Anyways, so there has nothing been really going on. We bought out tickets for out Thanksgiving trip, Adam's birthday just passed, and I begin self defense Friday. I cannot wait until our Thanksgiving trip comes around, I am so excited to see my nephews and niece. Of course, I am excited to the rest of my family as well, and Adam's grandparents. Apparently they are coming into Boston to visit us while we are there. Woo, I am so freaking excited!!! Not really, there are parts of this trip that I am not looking forward to. Like the jet-lag, and everything else except seeing my family. But that's a whole different story that I am not going to get into.

So my mother is moving this weekend, all Labor Day weekend we will be helping my mother pack the U-HAL and partying. It's her last weekend here, so we need to live it up because she id going to be on the road for almost a week straight. Might as well, right?

I had a message on my phone yesterday from a Bride who needs some dresses for two young bridesmaids.  It turns out she was given my number by a friend of a friend and she wants something quite different to the usual which is right up my street; I asked what colour and she responded green and gold.  I am so happy, they are two current favourites of mine.  The dresses themselves will be very simple as she has a pattern already it is just a question of making them look like nothing available anywhere else and that is something I love to do.

I have also found a use for all sorts of bits of fabrics I have that are too small for most things: corsets.  I always forget how little they use and since I enjoy making them I think it time I got on with it and made a few up as ready to wear.  Usually I make them bespoke and I know that some people don't plan that far ahead when it comes to what to wear.  This explains the title of straight laced; for those who are interested, the phrase refers to a particular way of lacing your stays, corset, bodice or jacket.  There are lots of different ways to lace up (just look at people's trainers for example) but straight lacing to me means a more thorough and useful way of doing things, not so much playing by the rules as doing things the best way for the job in hand.  It's also useful if you want to pull your waist in really very tight but that's not something I'm too keen on, I like to breathe from time to time!

This weekend just gone I was at the wedding of two good friends where I made the bride's tiara as a wedding present.  The tiara was a joy to make as it was for someone I cared about, it was an exercise in working with good materials (freshwater pearls and crystal), I was challenged, I was inspired to create other similar pieces and I am proud to say that I made that tiara.  It was strange to see the tiara on the day as it had transformed into a lovely thing that just happened to be made by me.  I was able to see it and enjoy it as others did and be glad that something I had created was so lovely and enhanced the appearance of my friend on her special day.  I would happily make more bespoke pieces like that tiara and am currently working on some ideas to make up as ready to wear pieces.

As well as the designing and making of dresses, costumes and accessories it is important that I keep up with friends and colleagues.  It is so good to take a break away from the workroom and catch up with the news and gossip with human beings, especially if there is a cup of tea and a piece of cake involved.  From a business point of view talking about what I'm doing with others helps with the old word of mouth marketing  as well as finding out what everyone else is up to and whether there are any potential opportunities coming up.  It's also good when talking to other people working in the same area for providing a sounding board for issues we may be coming against.  It often happens that other people's experience will suggest alternative ways and ideas of dealing with things.  I've also lost count of the times I have asked a question of someone and in the process come up with the answer before the other person has had a chance to respond.  Again on a business point, there is also nothing like someone saying to you 'I have a friend who is just the person for what you need', after all, a recommendation from someone you trust is the best!

Meeting up with other human beings is also good for my sanity.  Spending too much time with a sewing machine and a computer for company can become a little tiresome to say the least, I can understand why people take their pets to work or play the radio all day.  It's good to have a little company, although it's no replacement for human contact!

It reminds me of the movie Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia(Curse of the Golden flower)? The design of the crown is distinctly eastern and seems like one of the organic(?) ones worn by Gong Li in the movie. I highly recommend the movie, its amazingly beautiful!

I really think that she lives at the gym - so if you become my gym buddy you can see for yourself. Yesterday I saw her doing a whole weight circuit before abs class, then she was at abs class, and after work she did a spin class. She makes me feel lazy and yesterday I did abs class, yoga, cardio, and weight circuit. As well as my daily 7km walk. I bet she only eats roughage though. And enough because I am a step away from sounding like an e-stalker.

Going to see Roma and Steff this evening and I can't wait. Roma is getting her hair cut again and now that I think of it, I think that she spends half of her life cutting her hair. And it grows faster than puppies.

My gold headband makes me look important apparently. Like royalty. Maybe I should take it up a notch and wear my tiara tomorrow.
