As of 2008, Spore has been built up to be Will Wright’s magnum opus, and it is definitely a un

As of 2008, Spore has been built up to be Will Wright's magnum opus, and it is definitely a unique and ground-breaking contribution to the video game medium. Full disclosure before getting any further, Will Wright has been & still is one of my game designer idols. I've been a fanatic for almost anything 'Sim'-related for quite some time so following Spore's development over the past several years wasn't anything unusual for me. Now that it's released (sans any future expansion packs, sure to come) and the initial DRM controversy is falling out of the limelight thanks to our blossoming economy, I'm going to weigh in my own observations.

Once my pre-order came in, I installed the game onto my MacBook Pro without any issue & sat down to play through the full, evolutionary gamut that this baby had to offer. Having already played with the Creature Creator before & with Spore Origins on my iPhone, I had a bit of previous knowledge/expectations going into everything. I spent one full Saturday managing my species from its single-cell, carnivorous origins all the way up to its intergalactic misteps with numerous other space-faring creatures (who knew aliens wanted so much money?). My first runthru was on 'Normal' difficulty and after a couple other species creations starting at the Creature or Tribal stages, I finally bumped it down to 'Easy' & started on the Spacefaring stage. This is where the game really started getting fun for me.

The early stages are neat the first time, though I don't really see myself going back to the Cell Stage unless I'm going to try something new. Spore Origins on the iPhone seems like the best platform for that gameplay, although the PC version does capture the more visually interesting elements of the microscopic world, especially seen in games like flOw. The Creature stage is where the gameplay starts to get more involved. Walking out on land as some slug-like monstrosity on legs or otherwise is a bit thrilling, although I kept finding myself wanting to start out with more options rather than such a limited number of parts. It feels like you can't really make a full-blown creature & play with it unless you start at the Tribal stage, which has its own gameplay dynamics. Meeting & interacting with other creatures is captivating, although the sheer diversity of such early life is a bit odd practically speaking. I might have preferred to see different nests of the same creatures and something akin to SimAnt show up; allowing the player to expand their nest and grow a population of spiky, 3-legged, eight-eyed omnivores to take over those pesky neighbors. Digging up the bones of dead animals for new parts is engaging though and adds that element of exploration early on in the game. There were times of conflict, though, between practicality and aesthetics where I found myself simply making a big, spiky, venom-spitting creature instead of something that was more visually interesting. The reason being, my pretty, little, orange cocateu-esque species would continue to lose out to all the carnivorous neighbors around me, no matter how well my pack-followers would fight. This may be a weakness in my own style of gameplay, but still frustrating.

Once you progress past the creature stage, your little monstrosity discovers fire and starts their own tribe. The Tribal stage doesn't have as much of a focus on user-generated content as it does on building relationships with or conquering other species. The player is introduced to outfitting their creature with clothes, but the gameplay seem to take a very formulaic turn. If another tribe is hostile towards you from the getgo, give them a gift. Once they are ambivalent towards you, perform at least 2 successful concerts for them to gain an ally. Wash, rinse, repeat. Of course there's also the conquer and control approach where you simply have to wipe out a neighboring village's main hut. Depending on how your creation ended up from the Creature stage, this may be easier or not than the diplomatic route. Another minor accomplishment that is available is the ability to domesticate an animal. What purpose this serves besides having a guard at your village, I'm not entirely sure. When I first domesticated an animal, I was really hoping to be able to start getting alien cheese, or at least be able to use the new pets as food. Maybe in future versions they could even be used as beasts of burden or mounts. Regardless, domestication has very little effect on your progress.

Finishing the Tribal stage leads you to the Civilization stage where things get a little more interesting (though from my play experience it quickly devolves to who can blow up the other person the soonest). If I began the Civilization stage as an Economic or Religious society, I found myself quickly trying to get a hold of a Military city so that I'd have something to defend myself with. As much as I liked trading & being able to buy out a city, the it was nearly impossible to make enough money quickly enough to pay off other Military or Religious cities from wiping me out. The Civilization stage is basically an incredibly simplistic RTS that is completed either in the same amount of time as the Tribal stage, if not less.

Once you've conquered your world, you get on to Spore's most developed and deepest area, the Space stage. Here is where you'll spend the majority of your gameplay time. I instantly loved being able to terraform planets & create something liveable from a barren rock. Creating Wildlife Reserves out of entire planets was really satisfying too as you can place up to 30 different species on there without threat of extinction. This should be your "best of" storage area where you can pick up you favorite creatures to drop on other planets. One of the difficulties in the Space stage though is the sheer amount of stuff there is. It's really great that you have hundreds of stars to explore, each uniquely named and with numerous planets orbiting them, also each uniquely named. However, you just can't remember where every single place is. Navigating to specific worlds for missions or to find the best price on something is daunting at best. I found myself pausing the game numerous times so that I could scour the numerous star systems around me to find that certain planet with the certain rock orbiting that certain star. A Google Maps-like feature where you can just type in a planet's name & a path will appear would be amazing & take away a lot of the tedious nature of navigating around. Plus, the game starts to suffer the Superman syndrome after you've met more than 2 or 3 different alien races; everyone needs help. Literally every 5 minutes there're numerous messages notifying you of an eco-disaster on one of your planets or a pirate raid or some race demanding money or an intergalactic war starting. If you don't respond to all of these messages, you'll lose favor with that specific race or your planet's ecology will collapse or your colony will be decimated. I wish there was a communication "off" switch where I could just roam around the galaxy with my starship posse, discovering new systems & colonizing different areas. For being an intergalactic civilization, your people can't do crap without you & your singular UFO.

In the Civilization stage you could set up trade routes & assign different vehicles to guard or trade with different cities among other duties. Why not be able to do that in the Space stage? Being able to build space freighters or small fighters and defensive orbital platforms could help in the tidal wave of micro-management that the player is assaulted with. The best part about it too, the game would be more fun! Your society should be able to take care of itself without you to a moderate degree.

Summary:

So as far as final thoughts on Spore for the PC; get to the Space stage as quickly as possible. The Tribal & Civilization stages are worth a couple of replays, but the bulk & strength of the game are in Space. Get used to micro-managing all your little worlds or letting them degenerate into eco-meltdown or be overrun by hostiles. It's your choice, you're the intelligent designer here.

Creating creatures, plants, buildings, vehicles, & spaceships is fun to those especially creative individuals out there. And fans of Will Wright would be those people. This is just the first version of the game, right out of the box. Like The Sims games I expect for Spore to develop significantly through expansion packs with more features that are sure to really make this a shining game. For now, it's a decent attempt at covering a lot of genres in one go, though by no means a magnum opus.

First Part:

First Part:

Mom, Denny, Joe, Nanny and I were putting together metal poles into chairs and tables. Joe was directing. I was showing Nanny how to drill a hole into the metal pole. The drill bit was the size of my smallest jewelry bit. We were sitting in the grass in the shade.

Second Part:

I was driving my car. I think it was my first car, the maroon Cavalier. Nanny was in the passenger seat, and mom and Denny were in the back. I was driving over the moutains. There were no roads. There weren't many trees. It was rocky and dusty, no civilisation in site.

I was having problems with the pedals because there were a bunch of papers (which came from the dream cycle before this one which I'll leave unrecorded), CDs, and blankets at my feet.

Then we were parked in a parking lot and while my passengers went in a building to run an errand, I cleaned out everything at my feet and my trunk where I found 4 or 5 umbrellas. One yellow, two green, and at least one pink one.

Mom, Denny, and Nanny didn't return. Instead, I was standing in the lot with Chris Wittman and Jim Wockenfuss. It was something like the end of the school year where I knew I wouldn't see my guy friends for a couple of months. Chris got in a car with his wife, Liz, and drove away before I could hug him goodbye. I waved at them and after the car was gone, I kept waving at the spot where the car was because there was a small white and tan bulldog sitting there.

I turned to hug Jim goodbye and for some reason, it was especially sad. So I hung on for a long time with my face buried in his neck while telling him that he needed to keep me up on his performances, etc. I gave him a quick kiss, then let him go and he was gone.

I was then in my kitchen looking at a plate of small tan rolls. I knew they were from Jim. They were sweet and spicey, steaming and crunchy. They changed into a plate of flat, doughnut shaped treats with a brown sticky glaze. Almost like chinese food.

Part Three:

Then I was in a dark hallway. It was like a video game. It was very quite, there was a room to the left and one to the right. I entered the room on the left. There was a long table at the end where two suits of armor were facing away from me. The windows were all dark. There were sheets of cloth haning from the ceiling in odd places. I knew I was supposed to vanquish the suits of armor, but as I approached, they saw me and chased me out of the room, back into the hall. I remember they had swords and the points were pressing on my butt. I spun around and slashed at them. they were gone. I ran into the room on the right side of the hall. As I entered the room, there was a door that led off to the left.

There were musical instruments in one corner next to that other door. There was a breeze blowing the curtains and I remember thinking, "No breeze." The wind stopped and the curtains settled. I huddled in the far corner of the room in a ball, quiet and scared. As I sat there, about a dozen people in purple mariachi dress jogged into the room, picked up the instruments, and went into the ajoining room to rehearse.

They started to practice and the girl who was playing the tamborine was having issues. The conductor yelled at her and so she got up and left. Then she pulled out a toy gun and went through the motions of shooting herself in the back of the head. Then she was dead. I cried for her.

I picked up the tamborine, sat in the vacated chair and started to play. The tamborine looked like something I might put together with scraps of copper in my workshop. As I was following along and the conductor was critiquing others, I looked around and saw Jim. He was young, maybe fifteen or so, and I knew I was in the past and this was what would directly or indirectly beget Friday Mourning. As I stared at him, trying to take everything in and figure out was going on, he looked back at me and I could tell from the bleak look in his eyes, that this was the troubled point in his life. The part he said he would talk about over a bottle of whiskey.

Then the conductor and the musical instruments faded away and I was in the room with only 5 or 6 people. One was an arrogant jackass who had his arm around my shoulders. He was, apparently, the lead in this band, but no one seemed to like him. He was oblivious. He thought I was on his side. I kept taking his arm off me and pushing him away. He was persistant.

They all started singing. All but the lead. Jim's voice came through clear and clean and beautiful. The lead started to sing then, and he was simply wretched. Absolutely HORRIBLE. When they were done, Arrogant Guy came back over, put his arm around me yet again. I was there to critique.

They asked what I thought. I looked around, at arrogant guy, the other musicians, and then looked at Jim and said, "Jim should be the lead. This one [pointing to arrogant guy] is awful."

Everyone else looked grimly pleased and completely agreed. We were casting pink ballots and one of the other guys put in his vote for Jim to lead immediately. Jim was lead and arrogant guy was out of the band.

Then I woke up.

Guitar Hero: World Tour sairá no dia 26 de Outubro.

Tyler is a video game addict. XBOX, PLAYSTATION, GAMEBOY, you name it, he's addicted to it. While it may not appear so when you see the 9,000 games he has in his collection, my wife and I do try to "screen" the games that he receives or buys. Any game that is rated MATURE is strictly off-limits along with games that have excessive violence, sex, language, or gambling elements. Tyler, gaming expert that he is, knows how to make even the worst of the games sound tame enough for a toddler to enjoy. After years of pulling the wool over our eyes, we now have a better idea of Tyler's ideas of what constitutes adult themes thanks to a game he bought a few weeks ago. This game is called "Destroy all Humans" and involves aliens killing everyone and blowing everything up. We were apprehensive about the game because it was rated "T" for Teen and indicated that it had violence, sexual themes, and mild language. Of course, being the Idiots we are, we let him buy it after he assured us everything was "tame" on the game.

The other day I am sitting and watching Tyler play this game. He is skillfully killing all humans and blowing everything up when his aliens little ray gun runs out of death ray. Tyler moves his alien over the top of a dead body and then places the gun by the bodies head. Green waves come out of the corpses head. "What are you doing?" I ask. "I'm sucking his brains out to reload my gun", Tyler states in an almost embarrassed tone. He turns beet red and looks at me and then whispers....."That's the Sexual Violence Dad!"

Young minds are so amusing.

Since I have been up since around 4 a.m. laying here like a lump, I figured I'd make a list of some random stuff that interests me. Welcome to the first edition of a new feature, Lazy Morning Lists (corny enough?)! In this list, we'll take a look at the top WiiWare developers. For the woefully uninitiated, WiiWare is Nintendo's downloadable game service for the Wii, very similar to PlayStation Network games or Xbox Live Arcade. In my opinion, WiiWare is one of Wii's biggest draws. Here's a list of the top developers for WiiWare.

1. Nintendo (duh)

Let's face it. Nintendo is the world's best software developer. With franchises such as Mario, Zelda and Pokemon they have the market cornered. With WiiWare, Nintendo's released several games: Magnetica Twist, Dr. Mario Online Rx, My Pokemon Ranch, and most recently, Art Styles: Orbient. Their new Art Styles series is an update of the Japan-exclusive Game Boy Advance Bit Generations titles, and judging from the first entry, the series is going to be smart, creative and addictive.

2. Gameloft

Known mostly for their lineup of mobile phone games, Gameloft has been highly successful with WiiWare. Their lineup includes: TV Show King, Block Breaker Deluxe, Wild West Guns, Midnight Pool, and Midnight Bowling. These slick, feature-heavy games are heavy on (corny) style and provide fun, full gaming experiences. It is expected that more Gameloft games are on the way.

Hudson, a veteran Japanese game developer with games on every gaming system ever, has found great success with WiiWare. With three games currently released, Star Soldier R, My Aquarium, and Bomberman Blast, Hudson's got something for everybody. Their upcoming release Alien Crush Returns should gamers with a fun pinball experience.

4. High Voltage Software

High Voltage Software has been around for a long time, but you wouldn't know it unless you have bought licensed games based on cartoons or TV shows. This year, however, HVS decided to make a name for itself with its new Quantum 3 Game Engine for Wii, providing awesome graphics and technology otherwise thought impossible for Wii. I won't even mention their "big" Wii game coming to retail next year, but HVS's current WiiWare releases include: VIP Casino: Blackjack and Gyrostarr. These two games have nice production values and are very fun. Their upcoming release, High Voltage Hot Rod Show, should satiate racing fans.

5. Telltale Games

Telltale Games, known for their popular episodic adventure games, has found great success on WiiWare with its new series Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, based on the popular Homestar Runner web cartoon. Telltale is releasing a new episode each month through December, so any gamer with a funny bone should be enjoying this series.

Well, there you have it, folks. My first Lazy Morning List. Any ideas as to what I should make a list of next time?

[caption id="attachment_404" align="aligncenter" width="480" caption="Little Big Planet"][/caption]

Wah penontonya buannyaak banget, pikir-pikir tahun depan pengen dateng pas event para developer dan pers saja..kalau pas hari Sabtu begini jadi kurang menikmati. Yang ada kepala orang sama kamera dimana-mana.

So I've hurt some feelings when I voiced my opinion about fantasy football. And I've done some thinking. The reason I don't like fantasy football is because I can't play due to my lack of sports knowledge. So is that really fair? Of course not so I've decided to create a fantasy game that I could understand and get into. I present to you...

The object of this game is to pick 8 games that, over the next 6 months, will gross the most money. There are four consoles that you must pick from, then within that range you must choose from four platforms. Once you've decided which games you want, choose from 3 different markets to collect points from. Until the day the game is released, you can change the market or trade that game. Once it's released it's locked in, and once all of your games are released you score is locked in. To start choosing your games you first determine the pick order. Start at the top of the list and work your way down. Once at the bottom of the list, work backwards up the list again until all games are picked.

Console:

            2 Wii

            2 PS3

            2 Xbox360

            1 Handheld

1 Wild Card (any console game of your choice)

Must have these platforms:

            1 Sports

            1 Shooter

            1 RPG

            1 Action/Adventure

Must pick one Market for each game:

USA

Japan

Other (Europe,Africa,Etc...) +1 point

Scoring:

Week 1- For every 50,000 dollars in sales +1 Points

Week 2 - For every 50,000 dollars in sales +2 points

Week 3 - For every 50,000 dollars in sales +3 points

Delayed release date -5 points

Release date or date released is a odd number +1 point

Release date or date released is a even number +2 points

Release date or date released is a prim number +3 points

*Line outside of store +4 points

*Game sold out in stores +6 points

Lacking correct amount of platform games -20 points

*These calls can be challenged and if the majority find it not true -10 points

Trades: Games can be traded anytime before release date but you must maintain the correct amount of platform games. Trades can only be challenged if trade initiator is in lead (highest current score). When you run out of games you can no longer trade.

Pickups/Drops: You can only pick up or drop 3 games total over the entire season.

I'm sure there are problems with this game that I'm not seeing at the moment but that's to be expected. Once we get this game certified and into the Olympics we can start worrying about some of the loop holes of the game. But for now get your draft picks ready, bitches.

But Adam how are we gonna find out all this information about games and release dates and gross sales and blah blah blah...?

Calm down dick weed! I got you covered: http://vgchartz.com/

Episode 5 of Qore--PSN's venerable advertising vehicle which you are given the honor of paying for--brings a short demo of Valkryia Chronicles, a strategy-RPG from developer WOW Entertainment and publisher SEGA. The demo gives some insight into the mechanics of battle, but omits any glimpse of the story. With the beautiful cut-scenes presented in the opening cinematic, I can only hope there's a story there to match, but it's very hard to tell from the demo here.

On tap is a quick, effective tutorial and a single campaign ("Skirmish") which gives you access to a cast of nine characters. Battles are essentially turn-based, but the shooting and maneuvering of the characters is more comparable to an action game than a Japanese RPG. To keep things in the spirit of strategy games, maneuvering the characters has a cost, and shooting is limited in the same way as well, not much different than a game of Risk for example.

[caption id="attachment_147" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Who are you? What do you do?"][/caption]

There are several classes here, each with their own specialties. Scouts are lightly armored, can travel far, identify enemy classes from a good distance, and wield a mid-range rifle for attacking when necessary. Shocktroopers are better armored and carry machine guns which pack more of a punch than the rifle, but they can't move very far in a turn and their attacks are most effective at short range. Lancers are very heavily armored and carry a powerful weapon best suited for taking out tanks and other armored targets, though at the cost of maneuverability and ammunition capacity.

Engineers can move fair distances and are best focused on repairing tanks, locating and disabling landmines, topping up ammunition, and fixing destroyed sandbag barricades. Snipers can't move far, but can shoot from a great distance, surprise surprise. Tanks can run people over, destroy barricades, and pack a pretty good punch via it's cannon, though if the treads are destroyed, they aren't able to move far. Medics remove the incapacited from the field (and remove themselves as well, limiting their use), and understandably don't fight or defend themselves too well in the line of fire.

[caption id="attachment_148" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="This does NOT happen during the demo campaign"][/caption]

The campaign in the game is very simple and honestly not that exciting. The enemies that are present are figuratively faceless and there is no exposition of any sort during the campaign. The gameplay is easy enough to pick up, and I imagine is fun when applied to larger scale battles, but without a longer look at how the game gives these campaigns meaning via it's story, its hard to get too excitied about it just from the demo alone. Nonetheless, I do suggest checking this out if you happen to pick up Episode 5 of Qore.

Anyone can be anyone online: a person can become a drawf weilding a minigun, a knight corrupted by divine power, a soldier with a magic-blasting fighter plane, of any persona, in any realm, in any time. Massive multiplayer online role-playing games such as World of Warcraft are famous for this. These games allow their users to construct for themselves an alternate identity, much like any users of the internet does so in the blogs the user writes and the pages the user creates.

However, this isn't the case for me.

My alternate I.D. is me.

Quite frankly, I couldn't imagine being anyone else other than myself. This is the reason I construct my internet pages to reflect my true interests and my true self. This is also the reason I construct my online "avatars," similar to the Nintendo Mii's, to look exactly or close to myself. I can't imagine being anyone else other than who I am in real life.

More importantly, my sense of self-realization leads me to create my story characters, specifically Commander A9, as being modeled exactly after myself. He looks like me, talks like me, acts like me, fights like me, leads like me. He is me, and I am him. Anything that my character, Commander A9, has ever done in my stories, I have usually accomplished. Being that these are military stories based on the Command & Conquer series, my character's participation in combat and his combat performance were taken from my actual performance during paintball, videogames, and actual military training. Additional content is also taken from videos I've seen or information I've read, especially with regards to the military. Therefore, my stories reflect an extreme degree of realism when it comes to my characters, especially my own character.

In effect, you could call my stories my own autobiography in story format. I'm not sure if this has ever been done before, but I'd like to think of this method of story-telling as being a unique format.

I can't imagine being anyone else other than myself. I am who I am, in my writing and in my own life.

Linger in Shadows is a PlayStation Network title now available for download for the digestable price

Linger in Shadows is a PlayStation Network title now available for download for the digestable price of $2.99. This is certainly not a game, but an interesting piece of interactive art from the Polish demoscene group Plastic. While the PS3s graphical prowess has been pushed harder by more traditional games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, the surrealness of- and interactability with- what is being rendered on-screen is interesting enough to justify the purchase of what is arguably about 20 minutes of entertainment.

There are two main modes present, Linger, and Watch. Linger is the featured mode, and allows the player to fastfoward and rewind through the demo using the analog L2 and R2 triggers. This works very smoothly and is great for examining and manipulating the elements on screen at your own pace. Linger mode initially allows access to about 1 minute of the 5 minute demo, the remainder being unlocked minute by minute via the performing of various movements and actions using the Sixaxis functionality of the Dualshock3 controller at specific points throughout the demo. These were relatively simple to do, and I was able to unlock the complete demo on my first try. Your are graciously rewarded with PS Trophies for your efforts, which is a nice touch I suppose.

[caption id="attachment_133" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="A tail of epic proportion"][/caption]

There is no story to be told, but Watch mode allows you to sit back and let the demo play through. Some of the elements on the screen can still be manipulated by the player while in this mode which is an interesting concept I wouldn't mind seeing in more traditional games' non-interactive cutscenes.

If you have no interest in graphic art and design or an otherwise novel use of your PS3, this purchase might not do too much for you, but if you got three bucks burning a hole in your PSN Wallet, Linger in Shadows is definitely not a bad way to spend it.

Review Score: 5 / 10

With the Thanksgiving long weekend upon us, I thought I’d talk a bit about family this week. M

With the Thanksgiving long weekend upon us, I thought I'd talk a bit about family this week. My thought process started off with a conversation I had with my Granny awhile back. She lives in a retirement home, and the board decided they would look into getting a Nintendo Wii for the games room in the building. I thought this was a pretty neat idea, having all these seniors learning to use a game console, and the Wii is the perfect choice, particularly with it's Wii fit. It has the potential to keep everyone active no matter the weather or other limitations. I have to admit it had the added attraction of being available for my use when I come to visit.

However this also made me realize that I don't want to be playing video games with my Granny. That's something I do with my friends, and I somehow the thought just seems odd. My Granny is the one who taught me to play crib and double series and many many other games that I loved throughout my childhood and still love today. These are the types of games that I want to play when i visit my Granny, mostly because of the memories, but also because I have no one else to play many of these games with, because most of my friends aren't familiar with these games.

I for one don't think a generation gap is a terrible thing at all. I'm all for my Granny playing Wii fit and whatever other games she wants too, just like I support my Grandma using MSN (always an interesting conversation point by the way) but at the same time, I can't help but feel that we're losing out on board games and card games. Labyrinth and Skip Bo, Clue and Monopoly, even solitare and freecell, how many people could even play without their computers? I for one look forward to a Thanksgiving of board games and cards along with good food, because I know come Tuesday I'll be right back to my electronic entertainment.

Lunar Ball

This is a pretty awesome version of pool. Aside from having a variety of oddly shaped pool tables, which makes it more difficult to clear, you can also adjust the friction of the pool table, ranging from alot of friction and having to shoot the ball twice to get it anywhere, to almsot no friction, and having to wait two minutes for your cue ball to stop bouncing off the sides. Another thing I like about this game is that you can select a level. This is usefull because it gives everyone a change to try out all the different table designs without having to play through them all everytime.

http://www.nesguide.com/games/lunarpool/ The table layouts start getting weird at about 3 minutes.

Pinball

A classic. though it wouldn't seem like it at first, this game actually features MArio in a bonus level you access by getting the pinball through a particular chute. This game, like arcade pinball, is about getting the most points, which makes the 2 player mode more enjoyable. Pinball is one of those games that requires little skill and little attention to still be entertaining. Not one I played often, just because you can only play for so long before it becomes too simple, but fun none the less on occassion.

I think that the moment I began to remember past events in my life was the moment I got a Sega Genesis. I remember nothing before then. I don't even remember if it was Christmas or my birthday when I received it. It's all very fuzzy, but nonetheless, very important. Im still addicted to video games today aren't I?

I sat in my dinosaur PJ's unwrapping a box that was on the floor in my living room. Wether it was my birthday or christmas, I don't recall, but I do know that I was ecstatic to see what this "video game system" was all about. I had no idea. This was probably the one instance where my parents knew more about video games than I did. After they hooked it up to the T.V. I sat down in front of it with the controller in my hand and watched as my favorite dinosaur, the T-Rex appeared on the screen. Apparently I was playing Jurassic Park. I was terrible at first, physically jumping and lunging instead of using the controller to do it. I think most people have that problem when they first start playing video games.

More importantly, the reason I believe I fell in love with video games because of their ability to transport you to another world, the ability to immerse you in fantasy.
