"1,000,000" I love this song probably my favorite on the album great lyrics just everything is good 9/10

"Letting you" This song is cool but really differnt but it has cool lyrics the end of it might give you a headache though 6/10

"Discipline" Definitely my second favorite song and the single! Great single to start off the album and go into youtube and look for the video it's awesome! It had me luling! 9/10

"Echoplex"  A pretty descent song good lyrics it sounds like alot like there hit song "only" back in 2005 8/10

"Head Down" This song is really interesting has a good drum beat trent is really telling us something here 8/10

"Lights in the Sky"  The softer side of NIN but these are the songs you can remix yourself so give it a try if you dare this is a really slow song but also good lyrics 7/10

"Corona Radiata" Wow wierd name for a song but also another slow song but a long one watch out! 7/10

"The Four of Us Are Dieing" A very strange song but nothing out of the ordinary here it's just differnt! 6/10

"Demon Seed" great beat in this song Trent comes back singing in this song with good lyrics! This is also the end of the album and its a good way to end the album! 8/10

A few months back, Nine Inch Nails released their latest album The Slip, as a free download online( you can still download it for free at that link).  I jumped at it and enjoyed my free music.  And I must say, this album is much too good to be free, but I didn't complain.

Then a few months after that, they released the physical copy on CD, and I also bought that.  Because when it comes to my favorite artists, I like to own the actual album.  I have had this album on heavy play for the past month, particularly track #2 - 1,000,000.  This song is amazing.

If you have not been following NIN like I have, you are missing out on some of the best music around these days.  They released Ghosts I-IV this year as well, as a double disc, with 34 instrumental tracks.  INCREDIBLE.  I suggest you go give them a listen, I would like to think you will thank me after listening to them.

Hace ya tiempo, he estado obsesionado con esta banda, Nine Inch Nails, pero desde que oí la canción de And All That Could Have Been, he empezado a investigar y a bajar discos como locos.

Bueno, el motivo de este post es que, cuando se separó la banda de la compañia discográfica Universal, y se hicieron independientes, lanzaron su último disco totalmente gratis para descarga.

Entren a la página de abajo e introduzcan su e-mail, les llegará un correo con un link, y ahi se encuentran varias descargas, la principal es un archivo ZIP con los MP3, hay otras en torrents, de hasta 1.5 gigas (Wooow eso si es HD Audio).

Uno de los discos que dieron muchas sorpresas este año fue el álbum de Nine Inch Nails The Slip, que el propio grupo puso a disposición de todos de forma gratuita, solo ingresando tu e-mail desde su pagina y en varios formatos mp3, FLAC, M4A apple lossless y HD WAVE. Todo sin DRM. Eso sí, excepto en el caso del mp3. Su distribución en forma física fue lanzada el mes de julio, lo curioso, es que el disco es una edición muy limitada a 250,000 copias en el mundo, y ya esta aquí, por fin en México The Slip de Nine Inch Nails.

Si tu eres fan de Nine Inch Nails debes ir a Mixup [recomendablemente, solo la eh visto ahí] y comprar tu edición que contiene el disco con los 10 temas, un DVD de NIN en directo de algunas pistas del álbum grabadas en estudio, un booklet de 24 paginas y un exclusivo sticker pack. Cada uno de los discos viene individualmente enumerado, así que solo son muy pocas en existencia y si quieres una, sugiero que vayas al Mixup de Zona Rosa, ahí todavía tienen algunas copias pero eso si apúrate por que cuando yo fui tenían como 10 o 11 y al otro día cuando fui por la mia solo eran 3, el precio es de $372 pesos.

The opening two track let you know what you're in for: the stampeding "Letting You" combines the distorted sounds with some pounding drums. "1,000,000" "Discipline" is an example of itself, a restrained, melancholy middle section stops the track from sounding too much like the previous two. "Echoplex" is the first drum machine track on the album and agian, it breaks the flow and prevents the song from sounding the same as the previous trio.

However, there's a bit of a stumble towards the end. "Lights In The Sky" is a haunting piano track that's almost an instrumental, due to the barely audible vocals. "Corona Radiata" is a purely instrumental track that flows on from "Lights In the Sky" and carries on it's dreamy ambience to a static charged end. "The Four Of Use Are Dying" is a fairly limp ending, all surging electronics but no real bite until the last minute, but by then it's not enough. "Demon Seed" is good but could have been placed in the middle for a better effect. It seems almost churlish to complain about the last few tracks considering the first five songs are some of the best that Nine Inch Nails have come up with in the last ten years. The Slip is a better than average album, but one that maybe benefits from downloading certain tracks from i-tunes, rathat than as a whole.

Nine Inch Nails - Letting You (live rehearsal):

Earlier this summer I wrote a music update for Teddy's alternative press at Roger Williams University (the Bird Cage).  Since he has returned to school, he has asked me to write a similar update concerning fall. Well, seeing how it isn't fall yet, and seeing how the deadline was last night, I wrote about the end of summer. Even though I do listen to leaked music, even the greatest leaks aren't more than a month ahead of the release date--well, with exceptions, the infamous leaking of Radiohead's Hail to the Thief, which leaked in a pre-finished form about a year ahead of its official release.

After visiting the Bird Cage website, it's pretty clear that the site's quality is not that visually appealing. Yes, the site looks like it was designed in the middle of the 1990s using the Geocities page builder, and yes there are some pretty noticeable typos throughout the site, including on the main page, but the site isn't exactly being worked on by a bunch of professionals. Teddy took the time last spring (during my final semester) to learn how to use Dreamweaver, and designed the site from the bottom up, "from scratch" you might say. In addition to that, regardless of the few (or is it just two?) additional writers he has helping him out with content, he does all the writing himself. That said, I take pride in writing for this work in progress, and I also take pride in writing for a college audience, as I know I would have looked to greater powers when I was an undergrad learning about all the music being created out there.

The End of Summer Music Update

With the season for love, romance, and reproduction pretty much moving into the backs of our minds (for all you kids who don’t see keep track of these things, it’s called summer, and it’s a time for revealing fashion trends, aromatic plant scents, and densely-populated music festivals), even though we try our hardest for the season to stick around as long as possible, there’s a strange amount of upbeat albums still to be released this year. Actually, there is a nice diverse pampering coming our way in the next few months. August sees the release New Kids on the Block’s and Goo Goo Dolls’s Greatest Hits (I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere near the former one), a single by the Cure (yes, they’re still around, and with a remix album hitting shelves in September, Robert Smith’s hopeful new masterpiece can’t be far away), our family-film pal Ice Cube’s Raw Footage, You & Me by alt-indie rockers the Walkmen (which is currently waiting in line to be heard on my computer—if it’s anything like their last few albums, it will be worthy of more than one listen), Chemical Chords by Stereolab, and Protools by Gza (the Genius).

That list leaves a few out. For all you vinyl connoisseurs out there, Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails CD from earlier this year, the Slip, will be available for the turntables. For fans of superbly crafted, artsy indie-pop, check out the Swedish musician Lykke Li’s Youth Novels that calls forth those extra-special summer moments of youthful passion, flowers, and wildly positive emotional kicks. The first track is a more feminine approach to something out of Dark Side of the Moon. Later in the month (i. e. NOW) is spiced up with That Lucky Old Son by Brian Wilson (wait, that guy is still alive?) both on CD and vinyl, the negatively-received Oceans Will Rise by the Stills (make your own decision), the live disk by indie-rock extraordinaire group the Fiery Furnaces (called Remember so that you don’t forget), and something by some guy called Keith Urban.

While you’re getting over the fact that people actually like Keith Urban and find his albums explosively innovative, heart-warming, and revolutionary (don’t quote me on any of that), you can finish up your eighth month of the year with the fourth album by recently-returned that nine-piece hard rock group Slipknot (oh my, where did all those painful memories of high school come from?), unoriginally entitled All Hope is Gone. The band’s fourth effort is being described by some as sounding like Alice in Chains, and many say that the metal influence is dwindling on most of the tracks. Well, we’re streaming it here at the state government office, and it sounds pretty hard . . . but my place for Slipknot will always be the bottom, repressed area of my heart. To keep it fare, B. B. King’s One Kind Favor comes out this week too, and watch out 50 Cent fans! The Game’s Lax hits shelves, and chances are there will be a low-blow in there somewhere! If you want even more hating, pick up the deluxe edition for a few more bucks.

Speaking of deluxe editions, transition your lives into the shorter days of September with that New Kids on the Block’s The Block album in deluxe form, next week. That’s right, it’s like a cultural comeback of your favorite teenage boy band from nearly twenty years ago—hooray! There’s a lot of stuff coming out in September that you actually should check out, though. The most anticipated album of the year (in my book) is Skeletal Lampings by indie psych-poppers Of Montreal, the follow-up to the album from last year that I played more than any other, Hissing Fauna Are You the Destroyer? I’ve already acquired the album and, after listening to its 60-minute-long-entirety two times in a row last night, I’ve already found myself oddly hooked. Why oddly? You’ll have to read my review of it when you get a chance (and/or when it’s available).

One of my favorite contemporary rappers/club rappers/crunk rappers is Young Jeezy and his Recession hits in a couple weeks. Who doesn’t love a rapper whose samples himself backing his lyrics in his own songs? And who doesn’t love a rapper who raps about having sex in the club with string-wash electronica music in the background? I don’t know much about the limited edition cut of Radiohead’s OK Computer and Kid A, but based around everything that’s gone on with them recently, they probably don’t even know those are being released. Same goes for that Morrissey DVD that came out this month, so steer clear. Instead, give Metallica another chance (any direction from St. Anger is going up) with Death Magnetic (the first single’s already on the radio-waves, and is getting positive attention, though most fans are waiting for the album release). Another album that’s available, though currently unreleased (give it a couple weeks) is Okkervil River’s follow-up to last year’s amazing album the Stage Names. Part two in the two-album series is the Stand-Ins, and it’s more somber, country-rock influenced, with richer verses, more simplistic melodies, and an equal entertainment value. In the “what happened to them” category, we’ve got releases from LL Cool J and Calexico.

If all that doesn’t fill you up for the next few weeks, send me an email and I’ll hook you up with some noise rock, an African Scream disk, an Icelandic pianist who is being thrown into the indie-rock boat, a Korean cellist that isn’t, and some Minimalist Electronica that will make you jump up and say “we’re going to Detroit” (which I hope you don’t actually go through with).

At this very moment, I'm backing up everything to my external hard drive.  When that's done, I'll reformat my mp3 player's hard drive.  Then I'll begin adding music to it again.  In the past I've complained about the Creative Nomad Zen's automatic folder creation, but now that I've played around with having one folder containing all of my music, I've discovered that the Zen's folders are probably for the best.  I just need to do better in managing them when adding music.  I'll try to keep all of each artist's music together by artist (not by album).  That will make it far easier to delete music added blindly (deafly?), only later to discover I don't care for it.

I'll begin by adding Nine Inch Nails since that's what I'm in the mood for today.  I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I got around to downloading The Slip only a few days ago.  After NIN, I'll throw on Tool and A Perfect Circle.  Beyond those bands, I'll be dropping songs on individually, previewing each one so as to not clutter up my player all over again with stuff I don't really like so much.

These videos are available on The Slip + DVD too. Although the album can be downloaded for free at nin.com. I think I'll buy the CD anyway even though I've had the album now for a while. It's nice to have the physical product and art work.

Well, to make myself feel better, I did manage to finish, edit and send off a story to CinemaSpec.  Also, I put up the 2nd post/chapter of Blood Routes today.

I've been doing research on Broken Skies and the untitled non-fiction project that I have just written the proposal for.  And in doing that research, I somehow ended up reading an article about Nine Inch Nails.  I was a huge fan of NIN during the era of The Downward Spiral and that empty five years waiting between it and The Fragile.  I'm still a fan.  I thought Year Zero was probably one of best albums I'd heard in the last three years or so.  Then, when Ghosts I-IVcame out independently on-line, I missed it by like a week.  By the time I knew it had been offered for super-cheap via download on NIN's website, the actual physical CD was already in stores.

And now Trent and co. have gone and done it again.  The Slip has been available for a while now on the NIN website (cover art to the left).  It's an entire new album which NIN has made available for absolutely free...there are even downloadable files available that can be remixed by fan. And when I went to the site to check this out, I realized that perhaps I am not the fan I thought I was.  I am actually currently listening to some of the stuff from the Ghosts albums and learning all about the new and inventive ways Trent Reznor is getting his music out there.  Even if you aren't or have never been a fan of his music, you should swing by the NIN website and check out what he's been up to.  If you get a chance, I highly recommend checking out the rehearsal videos.

Okay...back to trying to force myself into writing at least 4,000 words on something today.

In other news I'm totally obessed with Katy Perry's song "I Kissed A Girl". I listen to it on repeat at work for hours. Until I got tired of it and listened to a couple episodes of Smodcast. I'm seriously lacking in podcasts, it's either stuff like Smodcast or it's JustForWomen, which is so serious. Quirky Nomads is freaking hysterical.

I'm in mourning as well. Nine Inch Nails, and totally lustworthy Trent Reznor are touring and they are very close to where I am. And, my partner says "No concerts on a weekday". Who has a concert on Monday and Tuesday anyway? So anyway, tonightI'm going to make him promise that if Trent comes through this way again, I'M GOING. With or without him. I'll find someone else to go. He got to go skydiving, I'm going to see Trent. and should Trent pull me up on stage he can have his way with me. Not that he's ever been told that before I'm sure. *sigh*

Dopo lo sperimentale Ghost IV stavolta si fanno le cose ancora meglio...

Infatti il nuovo lavoro dei Nine Inch Nails "The Slip" è già disponibile da qualche giorno in download GRATUITAMENTE e in qualità/formati per tutti..personalmente non avendo chissa quale impianto audio ho optato per i "normali" mp3 a qualità CD!

Album: The Slip

Review: The first song off "The Slip" is a trippy instrumental intro titled 999,999, which ends with the words "What did I slip into?". The next track, titled 1,000,000 has a more traditional Nine Inch Nails rock sound that should satisfy existing fans. The album is not for the weak-kneed; there is consistent heart thumping and other loud and scary sounds! But to the NIN faithful, "The Slip" is no disappointment. The first track off "The Slip" that you can clearly hear vocals on is Discipline, a more toned down track and worthy of a listen.  Make sure to hear Lights In The Sky, which has a slow creeping piano sound that will get the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up.  Check out the crazy instrumental track Corona Radiate.  Don't sleep on The Four Of Us Are Dying instrumental either or the Demon Seed track.
