As mentioned, Bleek said that he has some classic material for his album. Memp Bleek stated that he did not want too many guests on his album. Actually, Bleek is making a lot of noise as he dropped a hot verse on Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent (remix)." Next, he says that he is preparing to drop his first "real" single from his album, and its one we haven't heard before. Some insiders at Get Low/Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam say that Bleek's album is full of hits and this time, he won't be denied. He said that he has about four hits from this album and its like nothing you've ever heard. After that, Memphis Bleek said that he wants to get into his sixth album, which will feature many artists. The main purpose for this album, set for release on September 22, 2009, is to showcase the artists on his label, Get Low Records. But that album will feature verses from Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Mims, Ava Denera, Ja Rule, Black Child, Newz, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Timbaland, D.O.E., Keri Hilson, and Diddy. Its weird how things change in a matter of a year. In late 2007, the most popular rappers from New York were Jay-Z, Fabolous, and 50 Cent (in that order). Fast forward one year and the laughingstocks are now on top last season's washed-up star, wasted potential, and one hit wonder. They are the top three: Ja Rule, Mims, and Memphis Bleek. Now all they need to do is release the albums that go along with their current hot singles, "Ladies," "Something New," "BaRock Star," "Donkie Booty," and "Here I Go," on an album to go platinum.

Lets take it back to the summer of 2002, who was the hottest rapper on the hottest label. Ja Rule. This was all without dropping an album since November of the previous year, but he was still tearing down the game. But, like every human, Ja had some skeletons in his closet. Still, he didn't think anything was going to stop him, he had recently knocked DMX from popularity (or so it seemed). But, the worst thing possible happened. Him, and his label, Murder Inc. oversaturated the market. I know its happened before, most recently with the 1999-2000 Roc-A-Fella squad, but all of their songs weren't produced by the same person, and was not in the same beat. But, for Murder, that was the case. That's when things fell apart, remember that skeleton I mentioned. That skeleton just happened to be 50 Cent, and he bum-rushed the hip hop market with his unique flow and gangsta lyrics. So, 50 made some good, unique music, and brought his squad along for the ride to take over the game. During this period, Ja Rule fell all of the off, and nobody was saying ITS MURDA. This led Ja to release an angry album that spewed venom at G-Unit and anyone that's been within 50 miles of them. Too bad for Ja, his rant of an album did not prove successful. Before the backlash and the angry album (but, its a pretty good album, but nowhere near the level of Get Rich or Die Tryin'') Ja Rule had sold 1 million, 3 million, 6 million, and 1 million. That was the United States alone, but his fifth release barely did 1 million worldwide, but did attain a Gold status within a year of release. In 2004, the feud died down, and Ja Rule made a return to the game as he and 50 Cent were having hits during the same period. So, Ja seemed to be back to his normal self with a new spin. On his sixth disc, he was a mixture of his 1999, 2001, and 2003 self. This proved successful as that album produced 3 hit singles, but you could tell his heart wasn't in it and that he was still hurting from the backlash. Initially, he announced his seventh album was coming in 2005, but Jay-Z (Def Jam's then CEO) decided not to renew Murder Inc.'s contract with Def Jam after the federal investigation. So, instead of an album, he dropped a Greatest Hits disc for his fans. This led to Ja's career floating away because he wasn't dropping anything new, and his credibility was still hurting. In 2006, he said he had plans of releasing a new album either sometime in 2006 or 2007. He released a few warm-ups in 2006, but nothing major. During the late summer of 2007, he released his single "Uh Oh" with Lil Wayne. This was the only Lil Wayne-associated song that did not become a hit in the 2006-2008 period. But, Ja wasn't quite done in late 2007, he dropped the hit single, "Body," with Ashley Joi. That single created a lot of buzz, but Irv Gotti decided to push the album back due to the song not reaching the level of other Ja Rule singles. So, for most of 2008, he was laid back. In July, that all changed as he released a song with 50 Cent's collaborator Robin Thicke to the surprise of many. The song didn't take off by any means, but it created buzz around Ja Rule. Then, he gave us the hits. These were songs that had been heard of since January 2007, but never heard (by me) until September 2008. Ja Rule took it back to the 1990s and hooked up with Jay-Z to provide some back-up vocals on his new single "Ladies." The song is getting a lot of airplay in my area, but I don't know if it is an official release. He has also teamed back up with Vita for a song entitled, "Something New." This song is also beginning to gain moderate airplay, similar to 2001 Ja Rule with "Livin It Up," and "Always On Time," both of these were hits, but we know which one took off. Now, with both of these singles, I think Ja Rule should push these and do videos. This is a song that they can't deny. "Ladies" isn't like any previous single of Ja Rule (his failures with "Uh Oh" and "Body"), and it sounds good (unlike "Free" with Ashley Joi). The song is a bonnafide hit with the airplay its getting, and if you're willing to admit it or not, Ja Rule is the most popular artist in New York right now, he's getting the most airplay. He's getting more spins than Jay-Z's two releases, and the only New York artist that I'm hearing of (music wise) is Mims, and "Donkie Booty" isn't going to catch on for another month. With that said, I think that if Gotti is willing to accept Ja isn't the artist he once was and releases him, he's going to return to that 2001-2002 level. But, he has two hits on his hands and I think that Ja Rule cannot be denied.

I think this might be the first ever Ja Rule post on The4thQuarter, but anyways, years ago there was supposed to be a group collab with the three artists and the group was to be called Murder Inc. This was before Ja Rule blew up and had his reign cut short like leprechauns by 50. Ja Rule talks about that group in this video.

For nearly two years, Ja Rule has been in the studio working on his “new” album, The Mir

For nearly two years, Ja Rule has been in the studio working on his "new" album, The Mirror, many versions of the album have come out on the supposed release dates. Now, Ja Rule says that the official version is ready, and will be coming out on October 28, 2008 through Murder Inc./Universal. Rule says that there is a lot of unexpected things on this album as far as production and other things go. Of some of his productions, Ja said that his collaboration with Sha Money XL was strictly business. Here's the quote: "Well, I heard this hot beat, and I felt like I had to have it, so I pursued it. I had talked to Busta Rhymes about the beat, and I told him I wanted it. He asked me if I was sure, I said yeah, I don't care where it came from, I need that beat. So, he told me it came from Sha Money, but I still wanted it, so I paid for the beat, and Sha sent it to me, but that's no truce whatsoever." Ja Rule also mentioned that he has a track on the album entitled "The Murda Is Back" with Jay-Z and DMX. In proper fashion, Irv Gotti produced the joint, and it will be featured on the album. While he mentioned that the track "Sunset" featuring The Game will not make the album cut, he did announce "Sunset (remix)," which not only features Game is also features a verse from Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. Also, the remix features production from Dr. Dre. When asked about his past conflicts with Dre Ja said: "Its in the past, I mean that was a minor feud to begin with. Actually, the feud has been over for four years. We all attended the Vibe Awards, and me and Dre talked and he's the one who called truce, so its always been love. People always ask me when did me and Snoop stop beefin', but we never did to begin with, 50 Cent didn't like me, and Snoop just did a song with him, that's it." Other tracks that will remain are "Pushin' It" with Robin Thicke, "Body" with Ashley Joi, and "Uh Ohhh!!!" with Lil Wayne. Ja Rule then showed us some newer tracks. Keeping up with tradition, he spoke on "New York Pt. 3" with not only Fat Joe and Jadakiss, but also many other NYC heavyweights. The track features Fabolous, Memphis Bleek, Lil Kim, and Mims. When asked about the collaboration, Ja said: "These are cats I've known for a while, but I was surprised when they all agreed to jump on the track. You see, New York has been lacking the unity it once held, so I was trying to unite the city a little bit. Man, I talked to Fab in Manhattan, and he said he'd be glad to do it, plus, you know me and Memph Bleek go hard. I was sort of surprised that Lil Kim went for it seeing how me and her never really conversated. Now, Mims is a different story, I didn't know him, but I know his producers. They told me that he's trying to take over the game and that he's real hungry so he'd be glad to do the track. So, then I had an all-star lineup for The Mirror." Also on tap for the album is a collaboration with D.O.E., and Justin Timberlake produced by Timbaland. Ja Rule went on to mention that he has plans of "The Inc. Is Back" with Black Child, Caddillac Tah, Young Merc, and Newz. Ja Rule then went on to mention that the "Judas" track had been scrapped due to his recent reconciliation with his foes, DMX, and Ashanti. He then mentioned a potential single, "Welcome To My World," with Lloyd and Ashanti. Mary J. Blige is also supposed to appear on the album.

Well, will this do the trick for the #1 Murderer, we'll have to wait and see. With that many collabos, I might openly support the Rule again.

I know that I have said some outrageous things in the past, but it does make sice (most of the time)

I know that I have said some outrageous things in the past, but it does make sice (most of the time) doesn't it? Exactly what I thought. I have said that Memphis Bleek could run this rap game, I compared Lil Wayne to Tupac. Heck, I even took on The CW and BET (multi-million dollar organizations) when all I have is $20 to fund my little channel. Bold, huh, yes, it sure is. Now, I'm about to tell you that Mims is our new Ja Rule. How, is what you are probably wondering, but just let me tell you. In 1999, Ja Rule debuted on the scene with a deep voice, and hardcore and obscene lyrics. That was his first album, in his sophomore release, he began doing love songs. By his third disc, he did as much singing as he did rapping. Apparantley a little too much, becuase since 2003, that does not fly (from Ja Rule). He's only had one successful love song since (2004's "Wonderful" with R. Kelly and Ashanti). Sure, he gets airplay, but its not the same. People say he sings too much, but they will accept it from any other rapper. The average Anti-Murderer will say he doesn't know what he's talking about, but you already have. Lets take it back one year, it is now early 2007 (sad times). Outside (well, at least in my area) it was very warm and very rainy, then it turned very cold. But, all of a sudden, it turned hot. That's because rapper, Mims, from Washington Heights, New York bursted onto the scene. He promised to bring New York back, he got clowned and still does to this day, but he brought New York back. His debut single was "This Is Why I'm Hot" released through Corey Llewellyn's American King Music and distributed by Capitol Records. Quickly, Mims became that dude in hip hop, he was even hotter than the likes of Fat Joe, and Lil Wayne. For a month at least. That is reminiscent of what Ja Rule had did eight years earlier, he came out with a song that was different, and it turned into a hit, but many wrote Ja off as a "one hit wonder." This is much like what happened with Mims, fans loved "This Is Why I'm Hot," but after the song got old, the insults came out. All of a sudden, he can't rap, he sucks, why ddoes everybody like him, then finally, "one hit wonder." To end all of that talk, Mims released "Like This," which was lukewarm, at best. Even though the song did get some substantial airplay in some areas, he still did not escape that "one hit wonder" label. But, why, its already been established.

Mims was determined to succeed, despite the fact that no one was feeling his style, he released his third single, "Without You" with LeToya Luckett. That song had a great sound, and would have done better as the album's lead single as it would have gone farther that "This Is Why I'm Hot." But, it was released a year ago to the day, but Capitol Records decided to shut down for the year, and halt the promotion of the single, and the December release of his sophomore album. Despite that, Mims said he was coming with some fire. He had released "Like This (remix)" with Sean Kingston in late 2007, and it was getting some airplay. In March 2008, he teamed up with a crew of rappers, Red Cafe, Currensy, and Pitbull and released a single. The single happened to be "We Really Do This," produced by DJ Nasty. This song sort of reminds you of Ja Rule's single, "Its Murda" with DMX and Jay-Z, as it was released in early 2000. But, little did we know, Mims was ready to change up. He didn't completely go from "Its Murda" to "Between Me and You," but he did change his style. His next single, released on July 29, 2008 (the same day as his album) was the female and radio-friendly, "Keep Up With Me." This song gained a lot of airplay, and was the song that completely saved Mims from being a "one hit wonder." Now, Capitol Records is wasting no time, they already have plans for Mims' third album to come out in March 2009. It is titled I Am Hip Hop's Savior. He previewed the album track, "Therapy" featuring Pharrell. It got a good reception, so Mims decided to give the fans the street single. That's when the introspective, "BaRock Star," comes into play. Initially, the song didn't do very well, but Mims went back to the guy that gave him his most popular remix, Junior Reid. Reid agreed to give Mims a chorus for "BaRock Star," and the song was greenlighted. The remix replaced the original song on the radio and the internet, and the video was shot. Mims is back before he even left, WOW. Now, its time to give the radio what they want. Mims said that when he came to bring it, he was going to bring it. In late 2008, he released I Am Hip Hop's Savior first single. The song is the Blackout-produced "Donkie Booty" with Trey Songz. This song is very much original, and Mims officially debuted his singing voice. The song has hit radio, and people are buzzing about Mims and his third album. His past releases have sold 300,000 copies and 500,000 copies. For this next record, e wants to surpass the Gold and aim for the Platinum.
