This morning I got up extra early to attend a Rotary Club meeting. I was going because they had asked me to speak about my experience in their RYLA program. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. It is a program for High School students designed to teach and develop Leadership skills. Over the course of seven months - meeting one Saturday a month - we covered topics like Communication, Problem Solving, Conflict Management, Public Speaking, Self Esteem, Ethics, and others. I really learned a lot from this program and would highly recommend it. But, back to the meeting. This morning after I talked to the Rotary Club about all the things we'd done in RYLA and the things I'd learned, we had a period for questions and comments. Almost all of the Rotarians were shocked at how well I had done and how this program had taught me so many things that they had never learned till later on in life. This made me realize how privileged I am to have learned these things now and to be part of a family that upholds them. When you look around at our culture today, not a lot of kids are service or leadership driven. There are quite a few, but I would say the majority aren't really interested. And I see that as a major problem. People keep telling me that today's kids and teenagers will be tomorrow's leaders. I look around and I do see some people that I think will be fantastic leaders, but I also see a lot of people that won't be. We need to invest in this and future generations! If young people are not taught how to be good leaders, how to communicate well, etc. our country will be hurting for it in the years to come.

So treasure this generation, and make every effort to build them up and to teach them! They will appreciate it!
