It's true, I got an email this morning telling me I'd made it to Giant Squid on Squidoo.

I've done 63 lenses on all kinds of different subjects: recipes, English cities, towns and environmentally important places, books and authors, London, antiques and collectibles, designers and Christmas.

What do I get as a Giant Squid? A special template that mades it quicker to make a lens, enhanced ranking and a gold star on my best lenses and a badge on all my lenses. It also gave me a goal to aim at, which I guess is the real object because it encourages people to build lots of pages.

I have to say that I like Squidoo because it encourages a sense of community rather than competition and other lensmasters are mostly supportive.

It is a little bit strange for me but a quite big problem for many users! Hahaha... Maybe it happen to you: your Yahoo! Messenger (YM) cannot connect through your Squid proxy server machine. Why? I don't know for sure, because i used to configure Squid in the past and without configuring any special script there were no problem at all with YM.. I hope this amateur-made troubleshooting could help you a lot :) Correct me if i'm wrong

Turn off your store and access log in your Squid configuration script ( * )

Add a few safe ports in the acl tag body and don't forget to allow http access of these ports ( ** )

Restart the Squid service

If you have YM installed before, uninstall it and clean your registry using registry cleaner (I'm using CCleaner) to clean your YM configuration and registered server in your registry

Uninstall any Firewall Application (kind of Comodo, Zone Alarm, etc.), restart your computer

Install your YM back and set the connection preferences, choose 'Use Proxies' then click 'Enable HTTP Proxy, fill the IP Address proxy server machine and its port

Sign in and you need to wait longer than usual because of delay operation when you use squid

*

#access_log c:/squid/var/logs/access.log squid
#cache_log c:/squid/var/logs/cache.log
cache_store_log none

**

#acl Safe_ports port 1920 5050 5222 5223 1272 9443 20 23 25 119 5050 8001 8002 5100 5010
#acl YM port 1920 5050 5222 5223 1272 9443 20 23 25 119 5050 8001 8002 5100 5010

http_access allow CONNECT YM

Not clear enough guys? hehehe... sorry my english and this tutorial is very bad, i will correct it very soon :)

A friend warned me that eating at this place would be quite expensive.. Yet he also told me that I'd rarely find bigger crabs in other places in Jakarta than the ones that they serve.. So okay, let's try this place..

Well, the place looks pretty comfy for a seafood restaurant.. Their service is also quite good.. For example, they always placed a waiter/waitress near the glass door that leads to the toilets and sinks just to open it for you.. Because of course you wouldn't want to touch the door when your hands are full of crab sauce..

Okay, these are some of the ones that we had..

We had two jumbo crabs, the first one was Kepiting Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Crab), and other one was Kepiting Bumbu Bawang (Onion Seasoned Crab).. The seasoning was quite good.. But their jumbo size is remarkably big for just two person.. Which is good, since I didn't have breakfast.. :p

We also had Cumi Saus Madu (Squid with Honey Sauce) and Kerang Bambu Saus Tiram (Bamboo Clam with Oyster Sauce).. I personally didn't taste any honey in the dish's sauce, but it was sweet and sour, really good.. I didn't like the clams though..

Here are the pictures.. Trust me, it tastes better than it looks..

They are the ones who stays up late habang naghahanap ng sakit ng katawan at adrenalin rush.

Ready to drop their arsenals whenever they feel like it.

This student at Drexel University, Jessica Schiffman, took a picture using an electron microscope of a squid's suckers. These things legit look like tiny little demon monsters straight out of your nightmares. If I were to imagine what the suckers on a squid looked like, I would not think this. So the next time you see or are attacked by a squid, know that you are actually being attacked by millions of little green, sharp toothed, goblins.

Ah, the infamous Zap 2. It’s always featured in the Metro Magazine or the NZ Herald, yada yada

Ah, the infamous Zap 2. It's always featured in the Metro Magazine or the NZ Herald, yada yada yada! And I can see why - it's popular because of its reputation for bringing out some of the best dishes.

It was a random day at work when a friend from Christchurch called me. He was up here for training and wanted to catch up. I thought "Cool", why not bring him out to have good Thai food. So, I thought Zap 2!!! This Thai place is located on Dominion Road, in the suburb of Balmoral. The first thing when we came into the restaurant, it was pretty much packed and this was mid-week. I guess if you're keen on trying this place out, booking is a must during the busy nights. Below were some of the dishes we tried that night:

Pad Ped (Spicy Stir Fried Fish).

Roast Duck Curry.

Phuket Island.

One thing I noticed while dining was that some tables were having their dishes individually. A bit strange when you can share - something I do encourage. If you're worried about hygiene and all, use a common spoon. It's not hard!

Now to the ratings, the roast duck curry is quite the bomb. It's got fantastic flavours with the tomatoes and pineapple. Although I think that they should put a bit more duck in that meal as it was seriously lacking meat. The Pad Ped is also very nice for $14. It's fried fish, stir fried with other vegetables in spicy sauce. A great meal and one I strongly recommend. The Phuket Island was a strange one. It's stir fried chicken, squid and prawn with vegetables. It's got a lot of variety but to me, it's just got that hint of "standard" dish. The word "Phuket" is most likely used to target (market) a certain group of customers - if you know what I mean =) For $15 it's OK but not something I'd buy again.

A couple of negatives about this place. The table that we sat in was very low as if they bought it from a 2nd hand shop. I felt that I was still in kindergarten, and personally I had to hunch to eat my food. Also, they charge additional $2 for rice which is quite uncommon for a lot of Asian places. The least Zap 2 could do with the extra cash they're earning is buy some decent tables and chairs. Anyway, it's still good food!

They have a website and you can check their menus. They also have a branch in the city called Zap 4 and it's not bad. My rating for this place is 8/10. Try the curries and beware of the "extra" cost for rice. If you get a low table, get it changed as it is quite uncomfortable.

Hello people! I just created a new blog entirely about fish! I love food, and food can be broken down into millions of sub-category, and the main categories include: Poultry, Fish etc;

I have chosen Fish for a reason. There are millions of fishes, each with a very unique feature and taste. They also either live in Fresh Water or Salt Water (Most of the poisonous fishes come from Salt Water). But I would rather choose Fresh Water fish just to be safe, but Salt Water fish is tasty.

I just love to touch the soft texture of the fish whenever I go to the market. I also enjoyed poking the eye and playing around with it. Sometimes you can find small fishes inside a squid! Pretty amazing huh? And the fish is not fully digested yet.

Fish also is pretty dangerous, especially those fish with loads and loads of bones. Maybe I'm done introducing the blog to the viewers. Let's get on with the fish introduction (later).

In turbulent environmental conditions 160m years ago the waters may have been poisoned by a volcanic eruption or suddenly deprived of oxygen wiping out much of the sea life.

Dramatic and newly discovered fossil images reveal how voracious squid-like creatures were lured to the area to feed on the huge numbers of dead fish. Some held prey in their tentacles at the very moment they also succumbed in the deadly waters.

The scientists believe it developed into a predator-trap in which victims acted as a draw on new shoals entering the area before they were themselves overcome in a perpetual deadly cycle.

The Jurassic Oxford Clay provided almost unique conditions for the preservation of ammonites, fish and crustaceans but became world famous for squid-like cephalopods and belemnites with fossilized soft-parts.

There are only a handful of areas in the world where creatures have been preserved in this way.

Soft-bodied creatures such as worms and jellyfish probably dominated marine ecosystems at the time but they rarely show up in the fossil record because they decompose and vanish. Much more is known about creatures with decay-resistant hard-parts, such as bones, teeth or shells.

But in some areas - such as the rediscovered site in Wiltshire which the ancient sea once covered - the normal process of decay didn't happen and outlines of anatomy - even soft flesh areas such as gut, muscle and eye - were perfectly preserved partly because of the chemical make-up of the sediment.

The areas are known as Fossil Lagerstätten and provide a much more accurate picture of ancient ecosystems.

The site - discovered by chance as the Great Western Railway was constructed in the 1840s - provided a fossil bonanza for palaeontologists.

Many of the best fossils were removed and taken to London for safety but ironically were destroyed in German air raids a century later.

Because of its rich resources the location of the site was jealously guarded by a local carpenter who was an amateur fossil hunter. He collected many of the samples but provided misleading information about the exact location of the site and took his secret to the grave.

Over time the railways cuttings became overgrown and flooded and were eventually lost.

But now they have been rediscovered by scientists from the British Geological Society (BGS) and their work will form part of The Fossil Detectives an eight-part series for BBC FOUR, funded by The Open University (OU) and produced by the BBC's Natural History Unit, BBC TV series.

In the programmes Dr Hermione Cockburn, an associate lecturer with the OU, leads a team of fossil experts and geologists around Britain looking for the best fossil treasures and mysteries.

Celebrity fossil hunters such as Sir David Attenborough, musician and writer Alex James, and singer/songwriter Billy Bragg also make appearances.

Prior to the new excavation it was unknown whether all of the fossil squid collected in the 1840s had come from one or more level but it showed for the first time that the squid were concentrated at several different levels proving that mass mortality events repeatedly hit the area killing vast numbers of the squid and fish.

The prehistoric shallow sea covered an area from Lincolnshire to Dorset and was bordered by coastal swamps where dinosaurs would have roamed.

Dr Phil Wilby of the BGS described the area as 'a calamari killing field'.

He said it would have been an unstable environment in which the bottom waters continually switched from being able to support life to becoming hostile to life with fluctuations in oxygen level a constant threat.

"As a preservation site for soft-bodied creatures it is as good as it comes and is recognised by palaeontologists the world over. What we don't yet know what triggered the preservation. It may be that there was a build up of phosphorous in the sediment and when the creatures died and sank into it the chemical structure was changed," he said.

The Fossil Detectives is being shown on BBC Four beginning on Thursday August 21.

I have no idea if this comic makes any sense, and I don't care. See, I made a little "ABOUT" section for Meaningless (psst... look over there ---> or click this) and I talked about Squids violently mating... and I realized, I had never drawn that before. So... I drew it. And I based a comic around it.

To be honest, I was at a loss of words for how to expand on that single panel. I considered just leaving it be, and having today's comic be a single, confusing panel of two squids humping while people ran in horror. But, I can't do that. I need at least, you know, two more panels. That's how it works.

Enlightening, isn't it?

'Who is this little monster?!", you ask. Well. This is my friend... The Whalus Waddleus. That's his scientific name... he's more commonly known as the Killer Penguin. I was in Marine Science in highschool & had to create my own marine creature... So this is what I came up with. I know...CREEEPY. Anyway... he's a pretty friendly guy... but in order to lure his prey, The Sanguinary Squid... he squirts blood into the water out of these glands in his mouth. I don't know if you can see the plastic tube sticking out of his butt, but i actually brought some water, colored red with food coloring to look like blood...and during my presentation in class... i used a dropper, put the "blood" through the tube and made it squirt out of his mouth. Unfortunately for the Whalus Waddleus, the squid didn't coming flocking that day. [just for your info... his only predator is the piranha. i wish i remembered the whole story.] The little horn on his head to aid him in breaking out from beneath the ice to get back on land. okay, so he doesn't look that cool anymore, but he was awesome during his prime and i got an A ++.

We first went to the local night market in Taichung. Here there were sold such delicacies as squid

We first went to the local night market in Taichung. Here there were sold such delicacies as squid on a stick, duck bills, chicken butts, livers, congealed blood cakes, pig feet, and suspiciously fatty sausages. I stuck to fried sweet potato puffs and fruit smoothie-type things. Those were both amazingdeliciouswonderfulscrumptious. You could also buy assorted small pets, play games, and, oh yeah, buy almost anything else imaginable. There were a lot of "dollar store" stands, with everything costing 30 NTD (which is $1 US). Oh, by the way, warning, some of my pictures from the market aren't for the faint of heart or animal rights activists.

[caption id="attachment_106" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="squid on a stick, anyone?"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_110" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="trotters done trotting"][/caption]

I loved the night market, the only downsides were the locals who would stop dead in their tracks to turn around and stare open-mouthed, "Mei guo ren!" (American), and my mom's talking to people in Chinese.

[caption id="attachment_109" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="some fruit"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_108" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="the land of giant veggies"][/caption]

We also explored the daytime market. It mostly sold clothes, produce, and meat. All the vegetables and fruits dwarf the produce over here.
