Maria Katrina Irene Pe Halili (born on January 4, 1986 in Quezon City but raised in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines), popularly known as Katrina Halili, is a Filipina actress of Chinese descent. Katrina Halili is an alumna of the StarStruck talent search and was the cover girl of FHM Philippines for its December 2005 issue. She was subsequently voted as FHM Philippines sexiest woman for the year 2006 and bagged the title yet again in 2007. She is the first StarStruck contestant to top the FHM Philippines' 100 Sexiest list and the only Filipina celebrity to have won the title twice in a row. She is a three-time FHM Philippines covergirl. 4. Angel Locsin

Angel Locsin (born Angelica Colmenares on April 23, 1985), is a television and film actress, commercial model, film producer and fashion designer in the Philippines.

Locsin rose to prominence after being cast as one of the lead stars in the fantasy-themed television series Mulawin in 2004. Soon after, she starred as the superheroine Darna in the TV adaptation of the popular Mars Ravelo comics. When her contract expired last March 2007, Angel did not renew her contract to her mother studio, GMA Network, and signed an exclusive contract in ABS-CBN despite her booming career on the first. Locsin was recently awarded as the Princess of the Philippine Movies and Television in the 38th Box Office Entertainment Awards

5. Diana Zubiri

Rosemarie Joy Garcia, better known by her stage name Diana Zubiri (born on April 15, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines), is a Filipina actress. Zubiri was discovered by Seiko Films when she was 15 years after applying for a work in Japan. She then started on sexy roles on various films by Seiko. In October 2002, Zubiri became widely known in the Philippines after posing on the top of the EDSA-Shaw flyover in Mandaluyong City, wearing only a two-piece bikini. That photoshoot for FHM Philippines sparked controversy and prompted the Mayor of the City to file charges against Zubiri and FHM but it was later withdrawn after an apology.

6. Ehra Madrigal

Annabelle Rama and is a contract artist of GMA Network. A high school graduate of St. Mary's College, Quezon City, she is the eldest sister of fellow actress Michelle Madrigal and the daughter of former actress Karla Kalua, whose real name is Katherine Ann Madrigal. She, her younger sister Michelle, and her mother are distant relatives of affluent Spanish-Visayan family, the Madrigal Family. After her teenybooper days, she got into a "leading lady" status in GMA Primetime shows like Lupin, Kamandag and among others. She becomes a Tanduay calendar girl and model for the year 2008 after Katrina Halili. Ehra became 2-time FHM Philippines covergirl for September 2006 and June 2008 while her sister Michelle became 1-time FHM covergirl for the same month as Ehra's but in 2007 issue. Aileen Quimapo Iwamoto (born August 29, 1988), popularly known by her screen name Iwa Moto, is a Filipina actress of Japanese descent. She is well known for playing Rita on Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap which was played before by the award winning actress Amy Austria in the original film. Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Her Japanese father left the family to go back to his native Japan when Iwa was still very young. Her family then moved to Davao due to her stepfather's job assignment there. She would later move back to Manila to pursue her studies. Bianca King (born Bianca Charlotte King on March 18, 1986 in Germany) is a Filipina actress. Her best-known role to date was as Aviona in the 2004 series Mulawin. King had her first movie break via the film "Birhen ng Manaoag", where she played the daughter of Cherrie Pie Picache. After the "Birhen ng Manaoag" movie, she starred in Love 2 Love opposite Jay Aquitania and was snatched by Regal Films to be one of their Regal idols. Ken Griffey went 1/5 Sunday as the Reds defeated the Indians. Junior is now on a 2/24 skid and he's all the way down to a meager .234 BA with only nine HR. Yet there he is, still hitting third for the Reds on a regular basis. There's no question that Griffey is an all-time great who's a cinch first ballot Hall of Famer. But the numbers that will get Griffey to Cooperstown have already been registered. Fact is, he's not so hot anymore.

So why does Reds skipper Dusty Baker stubbornly refuse to move Griffey out of the all important #3 hole in the Cincy lineup? The answer is pretty clear, as it's not like this is something new for Dusty. He loves his veterans and prefers to live in the past rather than recognize the present.

I can't see Baker being back at the Reds helm next season. I'd have never given him the job in the first place, as I've long regarded Baker as one of the worst managers I've ever seen. He might run a great clubhouse and bring some positive intangibles to the position, but he's a brutally inept game manager. The bad news for Dusty is that Walt Jocketty is now the GM, and I would strongly doubt that he'll be bringing Baker back for another year. Jocketty spent all those years running the show in St. Louis with Tony LaRussa calling the shots in the dugout. Comparing LaRussa to Baker is akin to watching a thoroughbred horse run six furlongs, and then viewing a donkey covering the same course. The difference is unmistakable.

SURGING VETERANS

Tough times in 2008 for a couple of productive performers named Jim Thome and Adrian Beltre. But both may be awakening from virtual season-long slumbers.

Thome missed some action this past week as the White Sox couldn't use the DH while they were in LA. But Thome went deep on Sunday against the Cubs, and he's starting to get pretty hot. Thome is now 12/36 recently with three HR. He's also scored 12 runs in driven in eight more in that stretch.

Beltre also went long on Sunday, and the Mariners 3B is now on a 16/37 hot streak. He also has a couple of steals in that run, indicating he's feeling pretty healthy right now.

Neither Thome nor Beltre figure to be great assets in the batting average category, but they can make hay in other categories. Thome is in the middle of a very potent White Sox lineup, so his power and production could be very valuable. As for Beltre, he's a good bet to contribute in four categories, particularly given his history of strong second halves.

Thome and Beltre aren't likely to be available in any deep leagues, but both players look like viable trade targets that might not cost all that much. Explore the possibilities.

NOTABLE CALLUP

I'll start with Texas 1B Chris Davis, who's supposedly just up for a little bit. But with Hank Blalock unable to shake the wrist issues that are keeping him sidelined, Davis may stick around for awhile. Davis is a pure power hitter. He projects as a future 40 HR producer, especially playing for the Rangers. Davis probably won't be a big BA type. He's got a long swing and he'll get nothing but air on a frequent basis, especially early on as his strike zone recognition isn't the best. But his power is undeniable, and that makes him a great keeper league grab. As for annual leagues, I wouldn't use a top waiver claim on Davis, as the Rangers have stated he's going back down once Blalock is ready to play. But if you can Davis cheap, he'll be worth using against righties for his HR potential.

The Rangers have also brought up pitcher Warner Madrigal. He's not worth chasing right now, as Madrigal will be used exclusively in middle relief for the Rangers. But there's a good chance he'll be closing for Texas by next season, as that's what the converted position player has been doing down on the farm. Madrigal has some nice numbers at AA/AAA this season, including 14 saves. Put him on your watch list as I would think he could get a chance to close some games late this year, especially if C.J. Wilson can't shake his erratic tendencies.

Finally, there's Roger Bernadina, who takes over in Washington's OF for the injured Lastings Milledge. Bernadina will likely get most of the starts the next couple weeks at a minimum, and maybe longer depending on how long Milledge has to reside on the DL. Bernadina probably won't hit for much of an average. But he does have quite a bit of speed, so he could be a source of some cheap steals for anyone hurting in the category.

]]> http://appellationmountain.wordpress.com/?p=154 Sat, 14 Jun 2008 10:51:38 +0000 appellationmountain http://appellationmountain.wordpress.com/?p=154 Fifteen years ago, a Marine Corps band member of our acquaintance wanted a musical name for his daughter.  She became Cadence.  At the time, we thought it was a charming and utterly distinctive choice.  And when we first heard Harmony in the mid-90s, it seemed like a fresh and clever moniker, far more interesting than the tired Melody.

Today, both of those choices are increasingly common.  In fact, Cadence has been swept up in the K-name kraze to spawn Kadence and Kaydence.  And yes, we've even met a Harmonie.  

Music-minded parents have to work much harder to find an appealing, lyrical choice.  Emmy Jo suggested an interesting idea - today's Name of the Day: Madrigal.

It would take a daring parent, indeed, to choose Madrigal for their daughter.  

While plenty of choices ripped from the dictionary rank in the US Top 100 - Destiny, Trinity and Autumn all make the list, as well as classic virtue picks like Grace and Faith, and floral names like Lily and Jasmine - Madrigal does not appear in the Top 1000, or in fact, in most baby naming references.

But this one sounds like a name, and with both Maddie and Maggie as nickname options, it would offer a compromise - unusual name on the birth certificate, easy-to-wear short form for daily use.

The term refers to two separate, but similar, types of vocal music.  

The first, dating from the 14th century, is part of the Italian Trecento - sort of the starting bell for the Renaissance.  Dante and Petrarch penned their immortal works, painters explored new techniques and composers wrote simple pieces with pastoral themes for two, and sometimes three, voices.  Manuscripts exist for many madrigals, but the origin of the form itself is debated.  Some see links to troubadours' ballads from the Middle Ages; others contend it is a secularization of church music.

In any case, there's widespread agreement that madrigals died out circa 1400, and more than a century later, the largely unrelated Madrigal: The Sequel developed.  The madrigals of the Italian Renaissance included parts for more voices - usually three to six, and sometimes as many as eight.  The themes remained secular, and sometimes relied on the poetry of Petrarch and others for their lyrics.  Later, the form would spread to England and Germany, and would persist as an important musical genre until eclipsed by opera.

There's nothing in that (brief, and possibly flawed) thumbnail sketch of musical evolution to put us off Madrigral for a girls' name.  When we went digging for the roots of the word itself, it appears to have evolved from the late Latin term matricalis.  That term means invented; or, more literally, refers to the Latin words for womb - matricis and mother - mater.  In vernacular forms of Italian common in the 16th century, the word madrigal implies both simple and clever.  It's a term of praise for something created.

Madrigal's prospects as a name just get better and better.

It also translates flawlessly.  Your daughter Destiny might find her name a burden during study abroad, but Madrigal is virtually unchanged in European languages as different as French, Slovak and Swedish.

Madrigal also appears as a seldom-heard Spanish surname and place name.

If there is any drawback to this pretty appellation, it is a vague science fiction vibe.  There is, in fact, a role playing game called Madrigal.  You can sign up and take part in a weekend-long Revel, enacting the events of the mystical world Aerune.

Hey, we're not here to judge.  But a slight undercurrent of disaffected and sullen adolescence does attach to this name.

The positive spin on that problem is this: a madrigal was commonly sung not by trained performers, but by ordinary people.  Imagine heading over to the neighbors' house for dinner and then leafing through sheet music - more widely available during the Renaissance due to advances in printing - to choose something to sing with a friend.  Most of us just don't do that anymore; the line between performer and audience is well-defined.  Madrigal, then, is a name with some equalizing, rebellious force - not merely creative, but something of a free spirit and a radical, too.

Parents looking for a successor to Cadence, Harmony and Lyric can consider Madrigal a thoroughly intriguing choice for a daughter.

Claudio Monteverdi is considered the turning point of the Renaissance period to Baroque.
He has composed nine madrigal books, which fully showcase the experimentalism of vocal parts that would become typical in the following century.

The sixth madrigal book, Sesto Libro de Madrigali contains Lamento d’Arianna, a very popular piece at the time.

Cuando llegó la adolescencia cambié esos momentos por salidas, rumbas y paseos con mis amigos. A todos nos sucede y nuestros padres nunca se preparan para ello, pero así tiene que ser. Durante esa época mi tiempo se repartía entre el cole, la calle, los amigos y el rock and roll. Atrás quedaron los boleros y las tertulias.

Pasó el colegio y legó la época universitaria. Nuevos ritmos se integraban a mi vida y el bolero seguía perdido en la memoria. Pero en esta misma época llegaron los amores de verdad. Esos que uno vive a plenitud y que nunca olvida. Mágicamente, en el escenario del amor, aparece el bolero. ¿Acaso no es uno de los ritmos más enamorados que hay? ¿Qué mujer no ha soñado con una serenata al ritmo de las guitarras? Sin duda, es una hermosa compañía para los enamorados.

Esta semana he vuelto a escuchar boleros y a recordar los días con mi padre en su taller. Quisiera sentarme de nuevo con él y escuchar canciones como Madrigal, Hola soledad, Dos gardenias, Te busco, Dile que por mí no tema, Aunque me cueste la vida, En un beso la vida, Fe verdadera… tantas y tantas que nos darán para muchas horas de carreta y ron.

Gracias Pa’ por todos los bellos momentos de mi niñez. Gracias por el café. Gracias por la música. Gracias por presentarme al señor bolero. Te amo.

The Combat of Tancredi and Clorinda

Narrator:
Over the hills the maiden made her way
To find the safety of the town
He thought she was a man of great might
And her defeat would bring him honour

The knight pursued her with a great noise
She heard him and stopped and said

Clorinda:
Why in such a hurry? It is better to ride quietly and easily. What are you carrying?

Narrator:
He answered

Tancredi:
War and death

Clorinda:
And war and death

Is what you will get from me
If you are looking for a fight

With that she stood fast
Tancredi quickly jumped from his horse
And on foot he met the maid
Their courage was hot, and both were in a fury
Both champions drew a sharp blade
Ran towards each other and began to strike
Like two fierce bulls provoked by rage, or love

The fight was wondrous to behold
Though hid in the bosom of the darkest night
The contest was worthy of royal lists and the brightest day
Worthy of a golden trumpet and a laurel crown

Neither shrunk back nor sought for better ground with fancy footwork
They both stood still, each rooted to the spot
Their blows were neither false nor feigned
The night and their rage would not let them fight with art
Their swords clash together with a dreadful sound
As steady as great trees they stand and neither stir nor start
They move their hands but steadfast their feet remain
Nor blow nor thrust they stroked in vain
Shame bred a desire for sharp revenge
And vengeance taken gave a new cause for shame
So that with more fury than skill they fought
They had enough fuel to feed the flame

At last, the battle was so fierce and even
They could not wield their swords, so fought up close
The clashed and swung their sword hilts
And helmet to helmet and shield to shield they crushed
Three times his strong arms he folds around her waist
Three times he was forced to let the maiden go
For she disdained to be embraced
No lover would have squeezed his mistress so
They took their swords again and each
Put deep wounds in the soft flesh of the strong foe
Until weak, weary, faint, barely alive
They both stepped back and gasped for breath
They look long at each other and stand resting on their swords
With sword points driven in the earth
When day break rising with a sudden light
Put out the eyes of blindfold night
Tancredi beheld the streaming blood of his foe
And the gaping wounds and waxed proud at the sight

O vanity of man's unstable mind
Puffed up with every blast of friendly wind
Why do you celebrate? What shall be your gain?
What trophy do you want for this conquest?
Even if you live, your eyes will shed
For every drop of blood a sea of tears

The bleeding warriors remained leaning
The stood in silence, neither spoke a word
At last Tancredi broke the silence and said
(For he wanted to know with whom he fought)

What bad luck we have, what bad fortune
Who in silence and in darkness clash
When the sun's light and our comrades' gaze
Should witness our prowess and our fame
If there is a place for words in war, grant me this
Tell me your name, your country and your estate
That I may know when the fight is over
Whom I have conquered, or who has conquered me

Narrator:
She replied

Clorinda:
You ask in vain, I am not telling
You can pray all you like, or try to use your might
But I will tell you this
I am one of those brave heroes
Who destroyed your tower with fire

Narrator:
Tancredi swelled with disdain at her proud words

Tancredi:
Everything you have said
Your boasting speech and your sullen silence
Has fuelled the anger in my breast

Their anger redoubled they renewed the fray
Though their bodies were feeble the fight was fierce
Their strength and skill were gone
And fury alone kept them fighting
Their swords were bathed all over
In purple blood whenever they hit
And if their hearts were still beating
They only lived because they both disdained to die

But alas, now is the fatal hour
That her sweet life must leave her breast
He drives his sword deep into her chest
And bathed his sword in lukewarm blood
Between her breasts the cruel weapon cleaves
Her breastplate embossed with swelling gold
Her knees grow weak, the pains of death she
Feels, and like a falling Cedar bends and reels
The Prince stretched his hand upon her shield
And laid the wounded damsel on the earth
And as she fell, in a weak and woeful voice
Her last prayers and final words she said
Those prayers taught her a new spirit
One of hope, of charity and faith
And though her life was rebellious to Christ
Yet she died his child and handmaid dear

A loud murmur was heard from the mountainside
And a little stream tumbled near the place
He ran to it and filled his helmet
And quickly returned to do the work of grace
With trembling hands her faceguard he undid
Which done he saw, and seeing, knew her face

O woeful knowledge, oh unhappy sight!
He did not die but gathered his last strength
And held in check the feelings in his heart

Till weak and wearie, faint, aliue vneath,
They both retirde at once, at once tooke breath;
Each other long beheild, and leaning stood
Vpon their swords, whose points in earth were pight,
When day breake rising from the Eastren flood,
Put forth the thousand eies of blindfold night,
Tancred beheild his foes out streaming blood,

Sobre la titularidad de Messi, Rijkaard ha reconocido que podría utilizarla, pero que tal vez los 90 minutos sean muchos.Tal vez, sea titular, pero no termine el partido, o que entre más tarde sustituyendo a alguien. Yo desde mi punto de vista, optaria por la última, utilizando el triplete usado ante el Racing (Bojan - Henry - Giovani) y en cualquier momento en que las cosas no pinten bien, sacaba rápido a la "pulga" y intentar solucionar las cosas.

De momento, Rijkaard ha comentado que ha vuelto ha apostar por usar una defensa contudente, es decir, jugar a la "italiana". Tal vez este no sea el juego que los azulgranas queramos, pero si el que la clasificación nos pide. Tal vez no abunde la mágia, pero tal vez pasaremos, que al fín y al cabo, es lo que nos interesa.

La història fa una mica de por, un rei que reuneix cavallers i soldats morts per trobar la seva amant, assassinada per ordre de la reina. Aquests cavallers zombies són un triple cor d'homes, amb un paper molt dur vocalment que esperem que sobrevisqui a la combinació amb l'orquestra, que només els faltaria als pobres que tant s'esforcen que a sobre no se sentís bé.La intervenció del cor mixte es redueix a uns 5 minuts al final de l'obra, també bastant durillo, notes tingudes gairebé al límit de la tessitura per aconseguir l'efecte apoteòsic i mig mahlerià.

Ara, si aquesta obra no acaba amb les nostres cordes vocals, promet ser tot un espectacle: ens hi veiem!
