A Tree Grows in Southern California

As you may or may not know, Southern California was recently hit by a large amount of wildfires that destroyed homes and much of its local plant life. Well, Toshiba of America has announced that they will be donating a large sum of money to replenish the trees that were lost in the fires. According to the EcoGeek.org blog:

Toshiba America Inc’s chairman and CEO, will present a fat check to John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, and next spring Toshiba volunteers will get their hands dirty by helping to plant all those trees.

This is not the first move by Toshiba to help our enviornment. Already, five Toshiba laptop computers have been awarded a "Gold" status by the Green Electronics Council, including the Portege R400 and R500, meeting all 25 required criteria and a minimum of 75% of optional criteria, which are:

Reduction/elimination of environmentally sensitive materials; materials selection; design for end-of-life; product longevity/life cycle extension; energy conservation; end-of-life management; corporate performance and packaging.

It definitely makes sense that Toshiba would donate such a large sum of money, considering that Toshiba America's headquarters are located in southern California.

While donating money is a small step for a major corporation like Toshiba, it is a small step in the right direction. I applaud Toshiba and their involvement in helping the Arbor Day Foundation.

You can also donate money to help plant trees by heading over to the Arbor Day Foundation's web site.

Il sito Gizmodo che si occupa di novità hardware e gadget curiosi , ha compilato un’interessante tabella comparativa con 4 modelli di laptop confrontati con il nuovo MacBook Air di Apple. La fascia di mercato è la medesima e si contenderanno il titolo di portatile più conveniente il MacBook Air, il Dell XPS M1330, il Toshiba Portégé R500, il Fujitzu LifeBook R500 e il Sony Vaio TZ150N.

La tabella prende in considerazione una serie di parametri come la grandezza, il peso, il processore, la RAM, l’hard disk e naturalmente il prezzo. A voi il piacere di trarre il vincitore di questo confronto. Io ho già scento ... ho il mio DELL XPS 1330 da ottobre e mi trovo benissimo davvero !!

Nueva versión del Portégé R500

Al parecer Toshiba ya va a sacar una nueva versión del Portégé R500. ¿De dónde lo saco? Me disponía a comprar directamente al proveedor uno con unas características un poco "exclusivas"... Básicamente 2 GB de RAM en vez de 1-1,5 que viene por defecto. El caso es que retrasaron la entrega y, el porqué: no tenían stock. Al parecer están creando una nueva serie. Actualmente en España se comercia la Portégé R500-10J. Qué traerá la nueva? Yo en concreto espero que un disco de estado sólido, ya que se habló de ello en éste portátil (unos 700 gramos de peso con éste tipo de disco) pero aquí no se comercia todavía.

Para los aventureros a gastarse unos 2000-2500 € por ésta pequeña delicia, recomiendo esperarse unos meses a nuevas noticias sobre la nueva versión del magnífico R500.
