I'm very excited to share our latest Presents... feature, Podcasts!!! Very creatively, I might add, called Tsurucasts, because I'm the ultimate narcissist, well, except that Tsuru's not my name, hmm...

Anyway, so here's how it all went down. First, graphic artists & member captgeech, the designer of our amazing Society Shirts, suggested, when talking about "what's next for tsururadio", that we do them. Due to my unbelievable ignorance to the podcast phenomenon, I laughed it off... Who the hell would want to hear me jibber-jabber on in stereo audio? See... told you I was ignorant.

HA!

So, that's that, right? Nah. New member birdantony (making quite a splash for himself with an unreal mixtape I hope to share with you soon), pointed me to a little program he uses (among many) called Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer. Now, he likes to add sounds for transitions and whatnot, making something beyond a "mixtape" and into a full blown soundtrack (seriously, it's unreal, check it out!) so he's uses about 4 different programs, but all I've ever wanted to do was make the songs on my mixtapes "latch on" to each other a little better than just going mp3 to mp3... this program, for that, is perfect.

Last night, I installed it and first loaded up track four from coldcoffee's latest mixtape called Ideal Autum, a track that notorious sends the happy goosebumps along my entire body and a stupid smile on my face, then I casually threw on another track, fading one out, panning the other subtlely in, then another and another until finally, between last night and very early this morning (seriously, I woke up an extra thirty minutes early just to keep going), it was done.

I was going to cut it up and make it a normal mixtape, but I remembered what the capt said. Using our friend wikipedia, a little bit o' googling, a dictionary (unabridged), two computers, my slide ruler, and a scientific calculator I realized that I just built a podcast. Whodathunkit, eh?

After some additional test driving, ID tagging, art adding, and uploading, it's up and ready for your love!

I hope you like it. I hope the transitions aren't too cheesy or cliche or abrupt or whatever, lord knows it ain't perfect, I mean, it IS my first one. In the end, I hope it's just 1 hour and 15 minutes of good times.

Enjoy as...

Via streaming i gloriosi anni 80 rivivono su vari canali.
A presto!

When I saw her second album out today I was surprised.

2003: Our history started when I fell in love with her debut.

2004: Well before its time, on a houseboat in Amsterdam.

2005: She got a funny bob. I ignored her.

2007: She released 2 lousy singles: "It's Amazing" and "Crazy."

2008: I disowned her. I got her album today in reprieve.

Down To Earth she called it. So far, not so good.

You can't mix gospel and acid on the same album and expect it to be cohesive.

When Sex and the City first came out, there I was, sitting in the middle of the midnight show. It was packed. There were even a few crews decked in Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte party dresses. It was worth the extra boost of caffeine to make it through. The release of the DVD won’t bring as much individual fanfare, but it will just have to do.

From the opening scene to the final credits, the movie is propelled by some great music, including songs from Fergie, Ciara, Jennifer Hudson and Craig David as well as The Weepies, Jem, Al Green and India.Arie. The music in the movie Sex and the City is brilliant and perfectly suits the film. The soundtrack album does a decent job of recreating the music but only has 14 of 29 songs are on it. You can find them all at Reelsoundtrack.com.

In addition to these tracks, the movie also features original music by Aaron Zigman and the Sex and the City Movie Theme by the Pfeifer Broz. Orchestra.

I would like to congratulate my bestfriend, Ice and her hubby Bryan for a bouncing baby girl, Jem. Jem was born yesterday, September 19, 2008 at 12:07 am (I think) and weighs 3.2 kgs. :) Ice delivered via caeserian section. Her water bag broke early morning of September 18 but up to the evening, she was only 2 cm dilated. Anyhoo, that's not my tale to tell. I'm sure Ice will be keeping us updated in their blog as soon as they get out of the hospital.

I can't wait for photos! Bryan kept me up all night giving me updates and me, trying to allay Bryan's fears of delivery via CS. Told yah, Bry, everything is gonna be a-ok! I can't wait to meet Jem! :)

Quality: 4

Clean: 5

Genre: Pop, dance

Jem: as a child of the 80's the first thing I think of when I hear that name is Jem and the Holograms!

Ok seriously, I remember when Jem came out with her first album 4 year ago. I heard her first single, They, once on the radio and rushed out and bought the little mini EP, It All Starts Here (which was produced before the full album Finally Woken). My initial enthusiasm was a little much and I was slightly disappointed at the rest of the EP. I still liked it because it was, after all, good pop music and more on the electronic/triphop/dance side.

Jem's second album, Down to Earth, came out yesterday. I haven't gotten a copy of it yet...however she's put out a couple singles already. It's Amazing, was released as a single in June and on the soundtrack of Sex and the City, the movie. Jem's contribution is a solid, affirming, motivational and fun song. Lyrically, it reminds me of Mariah Carey's Make it Happen, or Jordin Spark's One Step at a Time. Jem urges the listener not to give up, to work hard and to have patience! The chorus is inspiring for anyone needing a little encouragement: It's Amazing all that you can do, It's Amazing, it makes my heart sing, now its up to you.

Musically, this song is hard to classify. Poppy, yet slightly more dancy than most pop, the beat is slightly DnB but not really...let's just say pop. Jem revels in these inbetween genre labels however. Her first album was a little trip hop, a little alternative, a little pop, a little acoustic folk rock. This song clearly has electronic roots looping over and over in the background, but it also has trumpet, guitar, strings, and piano, not to mention Jem's soothing voice. Oh and as a bonus a computerized 80's sounding voice at the end urging the listener to trust her instincts, and not give up! Its a good song, not super great. I love it for its positive message and poppy beat. Certainly more creative than most dime-a-dozen pop singers out there. For 99 cents on iTunes I can't think of a reason not to buy it.

If only I had that panoramic shot of Jem in that scarlet frock to fill one of my walls...

The majority of the tracks do lean towards pop, and defnitely less experimental than those in Finally Woken. The debut album has got wide variations, from that really aggressively-jarring 24 to the acoustic cooing of Flying High, but Down to Earth feels more consistent (well, with exception of Aciiid! which was really really weird..)

Nevertheless, the wait is finally over! I'm already looping And So I Pray for the 4th time~

Jem: finalmente saiu o segundo álbum dessa menina. Eu pelo menos estava esperando ansiosamente. Gostei, viu. Destaque para You Will Make It, minha preferida.

Procrastination, ladies and gentlemen. It’s the word of the day. It’s the reason I

Procrastination, ladies and gentlemen. It's the word of the day. It's the reason I'm writing this blog instead of working on a concept map, writing an essay, and studying for a test (all of which are due tomorrow). It's the reason I'm going to hate myself in the morning. It's the reason I'll actually be doing my homework daily from now on (or so I say now...)

Anyway, now that we've determined that I'm FREAKING SCREWED, let's talk about life in Chucktown. I've been here for three weeks and I LOVE it. I've got school (duh), I had a job (and am looking for a new one... anyone hiring?) and I'm up to my ears in activities. I like having activities though. I enjoy being busy. I enjoy being the roommate who's never home, I enjoy being the person who manages it all and a social life (who do people call when they're looking for a party on a random night? Yeah, that would be me. It's a first. I'm excited).
So anyway, to get an idea of a Day in the Life of Miss Victoria-fly, we'll leave out the boring crap (classes, which aren't that bad and some of which I enjoy) and cut straight to the chase.

So I've been writing for the school newspaper for all of about three weeks (since I got here haha). And I've been assigned a beat. Which is cool. I'm not going to say which one, because I'd like to be incognito, a little bit. Anyway, look for my stories in your local GSO (unless you don't go to school with me. In which case, check it out online here).

Also, I'm a DJ for CofC Radio. Which is freaking amazing. We all know how music-y I am. Hey, at least I got out of that nasty habit of interjecting everything with what song happened to come on my iTunes. Whatever. Anyway, I'm excited. I've got a show from 2 to 4 on Tuesdays, which you can listen to here. They're working on getting their FM license, which means eventually I'll be on the airwaves. For the time being, it's pretty immaterial to me, since I've never done anything like this and I'm supernervous and the majority of the people that i'd REALLY want to listen to me are back home, and can do so over the internet. Anyway, seriously, check me out. Don't judge.

I had a job at Domino's Pizza, but working there (a grueling 24-hour week which is RIDICULOUS for a college freshman and even more ridiculous for someone who agreed to work 10-15 hours per week) made me realize how much I hate it there. And I hate this one even more than the one in Easley. I kind of liked the one in Easley. It's my home.

Anyway, I'm totally freaking screwed and I need to do my homework. Right now. Goodnight, all in blog land (yeah, I know you pay no attention to me. I don't care. I'll keep screaming.) LOVE!

Band of the Day (week, month, post): I Was Totally Destroying It. I saw them live. They're pretty awesome.

UPCOMING CD RELEASES THAT I'M DYING TO GET: Down to Earth by Jem- Sept. 16. It's the follow-up to 2005's Finally Woken. First single "It's Amazing" was on Sex and the City: The Movie.
Broken Doll by Anna Nalick- Sept. 23. Follow-up to 2005's Wreck of the Day. First single "Shine" was released in January, so this whole CD is a long time coming.

Jem
Down To Earth ••½
ATO

For Jem's skill in having her jazzy songs previewed in television shows, the 33-year-old former DJ agent lives in the right place – Los Angeles – a long way from her childhood home in a South Wales seaside town. Down To Earth, the follow-up to her platinum-selling 2004 debut Finally Woken, has at least three tunes a screen-savvy audience will already recognise from the 'Sex & The City' movie ('It's Amazing'), grungy/glitzy teen show 'Glamour Girl' (the banjo-tinged 'Crazy') and the all-new 'Beverly Hills 90210' ('I Always Knew'). Jem might serve us a first course via mainstream cinema, but if we enjoy the aperitif, we will definitely order further dishes.

Jem creates songs like one wraps a present, rewarding the patient listener with treasures nested in the tissue paper of technically-enhanced guitar elegance. The 9/11-inspired 'You Will Make It', which features the accomplished voice of South African folkie Vusi Mahlasela, performs like Coldplay's 'Death & All His Friends': able to incorporate a completely different song through soft transition and making what was, at first glance, just a box and bow, into a beautifully eclectic thing. And although her voice does not boast superiority, its whispery effect is humble and befits her budding pop princess reputation without the showy trappings of the so-called divas. Jem does not rush from one song to another, which might be expected of someone who's in it simply for the cash payout; rather, she lets her hands trace up and down the ivory keys, waiting for the perfect moment to quote her poetry.

Sure, her similarity to Dido is obvious, but if she can defy naysayers by resolutely keeping it pop and proud, then no one can expect her to be different. Someone has to fill the shoes of the late-'90s women who inoffensively bee-bopped to the rhythm of muffled drums. The inspirational 'Got It Good' has simple lyrics that are familiar, but never old, and is a cute relief from angry teen idols like Avril and Pink, while the Brazilian percussion of the title track keeps things interesting. Then, suddenly, we hear the anomaly 'Aciiid!', co-written with Greg Kurstin of The Bird & The Bee, and it's (shhh...) a little bit naughty! You can just imagine gossip girls everywhere prancing in their heels to Jem's proclamation of "kiss my ass". Quite what they will make of her attempt to sing in Japanese is another matter entirely.

Indeed, a second look heralds the realisation that most of Jem's songs in fact have the lyrics of an anapestic lullaby. There's nothing groundbreaking here, certainly, and Down To Earth presents a threat to no one. Unless you count the other Hollywood music artists who are rolling their eyes and sulking out of botched auditions because Jem is back in town.

Feel your way...

You know what we haven't had in a while? Some awesome (according to me, of course) Youtube videos. Ah, Youtube - the working man's time waster.

1. I was recently reminded of why this is still my favorite Batman movie...

2. Speaking of Michelle...

3. Come on, you didn't think I'd miss this opportunity, right?

4. And this? This is AWESOME.

No need to thank me, the sound of tapping feet is enough...

Stylistically, Jem's music skirts the line between electronica, trip-hop and full on Top 40 pop, and it works best for me the more eccentric and left of center it is, as on tracks like "Aciiid," on which she seems to channel her inner, albeit radio-friendly, Peaches. She gets a lot of Dido comparisons, mostly owing to her voice, but on Down To Earth, Jem seems to be evoking early 70's pop and folk, with a heavy helping of the Carpenters (and no, the last track, "On Top Of The World," is not a cover), all given a modern pop gloss. I wasn't initially crazy about the first single, "Crazy," but eventually I warmed up to it, mostly owing to the inspired pairing of a funk guitar riff with a banjo. All in all, Down To Earth is pretty pleasing to the ear without being very challenging, and it's when Jem's music has the latter quality that it's most successful and interesting. This is a solid, mostly entertaining follow up, even if it doesn't quite follow through on the promise of her debut. Here's hoping that next time out, Jem takes a few more risks. Standout cuts: "Down To Earth," "Crazy", "Aciiid!," and "How Would You Like It?"

ORIGINAL: 25-08-2008

Nouu nou nouuu

Stick to the Status Quo!

or this is what it happens U_U

Months ago, without previous warning, I had the *lucky chance* of living the AMAZING, ASTONISHING and FULFILLING experience of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL movies on TV.

TODAY I was just looking for the JEM and The Holograms ripped tracks (yesssss what about that??? Do you remember Synergy -truly outrageous!!!!!!). I've also downloaded some retarded music from an old-Argentinian TV show (Chiquititas). Hey, LET IT BE!

Sooo... After watching the profile of the most interesting girl I've "known" the last months, I've downloaded the THINGS : D

I really like the two silly brothers: Sharpay and Ryan Evans . They're STYLISH and mean : D , yes...but they also have talent. And this is my 1st Personal Statement here:

IF YOU HAVE TALENT MAYBE YOU HAVE ALSO THE RIGHT TO DRESS FLAMBOYANTY AND BE A JERK : D

mOre THINGS. There was a time when I proclamed myself as a "POP HATER". Childish dreams, ignorance, low self-esteem...I'm also like that today. But, guess, I tripped over puberty and while some girls began to listen naughty and/or depressing tunes - this is what I listen to NOW xD + metafiction·hyper·music- I've started to crash my brain with anime and cartoons soundtracks ... 2nd Personal Statement!

SOUNDTRACK LOVERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO LISTEN TO H.S.M. ONLY FOR EDUCATIONAL REASONS : D

This has no sense!!

The ultimate truth is that H.S.M. music is funny, it has the perfect pop songs to cheer you up, sing-along, LIPSYNCH!, laugh at ...etc. Remember, an old Personal Statement.

WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA BE A DRAG QUEEN WITH COOL GLASSES.

Cindy Lauper when I have retro-feelings, H.S.M. when I need to avoid feelings? But,

I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES FROM YOU xD

Sorry, maybe you ended up reading this post just because you were googling High School Musical things, and this has too many grammatical mistakes and is to weird and it feels like the writer has some kind of mental disease or SHE is just stupid. Sorry. I'M SO SORRY (q)

This post has some personal backgroud INDEED. But I cannot explain it with my current english -and it isn't worthy to be expressed in my native language either. So, this is my 3rd and Last Personal Statement:

WHEN YOU'RE OUT OF PIZZAS, JUST LISTEN TO HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL...IT WON'T GET BETTER, BUT YOUR BRAIN WILL STOP WORKING A WHILE.

And you will start dancing as an idiot : D - Wait! I DON'T DANCE

Thanks to: 16 year-old AWESOME girls with motivating English.
