I used to not give the Crookers the credit they deserved. Well, depending on how much you think they actually deserve. I am pretty sure I bashed on them in one of my previous posts. Needless to say, I am either a hypocrite or just plain stubborn, because their remix of Kid Cudie's "Day 'N Nite" is off the chain. It was released earlier this summer on A-Track's Fools Gold record label. It is much better track than most of the ones the other records labels got from the Crookers. Peace & Beats

Yesterday wasn't a big news day in terms of political shockers but there plenty of little news items which should get attention in the days to come. Here they are:

Colbert's Green Screen Challenge Winner: This video speaks for itself, but I'm sure you'll see more of it in the future.

McCain Endorsed By Former Torturer: The former top-brass at the Hanoi Hilton endorses John McCain, thinking he'll make or a great president. The BBC has video here, but if you just want to catch the endorsement, fast-forward to 2:48.

McCain Internet Gaffe Almost Bad As "Series of Tubes": McCain talking head and web guru Soohoo gets nailed by web blogger over McCain's lack of understanding about computers and the internet. Apparently, one should know how to use computers to understand their effect. May explain McCain's weak web fundraising.

Oregon Republican Candidate Uses Pro-Obama Ad: Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon puts forth an ad in Oregon bragging about his bipartisan work with Barack Obama. Has absolutely no mention of John McCain.

Obama camp replies, making Smith somewhat of an unwanted son. Spokeman Bill Burton says,

"Barack Obama has a long record of bipartisan accomplishment and we appreciate that it is respected by his Democratic and Republican colleagues in the Senate. But in this race, Oregonians should know that Barack Obama supports Jeff Merkley for Senate. Merkley will help Obama bring about the fundamental change we need in Washington"

Apparently Smith missed missed the part where Obama spoke with Clinton in Unity, New Hampshire. I think this ad probably says a lot about the way Oregon feels about Obama.

Bush... Pulls Another Classic Bush: Still on top for the politically ridiculous however, is our old favorite W. Meeting with President Arroyo of the Philippines, he took time to mention how he personally appreciates Filipino culture.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Madam President, it is a pleasure to welcome you back to the Oval Office. We have just had a very constructive dialogue. First, I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that -- in which there's a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage. And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the -- of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)
PRESIDENT ARROYO: Yes.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And the chef is a great person and a really good cook, by the way, Madam President.

Things are looking very good for the Democratic Party. We're holding all our seats by double digit margins. We're up by double digits in VA, NH, and NM. AK, CO, and MS are tossups. We're down 4-5% in TX, NC, and OR. And we're only down 10% in ME and MN. That's 11 seats that are already highly competitive. And we're talking about Obama country for most of these states - nearly all will benefit strongly from having Barack Obama at the top of the ticket. Obama won 7 of these 11 by double digits, I expect he'll do the same in Oregon, and the other 3 were virtually tied. If Franken can get his groove back, and Allen continues making progress, and the other contenders improve slightly (thanks to the DSCC's huge money advantage), we could seriously be looking at giving Obama a veto-proof majority for party-line issues. Just what the doctor ordered for Health Care and Iraq!

We will continue tracking the polls and posting them as they come in. Currently these show a 5 seat gain for the Democrats (AK, MN, NH, NM, VA) with two Republican-held tossups (CO, MS) and one Democratic-held seat that is Lean Democratic (LA). Many races have not been polled yet.

So... Three months later, but at least I'm back!

Had a reinvigoration on the blogging front thanks to increased and continual inspiration from BK (check out wordbk.com) and an interesting article on self-marketing in Computer Arts, and so I've started what I initially want to be a mini-website for my professional life - what I've done, want I can do, what I'm doing and so forth - to be a sort of online portfolio and record of what I've been a part of up until now, but it's a funny way to go about it when first starting, and it's taking me a while to get the initial content up, so I'll keep you posted.

Rediscovering this blog, I read the blog before last about revenue streams, and while I still like the idea of making the products to sell with the new photos I take, it was the 'Pearson Photography Collection' coffee table book that really grabbed my attention again. With the new camera it can be a work in progress, maybe a book a year/every six months of my favourite and best shots, either chronologically or just aesthetically for posterity and niceness. The idea of people being able to order prints too is a nice one or maybe a way a certain group of people may be allowed certain discounts for putting up with me and my camera. This also echoes ???Merkley's '111???' project which is inspired, and genius, and at a level I would never expect or try to obtain...

Until then, or at least next time (maybe three months again, who knows...) I leave you with Dave Matthews' thoughts from the fantastic film, 'Before The Music Dies' (a must for anyone involved in either the record business, or the music business (see the film), or with any interest in the future of music generally):

"There's a lot of dumbing down going on, but I don't think we need to panic... We just need to teach our children well..."
