Clipse is one of the few performers that I got to see live in concert. And for people my age, we still remember "Grindin'." That song woke us up in terms of what can be felt through the bass of an 808. Even though they haven't had the best of commercial success, I still consider them some of the realest rappers out right now. With their clothing line, Playcloths, coming out soon, it is interesting to see how they'll do in the fashion world. The rappers are not exactly the first place I'd look for my fashion sense, and their line might be reduced to the fate of most hip-hop clothing brands, to churn out played out T-shirts. But the logo has me intrigued. They decided to use a drawing of a young polished paperboy/equestrian to represent their streetwear brand. Who knows where it will go from there?

I'm starting to wonder if 1993 might have been one of the best years in music. There isn't even a reason to wonder why my 7th and 8th grade dances were so cool. Anyway, this weeks video is Ditty by Paperboy, of the album The Nine Yards (1993). I think my favorite line has to be "If I was a vacuum I'd be suckin' up competition."

Dear Santa,

You know I've been good this year. I have not taken any pennies in the tray at the corner store to throw at the pigeons, haven't chased the paperboy for bringing me bad news, and I haven't punted any pugs over the fence, as irresistible as it is... for what, five months now? All just because I knew I wanted something from you this year. Every year so far, I must have done something bad in your eyes, since I never got one single present yet you always take my cookies. I'll be good and refrain from calling you a rat bastard that you are. Yes, I truly must not call you that. I will be good.

But Santa, I'm writing early cause I know what I want already and rather deal with you in the off season. My last letters must have been overlooked by you due to the shear volume of letters you get Christmas Eve. Well, this time I'm prepared. You see, I was on a flight for over 17 hours, a flight which should have taken 15, but due to head winds and a refueling stop in Korea, it took much longer. I believe it was a charade. I saw the flight attendants exchanging food with the ground. Bimbimbap for sandwiches, it was done in front of my eyes. Ham must be illegal in South Korea. I'll find out soon. After this letter they're be a letter to the Feds. In any case, what I want for Christmas came from hours of fighting the old lady for arm rest real estate to cold staring my seat disturber behind me. These situations could have been so better dealt with if I just had telepathy. Then I could just tell them to stop anonymously by booming my voice in their head followed by endless humming until they stop. You know what, why just telepathy, I need mind control, because my willpower was almost broken when the infant chorus opened up a couple rows ahead of me. It was like a musical in a language I didn't understand. One infant would wail and the second one would respond with his/her response. At least with mind control, I could have made them dance around during piece with an occasional chime in from the stewards/stewardesses. I guess with that power I could do more than just that huh? Hmmm... yeah, like make them randomly speak in tongues. That would be funny. You know... I think you're thinking what I'm thinking... yeah, I'd tire of that pretty quick. Guess I'll stick with plain telepathy then. Now if I can only tell my neighbor that I need to get up to pee.

Taxes going up, politicians going down, and myself riding a wave of ecstasy and depression. Due to a rut I seemed to have run myself into, I am currently working two jobs, and study, my main reason for coming to Japan in the first place has taken a major back seat. One of my jobs is delivering papers, which is a major source of concern for those who hold me dear; my day begins just before 3am, which is when I arrive at the store and wait for the papers to arrive, stuff them with adds, tie them to my scooter, and then run up and down the commission housing where I deliver the papers. It gives me a good chance to catch at least the first page of the news; I used to have a subscription, but found that I rarely had the time to read it. So here are some of the more interesting snippets from this weeks news.

Due Process(適正手続[てきせいてつづき]）

The Osaka high court upheld the not guilty verdict of two people found guilty of assaulting a judge, based on the fact that their confessions were given under duress. For a country notorious for its questionable interrogation tactics, to the point where they have even drawn ire from Amnesty International, this is a major win for human rights in Japan, and hopefully a step towards more effective police work in one of the safest countries in the world.

Police seem to have to much free time on there hands in this country; as do many office workers. While the first is definitely a good thing, the latter is a case of this country working harder where they should be working smarter; then again I am guilty of this too, to the point of blowout on occasion

Petrol tax reintroduced - Record High Prices expected

The petrol tax that expired last month will be reintroduced as ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP, 自由民主党[じゆうみんしゅとう]) under Prime Minister (内閣総理大臣[ないかくそうりだいじん], note that this only refers to the Japanese prime minister, with the generic term being 首相[しゅしょう]) Yasuo Fukuda pushed through legislation for the levy on petrol to be reintroduced, as the various oppostion parties abstained the vote. Prices look to hit upwards of ¥160, with drivers heading to the pumps to stock up.

Politics in Japan still defies my understanding; the ruling party has been in control on and off for the past 60 years, despite leading the country into recession, scandal after scandal, ineffective social security systems and increasing the working poor. The apathy of the general public appalls me. Everyone complains, but when it comes voting time nothing happens.

By-Election Victory for Democratic Party of Japan

The LDP's main opposition, the Democratic Part of Japan (民主党[みんしゅとう]) won a comfortable victory after approval polls hit lows of 25% for the ruling camp. This comes after nationwide backlash from amendments to the pension/health care system, with deductions made directly from the pension payments causing confusion due to the lack of prior explanation.

My advice to anyone contemplating retirement here: set up a superannuation fund with a bank outside the country

J-League umpire verbally abuses player

I don't like soccer, but the irony of this incident caused to be on the front of the baseball dominated sports tabloids yesterday. Anyway, the umpire obviously didn't want any back chat so he said 死ね、黙れ respectively. Now, due to Japan's lack of swear words, you could roughly translate it as saying to go get f*cked, and now there will be a hearing looking into all of it. Yuichi Nishimura, the umpire in question has been known to make mistakes in the past, but this probably takes the cake, even though he says he may have been misheard saying something else...

It is Golden week, and despite receiving my scholarship and two paychecks, the former has vanished along with two months of overdue rent, while the latter will disappear on new hockey gear, the monthly bills and keeping myself alive, and more importantly, reasonable happy.

The arrested paperboy during better days.

Chief of Police glad it's over

A shocked neighborhood is trying to understand the ongoing events as it was uncovered yesterday that the Daily Sun's paperboy had been distributing crack, amongst other drugs, in a rolled newspaper on a daily basis to various customers. " Now I understand why the people living there were acting in such a strange way "declared Chief of Police John L. Studenberg. " Men would come out of their houses trying to hit random people, kids would be crossing the streets with their little racing cars without even thinking about passing cars... Even remote controlled cars seemed to be on some sort of drug since they kept on moving by themselves in a continuous rectangular pattern. ".

Below is a reproduction depicting what kind of hallucinations you might see when under the influence of heavy drugs according to scientists.

Private detective given honorary medal

" I have done what needed to be done since... a very long time. "local private detective Charles E. Mangalore said. " I knew people were continuously high on crack - it was obvious. But I had to find out who was delivering it. When I realized no dealers were apparently going from house to house to sell their crack, I had to search for another possible explanation and that's when I thought about the paperboy since the people who were doing drugs were all living on the same street... And everybody knows that this paperboy only delivered on that specific street, so I started making photographs of the little boy and I soon discovered that he was the one who was the criminal. ". Charles E. Mangalore has been uncovering various criminal mysteries before. He is best known for leading police to the famous duck hunter who kept on killing numerous ducks without permit with the aid of his laughing dog. The mayor of the city responded by creating an honorary medal for the event and giving it to Mangalore who, during his speech, had this to say " My next goal is to find out who actually killed Irene, Ryu Hayabusa's first and only love. ".

The paperboy had a list of customers which was found in his personal computer. The white houses were his customers while the red ones were people who did not want drugs. The paperboy would constantly intimidate those people in order to keep them from calling the cops.

Paperboy allegedly threatened non-customers

When called by phone, a neighbor who did not want to reveal its identity described the weekly intimidating acts the paperboy would commit in order to keep them from calling the police. " He would constantly throw newspapers at our windows, breaking them! He was terrible. Once he threw a newspaper at my poor dog and my dog was paralysed. Each and every week I had to buy another dog, but he kept on paralysing my dogs with his god damned newspapers! I am glad he is finally being locked up. "

Below is a photograph of paperboy fleeing after breaking a window.

Below is the paperboy selling drugs to a 9 years old child who was already heavily intoxicated. The boy thought that the sky was the floor and thus he kept on trying to walk on it. He eventually broke his neck and became paraplegic.

Various photographs prove to be undeniable proofs

Detective Mangalore followed the paperboy everyday for almost three weeks, making numerous photographs depicting the boy committing crimes including vandalism, intimidation, drug selling and more. " I do not think that the boy could ever get out of this without spending time in jail... I've done my job, that is all. "Mangalore said. The paperboy who claimed to be innocent on all charges will appear in court next month. Until then, he will remain in jail.

Paperboy's arrest leads to finding out providers were biker gang

As the private detective was making multiple photographs, the paperboy, after his daily routine, met an unidentified biker in the middle of the street. The biker provided him with numerous drugs and then rode away. The police would like anyone who saw this biker to call the local police station in order to collect more information on this man.

So today, day three of the horrific head cold, and my day off from Staples, I had originally had plans to fix some odd computer errors for one of our pioneers. In a freak accident, one of her or her husband's relatives died, and she canceled. I really hope everything will be okay. Also, I am still hopped up on Dayquil/Nyquil and I doubt she'd have me over being as sick as I am. We'll have to fix it on Saturday afternoon or something.

I had some pretty messed up dreams, including one about a growth on my head growing to terrific proportions and weight so that I couldn't stand up. It was very scary, and I woke up wedged between my mattress and the wall, and Jenny, I know you know in my room that is quite difficult to do. I had that good dream about waffles again though: mmmmmm.

Also, this was funny on so many levels. Collegehumor.com

SUNDAY: Finally! Tomorrow morning I start my paper route! I'll have so much money to buy things that normal children my age purchase in stores... of some sort.

MONDAY: Paper route started today. Pretty good first run I think. It was pretty easy because the boss said "Throw papers at the white houses and not the red ones". Nice, I like things simple. Had a run-in with a kid on his tricycle. No big deal, fell off my bike, hurt my knee... it's only skin right! Only thing is that SAME kid was at like three other houses. Anyway... tomorrow will be better. (NOTE TO SELF: Ask boss about obstacle course at end of route.)

TUESDAY: Had an extra house on the route today. Aparently the guy owns a painting company because I'm pretty sure his house was red yesterday... whatevs. Broke a lady's window by accident. Who installs a mailbox right next to three windows!?!?! I think it's cool though because she chased me down the street for a block with a baseball bat, but gave up... must have worked out the anger. SAME KID! SAME TRICYCLE! 4 DIFFERENT HOUSES THIS TIME! (NOTE TO SELF: Remember note on Monday about the obstacle course - tore up bike pretty bad.)

WEDNESDAY: Lady with the broken window canceled subscription but for some reason still chased me with the bat today. I almost ran over some random guy break dancing while getting away, luckily there was a dog that ran out in front of me and I cranked it right into the street - avoided all of them. I'm getting a little worried about the drag racing motorcycles on the cross streets. It seems to happen every day during my route which is odd because I start at 5am. I think one of the guys on my route is a mechanic because there are always random tires rolling around. (NOTE TO SELF: Seriously, obstacle course, ask about it.)

THURSDAY: Getting REALLY pissed at that damn kid on the tricycle. It's like he's at every house now... EVERY HOUSE! Started getting bored and throwing papers at random things. Hit a couple windows today - red houses though... no bigs. Actually, knocked over some tombstones in a guy's yard. I hadn't noticed how creepy it was before today but, come on, tombstones in your front yard!!! Addams Family much? It got windy towards the end of my route... may have seen a funnel cloud, not sure though. I think I'm going to talk to some of my subscribers and have them chain up their dogs. Plus, does everyone on this street own a grey Schnauzer? Anyway, TGIF right! (NOTE TO SELF: Finished obstacle course today, all my friends were there cheering me on... forget mentioning it to boss.)

FRIDAY: HOW WAS MY DAY!?!?! HOW WAS MY DAY!?!?! I'll tell you how my F&*%ing day was! Not only did I break, like, 30 windows... I was chased by that same bitch with the bat and her dog - nearly ran over the breakdancing douchebag again except after that a guy was randomly jack-hammering the sidewalk. He wasn't even breaking the concrete... just sort of bouncing up and down - dick. Oh, oh, oh and after all of that I ran into one of those f&*%ing motorcycle guys. I had to stop the route, go get another bike and start again where I left off. Oh no, that wasn't the end of it! Next block: dog, again, breakdancer, again, jack hammering douchebag, again, bitch with bat, again, random tire, remote controlled car for God's sake and a damn tornado. DID YOU HEAR ME!?!?! AN EFFING TORNADO!!! I'm sooooo done with this job. I think I may join the Army. Heard about these two kickass guys they call the Ikari Warriors. I guess they're pretty good pilots or something. (NOTE: Totally rocked the obstacle course... again!)

I'm sure most people reading this will see the timestamp and wonder what in God's green earth I am doing up so early. Well, on Sunday, I talked to my mother who wanted to know about moving and vacation (how she knew is beyond me) and if I needed help getting a plane ticket as I've never bought one before. I told her I'd figure it out, but guess what? She told my freaky aunt. AKA, not the good one, but the one I yelled at for two hours in that infamous red Ford Escort when I got "kidnapped" (inside joke) to Connecticut. So, fast-forward to about two hours ago. I'm laying in bed, sound asleep when my cell alarm goes off. At least, that's what I thought it was. OMG, she was texting me!

2nd msg. if u need travel booking or advice u have 2 let me kno asap. joyce told me last week u want help & prices have gone up. destination & dates needed. -sic

So I replied with two texts as I needed to get my bearings.

Do you know what time it is?

I got tickets yesterday. Please don't text me again so early if possible.

She, being almost as bad as my mother replies:

You wanted help. i txt u monday & last night. u txt me - do i know the time ?? ya u woke me @ 4 43 a.m. to tell me you don't need me? ? W T H? Early? huh?

So here I am, annoyed and angry.

Look I don't even have your number. I just got the text. That would mean 1 you just sent it or 2 you deferred delivery on it. Good night!

Oh here's the best part.

U R A BRAT. WHY WOULD U TXT @ 430 am ? r u bored or just TRYING 2 annoy me more? go 2 sleep & call after 9 some of us hav jobs.

Uh, yeah, and guess what? That's where I'll be at 9. Thank god there is the no cell phone rule.

Exactly.

So she gets royally pissed, and me, I'm actually wide awake and laughing.

STOP STOP IT NOW U R PSSNG ME OFF NOW I O U 2

*rolls on the floor laughing* Hey guess what, sweetie? Andi's gonna conveniently leave her cell in her coat pocket for a few days...

Wait, no that wouldn't work. I need my cell, as it's my lifeline.

Dun-nun, dun, dun, dun-nun, dun-nun, dun-nun

I'm going to go on a little bit of a rant here. WTF is up with Paperboy. I know its an old game, and really doesn't have any relevence with today's gaming society, but still. What a dumb idea for a game. What were the producers thinking?! I mean, lets do a little imagining here of what went on in Atari's board room that day.

<Flashback>

Nolan Bushnell: Alright guys, we need a new and innovative game that kids are going to NEED to dish out quarter after quarter to play. Any ideas?

Lamest Person Ever: I know! Let's create a game where kids can pretend to have a job! It's genius! Kids are just going to love it!

Nolan Bushnell: Wow! That's it! Let's get to work fellas!

</Flashback>

So lemme get this straight. Atari decides to create a game in which kids can pretend to have a job... WTF!?!?! What kid wants to work, let alone PRETEND to work? I can't even count all the reasons why this idea is the stupidest one in existence. Just to satisfy you readers though, I'll name a few of the reasons why Paperboy is one of the worst games ever:

Kids don't want to work; they want to shoot alien spaceships, munch pixels, and blow up strange creatures with a bicycle pump!

The music is SO annoying. Need I say more?

Since when are there mummies, acrobats, unicyclists, tornadoes, giant house-cats, and the Grim Reaper himself performing their shenanigans in the street at 6:00 in the morning?

Did I mention that the repetitive looping of "Dun-nun, dun, dun, dun-nun, dun-nun, dun-nun" is enough to make anyone's ears bleed?

It's just a plain stupid idea... and yet they still insisted on making countless ports to all the consoles; and even made a version for the Nintendo 64.

So I just thought I'd throw that out there. There's no real reason for it, and it is quite random, but I had it on my mind so I decided to write about it. Here's a "Live Action" video to end off with. Peace.

Paperboy, Simon Belmont, Pac-man, Chakan, and Jason Statham to be Playable Characters

Toronto, Canada-At a small gathering of industry insiders today, a recently fired Nintendo graphic artist, who chose to remain anonymous for legal reasons, revealed four additional characters that will be featured in the company's eagerly anticipated next installment in its' Super Smash Bros series. These additions bring the total number of playable characters up to 28, though the insider stated that Nintendo was aiming for an even thirty by the time of the games' Japan 31st Japanese release.

The bicycle-riding protagonist from Paperboy , whip-wielding Castlevania star Simon Belmont, Namco's iconic dot-muncher Pac-man, relatively obscure undead Sega character Chakan, and (seemingly out of place) Hollywood action star Jason Statham will join the mainstay of iconic Nintendo characters, alongside fellow crossovers Sonic and Solid Snake.

The insider stated that Jason Statham's surprising presence is due to a crossover deal with Lion's Gate Entertainment, and that the March US release of Brawl is to coincide with the release of Statham's The Bank Heist film. Nintendo's Wii will then have exclusivity rights to the game based on the movie.

Chakan, whom most gamers aren't likely to remember, starred in a game called Chakan: the Forever Man for the Sega Genesis. Whileour informant couldn't confirm this, we suspect that his appearance most likely signals a comeback game starring the character.

The informant gave no further details regarding the move sets or abilities of these new characters, instead becoming increasingly agitated and difficult to understand as he ingested massive quantities of cocaine during the later part of the gathering. But from what little could be understood, our insider indicated that Batman, Carmen Sandiego, and Black Jesus might also be making in-game appearances. Your Krooze Nest correspondent was forced to leave the gathering early due to persistent diarrhea, so no further information could be obtained.

Nintendo would not return our calls.

It is my sad news to report that Industry Veteran, Mark Haigh-Hutchinson has passed away at the age of 43, due to pancreatic cancer. His passing occured on January 15th.

Mark's career in the gaming industry spans decades, going as far back as having worked on Paperboy, to joining the team at LucasArts in games such as Star Wars: Rebel Assault, and Dark Forces. Nintendo fans will recognize him from his work on Star Wars: Rebel Alliance and Shadow of the Empire. The developer was part of the original team that worked on Metroid Prime, and was a big part in the creation of its camera system.

So farewell Mark.

The new Mega64 T-shirt, "The Paper Boy," based on the ultra popular skit, is available now! Right in time for the holiday season.

P.S. That's me above the truck as the Ninja and Nate's little bro, Neil, is the mummy. Seriously, I was in the video as the Ninja.

JAY HUERTO

Mega64's "Paperboy" skit is based on the popular and frustrating cult video game from the 80s. Where break dancers, RC cars, and slipper wielding old ladies go out of their way to stop you from delivering newspapers to the people. It's been touted as one of their most popular skits to date. You can purchase the new shirt at the Penny Arcade Store for $17.99 USD.

If you haven't seen the video, check it out here:

I play the Ninja (Even though there never was one in any of the Paperboy games) and Nate Aguilera's little brother, Neil plays one of the mummies.

I'm so bored right now. Home sort-of sick, watching the snow fall. Perfect time for some random thinking.

I was just thinking, I miss playing regular Nintendo. You remember, right? Square controllers, rectangular game cartridges you blow out or swab with vodka to clean them? Have you forgotten the amazing sound effects of Mario's raccon tail? Who can forget the amazingness of Bubble Bobble? I know I am rambling right now. I am feeling nostalgic!

But this game right here...is the bomb...

I hate those non-subscribers SO MUCH! I think I'll knock their garbage can over. Ha ha ha!

On yet another random thought, I had a fun night last night. Who doesn't enjoy drinking beer and pop, lock and dropping it on a monday night?

Can it please stop snowing? I have class again tonight!

Because I'm at a loss for an entry for NaBloPoMo today, I figured I'd dig back in my rich history for a story:

In 1983, when I was 11, I won a trip to Walt Disney World for delivering newspapers. (The old man in me says, "Back in those days, people read newspapers.")

I earned my paper route from a neighbor kid, who at 13 had gotten "too old" to deliver papers. (Old Man: "Back in those days, KIDS delivered newspapers, instead of 40 year olds in Chevettes.")

I had a total of 18 papers to deliver around my neighborhood. I delivered the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a morning paper produced six days a week, which meant waking up at 5:00 or 5:30. You could probably do the paper route in your sleep (and I did). It was basically a breeze but I approached it with a lot of whining and bitching about how difficult it was. Kinda what I do in every job I've ever had.

One day my fifth grade teacher asked if any of us kids delivered the morning paper. She wanted to receive it but couldn't get it in her area. So, smelling a sale, I raised my hand. She told me to see her after class. At that time, basically she asked if I could just bring in the newspaper on my way to school. The simplest deliveries ever, since I was literally already going to school every morning and I didn't have to trudge through rain or snow, or get chased by dogs for doing the job.

Then she told me other teachers had expressed the same interest in getting a morning newspaper. To make a long story short, I gained about eight new subscriptions just by being a school-aged kid dumb enough to have a paper route.

Well, the Post-Gazette entered your name in a drawing every time you got a new subscription. They also made special concession to delivery boys and girls who showed a marked increase in the percentage of new subscriptions compared to their current route. Needless to say, with my huge increase in sales, I blew every other kid in Western Pennsylvania away. As in most cases, success has a lot more to do with dumb luck than actual skill.

And that's how I won a trip to Disney World and the brand-new, amazing Epcot Center. (Old man: "In those days, Epcot was amazing.")

To be continued...
