Local meteorologists had been predicting storms to cover pretty much the entire day.  There were dark clouds in the area several hours before the event.  The show was supposed to start around 7, with the headliner going on between 7:30 and 8.  When we got there, a sign said Pat would be on at 8:15.  Fine.  I figured since there were still well over 1,000 tickets available for the small venue ten minutes before we left the house that maybe they were stalling for more people, but I couldn't say.

After Pat's opening act, the storm came.  And it was one thunderbumper of a storm.  A guy came on stage and said they were powering down to wait out the lightning.  Meanwhile, the little structure that was covering a smaller stage on the lawn blew off, the AMP (which is a big tent) started to shake, and the place where parts of the AMP are brought together over a lighting truss started coming off and the stage got drenched. My mother looked up at the steel and lights above us and got scared so I moved her to the outside part of the tent (thanks to the guy who's name I don't know who helped me lift the wheelchair over an obstruction, you were a big help).When we saw the sky we made the decision to make a break for it and I ran to the car so fast mom swore the wheelchair didn't touch the ground.  We were SOAKED.  But we made it home without catching a cold, and I got to experience what it's like to run through rain so hard and fast that you simply can not breathe.

The weather was not the AMP's fault.  How they dealt with it was.

Like I said, storms were predicted throughout the day.  We knew they were coming.  Now, if I were running an outdoor music event in a big tent, and I knew storms were coming, I would do the following:

1.  I'd use sandbags or some other method to try and funnel any water  away from the seating area so hopefully it wouldn't flood.

2.  I'd have a laptop with a wireless card or at least a computer waiting in JC Penney so I could keep an eye on the radar.

3.  I'd make sure the tent pieces above the stage were pulled down into the truss instead of just connected to the top of it, so if there was wind it wouldn't separate as easily.

The people at the AMP did none of those things.  Water rushed into the seats within minutes of the rain starting.  I put mom back in her wheelchair so her feet at least would be out of the water.  As I said, the tent above the stage started to come apart while we were there.  And as we were leaving, a security guard said they were trying to find access to radar.  Knowing that storms were coming, they should have made sure they already had access to radar.  In my opinion, any outdoor venue should have it built into the budget to have some method of checking the weather at any time.

That wasn't the only problem we had.  Whoever set up the parking situation must have been on something.  If you turned into the first row of cars and got to the end without finding a space, you could not turn to go to the next row.  You could not exit.  Your only option was to do a VERY interesting job of turning around (like we did) or drive backwards several hundred feet and hope no one was behind you (as I saw a few attempt to do).  Plus, a woman told us to park in a handicap spot, but there weren't any that I could see anywhere in the general vicinity.

I thought the whole thing was handled poorly overall.  Add to that the fact that the people at the AMP handle advertising like they hate it (ie you're lucky if you even find out about a show...we saw one commercial the night before and a friend said she might have seen an ad in the paper.  Not even any signs around town.  It's almost like they don't WANT you to come.  Maybe that's why over 1,000 tickets, not counting the lawn, were left when we left the house).

So that's a Heart concert I've missed due to a bronchitis/flu that kept me off the airlines and a Pat Benatar show that storms shut down.  2008 is not my year for concerts.

Elle passa son enfance et son adolescence dans une cité d'Alfortville. Nous y reviendrons...
BibliO habite un petit deux pièces au sixième étage d'un immeuble d'une petite cité HLM (merci monsieur le maire) et travaille à la bibliothèque municipale. BibliO est bibliothécaire, après une maitrise d'histoire, une année spéciale à l'IUT de Bordeaux III et le concours de bibliothécaire territorial. Parcours banal s'il en est. BibliO est Directrice. Elle s'acharne à faire cohabiter treize personnes sur l'emploi du temps affiché derrière son bureau (dont trois à mi-temps, une à 80%, une en disponibilité, deux en formation et seulement trois hommes).
Quand elle n'est pas à la bibliothèque ou dans quelques réunions BibliO fait du trapèze, de la boxe française (vous voilà averti) et milite aux cotés des sans-papiers.
Normal, quoique, BibliO lit beaucoup : Allah n'est pas obligé de Kourouma est son livre de chevet, avec les poèmes de Vénus Khoury-Ghata, Les chansons madécasses d'Evariste Parny et Apollinaire (pas seulement pour la poésie...)
BibliO n'aime pas la viande ; ou plutôt n'aime pas en manger. Se contente de fruits, de légumes, de graines en tout genre ("mon petit oiseau" disait son père éparpillé par une mine sioniste cinq ans après sa naissance). Elle aime aussi le fromage et le poisson, le jus de pomme et le vin rouge ; mais la bière beurk !
BibliO n'a pas de moche voiture, elle préfère assoir son postérieur sur la selle de son vélo, hummm.

   Actually I have been feeling that way as I've been trying to get my website tweaked just right and my internet radio station on air and about a dozen other things done all at once. It's almost 11:pm as I write this and my day is just about done after slaving away over a hot computer all day.

   Anyway, this blog is for listeners of my internet radio station Apple In My Mind. Who hasn't wanted to play DJ and decide what music gets played? Now I have the chance to share some of the music I love with the world.

   Music is a very powerful medium. Who hasn't listened to some gut-wrenching lyrics like Poison's Every Rose Has It's Thorn and identified with them completely or listened to a song like Pat Benatar's All Fired Up  and felt a little better about life. I've told my friends on occasion that if 90% of today's music would get flushed down the crapper no one would miss it. In the course of the next few months and maybe years I hope you'll listen to my station and join me on this blog as we discuss that 10% that has meant something to us, music with heart and integrity that actually matters.  Until next time then ...(as Jim Morrison said) try not to take life too seriously. remember no one gets out alive.

That being said, saturday night PAT BENATAR was at the Taste of Joliet. And so was I. If you think about it a minute, you can name three or four of her songs. We Belong to the Night, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Love is a Battlefield and Heartbreaker (apparently, some song she did for the soundtrack to The Legend of Billie Jean is recognizable, but I don't know the name of that one). And she played all of them. I got my free ninety-nine  worth.

Yeah, I sang along. I put a girl on my shoulders. I'm not proud. Moving on.

I started thinking today about all the songs titled Heartbreaker. There are twenty-five different ones in my Itunes today. The most popular, second to Pat, is the Led Zeppelin jam. And a mighty jam it is. My favorite Cursive song is the one that starts with the Jimmy Page lick you hear at about the 2:10 mark. Jam. Still not my favorite Heartbreaker though.

YO, IT'S TWO MARIAHS!!! AND THEY'RE FIGHTING!!! Ignore Jerry O'Connell and focus on the sweater cleavage. BANGIN. I think this video was the catalyst for my blonde & brunette fantasy. It also influenced Tarantino to use animation for part of Kill Bill*. GROUNDBREAKING. No disrespect to Grand Funk Railroad, Zapp & Roger, or Will.I.Am, but Mariah has the Heartbreaker game on lock. I'm so glad she wrote it about me. Thanks, M.

Pat Benatar - Hell is for Children

Sidenote: I just had to open a new Internet tab so that I could go on Ravelry and look up how to spell "queue."  Even though I look at it almost every day, and should know how to spell it.  Go Susan!!!

Anyway, back to the Knitty patterns I like:

Shetland Shorty: This is a really cute pattern that looks just challenging enough to keep me entertained without making me so frustrated that I have the sudden inextinguishable urge to throw my needles across the room, only to then be yelled at by Shelly, adding to the frustration.  As a general rule, I try to avoid patterns that might result in that.  You know, on principle. 

Then again, I'm kind of over boleros.  I had a whole bunch of them a few years ago, but I'm bored with them now.  I'd rather wear a whole sweater.  Boleros make me think that someone got bored before they had the chance to finish it.

Inverness: I don't know what it is about this sweater that's calling to me.  I really don't.  It's not particularly attractive and it doesn't look like it would be flattering on me.  Maybe there's just something about big comfy sweaters that I'm incapable of resisting.  Because you can't look at that sweater and say, "Gee, I'd like to make that but it just looks like a pain in the neck to wear."  No.  It looks so damn soft that I'm a little happier just looking at it.

This is a pattern that I'll have to wait and see how other people's turned out.

Thira: This is another one that I don't know why I like.  I think that it just appeals to my attraction of impractical summer knitwear.  Like Summertime Tunic.  It's summertime, and I've yet to wear it.  It's too damn hot for a sweater, with or without sleeves.

Seascape:  You know what, I feel a rant coming on that's going to require a whole new paragraph.

I think lacy stoles are gorgeous.  Ever since I saw the Bleeding Hearts Stole in the spring issue of Interweave, I've had the hankerin' to buy some lace weight yarn and make one.  But here's the thing: whether it's Seascape or Bleeding Hearts or any other stole, where am I going to wear a lacy stole?  I'm all for impractical knitting in the sense of tank tops and camis, which are fun to make but in reality will probably never be worn.  But a lot of work goes into enough lace to make a stole.  And for what?  Never in my life have I seen someone wearing a stole.  I don't even know where it's appropriate to wear one, or how to wear one, or when to wear one.

It's probably one of those things where I'm going to have to wait until I'm old to make and wear one, when I'm at the point where I don't really care what I wear in public and I can be like, "Screw you dumb ass, I'm wearing my lacy stole!"

Yeah.  I can't to wait to be old and say anything I want to say.  The possibilities are endless...

On another note...

My Summer Cardigan (not to be confused with the impractical and rarely worn except in the winter, irony of ironies, Summertime Tunic) is 50 or so rows from being done!!!  Yeah!!!

Excuse the excess explanation points.  Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm a regular girl who uses too much punctuation and dots her i's with hearts and smiley faces, instead of a Susan who can't walk in heels, doesn't like to wear make-up unless she has to, only paints her toe nails when Shelly makes her, and has maybe two and half girlfriends, the rest of her posse is made up of guys.  The pretending doesn't last long though, before I sicken myself with the exclamation points and come this close to deleting them before I stop myself and instead write up a paragraph much like this one in the hopes that readers might find it entertaining.  I'm probably wrong, per usual.  But at the very least, you just sat through that entire irrelevant paragraph, so I guess I win.

I'd show you a picture of the cardigan, only it's so close to being done that I'd rather just wait until it's finished so that you can see the whole thing, which is Susan code for I'm too lazy to take out my camera and try to take a good, not boring, photograph, which is not exactly my fortay.
