It wouldn't hurt just to give it a review being like a year late or so.
Since this album was short listed for this year's Polaris Prize (which in my opinion should have won).

For those who don't know, Basia Bulat is a singer/songwriter from London, Ontario now residing in Toronto.
How I heard of her was mostly due to CBC Radio 1 when I started listening to it last year.
Heard the show Q and they had her on the show as a Friday live music and she sounded amazing.
And it wasn't until CBC Radio 3 was streaming thru the web that they were playing her music.

January of this year I finally saw her live when she opened up for Hayden.
She was truly amazing live. 

On the album.
Its full of catchy tunes which makes you want to sing out loud or clap your hands.
The beginning track Before I Knew, is very simple and catchy.
While some songs have the emotion or make you feel emotional on the songs like Snakes and Ladders, Little One and Why Can't It Be Mine.
Others that make you go uppity like In The Night and I Was A Daughter. 

You got to love how she plays the autoharp.
Can't think of any artist who could play that instrument.

Basia is a truly talent artist.

Great album to get before she becomes very successful.

Apparently Chris Martin will release a remix version titled Lost+ with Jay-Z.

So would you say it be a good or bad thing to have a rapper remix a lovely song?

If its going to be like Chris Martin's collaboration with Kanye West in Homecoming, so I wouldn't complain to it.

Maybe true die-hard fans will not like it. 
But I like the single cover.

    The latest called Pagan Love.
    Album is fused with pop, folk, blues and jazz feel.
    The whole album is intimate acoustic sound. 
    Having a big and loyal Ottawa fanbase and alot of support from the CBC.
    No one can be disappointed with this album.

    All the 10 songs in this album is written by her.
    Amazing for someone in her 20s.

    Best tracks on this album are Talk, Song X, Who, Land and Origin of Stars. 

    Favorite one of all has to be Song X, has that jazzy poppy feel and love the drum beats to it.

    I haven't heard of them but my friends were telling me about their music and how they were in Ottawa doing some shows at college and university.

    I've decided not to go to those shows since I will feel awkward being around students and I don't go to school anymore.

    On the album "Oh My ♥" has alot of catchy indie pop rock sound.

    The title track Oh My ♥ sounds abit like The Killers with a mix of fun.
    Burning Pile has that R&B poppy alternative sound.
    Body of Years is the typical alternative rock track.
     
    Overall the album has that influence of The New Pornographer with abit of hip-hop and catchy pop tunes.

    Get this album and you will not be disappointed.

    I finally got to see a whole set of the lovely singer named Laura Barrett. 
    She is so talented in using this instrument called the Kalimba and with her soft singing voice.
    She finally released her full length album called Victory Garden. 

    Overall the album is amazing.
    Not all the tracks are Kalimba based.
    For example Spoiler Alert which has that Kate Bush or Tori Amos influence sound.
    While Shaper Side has that dramatic string sounds with the piano.

    In Victory Garden she is collaborated with Paul Aucoin and the lovely and talent Basia Bulat.
    Basia Bulat appears on the track ferryland and great to hear Basia's autoharp and backing vocals.

    Also the album has a hidden track called Victory Mashup.
    Its very experimentalish and crazy.

    She is definitely and artist to check out live too.

    Stand out tracks: Wood Between Worlds, chidiya, Ferryland, The Sharper Side and Space Seed.

    Tugas merupakan bagian yang tak terpisahkan dari setiap mahasiswa fasilkom. Baik itu tugas pemrograman, tugas matematika, dan tugas-tugas lainnya. Bervariasinya tingkat kesulitan tugas dan tingkat pemahaman pada suatu mata kuliah membuat mahasiswa/i fasilkom harus bergerak dinamis seiring berjalannya waktu. Dengan adanya tenggat waktu (deadline) pada sebuah tugas secara praktis mengisyaratkan penyelesaian tugas tersebut secara baik, akurat, dan tepat waktu. Bergerak dinamis adalah cara mahasiswa/mahasiswi tersebut dapat menyesuaikan diri dengan tuntutan tugas. Namun, bergerak dinamis ini dapat dilakukan dengan banyak cara.

     

    Jika kita coba kaitkan dengan kegiatan mayoritas mahasiswa/i fasilkom selain kuliah yaitu browsing yang erat hubungannya dengan dunia maya. Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa di dunia maya adalah tempat terbaik untuk bersosialisasi (bercerita, menulis pendapat, bertukar pikiran, mengobrol, memberi komentar) dengan/pada orang lain. Maka situs-situs ini gosipnya paling banyak diakses oleh mahasiswa/i fasilkom adalah wordpress, friendster, meebo, SCeLE fasilkom, ebuddy, facebook, kaskus, blogspot, dll. Friendster dan facebook merupakan jenis tipe situs jejaring sosial dimana seseorang dapat bertegur sapa, bermain gede-gedean score, di satu halaman pribadi tampaknya ini tren yang menggantikan situs halaman pribadi. Untuk wordpress dan blogspot biasanya dimanfaatkan mahasiswa/i fasilkom untuk menuliskan sesuatu yang dialaminya (life journal) dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Meebo dan ebuddy masih menjadi primadona web-based messenger karena dulu gossipnya YM tidak bisa digunakan dari dalam kampus khususnya lab komputer desktop. SCeLE sendiri tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan perkuliahan fasilkom apalagi dengan fasilitas forum.santainya sebagai ajang bersosialisasi secara internal di dunia maya ini.

    Kaskus is phenomenon

    Fenomena kaskus sendiri telah jauh hari merambat ke kehidupan maya anak Fasilkom. Kalau di Wordpress dan di SCeLE ada editor text WYSIWYG akronim dari What You See Is What You Get, sedangkan di Kaskus mungkin akan berlaku WYAIWYG akronim dari What You Ask Is What You Get. Dari beli akun Rapidshare sampai posting tugas di kaskus dan mendapatkan solusi konkretnya seperti yang baru terjadi akhir-akhir ini terhadap tugas 1 SDA 2008/2009. Phew...

    Harusnya usaha dulu, belajar dulu. Waktu pengerjaan tugas 2 minggu itu cukup kok tanpa perlu post soal di kaskus (dan akhirnya ada yg post jawabannya..).

    Dengan melihat jawaban (code) orang lain tanpa menjawab sendiri terlebih dahulu, secara tidak langsung membuntukan pemikiran (proses berpikir) sehingga akan selalu bergantung kepada orang lain dan tidak akan pernah bisa mengerti sepenuhnya; ditambah lagi itu hasil pemikiran orang lain. 

    ~buat apa ada forum SDA, tapi ga dimanfaatkan... ~mau dinilai berapa nih tugasnya??

    Menurut saya, hal ini adalah biasa saja. --Kalaupun bertanya pada orang di kaskus, apa hak kita untuk melarangnya? bukankah itu melanggar haknya untuk mendapatkan informasi? Sama saja toh kalo dia bertanya pada orang di dunia nyata langsung. Atau karena dia kurang hati-hati dalam bertanya di dunia maya sehingga banyak orang yang tahu kalau dia mencari informasi ttg tugasnya, kita bisa memberi hukuman semaksimal-maksimalnya? ~bukan berarti saya mendukung apa yang namanya kecurangan, tapi memang begitu kenyataanya, kita tidak bisa membatasi hak orang untuk bertanya dimanapun.

    emang bener sih.. orang berhak mau nanya ke mana aja kan, apalagi gak dilarang juga di spesifikasi tugasnya, mau nanya jawaban 'plek' atau kisi-kisi jawabannya aja. Masalahnya cuman yaa ketahuan atau nggak..

    TS sendiri mengaku adalah peserta SDA tahun lalu. Namun, menurut gosipnye yang beredar TS adalah pemain Dot.A di Fasilkom atau anggota tim dengan nama yang sama di Bem Cup. Jika kita meng-query Google dengan kalimat sulit hehehe scele. Kita akan menemukan salah satu anggota tim tersebut yaitu Adit, orang yang kebetulan mengikuti mata kuliah tersebut, tetapi yang bersangkutan sudah mengklarifikasinya:

    Sungguh beragam pendapat mahasiswa-mahasiswi Fasilkom tentang hal posting tugas di kaskus ini. Terlepas dari siapakah TS hmmsulithehehe di Kaskus yang jelas kejadian ini dapat dijadikan refleksi yang baik apakah proses belajar kita sudah baik atau kurang. Mengenai siapakah TS rasanya tidak perlu dibuat Fasilkomtainment seri Investigasi karena hal itu tidaklah penting lagi ketika masing-masing menyadari apa yang baik menurut norma-norma yang berlaku....

    The Point of the game is a Lion driving a JEEP to save his Animal Friends and once you finish the level It say's YOU WIN! and i think thats the whole game,But there's a Cool feature added also you can make your own Game Level of the game... It's pretty simple and a little cool but the game is pretty Boring :P

    According to the Diocese of London the posting was highly offensive and did not reflect its views, therefore the priest was ordered to remove the post.

    According to the priest his views were meant to be ‘light-hearted jokes’ and were also meant to be ‘satirical.

    This album has grown on me besides being more mellow down than the last one "Set Yourself On Fire"
    Seems to have the feeling of loneliness and sadness except 2 songs which were Bitches In Tokyo and Take Me To The Riot.
    This is kind of a concept album, probably about a breakup.

    The other standout track is the title track "In Our Bedroom After The War" which is very epic.
    It reminds me of the song November Rain.
    Overall the album is amazing.
    Being nominated for the Polaris Prize didn't hurt them at all.

    The latest is Sarah McLachlan.
    For those who may not remember, Sarah McLachlan is a Canadian singer/songwriter and made alot of albums. During the times of Alanis *when she was angry* we had the opposite which was Sarah who sang lots of nice songs with heavy lyrics.
    Big breakthru came with the album Fumbling Towards Ecstacy. 
    I remember listening to that album constantly and how my classmates thought I was being too weird listening to that stuff. Heck I love Possession and Hold On.
    Her biggest commercial success was Surfacing which was in part due to her extensive touring in the USA and starting the all women festival called Lilith Fair which only ran for 3 years.
    Also with hit singles like Adia and Angel (which was used in the movie City Of Angels and various TV shows IE Dawson's Creek)
    Last official studio album she released was Afterglow.
    No wait it was the Christmas album she released.

    Going on the Best of.
    Its all the hit singles packed into one CD.
    But since we live in the age of iPods and mp3 walkmans. We don't need to get it.

    But its great hearing in chronlogical order the songs she has released.
    The only disappointment is there is 2 versions of Hold On and the radio mix isn't what I remember hearing with the loud guitar sound.
    Both sound exactly the same.
    Happy that she has the live version of I Will Remember You and the studio version. I prefer the studio version. 

    Nothing includes new songs in this best of album.
    They are  U Want Me 2 and Don't Give Up On Us.
    Sounds very A/C like but lyricals are dark and sombre.
    I actually like U Want Me 2 and its grown on me now. 

    It would be a good album for those who don't know who she is or for those who still uses a CD walkman and don't want to switch CDs then its worth it.

Of the three 100 Days I've done, these 100 Days have had the biggest gaps in posting. It may seem ironic that this was about productivity and my posting was the most inconsistent. But what I've found, especially over the past few weeks, is that my ability to make choices has improved in both quality and quickness.

    Writing my book takes up lots of time each day, and I'm often confronted with the choice between writing my book or writing for this blog. Mostly I've been choosing the book. This book is the culmination of years of work and has the potential to bring my message and vision to a very large audience. This blog is important to me too, and I recognize that there are seasons in life where we emphasize some things over others.

    So the interesting contrast I referred to is that, as a result of these 100 Days of Peaceful Productivity, I am experiencing productivity to such a high degree (I wrote over 10,000 words in my book last week) that my reporting on this blog has decreased. Funny. :)

    I already have my next 100 Days planned: 100 Days of Peaceful Gratitude. I'll give more details in a few days.
