It’s a question that comes up a lot here in the Horse Capital of the World: What do you get the horseman or woman who has everything?

How about a set of modern, ultra-sexy table accessories with an equestrian theme? (And no, I’m not talking about something emblazoned with one of those ubiquitous hunt scenes.) I first saw this chic, all-white porcelain from Lladró, the Spanish company known for its figurines, in the current issue of Details magazine.

In the Re-Cyclos Magical collection by British designer Bodo Sperlein, horses’ legs, heads and hooves are used on all sorts of accessories — mugs, cups and saucers, bowls, plates, butter dishes, etc. Sperlein has cleverly used the sinewy shape of a horse’s leg in place of handles on most of the objets — these things are so chi-chi, you could never call them dishes.

My favorite is the teapot, which has a leg as the pot’s handle and an ankle as the lid’s handle. (Kind of strange, though, is the pedestal bowl, which balances on four horse heads. It looks like it would hurt.)

Of course, all this chic loveliness from one of the world’s foremost porcelain makers is not without an infarction-inducing price tag. A set of two napkin rings is listed at, gulp, $185. The neat-o teapot is — eek! — $500.

Una mia amica si sposa... cosa le regalo????

Sembra facile ma non lo è!

Perchè anche se siete amiche da una vita, avete sempre avuto gusti simili, ora c'è la variante "impazzita"....IL FUTURO MARITO!

Fino a quel momento il fidanzato non si è mai imposto ma in questo frangente avrà voce in capitolo e voi, in quanto amiche del cuore, dovete rispettarlo.

Se c'è una lista di nozze molto bene; ma se non c'è? Regalereste del denaro?

Io no! E non (solo) perchè vendo regali ma perchè trovo che gli oggetti fermino i ricordi.

Ad esempio mio marito, dopo il primo anno di fidanzamento, per San Valentino mi ha regalato un portafoto in argento con dentro la foto del nostro primo capodanno insieme. Per me (che vendo portafoto in argento!) è stato un pensiero dolcissimo ed ancora fa' bella mostra di sè in camera da letto e tutte le volte che lo guardo ricordo il giorno che me lo ha dato e cosa mi ha detto!

Ecco perchè non mi piace regalare denaro, lo spendi ma non hai memoria di momenti particolari o di attimi speciali passati con la persona che te lo ha dato.

Quindi occorre optare per oggetti originali (tanto piatti, bicchieri e pentole sono di dominio dei parenti!), cose che non si comprerebbero ma che si usano.

Una antipastiera?  Serve per servire salatini ed antipasti ma anche noccioline, patatine e tutto quello che si può trovare in un "aperitivo" che si rispetti!

Una fonduta? E' un oggetto che "Fa' serata" tu prepari i tocchetti di carne o di pane ( a seconda del tipo di fonduta che si vuole fare) le salsine e poi si passa la serata a spizzicare e chiacchierare, ottima per le fredde serate invernali.

Un set da pic-nic per due? Composto da un bauletto che diventa tavolino con dentro 2 calici di vetro, 2 piatti di porcellana, 2 set di posate in acciaio, una tovaglia e due tovaglioli, sale e pepe ed un cavatappi. Ottimo per una prima notte di nozze romantica, ancora meglio se dentro ci aggiungete una bottiglia di Champagne!

 Un oggetto di Swarovski simbolico? Il quadrifoglio (che porta sempre fortuna), l'ostrica ( perchè non abbandona mai il suo scoglio), la coppia di pulcinelle di mare ( perchè sono volatili monogami), il cigno (che simboleggia il matrimonio), la coppia di orsetti Kris sposi ( che potrebbero sostituire le tristissime statuine di plastica che stanno sopra la torta!).

Una lampada catalitica, per profumare il loro nido d'amore!

Una statua di Lladrò? Ad esempio gli sposi o le bimbe SOLE e LUNA che siboleggiano lo scorrere del tempo (che si spera passino sempre insieme!).

Come vedete le opzioni sono tante.... Tutto dipende dalla fantasia... un po' vostra ed un po' mia!!!

Any figurine of any worth will have a company trademark, mark or backstamp on the underside of the base. Some figurines such as those made by Royal Copenhagen have had the same marking for many years. Others such as M.I. Hummel and Lladro have had an array of marks which were changed every few years.

Now one slight complication with a Lladro figurine is that some of the first ones made were unmarked, however these are extremely rare so it's unlikely you'll find one. Most likely if you encounter an unmarked Lladro it's a fake or forgery.

When making a purchase in an antique store it's an easy matter to make a visual inspection of the marking but what do you do if you're buying online such as on eBay for example? If the seller has not provided a photo of the trademark or backstamp request that they do so. A reputable seller will be happy to comply with this simple request.

Something else to be aware of is the issue of "seconds". Seconds are figurines or collectibles which the manufacturer considered to be inferior for some reason, many times unnoticeable to the average collector. Seconds are marked by marring the backstamp or logo in some fashion. For example Royal Copenhagen scores their logo with a sharp object. Lladro will scrape off their famous bell logo leaving just their trademark name. From an investment standpoint this is an important thing to watch for.

On a side note one strength of the changing markings over time is they provide an excellent means of finding out the approximate age of the figurine. This can also be important as an earlier version of a figurine can be much more valuable. This has always been true of Hummel figurines particularly.

Me ha venido a la cabeza las clases de Arte en la Facultad, en especial una compañera cuya madre tenía una colección brutal de Lladrós. Siempre me han generado bastante repulsión estas estatuillas, lo mismo que me pasa con Barbie... sencillamente no puedo ¿a quién le gustan estas cosas? ¿a que razón obedece la obsesión que tengo por destrozar la de mi madre desde que era pequeñita ?

Peris es conocido internacionalmente por sus trabajos en campañas de publicidad para Lois, la Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias o Rafael Amargo. La exposición reúne sus últimas propuestas visuales con las geometrías plasmadas sobre pañuelos de seda y otros materiales alternativos al papel fotográfico, a tamaño 100x100 cm., y en blanco y negro.

En total, 24 obras en las que presenta  pañuelos estampados simétricos que interaccionan mediante geometrías. Cada pañuelo está formado por numerosos cuerpos desnudos, que forman simetrías que interaccionan con los fondos de color blanco, negro y gris, y geometrías redondas, cuadradas y rombos. A la vez todas estas formas están reflejadas de blanco a negro.
