Kalzone (Username: panconqueso) is participating in the betterplace prediction game to each of the 31 matches of the EURO 2008.

Everyone can participate and do something useful. If you are spot on: Well done, you know your football. If you get it wrong: Donate one Euro to the project "KICKFORMORE - the streetfootball league" - or to one of the many other projects on the platform for social projects - betterplace - and be spot on anyway.

The Internet based Foundation betterplace.org, founded in July 2007, aims to connect people in need of support and others who want to help - one to one - worldwide. After an extended stay in Africa, Till Behnke returned to Germany to work for car manufacturer DaimlerChrysler. In 2006, Till felt the need to combine his degree in Business Informatics, his professional expertise as a project manager and the ambivalent encounter with the African continent to a more meaningful end than a career in a transnational corporation. In Berlin he met his ideal partner in Line Hadsbjerg. With a degree in anthropology, she had worked both for Amnesty International in India and for the European Commissioner for Development in Brussels. After long discussions about how the Internet can be used to better the lives of people in need worldwide, they surrounded themselves with a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team, consisting of Philip Baier, Moritz Eckert, Georg Friedrich, Axel Kuzmik and Bodo Sieber, to start betterplace.org - a global platform that was to be a bridge between needs and new, innumerable opportunities.

On betterplace.org there are social projects from around the world or in the closest neighbourhood. Projects can directly be supported by offering donations in money, kind, know-how, or time – as an individual or a company. On betterplace experience can be made directly, in text and image, the concrete difference each contribution is making.

betterplace guarantees that the donation will be forwarded to the project of your choice without any administrative fees - 100%! This possible because betterplace is not funded by donations. Furthermore, the charities represented on betterplace are also committed to this principle. Each donation received through the betterplace platform is forwarded to the individual project, and is not being used to cover the administration costs of the organisation.

Returning to the EURO 2008: Whoever gets most of the predictions right will be the betterplace Prediction King 2008 and is the winner - but so of course is everybody else involved. For every false prediction, 1 Euro will be donated to the project KICKFORMORE.

On the first matchday, we were able to save the position 11. Our results to present:

Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.

But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.

Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 100 cities across the world. Find a location and join the conversation.

Pecha Kucha nights always start at 20.20h in changing location.

This week is very special when Pecha Kucha Berlin meets DMY International Design Festival at Glashaus Arena (Kreuzberg) at 21.20h.

The US movie “Napoleon D” narrates a story of outcasts at a provincial American highschool. The protagonist Napoleon Dynamite is a nerd. Normally the incarnation of “uncool” one day he manages to surprise his entire school: at an election rally for student representative Napoleon dances for the minority candidate to support him. This dance scene enchants with its bizarre sexyness. For whatever reason － this scene became one of the most often watched dance sequences on the internet. More than 8 million people watched it on YouTube alone.

post theater has invited 5 choreographers to research this pop-cultural phenomenon and interprete Napoleon’s dance. The rules are as easy as they are strict: every choreographer has exactly 10 minutes performance time, not more than two performers and very limited light and stage design options. The scenes will deal with the topics at hand: masculinity, sexuality and the power of pop. And of course: how are pop-choreographies transmitted via film, video and the internet? The choreographers that will join the project all have their specific signatures and different approaches to pop-culture. Every dance segment is a re-mix of the same source material － Napoleon’s dance.

Inspired by the movie-narrative and just like the YouTube conventions － the performances will be not just put on stage but put up for voting. The audience will vote over their favorite piece. In addition this is an ironic spin on TV formats that vote for stars and the Berlin art scene where arts are in competition for recognition.

It is a little remote from the centre of Beijing in the Chaoyang district and almost impossible to find the bar unless you are in the scene. It seems that Taxi drivers have never heard of this place before. It´s inside a retro drive-in cinema complex off Liangmaqiao Lu in the middle of nowhere with some run down Chinese restaurants and coffee bars around the cinema itself. Turning left away from the drive-in (I know it is hard but try to explain the taxi driver that you don´t want to go to the drive-in), you can see a run down building with blue letters '2Kolegas'.

2 Kolegas - no joke - it has a Spanish name although it is run by two Chinese guys. In Chinese Mandarin the place is called liang ge hao pengyou, meaning "two good friends", but it probably seemed cooler in Spanish.

This bar with a plastic furniture garden (and a proper loo inside!) is probably the best live music venue in town, covering rock, punk, blues, jazz and experimental music with the odd charm of the illegal bars in Berlin in the mid-90s. Rarely you can rely on opening times and programs, however, if open it is an absolutely amazing place to chill out, especially in summer.

So where do I start. I guess by telling you I have always had a thing about the water, the sun, and the sand. It probably started sometime when I was a little boy, going to the lake with my father. We had several boats, not big ones, but big enough to put a smile on my face when my dad would say “c’mon boy, lets load up the boat”. And off we would go to Portage Lake or Michigan Center Lake, or Grindstone City in Michigan’s thumb area or Drummond Island in the Upper Peninsula or who knows where.

And so, we would spend hours on the lakes, either fishing, or just enjoying the sun. As time went on, and I got older, girls took the place of fishing poles and we sold the boats. But the beach was still there and summer months would be filled with as much time on those Jackson County beaches as I could fit in.

And then came high school graduation and ultimately, it was off to Boot Camp! The Army was only supposed to be a 3 year thing. But it turned into a part time career that spanned 20 years. A few good things came out of the Active Duty period. I was able to live down in Augusta, Georgia and Fayetteville, North Carolina. Because of their locations, I was able to travel to the coast several times. The Ocean is something to see and I can remember many days of goofing off at Daytona and Myrtle Beach.

But my first real out of the country experience was during a 60 day field exercise down in Honduras. That is one of the great things about the military. You have the opportunity to spend extended periods in some very exotic locations and it doesn’t cost you a dime. Well, in my case it cost quite a bit of money because I volunteered to stay an extra month with a Detachment until the end of May. This was when the ship was due in to port and we would be in charge of loading our military vehicles on the ship for the return sail back to the United States. We stayed in Puerto Cortez inside a compound called the Zona Libre (Free Zone). Inside this fenced in compound were several warehouses and factories. Every morning the ladies would file through the gates, hundreds of them to work as seamstresses in these buildings without air conditioning. Several of the guys would flirt with them and eat lunch at the on site lunch stand.

More on that later!!!!!!!

Robert Lepage, one of the most versatile theater directors has braught a new masterpiece to Spain when he and his company Ex Machina performed last night in The Blue Dragon at the IV Festival de las Artes de Castilla y León in Salamanca.

Québécois director Robert Lepage’s characters are often travellers drawn to the revealing encounter with the other, the exotic, the unknown. Yet in all the stories Lepage has told through opera, film, or theatre, only one of his characters has ever gone away for good— Pierre Lamontagne, the central figure in The Dragons’ Trilogy, who departs as the play closes to study art in China.

Twenty years later, Lamontagne resurfaces in Shanghai’s Moganshan 50, a former industrial complex converted into an arts centre, now the heart of the contemporary Chinese art scene. Here he meets Claire Forêt, a Montreal ad executive, drawn like so many others to take advantage of the Chinese economic miracle. Claire, who had known Pierre in another life at art school, casts a decidedly western eye on his current existence. Through the shock of their rediscovery and confrontation, their common past opens an unexpected door to the future for both. Enter Xiao Ling, a Chinese artist exhibiting at Pierre’s gallery. As she faces wrenching choices, the young woman awakens hopes long buried in Claire.

In the effervescent paradox that is modern China, the collision of these three characters brings about fundamental changes for each.

Co-written by Robert Lepage, winner of the 2007 Europe Theatre Prize, and his collaborator Marie Michaud (who also co-authored The Dragons’ Trilogy), and performed by Lepage, Michaud, and dancer Tai Wei Foo, The Blue Dragon bears all the hallmarks of Lepage’s original, brilliant, and highly visual style. As always, Lepage relies on the one inexhaustible resource the theatre possesses—the audience’s intelligence.
