believe you're worthy of having your desires come
true, they never will.

I was reading the Sun Times today and ran across a promotion for a new book by Richard Roeper.  The book is called Debunked! Conspiracy Theories, Urban Legands, and Evil Plots of the 21st Century.  The Sun Times gave their readers a portion from this book in an article titled 'The Secret' conspiracy.  Here are some quotes from the article:

I read The Secret, and I have to admit it was very effective on one level: It gave me a decent workout because I had to keep getting up and retrieving the book after hurtling it across the room in disgust.

Rhonda Byrne and her army of associates and disciples would have you believe there's a conspiracy of smart, enlightened people in the world who have long held access to the great solution of success in life -- and you, too, can possess this "inside knowledge" if you just buy the crap she's peddling.

What's amazing to me is that Ellen DeGeneres, Larry King, Oprah, Montel Williams and other opinion shapers have embraced this book when they should be denouncing it as immoral, unethical, and spiritually bankrupt.

Byrne's entire philosophy is based on "the law of attraction," which states that if you fully dedicate your thoughts and dreams and wishes to achieving something, the universe will act in accordance with your thoughts and make these things happen.

Here's how Byrne described it in an e-mail to the Associated Press:

"The law of attraction says that like attracts like, and when you think and feel what you want to attract on the inside, the law will use people, circumstances and events to magnetize what you want to you, and magnetize you to it.

Hence the term chick magnet.

Like a lot of people who have made it, Byrne falls into the trap of believing she made it primarily because she had big dreams and more than anything she wanted those dreams to come true. You get this every year at Oscar time, when some genetically gifted, talented and extremely fortunate person says, "This proves that if you want something bad enough and you never let your dream die, you can make it all the way to the top! If you don't stop dreaming, it will happen to you!"

Maybe. Probably not. There are millions upon millions of people who work hard and wish hard and dream hard -- just as hard as the superstars of the world -- and never become rich or famous or even financially comfortable and respected by their peers. Winners of the life lottery often make the mistake of thinking they tapped into a special kind of belief system that made their dreams come true, when in reality it was probably a mix of hard work, God-given talent, and being in the right place at the right time ...

Even more insidious than the just-wish-for-it mentality is the explicitly stated belief that if bad things happen to you, it's your own damned fault. According to the teachers of The Secret, if you're broke, it's because you have too many negative thoughts keeping money from reaching you, and if you're sick, it's because you believed you could become sick. Without exception, everyone deserves what he or she gets.

This is a stunningly odious philosophy. Are we truly to believe that children born with life-shortening illnesses, that victims of terrorism and genocide, that starving families in Africa should blame themselves for their godforsaken bad fortune? Tell the widow of 9/11 victim or the mother of a child with cancer or the father who has just buried his seven-year-old son who was struck and killed by a car that if only those victims had believed in the law of attraction, they would have been just fine. Go ahead, tell them ...

This is the book Oprah has blessed with two full shows. A book that tells you if you want something or someone, all you have to do is visualize it happening, and it will happen. A book that tells you not to observe fat people, lest their overweightness invade your thoughts. A book that says we should blame the victim -- that if something sh---- and tragic happens to you, you had it coming. A book that says you shouldn't get involved in fighting injustice because it only adds to the injustice.

I believe there's nothing wrong with a little positive thinking. Hell, there's nothing wrong with a lot of positive thinking. If you dwell on the negative all the time, if you walk around with a spiritual black cloud over your head, of course you're going to make your own life and the lives of others more difficult.

But I don't know how anyone can keep a straight face while selling The Secret. The world is filled with positive people who never got out from under a lifetime of pain and disappointment -- and miserable bastards who catch one lucky break after another.

There really is a conspiracy at work here. It's not a conspiracy of enlightened leaders who know the secret of the universe is the law of attraction; it's the conspiracy of self-help hucksters to sell all these cheap, warmed-over ideas to people who are so desperate to believe in quick-fix, New Age "solutions" that they'll believe all this bulls---.

"The Secret" is really bad fiction.  Mr. Roeper agrees with me, and he knows bad fiction when he sees it.

What I refer to here, however, is Rhonda Byrne's The Secret, my entire review of which I shall reserve until later, only to make a small objection to page 28 of my copy. The first 27 pages are taken up with talking, at length, about positive reinforcement and wavelengths and energy (and, despite my tone, I am attempting, for Abigail's sake, to keep an open mind). But on page 28 came this challenging idea:

"Often when people first hear about this part of the Secret [their caps, not mine, and 'this part' to which they refer is the idea that when you think good thoughts, you get good things, in a nutshell] they recall events in history where masses of lives were lost, and they find it incomprehensible that so many people could have attracted themselves to the event. By the law of attraction, they had to be on the same frequency as the event. It doesn't necessarily mean they thought of that exact event, but the frequency of their thoughts matched the frequency of the event... Nothing can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thoughts."

Pardon me, but I find it not only incomprehensible but inconceivable and slightly offensive to think that this woman is suggesting that people who die as a result of murders, natural disasters, road traffic accidents, and so on, die because they were thinking bad thoughts. Is that not another way of shifting blame on to the victim? No wonder people loved The Secret.

P.S. I remember now: it's from a Pantene ad.

Although American culture is different from my own, I still 'take it as read' that the vast majority of Christians (to which audience this blog is primarilly aimed at),  would not expect secular daytime TV to provide their spiritual answers, let alone follow a chat show host's feel-good cheesy philosophy, or expect everyone who claims  to be a Christian or a church goer to be a real Christian - especially in America. As this blog is addressed to the church, and not the world, therefore I have avoided commentating on Oprah, and others like her, up until now. It is not that I don't care about this spiritual deception perpetuated by a sincere and searching Oprah to a sincere and searching world - I do,  it is deeply serious - it's just that is not this particular blog's focus or remit which focuses on deception and other wrongs  within the church.

However, that all said, I recognise that soon enough popular philosphies within the world are repackaged and creep into the church one way or the other. As more and more Christians are throwing away their Bibles, and their brains and discernment (evident from the Todd Bentley Lakeland fiasco), and are embracing everything and anything that feels good, however bizarre or unbiblical, this wordly false teaching will creep into Christian psyche far quicker and more overtly than used to be the case just fifteen years ago (eg pre the Toronto Blessing). I remember how Oprah gushed over Barack Obama during an interview with him on her show before he rose from his obscurity to emerge as the charismatic figure of "change" for our country. It wasn't surprising to me when she stepped out and publicly endorsed him.

Like it or not, Oprah has great influence on our society today, and with that power comes responsibility.  But a huge question remains: is her personal spiritual agenda leading the masses astray?

According to some CBN.com viewers and author Carrington Steele of Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid: Oprah, Obama, and the Occult, the answer is yes. The deeper Oprah delves into new age philosophies, the more dangerous she becomes. This doesn’t mean these skeptics are Oprah-bashers or think she is a “horrible” person.  Instead, there is a genuine concern for the state of her soul, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”  (Matthew 16:26).

Stop Embracing the Church of Oprah

Oprah came from humble beginnings, overcame many obstacles, and has sought to be a positive voice in the world.  She encourages us and is like a loyal childhood friend.

Like a chameleon, we have also watched her spiritual colors shift over the years.  Raised in a black Baptist church in Mississippi, she rebelled against the establishment after being sexually abused by her own relatives.  Later, she repented and returned to her spiritual roots. At one point she was linked to Obama’s former (controversial) place of worship, Trinity United Church. More recently, a 2005 Washington Post   article called Oprah’s popularity the “Church of Oprah,” or the church of possibility. Self-help and self-awareness became her faith of choice.

Every so often while watching The Oprah Winfrey Show,  do you get that feeling in your gut, “the spirit of discernment,” that urges you to flip the channel?  If so, you may not be the only one.

Steele writes that she first had that feeling about 10 years ago. She wrote, “Oprah was interviewing a guest named Gary Zukav, author of the book, The Seat of the Soul.  I decided after hearing some of the conversation, that since it didn’t seem to correspond with my Christian beliefs, I would just not watch that day.”

But how many unsuspecting Americans don’t change the channel?  What happens when the Holy Spirit whispers to Christians and we don’t listen?  Are we contributing to the demise of our society?

“My comfortable, familiar routine was now the source of something that is on the brink of changing America.  It has slithered into our homes and we are not even aware of it, in fact…we’re embracing it,” Steele admits in Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid.

Search Oprah on GodTube or YouTube to watch video clips from her show where she openly states “there are many diverse paths leading to what you call God.”  She argues with several audience members who say Jesus is the only path to God.  Christians understand that worldly success doesn’t equate with true victory, nor will good works earn us a spot in Heaven. We know Jesus is the ONLY way (John 14:6).

We should be alarmed by Oprah’s increasing hostility toward the truth of the Gospel and recent embrace of New Age philosophies like Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth  and “The Secret.”

“Oprah has developed an open philosophy for learning and delving into spiritual matters,” Steele writes.  “It appears on the way to her quest to find the answers, her ‘truths’ have come from a variety of sources that complement each other because they ultimately come from one source; the deceiver, Satan.”

New Age Philosophies Exposed

In Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid,  Steele offers a quick overview of some of the pervading philosophies presented by Oprah to her audience. These supposedly "new" ideas are really just old schemes of the devil wrapped in pretty packaging. New agers recycle the same idea that every man is a son of God, man can be like God, and that we are the source of our salvation.

Most recently, and arguably most lethal, Oprah launched a virtual classroom to promote and encourage Tolle’s A New Earth,  which is a selection for her book club.  Ten million-plus students met online once a week for 10 lessons earlier this year and became “awakened,” or mind trained by Tolle and Oprah. This interactive teaching is still available on Oprah.com.

Basically, Tolle teaches:

• A glimpse will initiate awakening, which is irreversible.
• We are the light.
• Sin means missing the point of exit.
• We have a choice: evolve or die.
• Heaven is not a location but an inner realm of consciousness.
• The source of all energy is within you.
• Jesus is an archetypal figure. He is every man and woman.

Of Tolle’s A New Earth,  Oprah says, “Being able to share this material with you is a gift and a part of the fulfillment of my life’s purpose.”

Unbelievable! We must step in and intercede for Oprah and others of the new age philosophy and pray that their eyes and ears would see and hear the Gospel and no longer be deceived (2 Timothy 4:3, Mark 13: 5, Romans 12:2).

Pray specifically for those who practice new age beliefs, such as:

• Rhonda Byrne, author of The Secret  who believes we think things into existence.
• Eric Butterworth, author of Discover The Power Within You,  who says we are each God and sin is “self-inflicted nonsense.”
• Gary Zukav, author of  The Seat of The Soul,  who considers Jesus the most evolved of our species and mixes Hinduism with everyday beliefs.
• Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love,  who says we are all sons of God, it is our destiny to be as Jesus, my holiness is my salvation, my salvation comes from me, and there is no sin.

We cannot allow false prophets and those with great power to lead us astray any longer (1 John 4:1).   Let’s pray for our broken nation to once again stand on the rock of true salvation.

Yup, it's pretty prevalent especially in people like me. Bipolar boy. It's called the fuck-its.  The doctors have not cure for it. And quite frankly, I hope they don't because I like this disease. It gives me a reason to live on this god forsaken planet with the likes of you people. Yes, you inhabitants of Earth. The human ones. I am not talking about the animals they are cool. It's just people I can't stand. Let's review my lovely few weeks in review. Someone is accusing me of lying when I am not. Fuck it.  It's her problem. Somebody who is wonderful and has helped alot of people is ill with pancreatic cancer and this is the one where there are few options. Fuck it. No one cares. Fucking George Bush just wants to win his war and catch that Bin Laden and line all his oil buddies pockets with money. We can spend billions to send a shuttle up to the space station to fix a fucking toilet, but we can't get the greatest minds on the planet together to cure AIDS and Cancer. No, that would be too altruistic, too humanitarian.

Then there are all the answer people, you know, they know fucking everything. Oh you should look at your part, you should try to understand rather than be understood. Fuck that. I am not Saint Francis and don't want to be. Yeah that brick wall up at this post is the wall I have been talking to all week. What i really want to do is smash my head through it. Oh, what's the matter, is this not the nice blog you thought you would get. Sorry, I am not in nice mood. And not in the mood to be particluarly all airy fairy and spirtual either.  I've dealt with a fair amount of bullshit and verbal cannonballs in the last few days and have reached my breaking point, and emotional/mental Hirsoshima so to speak, so this is a new type of blog entry. It's called the Fuck You blog.  And its pretty much directed towards everyone, including myself.  Fuck you, the ones who are judgemental, who are so quick to put on their robes and point the fingers at others and point out the faults of you. My mother, god rest her soul, she is in a better place and has not had to endure the crap that has come down since she rolled loose of this mortal coil, used to tell me when you point the finger at someone else, there are three more pointing back at you. So as i point the finger, believe me as I point the finger at you, there are three pointing at me, so fuck me too! Sorry, I can't be perfect. Nor do I want to be. Perfect people suck. And I am begining to think nice people suck too. Most of the nice people I meet really are not that nice once you scratch the surface. They always got some agenda. It may be they are trying to sell you something. It may be they got a little passive-aggressive drama they need to engage in, and you are just the perfect ping-pong ball they can bounce around. Watch out for those nice people.  Somewhere up there sleeve or in the back pocket, they've got a two by four just waiting to hit you with it when you least expect it and are most vulerable to it. I have a nice emotional lump on my head right now, and no amount of ice is making the swelling going down.

Another big Fuck you goes out to the so called spiritual leaders of this generation. Pope "I wear only Prada" Benedict, the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, Bob Proctor, Rhonda Byrne, and all you other sorts of enlightened folks. The God i believe in is not short on cash. And you folks with your secret knowlege, with your satin robes, with your pious pontifications and pie in the sky pronunciations, fuck you. Yeah it's very easy to write a book that makes millions and tell everyone else how to be in the now and visualize yourself in your dream house, your dream relationship, your dream career when you already have these things, and lets face it, you got these things and got rich by coming up with tricky ways to tell people how they can be rich, be beautiful, be whatever they want to think. Shit "The Secret" is no secret at all - Rhonda Byrne practically plagiarized the shit from James Allen's "As a Man Thinketh" and Charles Haanel's "The Master Key System" Cribbing from other people's work is not authorship and does not qualify you as a guru.  It kind of makes you a thief. I say if you want something, pray. You got about a 50/50 chance of getting what you want. Yes or no. It' nothing personal. God just may have run out of his quota of Ferraris, Rich Boyfriends, or miracle cures for the day or week. But keep trying.

Another big fuck you goes out to the people who just don't take responsibilty for shit. We see this in corporate America everyday, an institution I wade in while avoiding getting fully into the pool. Again with the finger pointing. Again with the blaming. God, blaming someone else sure makes people feel so damn good about themselves. Quarterly profits down, well hey, lets lay off the janitors, it's their fault, the place doesn't need to be that clean anyway. Finance lost the financial records. Well it can never be their fault, let's find the guy who sent the forms in the first place and make him jump through hoops, and act like it was his mistake when someone was obviosly not paying attention when the timesheets were personally handed to them.  But it's not their fault they fucked up. It's the guy who conscientously walked these papers up to the department and handed them to them personally. Note to all you folks: Always make copies and always take notes. I made copies, but now I have to take time out of my weekend to search for these records, but someone else's fuck-up has become my problem. Fine, but I say a big fuck you to all those who have made it my problem.

Finally, I'd like to personally say fuck you to my neighbors who think they are on American Idol or something. While I appreciate the arts, do I really have to hear you practice your art morning, noon and night. Do I really need to hear your bad karoke versions of "Wind Beneath My Wings". Get a job, pull some money together and rent some rehearsal space.  And fuck my fat ass lazy landlord. Clean the fucking lobby for christ sakes. Show some pride or sell me the building.

So there you have it.  Fuck each and everyone of you and have a nice weekend

Well that is what happened to our family and the Law of Attraction. We sat down one afternoon and watched the movie The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. This is how our family first found out about the Law of Attraction. I had the kids sit down with Craig and I, we popped a bowl of popcorn and got ready. Well. about half way through the movie we lost or oldest daughter Brianna, she just wasn't getting it. Our son Jacob sat glued to the screen as did we. When the movie was over I just sat there with my mouth open. It was like a giant light bulb had gone off in my head. I GOT IT! It all made perfect sense to me. Craig felt the same. Then Jacob started asking questions. We explained it all to him the best we could. (Jacob was 11 at the time but has a genius IQ.) After taking the time with him, Jacob also connected and understood.

About a week later I was reading one of my fitness magazines and there in front of me was an article about Co-Creating with exercise. I read the story of Patricia Moreno and how she started this type of program. After reading the article I still wanted more so I went to the computer and checked out the website http://www.satilife.com . So of course I purchased and exercise DVD to be able to incorporate the Law of Attraction and Co-Creating into that aspect of my life.

A couple of months later I received a call from a lady that had heard about my interests and experience in Real Estate. We spoke about the possibility of me assisting her with her business. She then told me that her and her business partner were very much into the Law of Attraction. I ended up working with them for some time on a couple of projects that they had going on.

Shortly after that Craig and I sat down and had a conversation about going back to church. This is the one area of our lives that we do not see eye to eye on. I was raised Roman Catholic. My mother is full blooded Italian so I am sure that you get the picture there. Craig was raised Lutheran but his family had had a very bad experience with the church when he was younger. When Craig and I first got together and were living in North Carolina I had expressed to him that I really felt the need to attend church. We both sat down tried to find something that we both felt comfortable with. We decided to try a church that was right down the road called Wake Forest Community Church. Well, when we walked in there were folding chairs set up instead of church pews, large projector screens on every wall and what looked like a set up for the Rolling Stones up on the platform at the front of the church. I took a deep breath and knew that I wasn't in Kansas any more. When church was over we walked over to our car and I looked into Craig's eyes and asked "Now will you please take me to church?" We both got a good laugh out of it.  Later, we find out about the Unity church. For those that are not familiar with Unity, it is very much about the Law of Attraction. Well of course we fit right in there and absolutely love it, as do our kids.

So here we are in Minnesota. In my last blog post you heard about how we found a business based on the Law of Attraction and how it has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to us.

Now, our two youngest children Jacob 13 and Jessica who will 15 next month, have been attending public school. I have to tell you, when I left Minnesota 6 years ago I sure don't remember there being bullet proof glass, metal detectors, several police officers and Code Yellow and Red in the schools. Not to mention the gangs. I have been saying for the past couple of months that these schools will help to build character in our children. (Ok, but what else was I going to do? Tell my husband we had to sell our home and move again?) About 2 weeks ago I was cleaning off the kitchen table and going through some mail that had gotten thrown there. In the pile was a brochure for a school, Quest Acadamy. I started reading about it and showed it to Craig. We were amazed! It was a public school but was a charter school. It talked about children learning in a different way then most public schools. It also worked with gifted children like Jacob, where the regular middle school he was going to was rather perplexed at what they should do with a child that was so intelligent. So I called to talk with the school and find out more. Well guess what? You got it, they teach personal development to the students. The firmly believe in the Law of Attraction and help the students to learn how to use this as well as to develop a good understanding of themselves. Needless to say, we have thoroughly checked it out and have enrolled both children in the school for the next year.

So, I personally find it rather amazing how many times in the last couple of years, the Law of Attraction has come into and played a large part in our lives. Craig says that it is because we now know about the Law of Attraction and this is just the natural progression. I don't care what it is to be honest with you, I am just so grateful that the Law of Attraction has come into our lives and has changed them so tremendously.

The feuding authors of The Secret and The Law of Attraction, essentially the same crap heap (it’s MY secret! no, it’s MINE!), profess to love one another despite the misunderstanding over who deserved what million.

We’ve heard the secret before. Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich and Dale Carnegie’s The Power of Positive Thinking were both celebrators of abundant thinking. But long before the newfangled new age, of which I am sometimes a poster child, there was the good old fashioned Bible, and there was witchcraft. Both camps had an astonishingly similar message from the days of yore: whatsoever shall you sow, so shall you reap.

That’s it. That’s the secret. Save your money. How pretentious for Byrne and Hicks to take credit for ancient inspiration.
The secret has made me angry the past while. After a few years of feeling great, the medication that I was using for my thyroid disease stopped working sometime around last October. I became very ill and frightened. I signed out every book the library had on thyroid problems and began sifting again through the information for clues that could help. I continued to make sure I was getting enough sleep and nutrients, supporting my system as best I could. But a whole host of infections and hormone problems made my life a living hell over the winter. Still, life went on. This is nothing compared to what some people suffer, and as always, I try to accept reality and make the best of it.

A well-intentioned but woefully misguided friend dared to suggest that the problems were BECAUSE I was reading about it. My energy hence was on the illness, not on health.

News flash: had I not had a flare up, I would not have had to take any action. I was reading about it BECAUSE of the problem. This IS positive thinking- taking responsibility and action for my health. If thinking about fuzzy flowers and happy romance could make my thyroid better, I wouldn’t have had a problem in the first place. It wasn’t in my head, anyhow. The doctor found, even after upping my dosage, that my levels were plummeting. Because of my take-charge attitude, trying new treatment paths, I’ve found some answers and a better medication.

I absolutely do believe in positive thinking, but I do not believe that negative thinking is to blame for the world’s problems. This is an incredibly immature and self-centred worldview. There is positive perseverance and then there is reality. If our thoughts were the only important thing, every little girl would grow up to be a rich and famous ballerina and have a perfect husband. Every little boy would grow up to be president or the mob boss with a harem of strippers at his side. I believe you have a better chance of fighting a tumor if you think positively. I do not believe people give themselves tumous by thinking negatively. Outside of our thoughts, we also consume chemicals beyond our control. All the positive thinking I do to wish the world a greener place with real food has so far not impacted the reality of the crisis our air, water, and food are in.

The way this thinking goes, then my cat is to blame for his rare blood cell disorder that cost thousands at the vet. He was thinking unhappy thoughts, right from when he was a kitten when it started. I believed he would get better when the vet gave him steroids, and so did he, but he did not. I did not believe he would get better when I started feeding him meat-only cat food, because I had given up hope. But lo and behold, science moved along despite my hopelessness, and his allergy to rice and starches was real. When I feed him the anti-allergenic stuff, he does not develop the lesions. This is not because of my beliefs or his: it is because his allergy to the grains was real!

If thinking or talking about an illness is its cause, then most doctors should be dying off with every disease in the book. Reality check: ignoring your condition won’t make it go away. Accepting reality, learning about it, and striving for wellness with optimal self-care remain your best bet.

It would only naturally follow then that the countries that do not have enough hospitals should have fewer sick people. After all, malaria is just a negative vibe. These people are just so miserable! The mosquitoes are only infectious because they believe it!

Ms. Rhonda says not to worry about aging- only thinking about it would bring wrinkles. I can guarantee, however, that regardless of what she believes about aging, she will get old and die. Every single person on the planet in history who made it past 50 had wrinkles, even gurus and Madonna. So we only die because we expect to? What about the mentally retarded people who don’t even know they are alive? Their brains say they are twelve years old. They believe they are twelve. They still physically age and die. We are talking about reality, people. REALITY sometimes bites.

We’re talking about wishful thinking. And we should all wish, and dream big. Otherwise we won’t accomplish anything at all, too true. But not every little girl who believes she’ll meet a prince and move into a castle does so. Not all of the men who think they are hot, muscular demigods are. It would only reason with the law of attraction that just by reading good porn men should end up with those babes in their bed every time. But reality check: fantasy is fantasy, completely separate from reality! There are a lot of people out there who wish cocaine was cheap and good for you, but it ain’t. And it won’t be.

There are many who believed they wouldn't get fat on cream puffs and fried chicken, but reality intervened. There are many, many, many who thought they'd never become drug addicts just for trying out some heroin. "It can never happen to me." Now that's positive, risky thinking. But it doesn't work. There's a little thing in the way called reality.

Millions of smokers truly believe that they will not get lung cancer. Each one seems to have a 104-year-old uncle who smokes two packs a day. This uncle does exist. There is always the exception. Not every smoker will get lung cancer. But lung cancer will happen regardless of whether or not the person thinks it will.

You can believe with all your heart that the world is flat. Everybody did. But that didn't make it so.

I would always be wary, anyhow, of prophets who insist only they can understand the language of God. I always balked at Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God, in which he claimed that God spoke directly to him. I think God whispered directly into his bank account, but of course, that was because he was thinking of wealth, while I was thinking of making a living. We both got what we asked for, right? Then there is this Abraham business, where Esther Hicks ‘translates’ the spiritual laws from the spirit source. Only she can read the vibrations, and she and her husband Jerry write them down in The Law of Attraction.

While I see a better attitude, one of gratitude, an all-around tonic for a more pleasant existence, and I believe in the ripple effect of random acts of kindness, and I do believe that like attracts like, I also don’t see every problem as something to be fixed. Like my teacher, Thomas Moore, I believe that the theatre of life has a dark side that we must embrace, experience, and witness in order to fully evolve spiritually. Not everything is roses, and not everything is all about us. Also, this is REALITY and there IS poverty and hatred and strife and war, and little ol’ me did not single-handedly cause the giant distresses I witness. I believe in hope and in love, but again, there is reality, and what we want doesn’t always work out. If I could attract what I hope to with my wishes and dreams, I would be bringing back a whole host of people from the dead. If just thinking positively could have saved these friends from depression or methamphetamine or cancer, it would have. Or maybe because I felt grief when tragedy happened, instead of elation, more followed!

Of course, the two-year-old girl must have been guilty of very negative thinking to get a brain tumour and die.

Now maybe these writers are not the sick fucks I’m making them out to be. Maybe they are asking 30 bucks in return for genuinely uplifting books that could give some hope to the hopeless, and I’m making too much of it.

Besides, such deep inspiration is invaluable. Listen to this jewel from Law of Attraction: “When you are clear about everything that you want, you will all of the results that you want. But often you are not completely clear. You say, for example, “I want the colour yellow, and I want the colour blue.” But what you end up with is green.’ Deep, deep thoughts. I’m pretty sure when the starving orphans in Lithuania asked for charbroiled steak and a side of lemon-maple drizzled asparagus, they still got rice mush.

Vibrant, thriving people influence our lives for happiness. Is it really too much for me to let these people become rich off of your suffering?

Well, even if I put all my energy into stopping that from happening, I can’t stop it. Oh, shit, there I go forgetting that my thoughts are the only players! But seriously, our world will be a better place when we start thinking that the starving children in Africa with AIDS brought it upon themselves for being negative. The relatives we love who have cancer thought themselves to death. War happens because all those people wanted it. And so does rape, for that matter- haven’t men been saying forever that ‘she asked for it?’ Well, according to the secret, he was right!

“The law of attraction is the law of nature. It is as impartial and impersonal as the law of gravity is,” writes Byrne. It’s clear the Chinese were having negative, evil thoughts, and so they paid with their lives in the recent floods. Bible thumpers were long saying New Orleans drowned because of its history of evil vices. And those monks certainly attracted those atrocities with their cheerful passivity.

“Often when people first hear this part of the Secret they recall events in history where masses of lives were lost, and they find it incomprehensible that so many people could have attracted themselves to the event. By the law of attraction, they had to be on the same frequency as the event.”

Or, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I doubt that the crack addict’s child who got shot by coming out of the room during the wrong drug deal was actually responsible for the senseless act of violence. Sure, the energy vibrations were negative. But I bet that kid spent a lot of his life praying and believing that his mother would get better. The fairy tale is not always the outcome of our deepest hopes and beliefs. Placebo medicines work, but not always. Group expectations are often but not always fulfilled.

It would have been much more fair and reasonable to say that some things are the result of sin and evil. Some things are the result of chance. So let’s think positively and control the things we can. But that wouldn’t have made these people millionaires.

Think I’M the one being negative and no one meant that little children should get raped if they aren’t happy enough? Well, “Abraham” says otherwise, in a direct response to the rape question.

“No matter what the subject is, it is important to understand that there are no victims. There are only co-creators. You are all, as magnets, attracting unto you the subject of your thought. And so, if there is one who gives much thought to, or one who speaks much about rape, then it is very likely that they will be the victim by their words, of such an experience. Because, by Law, you attract unto you the essence of that which you give thought to.”

So next time your two-year-old cries that Uncle Bill is hurting her, you’d better give her a good spanking.

On the other hand, we all can get away with rape, murder, and robbery with the age-old excuse: the devil made me do it.

Men annars tycker jag om att det kommer fram, det som sägs. Att man kan tänka till sig det man vill ha genom att agera som om man redan har det. Att leva sig in i saker så starkt att man bara VET att det är sant.
Man gör det ju ändå dagligen med sin verklighet. Varför inte bara tänka den bättre och bättre, och hamna där man vill.

Det bästa är att man inte behöver veta hur det funkar för att det ska fungera.

Yesterday night, I was watching a Spanish channel that was promoting the concept of The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. There several well-known actors and actresses that stressed the power of such concept. They talked about the universal Law of Attraction where what one thinks is what occurs. Speaking and thinking positively will change your live. I was puzzled by the convictions that the individuals had as they spoke of this newly discovered concept that transformed theirs live. They mentioned that this concept had been around for years, but that people are barely understanding. I agreed with the last statement because the Bible tells us "What a man thinks in heart, so is he." I am interesting in comparing their concepts with the Bible.
