So come on, and take another little piece of my heart now, baby.

Danke an Herrn Moehrke für's drauf hinweisen:

Jaaa naaajaaa.

Welcome to another session of ARLALAN's podcast...

In interactive products, sound feedbacks usually use to commicate with their users. It is important to have a good feedback that response to the user effectively.. My major design project for next year is a design that involes light, interaction and mood, but if there's some additional element that i could use to improve my design to more efficient, having some sound feedback might spice things up a little. Because everybody knows how music make an impact on our everyday life, and that just some sounds of all sounds. Sounds can make enormous impact on human's emotion and today we are going to experiment with some of the sound clips i found on the net, put together to create mood.. I think the main aim would be for relaxing and peaceful, because living life is not easy so we might need a little rest with some chill-out sounds..

and this is part of ARLALAN's podcast

here's the link to CREDITS

Avoiding the Autoclose and Autoshrink Options

Q
In the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Resource Kit, I read about a procedure that checks all databases

Q
In the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Resource Kit, I read about a procedure that checks all databases for options that you should avoid using. I understand why I should avoid using options such as offline, DBO-use only, statistics off, truncate log on checkpoint, and so on. However, the inclusion of two of the options—autoclose and autoshrink—puzzles me.

Autoclose. Closing a file when it is not in use sounds like a prudent thing to do. Yet I see files opening and closing all the time in the error log in SQL Server, even though I know that I never use the database except for viewing in Enterprise Manager. Does viewing a list of databases in Enterprise Manager make the files open? It makes sense to me to use autoclose on databases that I use only occasionally as import staging areas, and which I access for only a fraction of the time my online transaction processing (OLTP) database is in use. SQL Server Books Online says that the autoclose option is automatically set to YES for the SQL Server Personal Edition and to NO for all other editions. Has this option been included only for the Personal Edition?

Autoshrink. The autoshrink option also sounds helpful. However, would using autoshrink on my import staging areas, where I bring in quantities of data for short periods of time, keep these areas small for backups?

A
Autoclose is available in all editions of SQL Server 2000. The amount of memory you save by using this option is relatively small but might be important on memory-constrained systems running the Personal Edition. However, enabling autoclose for the other editions isn't a good idea, because every time you try to access the database, the query will be slowed by the amount of load time it takes to mount the database. As for the question about your files opening and closing, yes, when you enumerate a database in Enterprise Manager, you access the database, which opens the files.

Leaving autoshrink on for production systems also isn't a good practice (unless you really need to), because autoshrink might start when your system is otherwise busy with production work, and slow down the system. However, enabling this option is a good idea for desktop or remote systems that don't get a lot of DBA attention and whose databases could grow out of control before you detect the problem.

I znów łapię tę energię, wystawiam twarz do słońca, jem gofry z bitą śmietaną i wyrzucam w powietrze czerwono-brązowe liście.

Wracam do domu i nagle w głowie słyszę ten utwór.

A year ago at this time, I wrote about how it was homecoming in the neighborhood, with toilet paper

A year ago at this time, I wrote about how it was homecoming in the neighborhood, with toilet paper in the trees, and how I was going to an informal reunion with some of my high school classmates.

The music I included with that post was from a band familiar to those of us of a certain age from Wisconsin, yet seemingly known only in our part of the Midwest, and only for a short time in the '70s. The band called Clicker.

Turns out, it's almost the only thing about the band on the Web. Google the phrase "Clicker band" and that post is the first thing listed.

Every so often, someone discovers the post and e-mails me or leaves a new comment. Most often, they're sharing fond memories of seeing Clicker or hearing Clicker and wishing they could hear that music again.

As I've answered these e-mails and comments, I've promised I'll write more about Clicker. So we begin.

When Clicker recorded its first album in 1973, it was a five-piece group — bassist Steve Tracy, drummer Jerry "Cubby" Tracy, guitarists Bob Schmidtke and Dick Wiegel and singer Mark Everist. It later became a three-piece group.

I've been exchanging e-mails with Wiegel, who in turn has been in touch with the Tracy brothers. All three of them still live in southern Wisconsin -- Clicker's home base -- and are delighted that Clicker is so fondly remembered.

These days, Wiegel plays in a group called the Midwesterners. Our friend Bill from Milwaukee caught up with him at a show last spring and brought along some old pictures of Clicker. Wiegel enjoyed their meeting and e-mailed Bill's photos to Cubby Tracy, who responded:

“This old Clicker stuff is cool. It’s nice to know that we actually touched some people's lives, and apparently in a 'good' kind of way."

Clicker played all over Wisconsin in the '70s. I saw them in Wausau. Richard saw them in Marshfield, at the Airway Bar. Dean saw them in Minocqua. Bill saw them in Madison, at the Shuffle Inn and the Stone Hearth. Amy saw them in Waupaca, at the Armory and at the Indian Crossing Casino. Dave says he saw them at Madison West High School.

See? All those e-mails and comments are already helping tell the story. There's more to come, too.

For now, though, sit back and enjoy again a couple of the tunes from "Clicker." The five guys wrote all eight tunes, recorded them at American Music in tiny Sauk City and released the album on Hemisphere Records out of Madison. The album is an interesting mix of sounds — a little ’60s rock, a little ’70s folk, a little prog, a little classical — with three instrumentals.

We'll let Mike pick tonight's tunes as he shares his Clicker story:

"I used to go see them play live whenever I could back in the '70s. Once Cubby Tracy even bummed a cigarette from me at a gig in Marshfield -- I was all of 14 years old. ... 'Castle' was a classic, but I liked the inspirational 'Keep on Tryin’' as well."

"Castle" and "Keep On Tryin'," Clicker, from "Clicker," 1973. Out of print.

(Sorry about the album art. I can't fit the album jacket into my scanner.)

...... e adorei!

Esqueçam a imagem e oiçam. São 10 minutos de uma obra prima -

We’ve always had unconventional instruments/guests on sixtoys’ albums. On copy paste

We've always had unconventional instruments/guests on sixtoys' albums. On copy paste & repeat we did a song with a Bass-tuba. On Forbidden War we had the 'child-choir' in the song Heroes...

.. This time we had been thinking about incorporating a marimba-like line in a song called 'Chains On Me'. Our friend Pieter V. stepped up to the plate. He's this amazing marimba - vibraphone - drummer - anything-percussion-musician. We ended up using the Vibraphone on 2 songs and some additional percussion as well. We used kettledrums on one of the songs and a what must have been 60" (1,5m) bass drum which produced this really cool drone-sound. Sunn((((o)))) watch your back...

We had also worked together with an old school-buddy of Peter called Stijn who is this amazing jazzy-violin player. We were working on an idea for the ending of the album. It's this huge arrangement with a lot of additional stuff and thought a violin would really contribute to the feeling we were going for with this. We went to sugarbeatstudios www.sugarbeat.be, and stijn laid down this amazing Baltic-like-line which was exactly what we were looking for... great job! Also, Anton Walgrave, the owner of the studio, came by to sprinkle some of his amazing voice on the track. "One man Kozak-choir". It's really intimidating but inspiring to be working with such talented musicians ... if i'll ever be half the musician each of these guys are i'll die a happy man.

By now this baby is ready for mixing! More on the mixing and the artwork soon! Nice to see so many of you are reading this stuff, hope you enjoy...

cheers

Stuttering, also known as stammering in the United Kingdom, is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and prolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrases, and involuntary silent pauses or blocks in which the stutterer is unable to produce sounds.

Stuttering is generally not a problem with the physical production of speech sounds or putting thoughts into words. Despite popular perceptions to the contrary, stuttering does not affect and has no bearing on intelligence.

The disorder is also variable, which means that in certain situations, such as talking on the telephone, the stuttering might be more severe or less, depending on the anxiety level connected with that activity.

The severity of a stutter is often not constant even for severe stutterers. Stutterers commonly report dramatically increased fluency when talking in unison with another speaker, copying another's speech, whispering, singing, and acting or when talking to pets, young children, or themselves.

In rare cases, stuttering may be acquired in adulthood as the result of a neurological event such as a head injury, tumour, stroke or drug abuse/misuse.

Talking Heads was an American New Wave band formed in 1974 in New York City and active until 1991. The band comprised David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison. Auxiliary musicians also frequently made appearances in concert and on the group's albums.

The avant-garde musical style of Talking Heads combined elements of punk rock, new wave, pop, funk, world music and art rock. Front man and songwriter David Byrne contributed whimsical, esoteric lyrics to the band's songs, and emphasized their showmanship through various multimedia projects and performances. Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine describes Talking Heads as being "one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the '80s, while managing to earn several pop hits."

In 2002, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Four of the band's albums appeared on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the Channel 4 100 Greatest Albums poll listed one album (Fear of Music) at number 76. Their concert film Stop Making Sense is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of the genre.

Here is one way to annoy your step son:
When he comes home from college during the middle of the day

Here is one way to annoy your step son:

When he comes home from college during the middle of the day to do homework, and he sits with his back to you on the couch in your kitchen/family room, and he tries really hard to concentrate on the text book he is reading, make sure to start doing the prep work for Swedish Meatballs for the evening meal which will include crushing dry cornflakes on the counter. Since you discover that you are out of baggies to put the cornflakes in, just place them on a piece of plastic wrap and fold it over. Use a plastic measuring cup with the mouth of the cup facing up to do the crushing, it will amplify the sound of the cornflakes being crushed.

Then stand with a grin on your face as you crush the cornflakes over and over. Watch your step son's head rise slightly as he stops reading to listen to the crunching sound behind him. Crunch the cornflakes some more. Grin. Crunch. Your step son will try to be polite for awhile and ignore the sound. Crunch. Grin. Crunch. Finally he won't be able to stand it any longer and he will swing around with an annoyed look on his face which will change to a smirk after he sees what you are doing.

You will hear, "Man, I thought you were eating potato chips. I couldn't believe how loud you were eating them! What an obnoxious sound."

After a good laugh you can finish making the Swedish Meatballs and your step son can continue with his homework.

That is what happened at our house this week and it is what prompted our latest family poll. I could see that someone crunching "potato chips" loudly was an annoying sound to Squid and I know that I also hate to hear someone eating their food loudly. People chewing with their mouth open, making smacking noises, is enough to send me over the edge. It is a sound I do not like to hear. I asked the kids and Hub what they consider the most obnoxious sound to be. Here are their answers:

*Hub hates it when people rub their hands on latex balloons. It gives him the shivers.

*Though Squid hated the sound of what he thought was someone loudly eating potato chips his real answer to the question is that he hates the loud barking of our dog, Max. Max's bark doesn't match his size. It is louder and deeper than one would think and when he lets it out suddenly in the house it drives Squid crazy.

*Huh says she hates the sound of her alarm clock going off in the morning because it means she has to get up. When Huh gave her answer there was agreement from the rest of the kids that that is indeed a sound none of them enjoy hearing. Mack said, "Even if my alarm was the sound of crickets I would hate it because it is waking me up."

*Juju looked around and then said, "My sound that I most hate to hear is my step sister, Huh." From upstairs we heard Huh loudly say, "Don't make me put a hurt on you!"

*Mack says the sound that most grates on her is Squid screeching Hub's first name in a high pitched voice whenever he is trying to find him.

*Shroom doesn't like the sound of the squeaking belt on Squid's car.

*Hoob's obnoxious sound is the universally hated fingernails on the chalk board.

*Yawlin says he doesn't like to hear babies crying because it makes him want to cry.

Right now I am hearing the sound of Huh vacuuming her room. Now that is a sound I like to hear! :-)
