While Friday and Saturday night of the Christmas Boat Parade are the most requested dates for company holiday parties, the other days of the parade offer some distinct advantages. Parking can be especially challenging during the Friday and Saturday nights of the Boat Parade. We always recommend prepaying with the Newport Landing parking structure for parking. Another great option is to rent a bus and come in as one group. Unlike Friday and Saturday, the other nights of the parade offer all of the décor and parade happenings with less of the congestion traveling to the Balboa peninsula. Once the parking has been solved for the rest is smooth sailing.

When planning your Newport Beach Holiday Cruise the topic of food and what format is the best for maximizing your experience. Sit down dinner options are popular, but we find that buffets or even hors d’ oeuvres allow for more mingling and the flexibility to move around the boat to view all of the festivities. An added plus with the buffet option or hors d’oeuvres is the cost per person is usually much lower than a full sit down dinner.

For guests that can push the drinking envelope we can provide a drink package with a fixed cost regardless of what is consumed. Other options include drink tickets or drink credit after which the guest pays or just a cash bar option. But for the added cost the open bar is a nice gesture and a good cost/benefit decision.

A simple yet often overlooked detail that adds value during the holiday cruise and long after is pictures. There is nothing that creates more buzz than taking pictures of the parade, décor, and most importantly the guests. Pictures capture the moment and with all of the visuals and guests that are in a different element the resulting photographs take on a presence of there own. A number of companies that have come out with us were surprised and how long after the holiday season the pictures of their holiday party were the topic of discussion in the lunch room. And for those companies inviting key customers or vendors sending pictures to them even via email is a great way to tie the event into a long lasting memory. Nothing fancy is needed and sometimes is nice to have several individuals with digital cameras (recommended type) and you get a different flavor of photos from each individual.

The News-Press I think took care of all the private schools (St. Francis and Flintridge Prep) and CV.  I'll get those up Monday, I think.

Joe is doing well.  He got out of the hospital early the next morning and his parents are taking good care of him.  He's back to school already and taking courses of treatment for the head injury.

He won't be returning this year, but he'll likely be on the sidelines cheering.  As Dr. Dragos said, "We're only concerned with his health."

Hughes has a history of head injuries, so even thinking of bringing him back is the wrong way to go. 

This is probably the best news I've heard all week.  I saw the kid go down on the field and watched the paramedics strap him to the gurney and it looked real bad.  But fortunately, he's OK and hopefully he will suffer no ill effects in the long-term.

The first chart represents the number of single family residences (sfr) that came on the market, went into escrow, sold and came off the market in Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Altadena and La Canada between September 20th and last Friday, September 26th. This data was collected from our local MLS, iTech.

This picture tells a very different story from what most of the nation is experiencing in their respective real estate markets. Our market been affected by the economic downturn, however it still has a very strong heartbeat.

Por fin volví a Cullera. Tenía tantas ganas de encontrar la misma calle de siempre, sí allí estaba, el patio (el portal diría ella) del apartamento de Paramparo, el puesto de fruta, la heladería de los banana split, las terracitas, los balcones, los coches, la gente, los madrileños, los franceses, la playa, la montaña con las grutas secretas... que no esperé a la tarde ni a la noche y a pleno sol del día, a las doce de la mañana me pegué una sudada de impresión por llegar a mi destino, que no era ése sino otro, pero el otro ya perdió interés ante mi afán por buscar mi sitio, allí estaba todo -sí- el mismo balcón donde nos contábamos historias de miedo a las seis de la mañana y revivíamos nerviosos los juegos eróticos de La Cañada siendo niños, niños, nadie nos pilló, ni ahora tampoco, ni nos pillaban al detener los ascensores para merendar sentados dentro y pulsar el timbre de todas las puertas y cantar canciones divertidas escondidos en las azoteas bajo las estrellas. Tengo comprobado que una dosis elevada de recuerdos aplicada en tiempo corto produce en mi cerebro un latigazo que me deja ko, de hecho me pasé el resto de la tarde tumbado tomándome aspirinas y coca-cola. Ya por la noche se me vuelve a pasar todo. Paramparo es la culpable del nombre de este espacio, sólo ella y yo conocemos el significado de esa palabra mágica, por éso viajamos en aviones diferentes, por seguridad y para preservar el maravilloso secreto. Ni todos los timbres de todas las puertas podrán hacer que me despierte del sueño que estoy viviendo. O sí. No lo sé. Necesitaré millones de timbres. O uno sólo que me dé un buen calambrazo a tiempo. Yo la busco y no la encuentro, la alegría de vivir (ahora).

Amidst the rough, tough and trying times, when home prices are taking a bit of a dip, a small percentage of excessively wealthy people choose to do what any person would do with some expendable income: buy. Meaning, the market for high end luxury homes and estates (or mansions rather), is still going strong, and has been somewhat unaffected by the proclaimed "housing crisis." If you've driven through Pasadena, San Marino and La Canada, you know that in each of these cities is embedded some of these lavish homes. The question then, is how it affects the surrounding housing markets. In some respects, the degree that properties are affected by the volatility in the market, is somewhat correlated to the distance from these very neighborhoods with multimillion dollar homes. So the surrounding areas are less affected, and drops in price are less and less the closer you get to those homes. Here's the $52 Million home in Pasadena pictured above.

Como hacía con Isabel, que presumía de aproximarse a ellos y hacerse su amiga. Lo ves.. mira qué tienes que hacer, es fácil. Asi, así. Está cerca de mi casa. Llevo unos días acudiendo allí, mal síntoma. Ahora la Universitat Politècnica lo ha puesto de moda con sus estudios y exposiciones, pero siempre me pareció un jardín triste. Voy cuando no tengo adónde ir. Y paseando entre los centenarios árboles recuperados con mimo exquisito pienso qué cojones hago rodeado de niños traviesos que no quieren biberón, no no nooooooo quiero mamá, abuelitos tomando el sol y la sombra, ven aquí se está bien y estudiantes leyendo libros y fantaseando amores, pájaros bonitos, en lugar de irme corriendo a tomar una copa al bar de Gustavo, el bar de Gustavo es el Café Infanta en el Barri del Carme de Ciutat Vella, que es amigo (amiguito) de Javier, el mayor de mis peques, que ahora se ha dejado una cresta a lo kikiriki y tampoco quiere los biberones de Colacao que le preparaba, yo mentalmente le sigo preparando biberones, él no lo sabe.

Casi de noche me esperaban los gatos como en el paraíso, libres y felices igual igual que me esperaba cada tarde mi pequeña gata Pulguita para jugar conmigo en La Cañada. Hacéis muy buena pareja Pulgui y tú, éramos la envidia de todos. La salvamos, la cuidamos, la quisimos. Bueno, yo no la quería al principio. Quería a su dueña. Y tuve que tragar. Luego las quise a las dos mucho. Ahora ya no están conmigo. Otras personas tampoco están.

Todo pasa, dicen.

3-6 p.m.: De La Salle, the 11th-ranked football program in the nation, according to Maxpreps.com, will be practicing at CV High as they prepare to take on Loyola (Los Angeles).  Game is supposed to be played in Glendale, I don't know where, but you can capture their practice and see just how good they are.

5 p.m.: La Canada plays Flintridge Sacred Heart in girls' volleyball, which should be a great match-up.  Coaches Brock Turner (La Canada) and Shelley Orlandini (Sacred Heart) have a running bet on who's going to win.  The wager?  A beer.

7 p.m. Football galore.  La Canada hosts Glendale, Flintridge Prep hosts Villanova Prep at Occidental College and St. Francis visits Crescenta Valley at Moyse Field.
