WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.

Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.

Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.

The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.

"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."

The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.

In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names.

Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said.

New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.

MY TAKE....

Although I am SO against censorship, I would be in favor of barring those under the influence of insanity or mind altering drugs the right to name their children. Come on! They have to live with this name for the rest of their lives. LOL!

I am one of those who truly believe that names have a spiritual connection to the child. Children take pride in their names and actually become the nature of their names. I have heard of names like Desire, Chandle Lear, and Passion. But Talula Does the Hula TAKES THE CAKE! LOL!

OMG! I am laughing really hard right now...

Thank God the Judge had good sense.

aber ich habe mir einfach mal ein neues prestigeträchtiges Objekt gekauft, und zwar so'n schnieken Mp3-Player mit großem Display, wo man auch Bilder drauf angucken an und bla bli blubb. Angeberei, reine Angeberei. Aber kommt saugut ;-)

Ein Samsung YP-K3. Mit Mp3 und WMA Wiedergabe, FM Radio und Fotos. Kann man drauf ziehen, aber keine mit machen. So jetzt ist der materielle Sektor meines Herzens für's erste befriedigt. Bis dann diverse Musikinstrumente und ein vernünfitges USB-Autoradio folgen. Ich sag nur: Zivi$ habens gut.

um 15.45, wegen eines Wespenstiches. Da sag doch einer diese Mistviecher stechten nicht ohne Grund. Hass.
Naja ich dachte ich melde mich mal pünktlich zum Wochenende wieder. Diesmal mit einer Schreckensnachricht: Ich habe die Domain zivi-tagebuch.eu deaktivieren lassen. Falls sich der/die ein oder andere gefragt habe sollte, warum man die Seite nicht aufrufen kann - jetzt ists offiziell! War nicht gerade so die intelligenteste Idee, mehr oder weniger Betriebsinterna bekannt zu geben. Aber hey! Lest hier, hier ist eh viel lustiger.

Was passiert im Moment bei mir?

Die Tage verlaufen alle ziemlich gleich. 6 Uhr aufstehen. Arbeit von 7.15 bis 15.45. Nach Hause kommen. Trotz übermaäßigem Koffeinverzehr auf dem Sofa einschlafen. Rumgammeln.

Mein Auto ist in der Werkstatt, ich habe einen Strafzettel bekommen weil ich in nem Verkehrsberuhigten Bereich parkte, mein Schokoticket gilt bald nicht mehr, mein Perso ist seit dem 4.6. abgelaufen, Bahnen fahren mir nach wie vor immer noch vor der Nase weg, Wespen stechen mich ohne Grund, ich setze mich Freitag nachts ins Midgnight Movie und zieh mir für 4 Euro Trash Filme rein, mein Auto frisst mir mein ganzes Geld weg, ich wurde beim Shisha-Kauf betrogen, ich trinke wieder Soya Milch und möchte mich generell bewusster und gesünder ernähren, ich werde morgen einen Friseur aufsuchen und mich alsbald nach Köln begeben, um weit genug weg vom Drogen-Loch Dortmund zu sein, Between Horizons spielen ein Konzert im November in Paderborn, ich bekomme eine Freikarte. Oder zwei. Ich möchte nächstes Jahr eine schulische Ausbildung als Heilerziehungspfleger(-helfer) machen. Becks Ice ist eigentlich nur gut gemeint, die Simpsons fangen an. Schönes WE.

am i turning into a heap of unproductive and lazy piece of human waste again? even while contemplating this it seems i've already acknowledged it in silent resignation. i wish i had stronger convictions and just things i really stand behind (solid as a rock, strong foundation) without doubting myself. do i criticize everything too much? do i overanalyse? it seems that i focus too much on singling out all the negative stuff. do i think too much? how wonderful it sounds to be able to believe, undeterred by other influences. i think there are a lot of people out there who would hate me if they were given the chance. i've read The Mist and the monsters in it are so cool.

During the summer I believe Bella and I will be on our way to a local farmer's market. I was very happy to discover this little place is only a 25 minute ride from my house, and that is at Bella speed. On the right at Bearspaw Road, on the way to Cochrane. As an aside, I believe it is impossible to be unhappy whilst riding Bella, and if anyone is a bit blue come and visit and go for a ride. It will fix you right up! The market had lovely fruits and veg, lotsa local flavor, a cute display of baby clothes (while they are acrylic I will admit they had a lovely assortment of patterns):

Yup, cattle skulls people, longhorns as well. Unfortunately they don't really "go" with my decorating scheme at home (non-dead animal) so I didn't strap one of these babies onto Bella. Now that would be funny!

What did we come home with:

Walnut bread, Saskatoon berry jam, and a latte. Now I just need a latte holder for Bella! Anyone want to join me next Sunday?

I am trying to keep my head above water. I am trying to cope. I am trying to deal.

It seems to involve a lot of staring. Standing in the kitchen, staring at the wall, until I finally remember where I am --- but not what I was about. Was I going to eat? Is it time for a pill? Am I thirsty? I don't know, so I start to do the dishes, and end up staring at the kitchen cabinet with my hands motionless in the soapy water.

Stare at the wall. Stare at the sky. Stare at the television. Just now, staring at the computer screen, my fingertips on the keyboard waiting, waiting, waiting for a signal. I suppose I am losing my way in mazes of recursive thought, but honestly I don't know. Remembering? Not remembering? There are a lot of things I'm successfully not thinking about. Maybe that effort is what stops me cold, idling with my eyes fixed on whatever is before me.

I am so very tired. If only there were a snow bank to lie down in.

I am at sea, but afloat. Neither feels volitional. This is the only "should" I can find anywhere in my head: I should stay afloat. It's almost the only thing at all in my head, its own little bobbing cork in another vast ocean for which I have no name. Some kind of pain? Does the word matter?

The following is an actual question given on a Washington State University chemistry mid-term.

The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat)or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for
how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions
that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you
are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is
more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and
pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand
proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until
all Hell breaks loose.

2 . If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in
Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."
