You: "I'm gonna write movies."

Uncle Cliche: "Well, what's your back up plan?"

You: "...To write movies?"

Uncle Cliche: "What else?"

You've probably had a conversation like that more than once if you're goal is to be a screenwriter. It's such an impossible business to get into, and everyone is ready to tell you that. It's not that they don't support your dream, they're just well aware that one day you'll actually have bills to pay, kids to feed, and leaky faucets to fix because your hungry children tried to eat the pipes. Oh, god, I'm afraid of the future.

The unfortunate thing is these people are right. Most writers don't make it, or, if they do, their success doesn't last long (there are countless Vanilla Ices in Hollywood). If you don't know anyone in the business to start, right away you're in the red. What are you thinking? It didn't happen for him, it didn't happen for her, what makes you think it will happen for you?

Because it does happen.

Last week, Brad Ingelsby had us all clenching our teeth in envy when he sold his script The Low Dweller for $650,000 against $1.1 million to Relativity Media. Ridley Scott might be directing. Leonardo DiCaprio might star. And Ingelsby still lives with his parents in sunny...Pennsylvania. He's 27 (yikes, that's only 5 years away) and works for an insurance company. One day, he was living a "normal" life, the next, there's an article in Variety about him.

There's not too much information about this guy out there (yet), but I imagine his story goes something like this: He woke up, went to work, and wrote every day. Or maybe he stayed up all night writing. Or maybe he wasn't really "working" while at the office. Whatever the case, you know what got him this deal? His script. Sure, networking helps. But what good is that when your writing is sub par?

Write, write, write. Because it does happen.

El texto es obra del debutante Brad Ingelsby, un agente de seguros que ha trabajado en el guión durante sus ratos libres, y que ha conseguido venderlo finalmente por más de un millón de dólares. Todo un ejemplo a seguir, además de un hombre muy afortunado.

Ingelsby propone como protagonista a un hombre reién salido de la cárcel que tendrá que reincorporarse a un mundo que para él ya resulta algo lejano y olvidado. Hast aquí todo normal. Pero resulta que pronto los problemas comienzan cuando alguien de su pasado le persigue para ajustar cuentas con él. Ambos personjes compartirán protagonismo con un tercer hombre y una mujer, seguramente un interés romántico para el protagonista.

Scott produce, aunque es muy probable que también se encargue de la dirección. Actualmente Scott y DiCaprio tienen en común el thriller de espías Body of Lies.

Efter att Leonardo DiCaprio och Ridley Scott precis avslutat inspelningen av Body of Lies avslöjas nu att samarbetet fortsätter för att satsa på nästa filmprojekt, The Low Dweller.

Nu är man på gång att göra en remake på Fredag den 13:e. Den första filmen hade premiär 1980 och världen fick för första gången bekanta sig med Jason. Vet faktiskt inte hur många efterföljande filmer man gjort?

En film om Bob Marleys liv har varit på gång en längre tid. Det är Bobs änka som tagit tag i projektet men nu har man problem med rättighetsinnehavaren av hans musik som nekat användningen i filmen. Låter rätt svårt att göra en film om Bob Marley utan hans musik...
