Last time:

Days have gone by and a lot has changed. I put Bear out of the house. Nothing good will come from door L, it was fun while it lasted, but I’m too old for toys. I have no need for anything from that room. I haven’t walked into the door marked G though it’s appeared countless times. I know better. A new door marked TH has appeared. I’ve kept this room neat and clean. Door T has been locked. I put the keys in the closet in door A. Even though the closet is tight cramped and filled to capacity it made no difference; those keys have always had a place in the closet and that’s where I put them. After placing them in there I had some doubt, until I dreamed. It took a minute for me to figure it out. I had to consult with other dream interpreters. Until I destroy the keys to door T, I will never be able to fully unlock any other door, but on the flip side those keys may be the only keys I’ll ever need. Only time will tell.

I added a new room to the house; I call it the party room. It’s just a place for fun and games. If something more comes from it…so be it.

I am awakened by my phone ringing. "We got a delivery" I roll my eyes, place my feet on the floor, and head to the front door. Walking down the stairs I don't even try to think about what the delivery could be. "Sign here." I sign my name and take the small box. I run back inside to open the box. I tear through the tape and open it; a note. "Tread lightly. Delicate and fragile. Can heal any wound, except the one you have the power to inflect." I place the note in my pocket. I'm sure of the meaning, but who or what it applies to I am not fully sure. I walk down the hallway, turn to the left, then to the right, up the stairs, and around the corner. I come to a set of double doors. The maid approaches me, "Those doors look heavy. Let me help you." I look at her, "I don't trust you." She smiles with a hint of sadness, "I don't trust you either...so let's do it together." What do I have to lose? She places her hand in mine and the doors swing open. We wallk through. We're outside on a sidewalk. There's a shopping center and cars. I'm beyond confused! I look at the maid and noticed she's not in a uniform and that we're wearing the same colors. I have on black pants with a red shirt and she has on red shorts with a black shirt. I do not know what to say to her so I remain silent. "I've been doing a lot of thinking since I've been fired from my other employer. I'm ready for steady employment and I want to work for you." She must be trippin! I never asked her to come work for me in the first place, she waltzed into my house and started working, "I don't want to hire you immediately. Perhaps you can come by 2x a week and clean; specifically in the door marked T." She opened her mouth to say something when suddenly a heavy-set woman hurls a cup of coffee at a man, "You muther fucka!" She's yelling at him and he's trying to clean himself. The maid disappears and somehow I'm thrust back into the house. What the hell? Confusion has set in. I breathe deeply and awaken in my bed. It was all a dream. I let out a sigh of relief. I look at my alarm clock, 2:13am. It's too late to call the Dream Interpreter...oh wait...that's me.

Stay tuned....

How I knew that FSU was the right college for me:

It has a great communications school that could help me launch a career in public relations;

I was awarded scholarships to FSU, which would make it relatively inexpensive;

Campus is right next to the state capitol, which would afford me the opportunity to make some great connections; or,

Jim Morrison went there, and if it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me.

Yes, before Jim went to UCLA, he studied art and psychology at FSU! Being that I minored in psychology, there's a good chance I sat in the same psych lecture halls that Jimbo did.

Check out 20-year-old Jim in this FSU recruitment film, in which he plays a clean-cut square who is denied enrollment.

I love the irony. Maybe I'm a bit cynical after years in public relations (and having to create such promotional videos), but Jim - a government-defying rebellious face of counter culture - participates in the propaganda-filled video when he asks, "How come my parents, the state and the university didn't look ahead?". Way to blatantly side with the state school and the government, Jim, in their vie for additional tax dollars.

Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Wired's Scott Thill posted on Monday about the full-album concerts he'd like to see were mortality and inter-band hatred not a problem. His list is as follows:

From Listening Post at Wired:

Top Five Full-Album Wish List That Will Never Come True

* The Beatles, The White Album
* Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland
* Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin
* Charles Mingus, Mingus Ah Um
* The Doors, The Doors

Top Five Full-Album Wish List That Could Come True (Given Enough Cash and Hype)

* Pixies, Surfer Rosa
* My Bloody Valentine, Loveless
* Tom Waits, Rain Dogs
* De La Soul, De La Soul is Dead
* Three Mile Pilot, Chief Assassin to the Sinister

I've attended a number of the Don't Look Back series events in the past and pretty solidly enjoyed them all. Sonic Youth doing Daydream Nation was a highlight but Sebadoh's Bubble & Scrape was pretty spectacular. I'm not going to criticise either list because, barring Three Mile Pilot on the reason of ignorance to their music, I would likely consider purchasing tickets for all of the above. Most fervently, I'd push my grandmother into a moderately deep but soft-bottomed well to see Tom Waits do Rain Dogs.

So here's an alternative list of five I would love to have seen happen but won't, eight that totally could with some charm and finesse on the part of promoters, and five uber-speculative hopes that could, maybe, one-in-a-million odds, happen. Note: All are deliberatly not overlapping with the above as otherwise Waits, Pixies and MBV would be here.

Five that could never happen

The Replacements - Let It Be (they are mostly alive but it wouldn't be the same without Bob)

Curtis Mayfield - Superfly

Elliott Smith - Either/Or

Otis Redding - Otis Blue

Nirvana - In Utero

Eight that could happen with finesse and/or money

Fugazi - Repeater

Arthur Lee seemed to be predestined. A black swan destined to success, blocked by a coitus interruptus in patches inexplicable, stopped thousands of times at the threshold of celebrity, maybe from heroin inertia. A posthumous famed when still alive, adored by legions of rock fans which weren’t enough to put him in the immortal hall of fame, when he croaked on the 3th of august, 2006.

Towards the middle of the sixties, Arthur was a young guitar player and composer, black and skilled, friend and Siamese twin with a Jimi Hendrix dude, and years after he even bragged he taught Jimi some chords. His lysergic and dreamy songs were released by a label which at that moment was standing out, the Elektra. His band, the Love, well represented an already multi-ethnic Los Angeles, with huge influences and clashes: despite of his sophisticated sound, the band was far from the hippie gurus of that time, to whom peace & love brought a full coitus without interferences, coming to the celebrity orgasm, even with a Lsd Half-burnt brain.

Born in Memphis under the sign of Pisces, Arthur Porter Taylor was a lonely child in the big city, escaped from school straight in the L.A. of basket and then rock. He was sure to succeed and also Elektra, which put him under contract as a young hopeful, rebellion offspring in an age when real or so called rebels made out billions very easily. Lee was handsome, he shot heroin and he wrote awesome songs, sweet and violent ones: in a word, he fulfilled the requirements needed to become a myth, he had fate signs, but… one day, the owners of his label watched on stage a problematical guy named Jim Morrison, suddenly put him and his sexual charge of a Robin Williams sixties under contract with the Doors, and from that moment the poor Arthur was diddled and fucked up; before you could say knife, for the record attrib. he was a coitus interruptus, just a used condom. So, Lee and his pals thought they could behave as jerks with journalists and fans, just to attract attention, but it was ten years before the coming of Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten, and back in the age of the Summer of love the idea didn’t work so much, rather the band ended on the black list of magazines and promoters. Their songs were often masterpieces, but they were out of time too: the most famous one, Seven and Seven is, became a garage-punk hymn, but only after some decades, at the time when Arthur was already on his absconding way, despite of all his efforts to revive himself.

Between them, the recording of a duet album with the friend-rival Jimi Hendrix, which for mysterious reasons have never been released. But there’s nothing to be astounded to, this kind of stuff is typical of coitus interruptus careers, isn’t it? In the ‘90s he went to jail as well, sentenced to 8 years for shooting a neighbor, however if without hurting him. But if your fame stumbled somewhere, if it stayed outside a door you could not unhinge, it could also happen to you that in the country where some people gets a gun just opening a bank account, you may end in jail for illegal possession of a firearm…

Yeah... I used to be a big Doors fan. Who wasn't at some point in adolescence? I pretty much memorized every nuance of every song, off every album. From Break On Through (first song off the first album, The Doors) through their last song on their last album (Riders On The Storm/ L.A. Woman), I thought Jimbo & Crew were the bomb. From electric shaman to Dionysus to Lizard King to fat, bearded film director, Jim Morrison epitomized hippie coolness to me as an early teen.

I actually recently read that old Ray Manzarek is claiming again that Jim told him that he wanted to disappear to Seychelles about a year before his death. Do you think he could be still alive??? Hell no, Ray! He's dead! Quit feeding this myth about him faking his death! I thought that he had already conceded that Jim was dead. Ray even wrote a book a few years ago that discussed a FICTIONAL account of a rocker/poet that wanted to get out of the rock-star lifestyle. The rocker faked his death and became a religious man on a far-away island and would periodically send his bandmate brief postcards. I didn't read it, but I know that a bunch of "Morrison is ALIVE" conspiracy nuts did. And Ray, I know this hurts, but John Densmore's autobiography was much better than your pretentious book. I mean come on, do you have to sell us on each of your albums and videos on every page?

Anyway, this became longer than I initially planned. Here's a clip of The Doors recording their last studio album, L.A. Woman. The track is Crawling King Snake, which is a cover of an old John Lee Hooker song.

My name is Janet and I am a Library Assistant in the Children’s Department at the West Palm Beach Public Library. What do I do? Hmmm…I am fortunate to be able to work with our patrons on a daily basis at the children’s desk. I also enjoy creating book displays and playing around with computer graphics and tech stuff. I love to learn new things. Sometimes I wish a person could just download knowledge straight to memory like in the movie The Matrix. There are just so many cool things to learn. Maybe that is how I ended up in a library. Everyday I get new questions to research and answer.

But I’m not always behind the desk, our children’s special events at the library are unlike any I know of and I have been able to be the “set designer” for many of them. Creating and building imaginary, interactive worlds from recyclables and any item that can be begged, borrowed, or found at the curbside is a rewarding challenge. Check out our flickr account, it’s easier to see than to describe!

My tastes for books, music, and movies are as varied as our library collection. Some of my favorite kids’ books are Skippyjon Jones and Ugly Fish. One of the better children’s book-to-movie adaptations I enjoyed was The Spiderwick Chronicles – which was a nice treat, I’m almost always disappointed when Hollywood steps into the literary world. (I got to meet one of the authors Tony DiTerlizzi at our library here! Very cool dude!) My music ranges from back in the day like Pink Floyd or The Doors, to whatever new my teenagers are listening to like My Chemical Romance or Three Days Grace. I like most anything, depending on my mood.

That’s enough of me for now. What’s your story?

Laidies and Gentelmen! The Doors!

Artista: Celine Dion
Música: You Shook Me All Night Long
Artista (original): AC-DC

Artista: Danni Carlos
Música: Stayin' Alive
Artista (original): Bee Gees

Artista: Will Young
Música: Light My Fire
Artista (original): Doors, The

Artista: Westlife
Música: More Than Words
Artista (original): Extreme

Artista: Sex Pistols
Música: My Way
Artista (original): Frank Sinatra

The album I have chosen this week is my favorite Doors album: L.A. Woman! I really love the sound on this album. It's gonna be hard just picking out three favorite songs from it, but I'll give it a shot:

Love Her Madly (probably my all time favorite Doors song)

The Changeling

L.A. Woman

This album sound more blues-like than most of the other Doors albums and thats probably why I like it so much. Read more about the album over at Wikipedia.

A serpente tem novo olhar. Para os sedentos, hipnótico. Para os cépticos, dúbio. Para os purista

A serpente tem novo olhar. Para os sedentos, hipnótico. Para os cépticos, dúbio. Para os puristas, arrepiante. Só a indiferença não encontra aqui lugar. Jim Morrison morreu - viva Jim Morrison.

A voz dos Riders On The Storm é agora a do ex-Fuel Brett Scallions.

Enquanto a discussão continua, a banda vai esgotando concertos.

It was our ever-reliable, finger-picking guitarist, Tom Halim, who finally figured out the chords to

It was our ever-reliable, finger-picking guitarist, Tom Halim, who finally figured out the chords to this song. For our last gig, we wanted to play this song partly because I've never seen any Pinoy band cover this song, at least in the music scene I was part of in the late 90s. Of course, we loved The Doors but we didn't want to cover Break on Through or Light My Fire.

Last Band. After deciding to quit playing after I disbanded Flowers for Zoe in 96, I found myself aching to play again four years later. When we had rehearsed a few songs to last us at least a set, we decided to perform again. Good thing, my friend Khavn (who was stil Khan then) had a bar called Oracafe along Kamias Road. It was there where my band, re-christened Milk Bar (after a Anthony Burgess' Clockwork Orange) performed covers of Radiohead, Belle and Sebastian, Tommy James and the Shondels, Velvet Underground and a few of our original songs from Flowers for Zoe.

Eventually, our song Wasakin ang Pader would end up in the Khavn's DIY production of Indie Yo!, a compilation of new alternative music mashed up with some found sounds. The song is different from my previous ones in the sense that I used my baritone here and not the high-pitched punk voice.

Tell Me When. When I first heard Touch Me, I thought it was the best song the Doors ever wrote. It was different from their hits and more something like Engelbert Humperdinck would perform. I thought it was more along the leagues of Cuando, Cuando than Roadhouse Blues. And because of this 'abomination,' I found it quite brave, avant-garde if you will, for them to sing this. Hello, I Love You is another different one as well as most songs in The Soft Parade album, but Touch Me makes macho rockers a bit uncomfortable.

I like how the brass section breathes in a fresh and ecstatic feel about the band which I usually associate with goth - dark as [ their song] The End-dark. With Touch Me, it was a different Jim Morrison with sideburns, pompadour and a flowery shirt barely buttoned.

Til Stars Fall From the Sky. So Tom taught us the chords and the random number of times the last bar would be repeated. Instead of the brass section, we had guitars. We surely did have the energy and the balls to perform it live but we never did. We weren't able to perform in our supposed last gig for some reason or other. Our second to the last gig, a forgettable one at that, became the final performance of Milk Bar.

Before you click on the video, check out this interesting wikipedia entry about it:

One of the most famous television appearances of the Doors is of the group performing Touch Me on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour along with the single's B-side, Wild Child. During the performance, Jim Morrison missed his cue for the lines "C'mon, c'mon" and Robby Krieger could be seen with a black eye—the result of a bar fight the night before. (click here for the complete article)
