I found the quote on Margot Potters blog this morning via a twitter comment. I think it describes me pretty well. I belong to twitter and it has turned out to be very interesting following other creative souls throughout their days. It is like a tiny insight to their lives. Some I have met and others I have not. It also made me think of this card. I created it for the Clearsnap booth for CHA. Clearsnap is also know as the fabulous makers of Fluid chalk ink - Colorbox. I love their colors and the quality of pigments. Stamps are all Unity and the paper is Prism. I love the orange peel texture. I used my pazzles for the scalloped shapes.

ATTENZIONE! LEGGERE L'AGGIORNAMENTO IN BASSO!!

It was very enjoyable demonstrating for ClearSnap. The team they have is wonderful. I loved playing with the new products. I brougt some home with me and will upload pictures of the new colors and somethigs I created with the watermark stamp. It works very well. OMG, the stampsets that were released by Unity Stamp Co were TDF. It is not often I am impressed with everything and this time I was. I have a list of... must haves. Not like I need any more but man they are cute. CHeck out the sight on the left. I am off to bed and I wanted to post a picture. No it is not from CHA I did not bring my camera. This is a card from a while back. I still like the feel of it

Are you still using a web browser to access your favourite online applications? Why not do things the easy way, and make those applications part of your desktop with Prism. Scott Nesbitt at Freesoftware Magazine tells you what Prism can do to boost you experience of the web on your desktop -and more importantly, how to do it. Read the full story at FSM. Editor's Note: This story looks at Prism from the point of view of a Gnome user on Linux, but Prism can be used on Mac OS and Windows as well.
Here's welcome relief for skyrocketing gas prices - a home delivery service that brings high quality pet supplies right to your door! The Pet Pantry has been in business for the past 4 years making home deliveries to 6 central Florida counties. Locally owned and operated by sister-in-laws Ginny Blurton and Inga Mueller, The Pet Pantry offers human quality pet foods at a variety of price points, making it affordable and convenient to feed your furry friends a safe, healthy, and nutritious diet. You don't even need to worry about being home when they stop by. They'll weather protect your order and leave it at your front door!

The Pet Pantry strives to be environmentally and socially responsible in their business practices:

Their employees are able to telecommute and live within 3 miles of their Longwood warehouse.

They make 40-50 deliveries a day in their delivery van. Carefully planned out routes help them drive and work smart - typically they drive less than 3 1/2 miles between stops. Their customers save on gas expenses and reduce the impact on the environment by having only one vehicle on the road instead of 40-50 customers driving individual cars out to a pet food store.

[wp_caption id="attachment_141" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Mozilla Prism"][/wp_caption]

sudo apt-get install prism

Hello All,

I recently have been MIA (missing in action) for all intensive purposes because I have been mulling over the idea that one of our fellow readers suggested. She (who shall remain nameless due to respect for confidentiality) suggested that I remove all of the blogs related to David Schirmer because of the negative press and lies and so forth.

My stance is that I believe in the First Amendment rights to speak regardless of whether someone agrees or not. I am in no way interested in censorship. The reason in which I choose to blog is to speak my mind freely without the interruption of other opinions. All of the people in the room (or online in this regard), have a right to express their thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Even within this right to speak my mind, I feel that in some ways I have censored my own opinions to become more objective in efforts to present a fair and balanced perspective. Is there such a thing? When I write, my slant is obvious. Regardless of what I believe or which side of the coin I lean, I still expect and encourage discussion for all sides of the topic to be expressed.

Jamila Crockett's Clarity for Conversation is a forum where Everything We Think About Is Fair Game! And I mean it. If you don't agree with me, say it. There is no harm in expressing ideas and opinions. This is the essence of why blogs are created. People are silenced all across the world. Abuse and corruption prevail in environments where people are silenced.

In this forum, we are allowed to speak from all sides of the prism from different perspectives and with respect for all.

What do you think? Should I take that blog down?

Well, sweet!

I have just been assigned my first project. It is just a simple internal application, but it is going to be used as a test bed/showcase for a bunch of technologies I want to try: WPF, Dependency Injection and O/RMs to name a few. My plan is to be able to turn this into a Silverlight application as well.

I've downloaded a bunch of beta bits from MS, so if they are appropriate, Unity and Compsite WPF (formerly Prism) are going to be used. I've played with Entity Framework before, but this will be a newer version. I think I might even use SQL 2008 as the backend since RC0 just got released.

I'm also going to take a stab at some new methodologies while I'm at it - namely TDD and DDD. This is probably going to be my biggest struggle, since I've worked at placed where we've 'talked' about unit tests, but rarely followed through.

Current mood: excited/nervous/installing things.

This past week, I had a fabulous time hanging out with my friends. I have never partied so much! We

This past week, I had a fabulous time hanging out with my friends. I have never partied so much! We went out every night. I tried to mix business and pleasure, as I have not been on a vacation in some time. I went to Los Angeles. Although I am from California originally, it is still nice when you can get out of the house and have fun without strings or reservation.

Keep in mind, my fun without abandon is still pretty conservative knowing all of the things in the world to do. I don't do drugs. I don't have reckless and irresponsible sex. In other words, I am a Virgo. Enough said.

LOL!

Speaking of astrological signs...my birthday is on September 21st, which means that I am on the cusp of Virgo and Libra; and to me, that is a wonderful thing. In my private life with my loved ones and friends, I am more laid back and free spirited like a Libra. However, in business, professional life, and in most analytical situations, I am very much like Virgo. It baffles many a boyfriend who "just can't figure me out". They meet me with my guard up in Virgo persona. Then when my guard is down, I pop out like a Libra. So, I think what happens is that guys immediately think they have figured me out and probably are attracted to me in one light and when they realize that I am not like that in every aspect of my life, they become disappointed and frustrated and want to leave.

So, it's not that I have a split personality but I will say that I am a prism with many colors.

ANyhoo, I digress. I had a fabulous time in LA! It was way better than I thought it would be prior to me going. I thought that there were going to be a bunch of Barbie Dolls walking around, all cookie cut in the same fashions, driving expensive cars. I looked around and realized that there are more expensive cars per capita where I currently live. The women and men were absolutely BEAUTIFUL in LA! They did NOT look like Barbie at all. I was completely surprised. Now, don't get me wrong, there were some especially in Hollywood that looked like a cloned doll, however this was not the way overall. In fact, I saw more Ken dolls than Barbies. I saw PLENTY of men who had spiked hair, cotton shirts (untucked), dark jeans, and crock shoes with the long tip, as if they just hopped off of the assembly line. NOT all men dressed this way, but enough of them did. Unlike New York or San Francisco or OAKLAND, where everyone has their own style of dress. It was pretty interesting.

I did, though, do a double take on what I was wearing and realized more readily that I needed an upgrade in the fashion department. No worries. That is coming- real soon.

****NEWS FLASH***

So, I have just decided this is going to be an incredibly long blog, because I must completely express myself about my time in LA. So you may need to skim this one...LOL!

OK, for my first night I stayed in LA, I danced and slept at The Standard Downtown. It's a definite recommend. Anyone with a sense of style and design would enjoy the trendy decor. My friend, Frank, made it possible for me to come out to LA. We had dinner at the Bistro on flower and 6th. The food made me sick. That night was the end of sorrow because the rest of the week was divine. I could not have planned it better.

Because I am into film and set design, this trip was candy to the eyes. The next day, Monday, I met up with my girls and we had lunch at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. I had 3 wings, a waffle, and a side of eggs, It was fabulous. Their waffles are hot and buttery. Oh, by the way, I chose to not diet during this time in LA. At first I had intended to do just healthy eating, then changed my mind after thinking about how frustrating that would be...LOL! So I ate it ALL!

When we got back to Mie's (Maleena, my Sisterfriend) house, her friend, Deas came over. He is a professional photographer. When he told me what he did for a living, my eyes lit up because I am a film student right now and I LOVE TAKING PICTURES! I love seeing, framing, and composing pictures.

I jokingly asked if he had any cameras on him. To my delight, he had 2! So for the next 3 HOURS we took pictures of each other and our selves together with interesting angles and crazy poses. It was SO MUCH FUN! I laughed so much. It was like being on a field trip without even leaving. I loved every minute of it.

I think we took about 300 pictures all together. It was wonderful! The next day, I went to see Judd Apatow who was the producer of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and 40 Year Old Virgin. He gave a Q and A at the Writer's Guild Theater. It was wonderful to see more clips of his work and hear his stories about his experiences in the film and television industries. I am pursuing a career in writing, directing, and producing, so I am growing exponentially from hearing other people's experiences.

After the Judd Apatow event, I met up with up with my friend Mike and had drinks and talked until 3am. Wednesday, I reflected all day and went by a mixer in North Hollywood at Skinny.

Thursday, I had lunch with my new Photog Friend Dreas at Fred 62 (great food). I had the best turkey burger I ever had and fries. I wanted to do some research and find out where the Director's Guild and the Writer's Guild were located. I was surprised to see that the Director's Guild does not allow anyone from the public into the build beyond the security guard, who by the way politely handed me a resource sheet upon request.

The Writer's Guild, however, is a huge and wonderful resource for writers. I was able to read the pilot script for Gossip Girl. I was inspired by the thought of being to have that level of access. I will be back to that library.

Thursday night, Mie, Tiffany, and I went to the BEST COMEDY SHOW I have EVER been to. It was in Leihmert Park at the Comedy Act Planet. The Comedy Act Planet was founded by Michael Williams. Mr. Williams has inspired so many renowned comics throughout our time. The show on Thursday was to honor Robin Harris. There were so many Black comics in attendance: Earthquake, Clifton Powell, Luenell, Cory Holcomb, Joey Wells, Kim Whitley, Ricky Harris, and so many others. I laughed so hard. There was not a bad joke in the place all night. Supposedly, they will be having this type of stand-up comedy every Thursday night.

You can see the show ON-Demand here:http://comedyactplanet.ning.com/ click on lower right corner of the video MENU and choose any clip listed with the date 5-29-08.

The next day, Friday, I got a crash course in LA living. My friend Mie needed me to bring something to her at work and I decided to just throw on anything. I wore a beige tanktop, a chocolate brown shirt, pearls (which were on from the night before), and flip flops. The thing was that my hair was poofy and I did not wear any makeup. I thought, whatever, I will just throw on whatever and go back to the house after I leave her job. On the way to Mie's job, Dreas calls and invites me to lunch. I am thinking "Good Lord"! I am not even dressed and I didn't have any makeup with me. I did have the lip gloss but that was about it. I met up with him at Ackee Bamboo Jamaican Cuisine Restaurant. The food was fabulous! I had the Tilapia Fish Stew and accidently spilled some fish stew on my shirt so I tried to blot it out but it wouldn't come out. I thought well, no worries, I will just go back to the house after we eat.

After we ate, he shared music with me. It was wonderful. My time with him. As we said goodbye, I got in the car and got ready to pull away. As I was about to put my seat belt on, Michael Williams, the great man who started the Comedy Act Theater walked up to the car door. He said, "Hello" and asked if I would join him and the group from last night. I said, "Of Course!" because I had so much fun with them the night before and I did not want to miss out of this opportunity. There were about 6 of them all together. We sat for a bit and laughed. GUess who decided to pop up? The LA TIMES!!!! A reporter from the LA Times said that she was doing a story on Leimert Park. I mentioned the Comedy Act Planet and the show the night before and all of the legendary comics that started their careers there. I suggested that she include the theater in her story. She wanted to take a picture of all of us.

Now, imagine what is really going on in my head...my shirt is blending in with my skin color, my hair is poofy, no makeup, skin wrinkled, flip flops on, not to mention...I HAVE FISH STEW ON MY TANK TOP!!! On the outside I was smiling and said, "Wow that's great! Sure!". Inside I was squirming. I was wondering if my teeth were white enough. And also at that moment, I realized I had just had a crash course in LA living because of all of the unexpected things I had encountered. I knew then, that I needed to be ready for anything.

That night, Mie, Tiff, and I went to "The Mayor""s birthday party. We had fun! We ate, danced, made up songs to tracks, and laughed alot. We were up until 3am and I did not want to leave.

The next day, Saturday, Mie, Tiff and I ate at brunch at the Vegan Express. I had a tofu scramble and french fries. After brunch, we drove to the beach in Santa Monica. We meditated and wrote in our journals. There after we went to The Standard Hotel for the Rooftop Party hosted by HONEY, which is a collective of female DJs. They are awesome! We had a great time! We danced into the night. Then headed to dinner at Katsu-Ya. The food was awesome! The decor was fabulous! Dreas met up with us. Also, my frat, Chris, joined us for dancing and dinner:) In fact he pulled the strings for Katsu-Ya because there is usually a long waiting list.

We had fun! Mie and Chris went on to a mansion party. Dreas and I decided to talk. And Tiff drove back to Pasadena.

On Sunday, I left for home early with a new perspective on LA. I am giving huge consideration in the area of moving there. I believe that in order for me to work in my new field in film and television, I must go where the work calls me...LOL! ok...really? I enjoyed myself immensely. LA is definitely a great place for single women because there are great places to shop, fun places to hang out, nice people to meet, and beautiful people everywhere. I am very grateful to everyone who made my trip special and went out of their ways for me in any way. I love you soooo much!

God Bless YOU ALL!

Rainbows are one of the most beautiful spectacles nature has to offer - so beautiful, in fact, that they've inspired countless fairy tales, songs and legends. It's a good bet that most of the artists behind these tales were totally mystified by the rainbow phenomenon. Thus the science of rainbows is really very simple. It's just basic optics.

You know that light is made up of a collection of many colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. That is why a prism can take in white light on one side and produce its own mini-rainbow on the other side. To understand rainbows, you have to start by understanding what is happening inside a prism to let it separate white light into its colors.

A prism is a triangular piece of glass or plastic. To get it to produce a mini-rainbow, you allow a narrow strip of white light to fall on one face of the triangle, like this:

The dispersion of colors in a prism occurs because of something called the refractive index of the glass. Every material has a different refractive index. When light enters a material (for example, when light traveling through the air enters the glass of a prism), the difference in the refractive index of air and glass causes the light to bend. The angle of bending is different for different wavelengths of light. As the white light moves through the two faces of the prism, the different colors bend different amounts and in doing so spread out into a rainbow.

In a rainbow, raindrops in the air act as tiny prisms. Light enters the raindrop, reflects off of the side of the drop and exits. In the process, it is broken into a spectrum just like it is in a triangular glass prism, like this:

The angle between the ray of light coming in and the ray coming out of the drops is 42 degrees for red and 40 degrees for violet. You can see in this diagram that the angles cause different colors from different drops to reach your eye, forming a circular rim of color in the sky - a rainbow! In a double rainbow, the second bow is produced because droplets can have two reflections internally and get the same effect. The droplets have to be the right size to get two reflections to work.

I’d started doing Cute Card Thursday last week, which had a Garden theme, and didn’t

I'd started doing Cute Card Thursday last week, which had a Garden theme, and didn't have time to finish it, so I combined the gems (or in this case Mink Special Edition Zoomz) on to the card to cover both challenges.

Acutally, it works quite well, because The Galaxy put up some Zoomz as prizes on the Challenge this week, so it's quite appropriate to include Zoomz on my card - not hard though, as I use them all the time anyway.

Supplies:

Petrol Blue, Pink & Brown cardstock (Prism) & Whispers White (SU)

Small pieces of floral & green pattern paper (from my Anna Griffin box set)

French Manuscript Stamp (Oasis11E)

Tree For All Seasons Stamp (SU set)

Palette Nor Ink

Chocolate Chip & Olive Ink (SU)

COPIC Markers (keep an eye on the Galaxy these might just be landing any time)

Coffee orzanga ribbon & small cream silk ribbon

Mink Special Edition Zoomz

Nestabilities circle dies

Scor-it board

Concave punch (Creative Imagination)

Fiskars trimmer (the cutting deck bit is getting a bit knackered at the moment)

Pretty straight forward card really, cut out the innter circle from white cardstock, stamped on the summer tree image from the set and coloured in with COPICS. Matted on pink, then green, then brown cardstock.

Stamped french manuscript on pink cardstock twice (one below the other), the cut out and inked on Chocolate Chip ink. Put on a larger than I would normally use matt, and then used then produced ticket corners. Tied round some brown organza ribbon, and a tiny scrap of cream silk ribbon. ** Zindorf's inspiring me so much at the moment, and the sponged on Chocolate Chip ink was a homage to her, also I saw a fabbie card on Deb's blog, and this gave me the idea for using the script stamp (I think the original card came from Heather).

The floral pattern paper was cut to size, and edged with Old Olive ink, then placed on the lefthand side, added the manuscript section over the top, and the circle image over this positioned slightly to the top right.

Zoomz placed at bottom left, and more coffee organza round spine.

I will place an insert inside with a stamped image, and decorate the envie as usual, and also I stamp an old Handstamped image on the back of the card (it's an old SU set that I bought from Caz).

***

In our house, these pesky Sylvanian's get everywhere (as you can see from the pic). Lydia's just taken delivery of the Wedding Chapel, thus the bridge and groom are out for a photographic opportunity before getting hitched!

Thank to Guy I got a better picture of the card than my first attempt, apparently (and as he's just proved) it's not the camera, but me. I think I really do need to invest in a light tent, as I can't phaff around taking things outside to photograph.

Hopefully, when I get a studio outside, then I can have a light tent permanently set up.

I just got back from the Nantucket Conference, a veritable who’s who of the Boston technology

I just got back from the Nantucket Conference, a veritable who's who of the Boston technology world. This was my first time and I met a ton of interesting people. The theme was "Who's Changing the Game" and I learned a lot about what we can do to make SchoolPulse successful.

Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO, talked about the way real innovations can change fundamental behavior. This resonated for me because SchoolPulse is trying to do just that - to get parents and teachers to make the web a regular stop in their busy lives.

Eran Egozy, CTO of Harmonix, and Colin Angle, CEO of iRobot, both shared stories about the long, rocky road to success in the technology business. Many of us have expectations built on internet time, but the fact is that many of the great companies out there took many years to find the the right model before they became big names.

Woody Benson, Partner of Prism Ventures, sat on a panel with Hilmi Ozguc, CEO of Maven Networks. Woody's view is that venture capital investing is fundamentally about intuition -- having a sense that what a young company is working on will be important at some time.

The importance of rapid prototyping and release cycles came up again and again. Do not hold your product or service back until you think it is perfect. It will never be perfect, and if you wait you will have lost the opportunity to get the most valuable design input of all: market feedback.

Christine Petersen, VP of Marketing at TripAdvisor, had some great stories about the success they have had building their brand and visibility with viral tools like their "cities I've visited" travel map on Facebook.

It was great to get outside the office for a few days and talk, at a high level, about what we're trying to do with SchoolPulse. I got lots of good feedback and made a bunch of connections. I'm already looking forward to next year!
