If you've recently tried to watch a new release Blu-Ray title, you might have come across some compatibility issues - mainly resulting from the latest anti-pirating ploy by Sony known as BD+. While many of the older Blu-Ray players have trouble supportingthis highly encrypted form of copyright protection, most frustration has come from enthusiasts looking to make backups of these discs. A Blu-Ray movie can cost anywhere from $20 to $50 US, so it makes sense that people would want to protect the originals and make a copy - fingerprints and scratches can only be ignored by the player for so long. To combat this, Sony released BD+, and their analysts claimed BD+ would not be cracked for 10 years

Well. 10 months would have been a more realistic prediction. Slysoft, an Antigua based software company best known for their highly successful program AnyDVD- a program that removes existing copyright protection and other user-unfriendly features of today's digital discs - has cracked BD+. AnyDVD HD now has the ability to decrypt BD+, meaning that users who wish to play or copy their BD+ Blu-Ray dics (all of FOX's recent movies, for example) can do so on their computer for a small fee.

Sony has yet to respond, but with each new user-unfriendly feature they implement into Blu-Ray, expect companies like Slysoft to work hard for the consumer, like they have today. Well done Slysoft, well done.

rimuove la protezione dagli HD-DVD (AACS);

rimuove la protezione dagli Blu-Ray DVD (AACS);

rimuove codice regionale dagli Blu-Ray DVD (AACS);

permette di guardare i film attraverso una connessione digitale, non è necessario avere schede video HDCP e monitor HDCP;

permette a PowerDVD Ultra di eseguire dischi che altrimenti non eseguirebbe;

rimuove le operazioni disabilitate all'utente, potrete cambiare lingua o sottotitoli senza utilizzare i menù;

rimuove il Controllo Genitori;

permette di rimuovere o saltare gli Avvisi e le pubblicità degli Studios;

con la funzione "magic file replacement" puoi personalizzare i dischi commerciali utilizzando uno script XML;

Does anybody really like fumbling with CD cases and DVD cases? Especially when traveling? But if you want to while away the evening with a game or a movie (or even a long, boring meeting -- turn the sound off first!)...

Basically, you need to be able to load the contents of your CD/DVD onto the hard drive -- which will also be likely to speed up response time -- so you can run the files as if they were on the CD/DVD drive. You need a virtual CD/DVD drive. Of course, since you already paid for the CD/DVD, it would be nice if the virtual (or clone) drive software were free. Here are some examples.

MagicDisc is freeware. MagicDisc Virtual CD/DVD-ROM emulates audio, data, and game CDs and DVDs with ISO image, CD and DVD images. MagicDisc Virtual CD/DVD-ROM offers 200x speed and noiseless CD/DVD access without a physical drive. It supports creating up to 15 virtual drivers. You can run games, software, see movies (VCD, SVCD, DVD), and hear music directly from your hard disk without inserting and swapping CDs and DVDs. MagicDisc allows you to use almost all CD/DVD image without burning them onto CD or DVD in order to easily access your favorite games, music, or software programs. It works like a real CD/DVD-ROM: You can run programs, play games, or listen to music from your virtual CD-ROM. It can compress ISO CUE MDS NRG CCD image; can encrypt ISO CUE MDS NRG CCD image; can make ISO image from CD/DVD; It can mount UDF only CD/DVD image and multi-session MDS/MDF and CCD/IMG image. Version 2.6.93 can set DVD Region Code." Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista.

A cég a várható jogi támadásokkal szemben mindenesetre hatásosan védi magát: a SlySoft egy közép-amerikai szigetországban, Antiguában lett bejegyezve, ahol a vonatkozó törvényi szabályozás legalábbis hiányosnak tekinthető.

According to SlySoft, film studios that have switched to Blu-ray may have crowed a little too early because the much-praised BD+ copy protection is no more. SlySoft released version 6.4.0.0 of AnyDVD HD this week and with that came the removal of BD+ when making copies of Blu-ray.

In a statement made last July Richard Doherty of the Envisioneering Group said,

First off, AACS was totally smashed, and removed from relevance, it went the way of the Dodo. Second, as SlySoft puts it,

“It is worth mentioning that since he made that statement only eight months have gone by.”

SlySoft has been sitting on the BD+ removal since December. They said the wait was partly because they wanted to see who would win the format war.

“On top of that, we first wanted to see our assumptions confirmed about the in the meantime released BD+ titles regarding the BD+ Virtual Machine. We are rather proud to have brought back to earth the highly-praised and previously "unbreakable" BD+. However, we must also admit that the Blu-ray titles released up to now have not fully exploited the possibilities of BD+. Future releases will undoubtedly have a modified and more polished BD+ protection, but we are well prepared for this and await the coming developments rather relaxed,”

Peer van Heuen, head of High-Definition technologies at SlySoft said.

...So there you have it, nine years and four months early. Just in time for Easter.

No technology manages to escape the vision of the pirates.. the latest victim is the DRM used in blu-ray DVDs which was hacked by Slysoft a company based in Antigua which produces software for ripping CDs/DVDs. But their happiness might be short-lived as Sony is planning a new firmware for blu-ray players which will be initially introduced exclusively for Playstation 3. The new firmware will make it possible for users to gain access to live content on PS3.

Live content includes mostly downloadable extras.

Most notably, the update enables the PS3 to support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, also known as BD-Live. You can connect now to the Internet while playing discs that support BD-Live to obtain additional content and special features. These features vary from disc to disc, and will keep your BD discs fresh with new content and in some cases exclusive content only accessible to owners of BD-Live enabled discs. On April 8th Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release The 6th Day and Walk Hard on Blu-ray; these titles will be among the first to take advantage of BD-Live. With this update, the PLAYSTATION 3 becomes the first Blu-ray player on the market with BD-Live functionality.
